Her Rival Dragon Mate is a fated mates paranormal romance featuring an alpha dragon shifter and her feisty mate. It includes a standalone f/f rivals to lovers romance and a dash of steamy goodness. It is part of the Crescent Lake Shifters series.

Dragon shifter and lawyer Kendra was hemmed in at the family firm. Frustrated, seeking independence she left to test out different jobs including bartending before returning to her true career but with a rival law firm. Dragonkin Alisha is a junior lawyer at Silver Law where Kendra ends up. It turns out that the two had hooked up for one night some time ago which makes their first work meeting somewhat awkward plus they are partnered up to work on a big case together. Over time the strained, suspicion laden working relationship changes to a harmonious one and much more. Then the waters of Crescent Lake and the Crescent Moon ritual work their mating magic. A quick, easy read with the inevitable HEA.
I rec'd a copy through Booksprout. This review is unbiased and voluntary.
A passionate hook up and then came the shocker, they're rivals in the same lawfirm. A quick easy read with fated mates who neither had any interest in a relationship, with a HEA.
I like big books. I like dramatic books. I like books that make me cry and panic and scream. I like books that make me feel. But reading books like that is also draining and at the moment life is already draining enough. I'm therefore very thankful that BookSprout notifies me when Arizona Tape (and Laura Greenwood) have a review copy available so I can just lean back and enjoy for a while.
I have absolutely nothing with lawyers and law firms, but I absolutely loved this story. Firstly because I like how the rivalry on the work floor never escalates. Yes, these women are ambitious and they know what they want in life and from life, but they do recognize when they've gone too far and then do try to fix things.
I also love how the feelings between the heroines were developing slowly. Quite often in books with fated mates the love is quite instant, but in this case it seems a little more complicated to find your mate and discover that someone actually is your mate. And that means that characters have to communicate, get to know each other and build a connection.
I have to admit that the mythology seems a little unclear to me. I've read the prequel novella and it's still not entirely clear for me how everything works. I hope that in future books we will get a little more information on the ritual and the mating marks, how and when they appear. The author does know how to write romance, so I don't care if it takes a few books to do so!
Pure, sweet escapism. Arizona Tape’s Her Rival Dragon Mate is the kind of book you can just sink into. And I loved it so much I immediately purchased the second book in the series, too.
Alisha is determined to climb the career ladder at work, but her plans risk being derailed by the arrival of her one-night-stand, dragon shifter Kendra. The two women are put on a case together, and though Alisha is determined to keep Kendra at a distance, her plans don’t quite work out.
This is a fun, short read, involving rivals-to-lovers and fated mates, as well as a wonderfully crafted shifter world built around the two characters. It very much has first-book-in-series vibes, with other characters introduced and some fun stuff involving a ritual to find a fated mate. I enjoyed seeing the relationship progress between Alisha and Kendra, and absolutely could have read a longer book featuring these two.
There isn’t much actual ‘shifting’ here, but instead the women being a dragon shifter and dragonkin (part shifter) enables the fated mates plot, and we see how fated mates plays out among these shifters, including the markings they get once they find their mates.
Overall, Her Rival Dragon Mate is a really fun book with a cute couple, and what more could you ask for?
I LIKED this book but I didn’t love it. I didn’t really feel for the characters or have a connection to them. The relationship was not insta fall in love with each other, so that was good but it still felt quite quick and a bit rushed for me. I felt more could’ve happened outside the two of them. Like the project they were working on or something like that. Something was missing, I think it was that feeling you get when you I care for the characters, when you care if they’re hurting or happy. I just struggled to get that level of emotional involvement.
Having said that, it’s a solid book with good writing that doesn’t have spelling errors and would appeal to a lot of people, especially if they like fated mates, and I will declare honestly that fated mates, aren’t really my thing although I have read some I’ve quite liked. For me it was good but not great (4 stars) or excellent (5 star) novel.
I am so confused about the timeline in this book. Because it talks about an established couple, and I read out of order so I knew who they were, but it’s book six in the series (though Amazon says eight), and this was book one… I don’t think any of the books in this series really properly explain the moon ritual, though the Crescent Lake Bear Mate beginning books do a really good job of it. (The prequel her unforgotten bear mate was all over it). These two were a bit of an odd fit for me. For a couple that had hooked up previously, they should have had some sort of chemistry or spark, or at the very least acknowledge they’ve seen each other naked previously. But Alisha doesn’t even know what Kendra’s mating mark looks like. They barely had a friendship, so the chemistry for me just wasn’t there.
Alisha and Kendra don't have the best first meeting. Or it's more like second meeting as they have shared a one night stand, but that's not here or there because Kendra is the new lawyer in the firm and she's already been assigned to a case Alisha is working on. This does not set them up for a good working relationship, but things can change for the better, right? Right.
I really liked this. The rivals to lovers after ONS is done well and I liked how these two moved from rivals to friends and then to lovers, both women opening up to one another. The fates mates angle works really well too and I found myself rooting for that lake scene that we got. Even with a shorter read, I feel like we got to know the characters and their motivations well.
Quick read but the characters being lawyers, dragon kin or dragon shifters felt like it didn’t matter. The magical part of the story was barely present and when it was it was only for being fate bonded.
Lots of time skips, none of the cases that the characters are working on as lawyers are followed up on once the characters welcome open themselves up to being in a relationship with one another. It just felt like they happened to be lawyers and that part of their life wasn’t really that important anymore once they fell in love.

The story does some interesting things with fated mates. I actually like the budding relationship here the two characters. I was a little confused though. Their was a lot of mention about other characters and it felt like the second book not the first. I also felt the story could do with more world building and side plot but still it was relatively enjoyable and a fast read.
I started Her Rival Dragon Mate in June 2024 and finally finished it in February 2025, if that doesn’t say enough, I don’t know what does. I never fully got into the story, and it sat at 83% for months before I pushed through to the end. While it had potential, it just wasn’t for me. It wasn't interesting enough to keep me invested. Since this is only the first book in a seven-part series, I know I won’t be continuing.
Okay for a quick and casual read. Nothing was ever drawn out.
The characters and plot didn't leave an impression on me. Their being a dragon or dragonkin is inconsequential aside from the fated mate thing. They could have been a wolf-shifter or anything and it wouldn't have made a difference.
That is the greatest bummer for me. I wouldn't expect too much here but I expected some dragon stuff at least.
Her Beloved Dragon Mate is Listed as sixth in the series and is the story of Ruby and Hannah’s mating. This story, is the first in the series, and yet Ruby and Hannah are already mated. The other gives some idea of the rituasl, where is this does not. Neither book did I find to be interesting. In this book, we know that Kendra is it dragon and Alisha is dragon-kin, and yet, at no point, did Kendrick change into dragon form in front of her mate.
This was a decent, quick read, but it kind of felt like I was dropped into the middle of a series. I had to check a couple times to make sure I was indeed reading the first book. I overall liked the characters but didn't really feel attached to any of them and I didn't really feel invested in the romance.
Her Rival Dragon Mate: A dated Mates Paranormal Romance
A simply assume fantastic great story. The story with the girls was off the charts with chemistry that made you feel so warm and wishing life could be that easy and exciting. A must read for all who Want to be reminded that love is always waiting to give us a gentle push.
This is a bit of a different take on the dragon mating ritual that I have read before. I enjoyed the difference. Love it when authors take a concept in an unexpected direction.
I love these stories that Arizona Tape writes, they are just about right to read in between books that are more complex and heavy. I like how the mates find each other and the obstacles they have to circumvent to get together.
Cozy and like a Hallmark movie but not in a bad way. Not the first I have read from the series so I knew what to expect and enjoyed the quick and easy read. Ends at Christmas so it is good for the season too.
Was slightly disappointed in this one. Story was nice but there was no shift. On the bear shifter there is at least one and dragons like to show off. Hopefully the next one has one time. But if not I will go back to bear shifters.
Finding the right person is never easy, but when Fate steps in, things can get awkward. The story is an excellent example of how assumptions make seeing the truth more difficult.
