I'm not shy to admit that I had a difficult time really getting into this story. I kept wondering where it was going. But, I'm very glad that I didn't give up on it. Elan is a very different type of character than we are used to seeing and that's a good thing. His naivety and innocence are what helped him to survive and are part of the reason that this book has an extremely slow build. But, he's a sweet and lovable character too. I'm looking forward to learning more about this world and it's characters.

It's the first book in a series, so it does leave one with questions needing to be answered. All in all, of you enjoy epic fantasy, this read is for you.
