Combat Journalism: Ten Years of the Washington Free Beacon, 2012-2022

Rate this book
A collection of the Washington Free Beacon’s best work over the past the pieces that made us laugh, the reports that ended careers, and the news writing that best captures the spirit of our combat journalism.

“At the Beacon, we follow only one Do unto them.” That was the cri de coeur that launched the Washington Free Beacon a decade ago. Since then, the Free Beacon has been ferreting out the stories the mainstream media has tried to ignore, exposing the hypocrisy, the lies, the bullying, and the bigotry of the enemies of freedom. In this book, you will find the best of the Free Beacon's hard-hitting reporting—and a written record of the elected officials, mainstream media darlings, and woke icons left in its wake.

This is a collection of pieces from the first 10 years of the Washington Free Beacon. The WFB has done the investigative reporting that the main stream media doesn't do, either because its too lazy, or because it conflicts with the narrative the are invested in. The book is broken down into 8 sections. Unless you are a real political junky, or really tied into the DC scene, not everything will be of interest. This is what I found to be the case.

I gave this 4 stars, because the book started out with a lot of detail on financing, which I was not as interested in. I would have preferred for this to come at the end. There are some incredible pieces. The last article, was very powerful. I first discovered the editor, Eliana Johnson, editor-in-chief of the WFB, from the Ink Stained Wrecks pod cast, since ended, and Matt Continetti, founding editor of the WFB, from the Commentary Magazine podcast.
I'm surprised that there is only one other rating on Goodreads for this book. Recommended for anyone interested in current events and want to read what the MSM won't cover.
