Once one of the most deadly assassins in Lindrad, Janis is now plagued by the bureaucratic limitations of Evenir and the odd Light powers they wield. Newly awakened to his own powers, Marric wants only to prove his worth in the world he’s now part of. Together, the assassin and novice are thrown into the front lines of a growing conflict against Watchlight. As they both manifest and expand their abilities, each must also navigate missions to recruit new Lightbearers before the enemy reaches them first. Prost, an ex-military man turned Watchlight operative, looks forward to meeting Janis in battle again, despite his Lightbearing immunity being called into question. While he plots his next move, Prost dreams of ending his days playing pawn to Riln, a leader blinded by his obsession with power. What seemed a mortal conflict has now turned into something far more foreboding. Further complicating matters, new figures emerge who haunt and wreak havoc. Yet hope still remains in the form of an uncovered history. Ultimately, Janis, Marric, and even Prost must learn the value of balance—in their own lives, as well as for the fate of the world at large. Should they fail, darkness will irrevocably be unleashed.
After her Awakening, Janis has been weary of her new powers, and with good reason. They seem to be on the fritz; unpredictable. That makes her too much of a liability to leave Evenir until she can get them in line and figure out which power she specifically Awakened to.
Then there’s Prost. He’s flustered and determined to kill Janis because somehow, when she Awakened, he was affected just like everyone else. But that doesn’t make sense, because Prost is immune to Lightbearing… right? Either way, he need to kill Janis to prove it was just a fluke.
Greater things are in store for both of them. If they can’t figure things out, the balance of the world may be at stake…
This book was AMAZING. It took my way to long because my life got complicated, but I loved it. Janis, my favorite character from the first book, returns in all her glory and only gets better as her vulnerabilities are exposed and she ensures some major character development in this book.
I also loved seeing things from others’ points of view and even some glimpses of the past! This book was phenomenal, and I desperately hope the third is in the works!
I read this book back in February and just saw I did not leave a review. I apologize to the author! Transformed is an awesome 2nd installment to the Light bearer series! I loved seeing Maris grow into his powers, his new community and his confidence. Janis!! What a surprise she is and such a powerhouse, but we knew that about her in book one! Like the the first book this was an awesome adventure filled with magic, surprise and the power you have when you believe in yourself! Can't wait for book 3!!
A great second installment to a series that takes common fantasy tropes and turns them on their head. Good versus evil is here, but we get to see that no one is all one or the other in this book. We all must rise to the challenges we've been given. Most of all, we are who we choose to be.
I love this second installment in the Lightbearer Chronicles. I enjoyed diving further into the characters and seeing their place in the story unfold as they come into their own. The ending once again caught me off guard and I'm so excited for the next one!
Like book one this is a well spinned world. Marric and Janis have come into their power and have to continue on in this war of light bearers. Watchlight and Protis has come very dedicated to putting a end to them. Can't wait for book 3.
This second installment of the Lightbearer Chronicles did not disappoint. I love how Dan Kenner weaves this story together. It answered some questions and raised more. Highly recommend this book!
Anytime forces of light and dark clash colateral damage abounds. Yet even during a very clear fight outside forces have their own agenda. With attacks coming from multiple fronts achievements on either side can be thwarted.
Although Dan's series has multiple POV I felt book two had a special focus on our sassy assassin, Janis. The author built upon the information we had already learned about character's background and revealed more of their secrets. Yet I'm sure there's more to be revealed in the final installment, which I believe is to be released soon.
We learn for example what happened between Prost and Avryn... but now I want to know more about a character called the Seer and just how he fits into the whole situation.
Once again it is fast paced with quite a few action scenes for our action lovers.
It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, but number 3 is just around the corner.
Just as the first book this one is packed with likeable characters, action and a captivating story. This time there were less twists and turns along the way but the end made up for that with a Big Bang. I can’t wait for the third book!
