It's increasingly difficult to keep track of the story in Fairy Tail from its MILLION offshoots (of which this is the only one I follow, since Mashima is at least still doing SOME work on it), particularly since it has Dragon Ball levels of power creep making every new antagonist required by law of dramatic tension to be somehow exponentially stronger than literally any character they've ever encountered before, including the strongest person in all of history, ever (until we need a stronger one, I guess... history is strangely short).
Even so, I like the series for its amazing consistency; ignore the mathematical impossibility of someone stronger ALWAYS being on the horizon without some kind of regular levelling of the playing field occurring, every story arc is fairly consistent in its twists and turns. They have a quest, they meet some antagonist(s), they fight the antagonist(s), they temporarily lose, they have some revelation or trick that allows them to regain traction in the fight, they come from behind and win!
(Also, the regular cheesecake, but that's on Mashima. At least he pretends to be equal opportunity with Gray and a few odd other dudes.)
This volume at least has some interesting twists in it that I like! The "Love Bond" gimmick is . ❤️
I don't know if I can recommend this except to anyone who has read literally all the rest of Fairy Tail (at least the main series and the 12 prior volumes of this one). It's pretty good, though, if you can get through all that!
This volume is one of pure action, as we follow the multiple fights happening. The very first few chapters were nothing incredible, and some action scenes were similar to ones we got before. Especially with all the antagonists that are somehow always stronger and stronger. But Fairy Tail is nothing if not extremely fun to read, and it started getting REALLY good as the entire team was fighting to get to each orb holding the Earth Dragon’s power. This manga does it best when they all have to ally to reach their goals, and this one was especially satisfying as you can see each member working to their maximum to help Natsu bring defeat to his enemy.
I especially liked Gray’s battle in this volume. He is definitely a feminist king, and it was fun to see him teach his ways to a random villain. It always feels amazing to see how much he developed in regards to his feelings for Juvia. He’s not ashamed of them anymore, and he proved in this fight he was the one to know her best.
Of course, we also got the insane fight that was Laxus’s. I still don’t understand why this man is so unliked, because he’s genuinely one of the strongest characters of this entire manga, and he displays a feral part of himself everytime he fights that feels very satisfying. I get so much joy to see him get better and better, and he truly grew to be one my favorite characters.
I liked seeing Natsu team up with Suzaku. Both their personalities compliment each other really well, and it’s definitely fun to see them join their powers as well. This fight was definitely incredible, and I can’t wait to see how it’s going to conclude.
I am here for the girl power in this volume, it is so satisfying. Gajeel and Gray hold both their partners in such high esteem ❤️
Anyways, this volume is ripe with typical fairy tail stuff. Natsu keeps trying until it works. The bad guy isn't actually a bad guy and is helping Fairy Tail, you know, the usual. I am never mad about this, but I keep reading reviews where some people are, so I mean, whatever tickles your fancy.
The coolest and most out of the blue part for me was Laxus, 100%. Cause as much as I know he's very anti dad, I genuinely didn't think he would potentially give up his magic. He didn't actually, and maybe he knew that it wouldn't stop him, but still. That was cool.
Anyways, this volume had a good balance of cool fights, the good guys winning, and funny moments.
Also fuck God Serena.

Well that is one way to find out who loves who. Once again fairy tail working together to beat the enemy. And one person never stays on one side for long. I love how they still show each character still thinks they are weak no matter now powerfully they are.
Lol, weird that the Alchemy guy thinks women=weaker but I guess that is a stereotype. I'm glad Fairy Tail doesn't follow that. It was sweet to see Gajeel say Levy was important to him.
Hopefully everyone escapes the labyrinth okay. Kick his butt Natsu!
