Fans of the Hallmark Channel and Gilmore Girls will adore this delightful rom‑com about a city girl who goes in search of small-town happiness, only to discover life—and love—are nothing like the TV movies.Emerging journalist Adina Gellar is done with dating in New York City. If she’s learned anything from made-for-TV romance movies, it’s that she’ll find love in a small town—the kind with harvest festivals, delightful but quirky characters, and scores of delectable single dudes. So when a big-city real estate magnate targets tiny Pleasant Hollow for development, Adi knows she’s found the perfect story—one that will earn her a position at a coveted online magazine, so she can finally start adulting for real . . . and maybe even find her dream man in the process. Only Pleasant Hollow isn’t exactly “pleasant.” There’s no charming bakery, no quaint seasonal festivals, and the residents are more ambivalent than welcoming. The only upside is Finn Adams, who’s more mouthwatering than the homemade cherry pie Adi can’t seem to find—even if he does work for the company she’d hoped to bring down. Suddenly Adi has to wonder if maybe TV got it all wrong after all. But will following her heart mean losing her chance to break into the big time?
A born and bred New Yorker and lifelong daydreamer, Meredith Schorr fueled her passion for writing everything from restaurant reviews, original birthday cards, and even work-related emails into a career penning romantic comedies. When she’s not writing books filled with grand gestures and hard-earned happily-ever-afters or working as a trademark paralegal, she’s most often reading, running, or watching TV…for research, of course.
If imagining what I’ve read of this book so far as a dating profile, it would look something like “Aspiring single NYC woman looking for a small town Hallmark-movie inspired romance. I live in a fantasy world where this type of relationship exists. I’m also immature and frequently love to speak in crass ways.”
This book and I are breaking up. It was a short-lived relationship. Maybe it wanted to take things further than I did, but after getting to know about 40% of it, I can clearly see we’re not meant to be. I wanted sweet and happy, with maybe a little bit of “Ooo la la” *wink, wink* later. This book initially seemed like it might be that, but quickly after meeting one another it went all Penthouse magazine on me, with such enticing phrases like ‘boning’, ‘gets a lot of tail’, ‘getting drunk and laid’, ‘f*ck buddy’, ‘hot’ and ‘pound’. Be still my heart! How could I resist such romantic eloquence?
Sorry, As Seen on TV. I know I agreed to this date, but you and I just aren’t compatible. I’ve seen great feedback from many of your other dates and I’m sure plenty more will fall for your charms and swipe right. I wish you all the best!

Thanks to Forever/Grand Central Publishing, NetGalley and author Meredith Schorr for the opportunity to review this ARC. It will publish June 7, 2022
A small town based on Anti- Hallmark universe and sweet banters with entertaining Gilmore Girls references, a slow burn lighthearted romance that can cure any cruel hearts and brooding souls! Yes, this book won my heart with this simple formula: less cheesy and without cliches, more realistic approach to the small town dynamics and promising conclusion which gives up full of hopes!
“As seen on TV” is definitely one sit read with its riveting and interesting development, colorful and cute characters steal your hearts and entertaining story building to keep you hooked up!
I liked the author’s motive to give us more credible version of small town lives and I certainly giggled each time I recognized a Gilmore Girls reference.
Adi and Finn were adorable love interests to connect with.
I had a huge bucket of popcorn and very delicious crisp white wine during my reading time and finished the satisfying smile with smiling ears to ears. Another great feel-good romance I truly needed!
Special thanks to NetGalley and Forever/ Grand Central Publishing for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.
❤️ OMGGG thank you @readforeverpub for this adorable book!! I was sold at - Hallmark and Gilmore Girls vibe.. sign this girl up!! 🙋♀️
So Adi lives in NYC…a struggling writer she has found her story… a town outside of NYC that she is determined is a “Hallmark town.” Cute little diners… friendly people… lots of cute available guys… but no…🥺😭She is going to get smacked with reality that.. well that is not reality.😂
Okay so… as soon as I started reading this.. I got excited and told both my husband and mom… they laughed and laughed and laughed. 😂😫 They said OMG you are Adi!! 😂 I am.🤷♀️ I have googled - what town is used in a Hallmark movie ?🍿 I have begged both to move.🤷♀️ As they both try to explain… umm no..
So Adi girl… I get ya!! 🙌😘 I loved her story of meeting her small town hottie Finn… or is he??? 😏…Her meet cute in the lobby and everything else that she gets herself into. I know Adi was hoping her trip to Pleasant Hollow was in the Fall as that is the best.. all the pumpkin 🎃 festivals..which definitely were NOT happening in Pleasant Hollow.😂
Well as it is almost time for Christmas in July.. 🎄 .. I know myself and Adi will be two happy campers. 🍿📺🎄
Okay so bottom line… I loved this book!! Even if you don't love Hallmark ❤️… it’s an adorable rom com that will entertain your socks 🧦 off! If you do love Hallmark..well then you are just going to love it even more!! #teamadiandfinn ❤️
❤️❤️ Do you love a small town story?? Would you like to live in one?
I think I would like the idea but I would miss my shopping 🛍 options! 😂🤷♀️
4⭐ Genre ~ women's fiction Setting ~ New York Publication date ~ June 7, 2022 Page Count ~ 353 (50 chapters) Audio length ~ 9 hours 42 minutes Narrator ~ Emily Lawrence POV ~ single 1st Featuring ~ debut, small town, some steamage
Adina From the big city of Manhattan to the small town of Pleasant Hollow ~ Adina is a freelance journalist trying to prove herself to get a full time job at a magazine. Her story is about a developer that is trying to bring chaos to this small town and create a high rise with all the bells and whistles. She really needs her story to make a splash in order to help her mother out financially, and herself since she works 3 jobs. She wasn't expecting to meet a hottie, Finn.
Finn works for the developer, so Adina has an interest in speaking with him. Soon enough they have a more romantic interest in each other until she finds out something that could chance their dynamic.
I get excited when books take place near where I grew up and there are references to real towns that I know and have visited. It has been a while since I have been there though, so I can't comment on if the scenery is depicted correctly.
I am not a Hallmark movie watcher, so I can't attest to what others say about similarities, but I found this to be well written and I was really rooting for these two for the long haul at the beginning. I did prefer Finn pre~breakup, if you even want to call it that since they really weren't together together. He started to bug me a bit, but then he was okay again. The ending was cute.
I was able to both read and listen to this one. Narration notes: Emily did a lovely job narrating. Her voice is very animated and she sounded so excited the whole book. I wasn't in love with her man voice though.
This is my first time with this author and I'd be happy to read more from her.
*Thanks to Forever (Grand Central Publishing), Meredith Schorr and NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*
As Seen on TV by Meredith Schorr Contemporary romance. New adult. Adina travels to the far suburbs of New York to Pleasant Hollows to write an article of a new condo development. Her basis of small towns comes from romance movies. She expects to expose the developer, rally the towns people, and maybe fall in love. What she gets is her dream bubble burst and now she needs a new spin on the news column that is supposed to be her big break.
Amusing in her naivety, poor Adina may be New York City street smart but has a lot to learn, especially about small towns. And relationships. And learn she does but it’s a painful as growth can be. Both for the characters and me as the reader. All’s well though. I don’t want to spoil it but by the end Adina is truly adulting.
This was most definitely not for me. The main character was terribly immature and annoying. “Annoying AF” as she would say herself. Do people really use that in real life? I didn’t find anything charming about this book at all. Adina went on to write a terrible story that still got published, and her life ends up kind of like a bad Hallmark film. But not really. She goes from living rent free with her mom as an adult to living rent free with a man. Still no real responsibility or consequences for her actions. I’m surprised the Pleasant Hollow folks didn’t run her off with pitchforks.
The references to Gilmore Girls were just too twee for me. Even the main characters last name being the same as Paris. It just read like an infantile adult gets everything she didn’t know she wanted, and more story. There were some cringey (to me) sex scenes that just didn’t work.
I’m sure this will be a great read for someone, but that someone is not me. I kind of felt bad that the Brothers beer got trashed by Adina who happily drinks Blue Moon. Yuck. That reminds me, this book also included a lot of weird product and brand placement. I fully expected her to mention the can of Folgers coffee that shows up in Hallmark films.
As Seen on TV by Meredith Schorr was just the lighthearted and funny book I needed right now. Although Finn wasn't my favorite leading man I have ever had, and this isn't going to be the most believable book you will ever read, I think if you are in the right mood and love a good Hallmark movie it will be a winner. Adina was adorable in that she believes Hallmark movies are real life, so when she travels from NYC to small-town Pleasant Hollow, she is shook to learn that not every small town is straight out of a movie. Her skills as a journalist felt pretty basic and it took the whole book for her to realize it might be better if she talked to people without an agenda and just let something happen organically. This didn't take away from the story for me, but I am sure it will bug someone out there.
There was a great dose of humor throughout, and I really liked that the overall mood of this book stayed light. There are definitely some serious moments mixed in, but for the most part, As Seen on TV is just a great cheesy and predictable read. I know some readers were really annoyed by the MC Adina, but for some reason, I loved her and all of her flaws. I also really loved the audiobook which is narrated by Emily Lawrence. There isn't necessarily anything super special about it, but Lawrence was a solid narrator, and she was completely believable as the voice of Adina. I loved the feelings I caught from As Seen on TV and you better believe I will be buying a finished copy to keep and revisit later. I really hope Schorr will have many more future books like this one, and I look forward to whatever she writes next.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
As Seen on TV shows that the best romances are messy, real, and don't always follow Hallmark movie storylines. Adi and Finn learn to let go of expectations, grow up, and kindle their romance where they least expect to find it.
I loved this one. It's an easy quick read and a wonderful debut by this author.
Adina finds herself in Pleasant Hollow after pitching a story that could potentially make her journalism career. Finding more that she bargained for in this little town we are taken on a journey of hope, tears and love.
This story brings us quality writing at a good pace with loads of fun topics. A plot to keep you rooting for love and characters filled with emotional baggage but you still learn to love them. A great romcom with loads of laughter and a satisfying ending.
This book brings so much to the table and once you start you're slightly addicted. Loved it!
Thank you Netgalley and Hachette Audio for this ARC.
As Seen on TV has its moments but overall is quite ridiculous. Adina's harebrained scheme for the article and her over-the-top, childlike idealism are beyond my suspension of disbelief and maybe more fitting in a YA novel .
Adina (Adi) Geller is a struggling journalist trying to land a full time position writing lifestyle stories for Tea, an online magazine. But for the time being, Adi is strapped with juggling three jobs. One as spin instructor, the other a barista at a nearby coffee house, and lastly a freelance writer which just didn’t cut the mustard.
Adi was fortunate to live rent free with her mother. But with an imminent rent increase looming in the horizon, Adi desperately needed something more substantial. So, a position at Tea would be her ticket to independence. All Adi had to do was come up with the perfect pitch to the editor of Tea. Little did Adi know that the perfect pitch would lead to an extended stay in a small town and a bit of an unexpected romance.
As Seen on TV is a semi steamy romance that will have you turning the pages for more and not wanting the story to end. But the story does end and in an “aww shucks” kind of way.
The characters are lovable and I found them all to be somewhat like the characters from the Hallmark Movie Channel. They all seemed so real.
The plot is a friends to lovers trope. And as friend relationships go, there are the ups and downs of life. But added to the friend relationship, there’s the added complexity of familial ties. Family drama that tarnishes the best of relationships. But with strength, patience, and perseverance, that tarnish can be polished away.
As Seen on TV is a wonderful romance novel that will surely please those die hard romance fans. The author, Meredith Schorr is an excellent storyteller and I’ll be adding her to my favorite authors list. You should too. Five outstanding stars.
I received a digital ARC from Forever (GCP.) The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.
I love all of Meredith Schorr's books and this was no exception. While her previous novels have been light and happy-go-lucky overall, this one had more of an edge to it. I felt like I was seeing a new side of Meredith's mind. Adi and her mom were in a precarious financial situation. Finn had another kind of difficult situation to deal with that also affected Adi.
When Adi gets the go-ahead to write about a new building complex going up in a small town, she is more than thrilled for the chance to write the story that will launch her career. However, she ends up in a town where no one cares about the stuff she sees in Hallmark movies and things just go downhill from there....except for her connection with Finn, of course.
I enjoyed so much about this novel. It had a Kerry Winfrey and Nora Ephron feel. Anyone who loves Hallmark movies and small town romance novels will get a kick out of this story. The characters are interesting and well developed. The dialogue is genuine with great banter. There are a lot of humorous moments and pop culture references too. Meredith also incorporates some elements of Judaism into the story, which I definitely enjoyed. (Even though I'm not ready for Passover yet, let alone Rosh Hashanah!) I love that the story took place in the autumn and I could even feel the crisp weather thanks to some great descriptions.
Since Adi is waiting for something exciting to happen in order to write her news story, I sometimes wondered when something dramatic would happen in the story, as well. On that end, Meredith did not disappoint and the resolution is the best! I don't normally laugh and cry at the same time, but I did with this one.
I highly recommend picking up this adorable and charming novel when it releases in June, but be sure to read Meredith's earlier books in the meantime.
I love that this book can be considered anti-Hallmark. Hallmark movies are sweet, gushy, picturesque and make you think of a nice cup of hot chocolate in front of a fire. Well, don't expect this when Adina Gellar lands in Pleasant Hollow. Yes, it is a small town. Well, it stops there. No festivals, everyone doesn't know one another and each other's business...nothing you would expect if you are thinking you are walking onto a Hallmark movie set.
As a up-and-coming journalist Adi has been burned when it comes to the dating seen. Perhaps it is because being from New York the dating pool was just so large. Headed to Pleasant Hollow should change things for Adi. Meanwhile, that journalism career? Well, it certainly hasn't hit its stride as of yet. So, Adi has the brilliant idea to present Pleasant Hollow as idyllic as possible, even if she has to make a few things up.
Meeting Finn gives Adi pause. Has she found the perfect man already? Was simply moving to the outskirts of New York all she needed to do to reach out for her chance at love? With a story idea that will finally launch her journalism career, accompanied by the gorgeous Finn - well, Adi is on her way.
Having watched just about every Hallmark movie ever produced has Adi writing her own story. Can she get a homemade pie? Stop in an ice cream shop? Well, considering the fact that Finn is a developer and that he has huge plans for the very small town, well, that rather bursts Adi's bubble. Will the town's members side with Adi in her dreams of something quaint, or will they side with Finn and see nothing but dollar signs when considering the developments that are being planned?
Conflicts abound in this adorable story by Meredith Schorr. Proving that it is okay to dream, to plan, to change minds, all things the loveable Adi does. Not only does Adi work hard at creating her dream small town, she has the chance at love when it comes to Finn. I loved that the two were complete opposites, especially when it came to their ideals. With other supporting characters, including the Adi's lovely mother, this book was truly a delightful read. The blurb compares this book to the Gilmore Girls and that comparison could not be more appropriate when you see Adi's wonderful relationship with her mother.
The fact that I had this book as an audiobook ARC gave me the feels of watching a movie come to life, because that is exactly what this book did. Emily Lawrence, As Seen on TV's narrator, captured the characters perfectly and this made for a nice, pleasant afternoon of reading.
Here is the kicker when it comes to me - I don't watch Hallmark movies and I never saw even one episode of Gilmore Girls. However, with popular culture being what it is, I could quite easily connect this book to Hallmark movies and also to the television show. That alone is what made this book really work for me. For the author to give me strong vibes, strong connections to those iconic movies and that memorable TV show proves that she knows her readers well. Of course, I can see weeks and months of binge watching ahead, all thanks to this pleasant read - apropos as the town was Pleasant Hollow.
Many thanks to Forever and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Adina Gellar loves Hallmark movies - You know the ones: typically set in a small town and "against all odds" the two main characters fall in love. Well, that is exactly what she is expecting in Pleasant Hollow (which is just a few hours outside of New York). Except Pleasant Hollow doesn't care about the big-city developer moving in on their town, nor do they have quaint little events in the town square. Pleasant Hollow doesn't even bake their own baked goods! It's a travesty really. That is until Finn Adams. Is Finn her dream man that she was supposed to meet? Or just another one of those disappointments from Pleasant Hollow?
Despite being well written, I just couldn't get into this novel. It took me waaaay longer than it should have to finish a 300-some page book. I mean, I liked Finn as a character well enough, but Adi? I found her to be very annoying. Once she realized that Pleasant Hollow was not a cozy town like in Gilmore Girls or any other made-for-tv romance movie, she still does not grow up. She felt like a teenager to me, instead of a full grown 25-year old woman.
I wish I had more to say about this book, but like I said, it just wasn't for me. It didn't grab my attention. I hope others have better luck with this one! I see lots of good reviews, but I just can't give it more than 2/5 stars.
A huge thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for a free copy of this book for my honest review.
This book took the plot of a Hallmark movie and completely turned it upside down in a really cute, funny, and clever way. I enjoyed it so much!
New York City journalist Adina Gellar sparks an idea to write a piece on the nearby small town Pleasant Hollow, having the impression it'll be as charming as her beloved TV movies. But instead of being greeted with welcoming hugs, homemade pie, and community parties, Pleasant Hollow is simply your average small town.
Desperate to find any smidge of resemblance to the picturesque image she created, Adina definitely had a BIG misunderstanding of small towns. Her obliviousness was silly, yes, but so funny! And even more unexpected for Adina, she falls for the antagonist in her planned story, the big-city developer Finn Adams.
I loved these two, especially seeing Adina let go of her expectations of the perfect man, and Finn finding someone that won't run from his complicated commitment to family. And I have to say, this grand gesture was so adorable!
(heat level: a few open-door scenes, moderate to explicit details)
This was such a cute book! I went in blind and so I had no idea what to expect. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It is full of such great characters too!
AS SEEN ON TV spins a well-loved trope on its head, resulting in a charming story that will have you viewing your own life through new eyes. Both laugh-out-loud funny and heartbreakingly relatable, this is an absolute must-read!
Full disclosure, this book is from a publisher I have a book coming out with AND while I don't know the author well, I've spoken to her on social media and I have friends in common with her (smart friends whose opinions I trust). That said, no matter how much I like the people involved in this book I don't think I could've read it in a single sitting if it wasn't actually good. And I did and it was lovely. Warm and genuine and very real. And again, genuine but warm, because I think those are the best adjectives to describe it, in that order.
Adi (short for Adina--and what the love interest calls her) Geller is a freelancer trying to land a full time job at a publication where she interned. Her and her mother live together in NYC and their rent is going up, and that makes getting her career on track along with her part-time jobs as a barista and a spin instructor, kind of priority. A pitch of hers is accepted to write about a small town in upstate NYC kind of like it's a Hallmark movie, and the angle she thinks she has is a developer coming in and changing it.
However, when she gets up there she soon learns that the development isn't really a problem and the town while distinct and interesting is neither Hallmark nor Deliverance. She does, however begin a relationship with a manager on the development project who is there temporarily from NYC. His name is Finn and he is extremely sweet and fun and charming but also dealing with difficult things in his own life which he sometimes uses as a crutch to not et too close to people.
What ensues is both Adi searching for her story and Finn and Adi trying to find love together in a very real world, in which even "wins" don't solve all your problems and nothin is simple, however, love and friendship and caring is worth the effort.
And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Jewish representation since Adi is Jewish and I'm Jewish. It's very clearly a part of her life but not an emphasis in the book. It's just lovely representing in which she is allowed to be an interesting person and have an adventure with that neither being and "issue," nor not a part of her, which is really special. Her and her mom are just Jews like tons of Jews out there, celebrating our holidays, looking for our regular culture lens, and living our normal, regular lives, with normal regular job and financial and relationship struggles.
Also, shout out to Adi's relationships with her mother and her best friend Kate. They were so well done and also REAL but sweet and strong and just a joy to real. Anyway, I really adored this book. So thank you very much to Forever and NetGalley for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honestly, and only slightly biased review.
This is a cute contemporary rom-com set in upper New York. Adina Geller is a struggling NYC journalist trying to land her first full-time writing job and weed through a dismal pool of men uninterested in a real relationship. She is enamored with made-for-tv romance movies, the Gilmore Girls, and the allure of small town life. When she finds out about a big city real estate magnet developing a large complex in a small town, she thinks she's finally found the perfect story that will finally land her the dream job and maybe even her dream man. Except the small town is nothing like the ones on tv, the only man she's found, Finn, is from NYC, and the story she thought she could write doesn't exist.
I liked the flirtation between Adina and Finn and there was definitely chemistry. There are plenty of pop culture mentions and while I don't watch made-for-tv romances, I do love Gilmore Girls and loved all of the references. Initially I liked Adina's energy and the fact that she didn't give up, but she eventually started to come off as self-obsessed and tone-deaf to what others around her are going through. There was one scene in particular with Finn about 80% into the book in which she was so off the mark, so selfish and in the wrong, that if I had been reading a physical book instead of my ipad, I would have thrown it against the wall. Trust me, you'll know it when you read it. For that reason, I had to lower my rating. The ending of the book in which we got our HEA seemed rushed to me, but I did like how it ultimately ended. The spice level in this book is a 1.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing). All opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved this book. It’s about this plucky and determined journalist, Adina, who overly influenced by years of watching Hallmark movies, heads to a small town determined to write a story about how a big developer is destroying the local business. Of course, all is not like it is in the movies, especially when she meets Finn, the real estate guy.
Some things I loved about this Book:
* I appreciated that Adina had her own goal separate from the romance at the start of the story. The fact she was invested in building her career, made me invested in her as a character. I also just loved how hopeful, dreamy, and chipper she is… I could totally envision her skipping through Pleasant Hollow, a notebook clutched to her chest.
*I loved her relationship with Finn and the way he banters with Adina. I got that he was a good guy from the get-go, even though our unreliable narrator is certain to make him the enemy. I also loved the dichotomy of them – that she is a dreamer, and he is a realist—all woven into the backdrop of a Hallmark-obsessed woman whose vision of small-town life had been brutally flipped on its head.
*All the towns’ characters, even when we meet them briefly, jump off the page. I especially loved her meeting with Garrett, and whether she realized it or not, how similar they both were in judgments of the “other” without really experiencing that “other” firsthand.
*I loved that Adina, a Jewish protagonist, spends a moment thinking about eating bacon and goes home for Shabbat/Rosh Hashanah. Though Adina is more on the unobservant side of things, these decisions place the character in a Jewish worldview. I appreciated seeing this on the page!
*Finally, this book brought me all the joy! It was quick, funny, and easy to read… even when foggy. It is absolutely going on my list of favorite romances ever!
This book is a perfect beach read. It’s great for people who love Hallmark, want a book that isn't too serious, or need a laugh. It has some of those very favorite, and classic, romance tropes—including the heroine/hero sharing a B&B, etc. It also has some steamier scenes, but mainly, As Seen on TV by Meredith Schorr is a sweet read that is guaranteed to make your heart smile.
A Jewish journalist/spin instructor heroine in a Stars Hollow esque setting?! Was this book written specifically for me? In Meredith Schorr's traditionally published debut, Adina Geller is nothing but relatable to this NYC single girl., complete with a Rosh Hashanah dinner scene! Don't even get me started on Finn - the Chris Hemsworth hero who steals Adina's heart.
I have read some of Meredith's prior novels as well and have loved all of them, I certainly look forward to more from her in the future.
Thank you to Forever for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
As Seen On TV' follows Adina or Adi as she struggles to hunt for a job which at last puts her journalism degree to use and simultaneously looking for her perfect match in the city of New York. All while she idolizes the small town life, where she might finally meet her Happy Ever After and a tight knit community which accepts her, but she might not have known that all small towns are not carbon copies of the ones from some hallmark movie and that her fantasy might remain a fantasy forever. - ~ - Adi and Finn are good together, Adi brings out Finn's fun, humorous side while he gives her the unrestrained support she deserves. They've both been through a lot their whole life and have finally met someone who understands the other's pain.
Although I must say, that a specific argument towards the end, was absolutely unnecessary but thankfully the protagonist's mum talked some sense into her and the confessions which entailed were probably the most realistic in terms of grand gestures.
In the end I'd say 'As Seen On Tv' is a fluffy, relaxing read perfect to be read at night while you're tucked in your cozy bed. Certainly recommended.

A big thanks to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) & Netgalley for providing an advanced copy of this book, which I voluntarily read & reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really liked the premise of this one and thought how the author took a typical small town romance story and flipped everything upside down was not only adorable but also clever. I adore both small town romance movies and books so many of the references made me giggle in appreciation. Small town life does not always mean cute little festivals, insta love and quirky neighbors and that’s more than apparent in Pleasant Hollow. It was a really unique take on the genre and I totally appreciated reading something fresh. I found Adi to be very relatable, she was fun and witty and said so many things that made me laugh. Finn as a sort of anti hero was still charming in his own right and I believed their relationship story as well as their chemistry. I think the narrator, Emily Lawrence was great too, she made listening an enjoyable experience. Overall a fun and light read that will be perfect this summer.
3.5 Stars Adina wants to be a journalist full-time but hasn't been able to crack it into the business. She comes up with an idea to write a Hallmark movie come to life in nearby, sleepy Pleasant Hollow. Of course, things don't go her way and everywhere she turns, Adina is surprised to not find herself in a Gilmore Girls experience with a quirky handyman Kirk, or nosy, busy-body Taylor. In fact, no one seems to care about anyone or anything else. I liked this book quite a lot, but didn't love it as much as I expected. I went in under the assumption it was Hallmarky, so I expected big city girl in a small town with a sweet romance. All of Adina's hopes and dreams for her small town expose versus what she actually got was the fun I needed but I didn't adore the romance or the love interest, Finn. He didn't treat her all that well and it is hard to get on board with a guy that refuses to see what's being thrown at him. I read the first half and then listened to the second half of the audiobook. The narration by Emily Lawrence is well-done and she's one I've listened to several times in the past. Thank you to Forever and Netgalley for the advanced copy and to Hachette for the alc. All thoughts in this review are my own.
REVIEW: I loved this adorable, charming, and the perfect cherry pie sweet read. The writing is fall in love romantic, readable, and relatable. I loved Adi and Finn - their relationship is authentic and found them both addictive to read. I had fun spending time with these lovable characters - laughing, swooning, and just the perfect feel good read I need. This was definitely one of my favorite contemporary romance I have read this year.
Hilarious, a little spicy, heartwarming, and so delectable, AS SEEN ON TV is such a feel-good book to escape into. Meredith Schorr has long been one of my go-to rom com authors because her voice is incomparable, and her characters are so fun and relatable. Adina Gellar is one of my favorites because she's perfectly flawed, vulnerable yet strong, and goes after what she wants. Grab this book now because it's THE perfect summer read!
What a delight! After a streak of bad reads, this was like a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed this book since the very first chaper. The “rom-com” term is totally fitting for this story. It was funny, romantic, and would make a perfect Hallmark movie, which is super important and you will understand if you read the book!
Adina is a city girl tired of dating and trying to get her dream job in Manhattan, so she decides to write a story for her journalism freelance job about a dreamy small town, hoping to find the love Hallmark movies and romance novels promise in said setting and a permanent job. However, Pleasant Hollow is anything but pleasant, and the people in it don’t welcome Adina with open arms and a freshly-baked pie. I loved this twist on small town romances, especially when she ends up falling for the only city boy living there with her. Finn was such a dreamy hero! And I loved Adina. She was super relatable for me, and maybe that’s why I enjoyed this book so much.
Another thing I loved deeply was Adina and her mom ‘s relationship. I need more positive mom-daughter relationships in romance, because it was so beautiful. The support and the unconditional love made me so emotional!
Finn’s dad’s plot wasn’t my favorite part of the book, but I could understand both Adina and Finn’s sides. Handling an alcoholic parent has to be extremely hard, and it takes a lot of understanding and empathy. I liked how everything turned out in the ending, and the grand gestures (yes, plural!) were the cutest.
