Winter brought more than just snow and cold to post-EMP northern Minnesota. Hunger and death came for many. For Marcus, it brought new love, old friends…, and an enemy invasion.
Trouble continues to follow Marcus and his friends, even out in the middle of the woods, but some of Marcus’ deepest wishes come true… and he may have even found a use for that diamond ring from the last story!
Help comes from an unexpected avenue—but will it be enough to turn the tides in his favor?
… you have: TOW missiles & good ol’ home crafted Molotov cocktails + passionate, patriotic Americans (militia members, Army, Guard..) + extremely unwanted & uninvited foreign “visitors” (plus their armored transports of war) + zero help from The Top… All within a “gone dark & desperate” North America! Of course, I have to note that this story was written by Mark Loren & Boyd Craven Jr. - which 100% guarantees a slam dunk enjoyable read from page one. As well as checking all the boxes along the way, for perfect pacing, amount of action, & plot/subplot’s connection to the larger series. There is never a “dull section,” or moment, within this book. It’s tight writing for sure. Not one wasted page or unnecessary word. (*applauds editors!*) Fantastically interesting characters who are complex, lovable, heroic, & repugnant, in addition to being rich with backstory. They also grow as people, which is difficult for many authors to pull off. The Minnesota Fall 2 world is colorful, texturized, & chock full of sounds & scents. When reading, you easily become immersed in the author’s intention for us. I can clearly remember this one single moment in the story when a character is in the snow blanketed woods, & all is still & silent when he …. very slowly … moves his hand and … snaps a small branch. To garner the attention of his mate. It wasn’t an important occurrence. Nor noteworthy within the context of the overriding tale in any way at all. Just one tiny detail among dozens of others. But it stood out to me in the moment; the slight snapping like a gunshot. And it’s crossed my mind numerous times since. And it’s because the writing is just so darn exceptional. I was there in the woods with the characters, in that point in time & space with them. So much so that when the tiny sprig *snapped* - it felt jarring to me. (In a good way! Lol) Like I wanted to look around to make sure no one heard. Even though, in reality of course, I was sitting in my warm house sipping a cup of coffee. And I could be fairly sure no “bad guys” heard the fictional snapping sound coming from the pages of my …. errr …. screen. ;) I could even *feel* the sensation of the small act of bending a tiny branch .. until it hits it’s breaking point. While the rest of the snowy white (woodsy) world around you is utterly silent & still. So, yeah - Mark Loren, & especially Boyd Craven Jr., are masters of their craft. Overall, Minnesota Fall 2 is a great addition & fit within the October Fall Series. (And it is Book 6 within the October Fall Series. I know, numbers! They can be hard. Ha! ;) ABSOLUTELY worth the read as just a Minnesota Fall “Mini Series” on its own, or as part of the greater whole, October Fall Series. Thus far, I think(?) Minnesota Fall is my favorite part of the larger on-going story. (It’s difficult to remember, as they are each so good!! Lol!) I’m going to miss all of these wonderfully exciting characters & intriguing storyline as I move forward to Korea Fall next. But you can bet, I’ll definitely be counting down the books until I can spend time with them all once again! I’ll also wager you’ll feel the same way too! ;) …..
I enjoy the series alot. The plot is good and I like the continuation of the story from different perspectives, and different authors, but I think that is also part of the problem. One problem is the time line , the first book from the original author was started near the first year of covid so I wish the "new" authors of the would pay attention to that and stay in that time frame, instead they are interjecting things into the story that are happening now or I should say after that first year of covid and those things would not have happened since the story originally started when covid was new, an example is they are talking about being vaccinated but THE STORY STARTED BEFORE VACCINES WERE CREATED! That is just one example. I feel the writers are trying too hard to make the story be relevant to now and trying to voice their opinions on what is happening in the world , I read to get away from all that. And how many times did all the characters have to talk about how " she loves him and he loves her and we all have great partners and we are so lucky and we have a home and food and family and livestock and a stocked cellar and i love him and he loves me " I swear I could make a drinking game out it! This book could easily been cut in half if they didn't keep talking about it in pretty much every chapter, I finally got to the point I would try to skip most of the dialog. Sorry but in this book I just had to rant about that aspect it was too much, just like my review!!
What a ride. Fighting in this climate takes special skills. While doing their best to survive and stay hidden, the 3 musketeers take the fight, gorilla style, to the invaders. Causing much damage and demoralization of the fighting spirit of their adversaries, the group finds friends to help them. Looking forward to the next one, great job Mark and Boyd. This is the best of the series so far.
I enjoyed the book, but his writing style is wearing on me. It is so basic. All of his characters have same personality (for the most part). He repeats the same information, in the same way, from several different characters in the story. I was really hoping that his writing style would develop more as he wrote more books, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Just my two cents, but I think I may be done reading his books.
Outstanding series. The characters have determination, heart & grit. They form a strong group and count on each other for survival. When Russia invades they are determined to push back against the enemy. I love that the women fight right beside their men and are fierce, loyal and brave. I love the growing interwoven storyline that involves reoccurring characters and intertwined stories Really great idea
The story takes place on the Minnesota / Canadian border in the snow bound winter. It was believable. The Russian military advances down through Canada, and our good guys challenge them. I liked that none of our good guys got killed. I am ready for another book.
An excellent read and a very good EMP adventure! I loved the characters and the interaction between them. I really like the way other books in the series such as Black Hills Fall, connect and gives the reader the big picture of a Russian invasion into the US via Canada. Highly recommended!
Excellent read could not put it down. Near the beginning I got turned off. Felt like I was in grade school listening to a bunch of kids. But it did get really good and exciting.
This book is a great read and I love the continuation of October Fall series. There are however lots of typos in this book. If you need help proofreading your next book, I’d be glad to help!
Excellent follow to the start of the series and the group of apocalypse stories making the rounds. Good battle scene description with the adrenaline rush of the person doing the fighting. More to come?
Set in snowy Minnesota after another EMP strike. The hero’s are three good buddies with combat experience, which makes it easier for them to be successful guerrilla fighters. Along with a quartet of beautiful girls who provide the love interest.
Starts out slow then picks up speed towards the end. But I really didn't need the beautiful chatty ladies taken on mission's . And worried about their looks .
I've been holed up with this series of books all week. It's one of the best I've ever read. The characters are believable and fully realized. I'm just enjoying it so much!
After Felix and brick show up Marcus and the crew become the vandals And take on the Russians eventually hooking up with members of the red bull Minnesota national guard. Together they take on the Russians
