Fractured Ever Afters #2

The Craving in Slumber

Rate this book
There’s the story where the newly returned princess is cursed to sleep until given true love’s kiss, and then there’s the actual one. The one in which Aurora Corsetti, mafia princess, returns after being sent away as a child, to endure a new life of buried secrets, an arranged marriage, and a compassionless family.

Rosen Carrigan, head soldier of the Corsetti family, is tasked with protecting the bratty, mafia princess, who insists on taunting him at every turn. Forbidden gets dangerous when a devious plot nearly takes her away from him, and like that silly fairy tale, Rosen won’t let Aurora go. In the end, not all stories end with a kiss, but rather, in war.

M.L. Philpitt is officially a one click author for me now!! The first book in this series had me hooked but this story has made it official!! Rosen and Aurora's story is so freaking phenomenal! It's a slow burn that's going to have you wanting to throw your kindle, phone or whatever across the room with the angst between these two. A sleeping beauty retelling unlike no other.

🔥🔥

Aurora is the only daughter in the Corsetti family. She was sent away fifteen years ago for her safety, but now she is welcomed back…to an arranged engagement. Aurora is understandably pissed and makes her feelings well known. Her family doesn’t seem to understand, but Rosen seems to.

Rosen’s title is head solider and more recently personal bodyguard. He is one of the most trusted individuals outside of the immediate Corsetti family. “Unisciti a leale. Muori leale. Join loyal. Die loyal.” He tries to keep the boundaries firm, but Aurora gradually chips away with her taunting and bratty remarks. Will Aurora succeed in breaking down those boundaries once and for all, or will Rosen’s strict training and thoughts of loyalty help him prevail?

I absolutely love Aurora and Rosen, maybe even more than Nico and Della. Aurora has been through so much and I loved watching her find her own footing after so many decisions had already been made for her. I enjoyed everything about this book: the side characters, the plot, the drama, and all the tension. I cannot wait for the third book in the Fractured Ever After Series!

This book was so good! If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would!

The emotions, the push and pull, and can't forget the spicy scenes. 🥵🥵 There were moments when reading this that I really felt for the characters. Putting this book down was a challenge, I could have happily read through the night. Who needs sleep anyway?

I don't think I've ever read a book so quickly! This book is definitely a book for the shelf!

Aurora was sent away for her safety to live in a convent after the kidnapping of her older brother.
Now, 15 years later, she is to return home and take her place in her mafia family and her arranged engagement.

I just have to say again how M.L. Philpitt is an incredible writer and storyteller and is definitely an instant buy author for me.
I always get completely sucked into her stories and lose all concept of time.

As with The Hunt In Elusion, we get the vibes of the fairy tale they are inspired by with a modern and unique take to them.

I love the tension between Aurora and Rosen, especially as she is constantly trying to rule him up.

But Rosen is the only person who truly sees her, and it's this connection that I couldn't get enough of.

I love the progression of the ongoing storyline, which is so intriguing, and even though this book has just come out, I'm so excited to devour the next one in the series 🖤

This is an interconnected story, so I really recommend reading The Hunt in Elusion first.

Oh, this book! Oh, my poor little heart! This is one of the best, most beautiful and intense forbidden love story I’ve read so far. Totally different from The Hunt in Elusion (book 1 of the series, which kicked my b*tt with its intensity), The Craving in Slumber has a slower pace (it’s a delicious slow burn) but the tension between Rosen and Aurora’s and their whole journey will keep you turning the pages, I promise.

M.L. Philpitt knows how to write a slow burn and she has absolutely mastered how to reward her readers for such a torturous wait. It was so good I cheered out loud.

Characters development is chef’s kiss. Aurora is one feisty, bratty but strong and tenacious FMC, and I’ve connected with her more than with most FMC in other books. Rosen...oh poor Rosen! I didn’t like the guy in book one. I thought he was a total d*ck if I’m being honest. He still is, in a way 😏, but I’ve grown to like him a lot (ok a lot a lot 🫠).

I cannot wait to know what’ll happen next. I can’t go into details much about the plot in order to avoid spoilers, but whew! What a ride! I 👏🏼want 👏🏼more!!

What a great read! I won’t ever shut up about this series!

M.L. is absolutely killin this book series! I thought Nico and Della were amazing, but they barely hold a candle to Rosen and Aurora.

Rosen Carrigan is not only a high ranking soldier for Corsetti family, but also best friend to underboss, Nico, and capo, Rafael. Tasked with being the bodyguard to their younger sister, Aurora, as she finally returns home after being sent away for 15 years. This mafia princess is way more than he expected her to be and to say she’s caught his attention is an understatement. But she is forbidden to him, which just makes her all that more tempting. Oh, and did I mention he’s a dom?🫠 Boy does he have a mouth on him! Phew.

Aurora Corsetti… she is stubborn, feisty, and an absolute brat. What would you expect from someone who was abandoned by their family? After being away for 15 years she is now expected to come home and take on her role/duties as the mafia princess. But her family has another thing coming, as does her newly appointed bodyguard. She is going to push every button he has in hopes of breaking his wall down.

Ugh these two, I absolutely loveddd everything about them! And I’m not biased at all since my favorite fairytale is sleeping beauty 😉 But really, their personalities fit so well. The way Rosen was so good at reading Aurora knowing when she needed him. Aurora knowing when Rosen just needed that extra push. She was such a strong, badass FMC and it was everything I love. I’m seeing a pattern here that I’m not mad at!!!

THE CRAVING IN SLUMBER by M.L. PHILPITT is book Two in the Fractured Ever After Series. This is the story of Aurora and Rosen. Aurora has been away for several years after being sent to a convent to keep her protected. Now she has returned home and is finding adjusting is hard. The one person who seems to understand her and to make her feel connected is Rosen. This starts their story. Enjoyed.

Another great book.

Aurora has been away from her family for so long. They are all strangers to her. She’s really struggling with re-connecting to them, forgiving them, and with all the things that’s expected of her now that she’s returned. The only person she feels she go to Rosen.

I felt so sorry for Aurora her story pulled at the heartstrings. I was pleased she had Rosen to stand by her. Even if it he fights his feelings for her.

If you haven’t read THE HUNT IN ELUSION I recommend reading before starting this story.

If you are looking for a mafia, bodyguard and bratty FMC romance than this is for you. The spice in this book is too good and not too heavy.my favourite part has to be when he finally confessed after denying so much. This book had me hooked from the start. Definitely recommend and can't wait for Rafael's book.

I just knew Aurora was going to be a pip and she doesn’t disappoint. Rosen has his hands full from the moment he meets her and I was instantly hooked into the story.

Rosen Corrigan, head soldier of the Corsetti family, is the new guard for Aurora Corsetti, the youngest of the family. Having been sent away for fifteen years for her own safety, now is the time for her to return and participate in an arranged marriage. I like how Rosen could see both sides of Aurora’s predicament but was still loyal to the family. Likewise, I was very sympathetic about Aurora returning and her family expecting her to simply slide right back into the fold, that’s unbelievable. My feelings for Aurora were so deep, even though she didn’t handle things as well as she could have at times, I totally understood. I wanted to shout at her family too. 😄

I found the story a bit slow to start off but then the pace picked up, it’s definitely a slow-burn romance but then again a forbidden one too. As well as the return of Aurora and the upcoming wedding of Nico and Bella, there is still the problem of De Falco and his daughters unfound and causing major headaches.

One of my favorite parts though, is the visit by two characters from the previous series that connects with this one, but only marginally. They certainly made an impact in the last series and they do in this one too—well they do for me, I’ll let you decide. You don’t have to have read the previous series to enjoy this series.

One of the great things this author does is weave subtle, and at times not so subtle, humor interspersed through the story. It’s very cleverly crafted and one of the reasons for the extra half a star. I’m now looking forward to reading about Rafael, I know his story will be very entertaining.

When Nico Corsetti entrusts one of his most trusted soldiers to collect his estranged sister Aurora, Rosen Carrigan didn’t know just what an impact it would have on his life. Aurora had been hidden away in a convent school by her parents for her own safety. Now after sixteen years she’s been recalled home to play her part in the family but Aurora is justifiably angry at her treatment and isn’t hiding her contempt of anything or anyone related to the Corsettis and Rosen is directly in her line of fire.

The Craving In Slumber is a slowburn forbidden romance between a mafia soldier & his boss’s sister. Aurora has grown up sheltered from the world and takes great delight in flirting with Rosen and trying to get a rise out of him while Rosen is the only person to really look at Aurora and see when she was about to crack from the pressures imposed on her by her family who expected her to forgive and forget being sent away. The sexual tension between them rises until the Rosen can’t keep his hands off her any longer despite the conflict he feels due to allegiance to her family and starts a secret relationship with her even though he knows it can’t go anywhere. I loved the slow development of their relationship and with the ongoing plot line from the first book with DeFalco and his daughters lurking in the background waiting to make their move this book gripped me from the start. Now for Rafe’s book up next.

I loveeee a good forbidden romance. Here we have Aurora, a mafia princess, and Rosen who is the bodyguard sworn to protect her. Let me add also bestfriends with Aurora's older brother Nico who is the mafia underboss. If you have read the first book in this series, The Hunt in Elusion, you know who Rosen is and you get a taste of what is going on in this series regarding Aurora. I was super interested to see where the author was going to take this relationship and the dynamic of it, and I was so happy with it! Rosen and Aurora are so much fun, and they have a dom/brat relationship with her constantly challenging him and driving him crazy. Also, the little Sleeping Beauty slip ins throughout the book were amazing!

Aurora has a really tough time throughout this book. She has grown up and lived her life away from her whole family and their lifestyle, and is expected to come back and just jump back in like everything is dandy. She immediately finds comfort and a support system within Rosen, whether he wants her to or not lol. Rosen has such a hard exterior based on the lifestyle he has grown up with, being a bodyguard for the mafia family. Aurora breaking down those walls and their instant connection was really sweet and I loved it. There was so much development in this book that was done well; Aurora and Rosen's character development, their relationship development, and of course the plot. The author has done an outstanding job of giving us a romance but also progressing the overall plot of this series. I am really really looking forward continuing this series.

This is Book 2 in the series - although it is technically a standalone story- it very much meshes with everything we read in book 1! So I definitely recommend reading from the beginning!
This is a new author to me and this series of the retelling of fairy tales set in the mafia world is SO good!
Bada$$ heroines and alpha heroes!
This was a great story —- only complaint was that some aspects are a little far fetched…Aurora had been sent away at a young age for her safety to where she lived in a convent of sorts - but is extremely strong willed and seems to be up on modern phrases and whatnot. They do keep reminding us that it’s in her blood to be a Strong Corsetti woman …so it’s easy enough to shrug off and enjoy it for the story.
Happy Reading!

I received a copy for an honest review.

This is the second stand alone book in the interconnected Fractured Ever After series, and it was so good! I loved Rosen and Aurora! The slow burn was so tantalizing! Their chemistry was amazing! And I loved the fact that Rosen was there for her. She was so lost and he was the only one who saw her. There was less action in this book than there was in book one. This isn't a bad thing, as this book dealt with the more emotional side of being away from the mafia for so long. And it was good to catch glimpses of the other characters in this book. It just makes me want to already have book 3 in my hands!! Can't wait to read more in this world!!

I didn’t know how a book could top the first one but this one was everything! I am a sucker for a forbidden romance and I loved the bodyguard/princess trope too. It reminded me a lot of Twisted games, which I also love. The slow burn was chef’s kiss. I am now obsessed with this series and will be making it my entire personality

This is an interconnected story, reading The Hunt in Elusion is recommended. Plot points continue from Book 1

Rosen and Aurora are hot together. They have extreme amounts of s3xual tension. I was rooting for them from the beginning. Their story was very hard to put down, I was intrigued from the first page.

Aurora is an extreme brat and it drives Rosen crazy from their first meeting. He is dominant and fantasizes about punishing her. Their Romance is Forbidden, him being a lowly soldier. She is a Mafia Princess promised to another Underboss. Recently returned home after being sent away at 6 y/o.

I cannot wait for Rafael's book!!!!

“princesse, this right here—my heart—it’s fuckin’ yours now. what you do with it is completely in your control.”

the second installment in this series completely overshadowed the first's flaws in my eyes; it gave a different depth to the mafia elements and didn't focus too much in the attempt to reference every small detail, while still accomplishing the right balance of staying true to the fairytale it was inspired by. the way both stories were interconnected went above the usual cameo sprinkled throughout the book, which i appreciate, making the world more immersive and familiar. it feels as if the events triggered by the first book will inevitably not only cause but change the bigger picture, having the next story pick up right after where the previous one left off.

God I was so mad on the FMCs behalf. They literally sprang her whole life on her in less than 24 hours.

And they never even apologized properly, I can't tell you how much loath alpha men who give the tough guy act to traumatized women aka Nico.

The girl did not know how to operate a phone and these people were telling her how she needed to do her job as a Corsetti family member. What family? She never got any perks why should she shoulder the responsibility?

I had been looking forward to reading about the forgotten mafia princess after reading book one in the Fractured Ever Afters series. M.L. Philpitt does such a good job writing and keeping you glued to every page and not wanting the book to end. I love the romance; the action and the right amount of spice and Rosen gave some thigh clenching moments! This is like a Sleeping Beauty retelling, which I love reading "adult" fairy tales! I do feel like this book wasn't quite as dark as book 1, the relationship between the couple was different then the couple in book 1. In book one we were introduced to Rosen who works for the Corsetti family, and he is given the job of getting the Coresetti princess back home.

Aurora has been away from her family since she was 6 years old. For the past 15 years she has had no contact with anyone from her family. She was placed far away and somewhere safe and almost forgotten by her family until she needed to come home. She has been raised by nuns and their names are perfect! Aurora is an amazing young woman, not spoiled at all, strong, determined, stubborn, and has a big heart. She enjoys being around children and volunteer work. Rosen is sent to collect her, and he is dreading being her bodyguard. He is expecting a spoiled princess, and he does get a brat but one that excites him. He enjoys being around Aurora and picks up on her moods quickly. It is difficult when Aurora comes home, and she is rightfully upset with how she was treated. Rosen is by her side, and she craves his support and affection even though they shouldn't Rosen is happy to be able to make her smile. Rosen is able to see where Aurora is coming from with her feelings, he tries to fight his feelings for her. There were plenty of times Rosen drove me insane trying to push Aurora away even though I just wanted them together. Aurora works on her relationships with her family and with Rosen. This is a slow burn but reading how they interact with one another the sexual tension is very present. Eventually they can no longer fight their feelings for one another, and Aurora goes after what she wants, she wants to control a little of her own life. When they finally get it on, it is so worth the wait. What they have is special and hate they have to keep it a secret. Aurora is set to be engaged to another mafia family and will unite the two families. Something happens though to Aurora, and the book just gets even better. I enjoyed seeing how the book played out once things came out into the open. The relationship between the two with Aurora being a "brat" and Rosen punishing her for her attitude which she thoroughly enjoys. I was surprised at a few things that happened. I really enjoyed the similarities between Sleeping Beauty and this book. I can't wait to see if we will see this amazing couple again in future books.
Another reason I enjoyed this book were the other characters. We get to learn more about the Coresetti family and why they did some of the things they did. Rafael is such a good brother and so funny. I am quite curious what might happen with Della's sister we don't read much about her but the way she watches everything I think there could be more to her eventually. I liked reading about Rosen's sister and dad and how they interacted with him and the family. The way this book ended was perfect. In my opinion this book is just a little sweeter than reading about Nico and Della.

A few of my favorite quotes:
- "Princesse, this right here-my heart- it's f*ckin' yours now. What you do with it is completely in your control."
-"But you must understand this isn't a game. You're it for me. But this means your life will be whatever we make it, not your brother. I'm not an underboss; I'm a soldier."
-"My little brat."

“Why couldn’t my family be normal? Why am I bred from monsters that I want to love too?”

To keep her safe and out of their enemies eye, Aurora Corsetti was sent away and now fifteen years later the time has come for her to return. But, Aurora is not the sweet little princess and now she is coming home to the unknown…her family that she knows are no saints.

Aurora may be long awaited to come home to her family…but she soon finds out she is only a chest piece and in a deadly game of the mafia world deals are made in blood and war.

But we’re both dancing on this precarious line, either one of us with the ability to win.
The question is who will break first.

The one guarding Aurora is Rosen, a trusted soldier and friend of the Corsetti brothers. It seems this task is about to push him to the limits in not only dealing with her antics, keeping her safe and allowing her to experience life. But, most importantly keeping his hands off Aurora…and she isn’t about to make it easy on him.

Those well placed boundaries that are ingrained into Rosen are starting to wane and sometimes you need more than just a taste…to forget and live in the moment.

“I want nothing to do with you because I want everything to do with you.”

I love Aurora’s character!!! She was no quiet, meek, easily adaptable character and made her intentions very clear. Underneath the bravo attitude she was lost, unsure of things around that were out of her control and learning more about her family was making her feel conflicted. This was all written very well, you saw the family react to Aurora and how the newcomers were able to help her.

You could feel the connection Aurora has with Rosen, they have a slow burn relationship and form a friendship in the situation they are in. They push and pull each other building their connection that they do keep hidden from the family. You can clearly see the duty that Rosen has towards the family but, you see this slipping the further you read and find out more about his personality.

I loved how this all came together, bringing the current story, the family dynamic changing and how this story is still growing. This is full of emotion, wholesome and unbelievably sexy!

This is so wrong. Yet so right. I won’t get enough. This can never end. This forbidden moment in time needs to pause, so we can lose ourselves forever.

Craving In Slumber - Fractured Ever Afters book #2 - Review

Couple: Aurora Corsetti & Rosen Carrigan

Author: M.L. Philipit

Tropes: mafia romance, forbidden romance, love triangle, failed marriage arrangement, hidden princess, bodyguard romance, dark romance

Review: Welcome back to the Corsetti household! I loved, loved, loved this book! I am always there for a bodyguard romance. Aurora and Rosen are the forbidden of forbidden fruit and the build-up for them was phenomenal.

Aurora is the forgotten Corsetti Princess. She was sent away as a kid after her brother Hawke was kidnapped. However, instead of her family brining her back after the threat was taken care of, they kept her away. We begin this book with Aurora being brought back into the fold after her brother Nico takes over for the family. We see him trying to bring his siblings together. To say Aurora is not what was expected is an understatement. She is loud, headstrong and determined to break the mold of women in the mafia. I loved reading how stubborn she was in her beliefs. To me the best parts of this mafia world is all the strong women and the way they are allowed to go out and volunteer for what they want, it is a nice twist from some mafia books.

Rosen is assigned to her protection detail and succumbs to her charms quickly. He attempts to distance himself multiple times and fails each time. When he allows Aurora to meet his sister and nephew it is downhill from there for him. I enjoyed his grumpy and broody character. I thought he was written for the role of a lost man looking for that tiny bit of light that is Aurora.

The arc in this book is continued from the last which is the hunt for Della’s father, Stefano de Falco. While Aurora’s not told about it, she learns through putting pieces together when she meets Della. The other arc is her arranged marriage that she wants no part in. I think this conflict made the steam so much better! Rosen felt guilt and Aurora just pushes her way into his heart. Personally, I didn’t mind Erico and hope we get to read his story at some point, I think he was just going along with his parents’ wishes and was happy that he did not claim rights when the arrangement dissolved.

This couple will stay with you for days after reading! I recommend this for mafia romance lovers!

Rating: 8/10, great forbidden romance!

🌟🌟🌟🌟/4 and 🌶🌶/5

Aurora has been completely away from her family for over half her life. She was sent away for her protection and after 15 years she is finally being brought home. So what happens when the locked away mafia princess comes home and is nothing like the docile well adjusted princess they all expected her to be?

If you are looking for a strong willed FMC, mafia, bratty, Dom/Sub, forbidden love romance - this might just be the read for you. Also fair warning - this is an angsty SLOW BURN. However, I think our boy Rosen is a pleasure Dom

Rosen Corrigan one of the top soldiers and close friends to the Under Boss and Capo of the Corsetti Family is given a new assignment. Retrieve and protect long hidden away mafia princess Aurora Corsetti. Rosen is less than impressed with his new assignment, as he expects to be a glorified baby sitter during lunches and shopping trips of a spoiled princess. What he gets is anything but that. I loved how Rosen absolutely empathized with Aurora and her feelings. He easily picked up on when she was struggling and knew how to quickly help her.

Aurora Corsetti is FIESTY but she also has her own struggles. Imagine growing up in a quiet, secluded convent with nuns and children as your constant companions only to be thrust into the life of a mafia princess. While I didn’t agree with how she handled everything all the time, I am not sure I would handle it any better. I did love how she continued to find her place and stand up for herself.

The Craving in Slumber- ML Philpitt

Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice 🌶️🌶️.5

I love a good Disney retelling. This is book 2 in the Fractured Ever After series. While it can be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading book 1 first so you get the full mafia plot that continues throughout the series. I loved Rosen and Aurora. Knowing she was raised in a convent, I thought Aurora was this meek little girl, but she is such a firecracker. She doesn’t take anyone’s shit, especially her family’s who abandoned her to the nuns. And Rosen…Rosen is hot. As Aurora’s bodyguard, she knows exactly how to push his buttons and wrap him around her little finger. He’s a Dom and he’s got a dirty mouth on him. But he’s the only one who *sees* Aurora. They are forbidden to be together, with her as the long lost mafia princess, he her trusted bodyguard, so this is a slow burn and full of tension and angst. Once his control snaps though, it’s game over. The only problem they have is she’s been promised to marry the underboss from another mafia family. She has a role to play in this mafia world, which was arranged by her brother and father. Will they be able to get her out of the marriage or will she be stuck to a life prearranged for her with no say so?

The Corsetti family has me in their grasp, and they’re not letting go. I swear, every time I pick up a book by ML Philpitt, I’m just stuck in it. I found myself taking extra time reading Rosen and Aurora’s story, because I just couldn’t come down to the fact that it would be over. Their push and pull, constant fight against feelings and fight to come to terms with the future is everything. Rosen losing his control was something I found I was craving, and it was sweet relief when he would. The declaration of love had me cheering like I just won the lottery, it was something I’d been waiting for but didn’t know I needed as much as I did. They really had me so tightly in their grasp, I don’t see myself forgetting them for quite some time.
