Just when you think everything in life is flowing the way it needs to, a curve ball is thrown to cause havoc. Sometimes havoc is good though. It opens the doors for new interactions and connections. Kween Yuller is a successful woman that has everything she wants. Her sisters are her biggest supporters, and her job loves the ground she walks on. Her everyday life consists of Geno Tech and caffeine. Jelani Rhodes is a reformed felon that is focused on his daughter and the café his wife left behind. His world stopped when his wife died and now, he’s trying to move on with life. Melanated Café has a loyal customer that will help him move on indeed. Sometimes we just need a distraction to help us cope with things. However, don’t let the distraction become the main focus.
This was kind of like an extended prologue. Some of the path to get to the happy for now with Jelani and Kween was a little extra but it was entertaining.
Damn, this was sexy as hell! Coffee wasn't the only thing getting served in Melanated Cafe! Kween and Jelani found each other, after enduring trauma in their lives, and needing a distraction. Kween was bold, walking up on this stranger, telling him she wanted him! But, Jelani was with it, and it was on! One could tell that feeling were starting to brew pretty quickly, although neither would admit it right away. Enjoyed this quick read, but wanted more. Hope we see these two again soon! 👍👍👍
Sometimes, novellas provide the best storylines, and this is one of those times. Jelani and Kween started off as strangers at a coffee shop with an instant attraction to one another, but ended up as friends with benefits.
It would be great to get a follow-up story of these two to see if a relationship develops, but if not, that's okay also. A great book to end the year.
3-3.5 stars I wanted more! More character development, more relationship development. And with some of the heavier issues here, there needed to be more resolution. I’ll def try this author again though, because I enjoyed the setup and writing.
I know this was a novella, which I loved…but I want more of Kween and Jelani. Will they make it? Will Zach try to make an appearance again, what?? Loved the title to each chapter too.
I enjoyed this short and I really want more from this couple. Kween and Jelani wanted more the moment they saw each other, but each had their reasons for wanting to use the other for benefits only. I liked that they seemed to help the other through by using each other’s bodies but also realizing that they wanted more from each other. I hope this author circles back to this couple so we can see how their benefits turned to friends with benefits situation ends up.
I want to go to Melanated Cafè to if this is how they giving it up lol. I loved this storyline. It was short and sweet. Kween and Jalani both saw eachother and it was instant attraction. They both started off using eachother due to being hurt in their personal lives. They started to realize that both of their feelings was involved with eachother. I would love to see alil update on these two because I felt like it was just cooking up. Definitely would recommend.
This book was a beautiful amount of spiciness, smoothness, and u expectedness. Kween who see,ed to always know what she wanted and to get it stepped outside of herself to be pleasantly surprised in Jelani who didn’t see anything new other than what he had right now and the distraction is life 😍
Kueen and Jelani were hot 🥵! I loved the rebound love trope! I needed more..... much more! I wanted her to meet the daughter and i wanted a relationship!!!
Side note.... this cover was amazing! It made me read the book!
I loves this short story and what it encompassed! Love and loss in different ways! I love how Kween & Jelani connected, they were adults doing adult things that brought on unexpected feelings. Hope to see more of them.
A quick little read with likeable, interesting characters. The trauma both characters are experiencing leads them to the beginning of a friendship/ situationship. Starting as sex buddies and then wanting more.
This was a wonderful read. I'm sad it was short because I wanted to know how Sohl liked her and see how the relationship progressed. I'm hoping an update will come of this couple soon.
It seemed like the story had just started when it said the end. I enjoyed reading it and was definitely shocked when she got home and Zach had his little family there. I would’ve done the same thing she did lol.
Loved how she controlled the narrative. Being self aware and having the ability let go it was captivated me. I love their beginning and so looking forwarded to their future.
I’m a HUGE Connie Easton fan. This book just wasn’t for me. 🤷🏾♀️ It’s a quick read, but something about the pace and the events didn’t do it for me. I still think others will enjoy it.
