Todd Wilkinson is an American journalist and author proudly trained in the old-school tradition of asking tough questions and pressing for honest answers. He is the founder of Mountain Journal. Since he began as a violent crime reporter with the legendary City News Bureau of Chicago, Wilkinson’s work has appeared in a wide variety of national publications, ranging from National Geographic and Christian Science Monitor to The Washington Post and many others (on topics of environment, art, culture and business) in-between.
These essays don't really say anything new - or maybe they don't really say anything new to me. Also, perhaps the proofreader was in a hurry? The countless misspellings and formatting errors greatly distract from the content.
As a big fan of Todd Wilkinson and Mountain Journal, I found this book to be on par with the other writing Wilkinson has done in defense of the Greater Yellowstone. I loved the discussions about Yellowstone cutthroat trout and the importance on maintaining migratory paths for wildlife. The chapter on CWD, while important, was a little repetitive, in my opinion. This book would have greatly benefited from one last round of copy editing. There are lots of little mistakes that could have been tidied up. Overall, a good read for a generation needing to learn what’s at risk and take action for a positive and sustainable way forward.
Todd Wilkinson gives us a passionate, comprehensive, thoroughly researched call to action on behalf of Yellowstone Park, the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and the earth's ecosystems as we have known them. His warnings of environmental destruction and ecosystem collapse need to be read and heeded by leaders in government and industry as well as everyday citizens. There is no one who can escape the looming disaster, and everyone can play a part in averting the worst effects. I wish he had a better editor! The copy editing errors on nearly every page were quite distracting to this reader.
