Rate this book
Three children desperately try to escape from a house that's trying to kill them. A doctor waits for the weather to change, terrified that the melting snow will reveal his crime. An old man lives in fear, in a cottage haunted by a ghost that only appears where there's rain.

The Ghost in the Rain and Other Stories is a collection of ghost stories about spirits that refuse to accept their fate. Some of these ghosts are vengeful, some are horrified by their deaths, and some – or perhaps all – are connected to one particular house...

Ghostly!

A very good ghost story from the prolific Amy Cross.

Ellen, Kate and John grows up in a haunted house. Being the eldest and the most sensitive, poor Ellen is constantly harassed by a woman who follows her around the house.

Although John is the youngest, he appears to be unaware of the trauma his sister is going through, and says he has never heard or seen anything.

Kate does what she can to protect her sister from the wrath of their mother, whom they are unable to confide in. Kate begins to feel the house is out to get them and escapes from it and leaves her boyfriend behind.

Although, they are all unawares, the house is a haunted source of horror. Holding forth an evil entity that is reaching out from beyond the grave.

Very hard to put down.

Background verbage of each character helps the reader assess what the next move will be, which, at most turn is incorrect. A very intense read.

An interesting but slightly confusing set of stories..

In reality there were only two separate stories in this book. The Ghost in the Rain and Kate & Ellen's story. The majority of the book concerned Kate and Ellen and their troubled family, with the Ghost in the Rain story thrown into the mix for no apparent reason. The main theme, throughout the book, was that ghosts haunt people and not places. Still, it was a very well constructed supernatural thriller. Just stick with it.

This was not a series of short stories but a series of stories linked to two sisters. And then the Ghost in the Rain story was thrown in but didn’t seem related at all to the rest of the stories. The stories involving the sisters started out well but by the end of the book it felt like things went a little off the rails.

What even was this??

This was ridiculous. I finished the thing because I’d already invested too much time in it. Stories? Nope. An unedited, incoherent bunch of out of order chapters with a few random pieces of unrelated junk thrown in. Don’t waste your time.

Editing

What this, and all her books, could use is an editor. There are so many typos that at times you have to read a paragraph twice for it to make sense. I realize they are ebooks but surely someone would edit cheaply or for free.

This might have been my favorite Cross collection so far. Each story felt so fresh and sucked me right in. There was not a single tale I didn't enjoy.

Another really great book by Amy Cross. They story was interesting and keep you glued to the plot. If you like haunted houses, you'll like this book but you'll never guess the ending.

Book of eight stories that are interlinked but it's not really its the same story. It's well written but I did not really enjoy the story, it felt very similar to other stories so was waiting for a twist which did not really come. Good but just not my cup of tea.
