As much as I love him, it's always great to see Veldora taken down a peg or two, and this is exactly the volume for that. Plus, we got to learn more about Hinata's origin and the origin of the Luminus faith, and Rimuru got to share some quality time (and food!) with another "outworlder" like him.
Chapter notes below for personal reference: (potentially spoiler heavy)
Tagging "dragon" even though the one in question is in human form (except in his speech bubbles), and "lgbtq" because Rimuru admits to being physically agender (though still mostly identifying as male, since he was in his past life). The latter isn't new to this volume, but I figured I'd tag anyway, since his gender specifically becomes an issue.
As I mentioned in my backdated review of book 1, the direction this series has taken is starting to get a bit tiring. Most of the interesting parts were in establishing the country (Jura Tempest Federation), the school with the unruly kids, and the whole war wherein many of the characters—most notably, Shion—had been killed, and Rimuru went through a lot of low-success-rate shenanigans to resurrect them.
This volume is most specifically, "Veldora gets what's coming to him."
To be fair, those parts are kind of funny, in the sense of "the bully gets his due" funny (also, he can totally take it). The rest is more "Hey, I remember Japan, and I recreated Japan," but Hinata is irritated by that for some reason. I don't know. It feels like the main story has already ended, and the creator(s) had just been dragging it out in order to stay employed. I admit I haven't read the light novel, so I don't know if the story is better when it's written without constraint for pacing and other things that fail in manga conversions. All I know is the plot is losing me at this point. Not "I don't get it" losing me, but "Ehhh, I could be reading something else" losing me.
Fine if you liked the immediately prior volumes of this series, since it's pretty much the same. Not recommended if you're absolutely new to the series, because you'll be totally lost.
I don't know if my enjoyment of this volume was impacted by the actual content or whether I couldn't wait to read this one after the last and for the first time decided to read it online. It was a pretty solid light hearted volume which I appreciated. I love the relationship that Rimuru and Hinata have been developing and am eager to find out more about the angel's war that keeps subtly coming up. That will definitely be the next big thing. I wonder how Rimuru's relationships with the other "other-worlders" will unfold. There's still a lot more to the story and I'm glad that we have these types of volumes in the middle with more lighthearted themes and world building whilst it doesn't feel like a filler and enhances the story even more - the perfect balance.
This volume was mostly just their to set up the next big arc as we get a resolution to the conflict between Tempest and The Holy Empire Ruberios. It was funny seeing Hinata in a casual environment and I do like how they address the issues between each side as yeah the Holy Knight did help Falmus invade and kill several of Rimuru's friends. And Ruberios does have a reputation of hating monsters but they do resolve that in a certain way and it was nice seeing them discuss this and try to move forward. It was also cool seeing King Gazel react to recent events and we finally meet the Empress of the Sorcery Kingdom.
Lubelius shows up to smack some sense into her overly zealous clergy, save Hinata (we also get a bit of her backstory), and everything is great... except the looming threat that is Yuuki puppet-ing things from the shadows, Cerberus, and the Rozzo family (whoever those people actually are).
Then there's lots of political talk because Tempest and the Western are still technically enemies, so peace treaties need to be made. But most of it is about food and now I'm hungry too. Also, Lubelius being a lesbian with the hots for Hinata (or just a classic vampire, I dunno).
What I really enjoy about this manga is it’s not just about the battles. The interplay between factions, between characters that were just enemies and are now becoming friends. Rimuru is such a good person deep down, to want to get everyone to just have a good time and chill. I’m liking the vampire demon lord Lady Luminus, she has just enough mystery to her actions and her battling with Veldora is funny as heck. And is Hinata starting to lighten up? The buildup for the next arc has me salivating! This was a top notch volume!
This was a great volume, so much was accomplished I think. We had the "incident" with the Seven Days Clergy tied up and that was interesting to say the least. Veldora getting his butt kicked all over by Luminas for a slip of the lip which I thought would derail everything but glad to see how it worked out. Plus we got to see something of Hinata's past life. Rimuru has such huge plans and I am curious to see how he gets it all done. My biggest concern is all the players in the wing left to oppose him and what mischief they will bring to the table.
I love this series, the characters are so cute and fun, and then super cool when it counts. This is a book of after the fight, so it’s not an action packed volume but it’s always fun to see the characters interacting.

Now this feels like a big epilogue. Most of the stuff from the beginning is resolved and we are getting our calm before the next storm. Also i se it as good place to take a break from this series. It was fun but it's starting to get a bit formulaic so lets put some distance.
Conclusion of the battle with the Seven Days Clergy, and the fate of Hinata, are covered here, s is Demon Lord Luminas and what her role is in all of this. This book is a little less exciting since most of this volume is talking and negotiating, but it was all very interesting.
