I’m not afraid of evil in the world. I’m afraid of them.
Creaking floorboards. Muffled screams. Once night falls I can’t remember why I came back to Davenport manor.
What I do remember is why I wanted out of here so badly in the first place.
They aren’t men. They’re predators.
They don’t love. They hunt.
Now that I’m back I’m no longer family. I’m their prey.
Hunted is Kindle Vella serial by best selling authors Angel Lawson and AK Rose. This is a collection of episodes 1-20 and is considered on-going. This book is a DARK/BULLY romance. It contains graphic content that some readers may be particularly sensitive to. Readers can expect high heat, lots of twists, and dark gothic family drama.
Was this book really written by Angel? because her Serendee and Royals of Forsyth is in another league from this book.
Kate is probably the most stupid character that I ever read about, she goes back to the city because she’s useless in finding herself a job, than she apparently tries to use the guys to write a story, she finds a clue and decide to go alone after a serial rapist that murders woman with her profile, WTF? And no, making your character admit that she shouldn’t had done that doesn’t make her less of an idiot.
The cherry on the cake for me was for Kate to acuse a guy of rape when he didn’t do it, while covering for the actual rapist, making him an innocent, what about the families of the real victims? You’re making them believe that a guy that didn’t do anything murdered their loved ones. What about rape victims that aren’t believed, and here you are a JOURNALIST lying about being raped because you’re useless and needs your stepfather to find you a job.
If you want to be free from the guys just fucking leave? Honestly isn’t that hard considering that you got to the cabin alone and only later they appeared there. And do that whole show to the FBI when there’s three other people that will certainly want to kill you? One of them are on the police, how can someone be so stupid?
There's so many errors, so many missing words, it's just a disappointing book, I don't know, it's a less than 200 pages book and it took me five days to read it and I won’t read the next because it is that bad.
I refuse to believe that Angel wrote this book when she handled Rape and Abuse só well on her Royals series.
This was dark, depraved, naughty, but oh so delicious. I was warned of just how dark it was. Truly it is every bit of that and more. The warnings are not lying. Please heed them, but if you’re looking for something that will make you squirm in the best of ways - read this!
Kate abruptly leaves town, goes to college, tries to live her life despite the feeling of something missing. Something she tries to find, but knows she’ll never really find it. It’s only found behind old walls and dark eyes. After years, she returns to where it all started. Back into the clutches of her dearest stepbrothers. They warned her, but like the bad girl she is… she didn’t listen. Now, she has the fight of her life ahead of her. They aren’t playing around this time. Shit got real and it’s for keeps.
Jack and Oliver will stop at nothing to finish what they’ve started. They have reinforcements. Two men you’ll never see coming. Who are in plain sight and who have their sights on one girl who unwilling will be their doom if she has anything to do with it!
Can’t wait for the next installment! Holy crap that ending. These dudes scare me. I can’t tell if they have any good in them. Well, maybe one, but he knows how to lie like the best of them.
This book just felt off to me from the start. We are thrown in after everything already happened and the h is coming back home. In some stories, this style makes for an intriguing story that keeps us guessing. This style, however, didn't work for me with this book. It was pretty obvious from the get go what happened and when we finally get the whole story - at a very odd time might I add - it felt kinda laughable, honestly. We have 4 Hs who aren't really fleshed out, don't have much more going on then harassing the h, and two who have inconsistent characters. Their entire crusade is because they can't stand r@pists, yet what have they done to the h and we are told that the cop forces himself on women he pulls over. The ending was a whole other can of worms I'm not touching. I get it was supposed to be this huge twist but it didn't feel honest. It didn't match the rest of the story. The whole book just felt rushed and nonsensical to me and the guys felt like the authors were trying to make these uber bad boys that you can't help but fall for, but I felt nothing but disgust and dislike for them.
So I love Angel’s other series (Lords and Dukes) and figured I’d give this a shot. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to my expectations. It felt like there was disconnect between Jack seeing himself as doing justice by killing monsters and then being on himself, which I guess could be on purpose but it just read awkward to me. Plus the ending was a bit convoluted and I didn’t really love the FMC. I probably won’t read the next book in the series and will just wait for Dukes of Peril to come out in October!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
They're vigilantes yet sex offender themselves. Which makes no sense. So they can sexually assault somebody but as long as they don't kill them it's OK then. I found these characters so contradictory. Also I was expecting something different than a bukkake for her reason for leaving.
It honestly ruined the book for me and goes to show what a dumbass Kate is.
No character development or real depth to them!
Jack Davenport: doesn't hide his inner psycho, cold, unreadable, likes to hurt and maim, impulsive, rough Oliver Davenport: exhibitionist Davis Higgins: detective, Jack's best friend, sadist Paul Sanders: psychiatrist, understands the importance of boundaries, always stoic & calm, gives the pretense of being a nurturer
I hate that I loved this book so much! Once I picked it up I really couldn’t put it down.
Kate came back to town to take a job but has a run in with her stepbrothers who are part of the reason she left town to begin with. She finds out they like to murder rapists (a little ironic) and they force her to be bait for the one they haven’t had luck capturing, the binder.
That twist at the end was one I definitely didn’t see coming. I’ll be picking up book 2 to find out what happens next immediately!
The spice was written so well! 4/5🌶🌶🌶🌶 Stepbrother Primal - a little Knife play - a little Murderers MFMM Some praise Some degradation
Not sure how to rate this one....😐 I liked parts of it 🙂....other parts a bit meh. 😕
Its pretty much rapists hunting rapists, except one lot kills and the other torments there stepsister. They use stepsister as rape bait/while screwing with her. ( the anti hero's are 2 stepbro's and there 2 best friends)
Sis is sickened by and lusts after the sick bro/vigilantes. She wants to take them down one by one while also wanting them to f€&k her brains out, at the same time. I'd say she's as sick as them / and they are no better than the rapist/serial killers they hunt. That pretty much sums up this story. Now can I handle another 19 more instalments of this? 🤯🙄
Not a huge fan of the heroine. I did like the anti hero's individually. There is a bit of whiplash/contradictions and errors in this story.
And there is a scene where the guys get off on a video of evidence of a victim being abused...😬🤯
*************************
*Can someone please explain where Christopher disappeared to, maybe I blinked and missed it...but he was there, then suddenly he wasn't, towards the end???
*P19 - "My mom may be under the spell of her husband but she’s not the kind to aid and abed murderers." (aid and abet?)
Kate's eyes changing P26 - innocent brown eyes wide with fear P41 - Her eyes are the same vibrant blue.
Jacks eyes were also changing P15 - Jack eyes are Gray P111 - Jack’s cold blue eyes.
I have no idea who wrote this, but it was not the same Angel Lawson who co-wrote The Lords series (aka Forsyth U). The smut was gross and too insta-lusty for me. Heads-up this is only the first 20 chapters of the Kindle Vella series which has 41 chapters posted right now. I think Kindle Vella is a Jeff Bezos money trap where you have to pay for "coins" in order to access chapters of stories posted on the app. Basically don't waste your money if you are debating on going on Kindle Vella. Overall, the characters in this are extremely one dimensional and the revenge plot is shaky at best.
So I had a problem with the heroine in this one. She's in denial about what she wants and makes some really dumb decisions. She's pretty oblivious for an investigative reporter.
Well, if you are looking for a sick read, borderline taboo, then sure, it's a good story. 3 stars is the best I can give because of grammar errors and missing and wrong words.
I saw that ending coming about 5 minutes before it hit me. Holy crap, that was a rush. Probably one of my favorite cliffhangers because I'm excited with what it's going to bring in the next part 😈😈👿
Kate is back in town and the rules her stepbrothers laid down years ago, still apply. She breaks them and of course she has to bend to them and their friends. Jack, Oliver, Davis and Paul will use her to get what they need, no matter the consequences.
Without spoilers, this whole book was a rush. I had my eye on everyone and trying to put the clues together like everyone else. This was a short-ish read and I'm on the edge of my seat in anticipation of all the things that are coming.
This book.... So I'm not the best about leaving reviews about books but I do love me some dark, reverse harem ,romance ect and this book had so much potential. Let's just start off with bully, enemy to lovers is great, the step Brothers are supposedly serial killers that hunt down r@pists etc with two other people. Which sounds like it would make a great book but then you get to the point where it's revealed that the stepsister, the heroine of the book was forced by said stepbrothers and friends. It's also revealed that the cop of the group assaults women that he pulls over??? Like okay so your serial killers that kill r@pist but you are r@pists??? This book did not sit well with me at all and I like some dark stuff.
Could not get into this book. Started out really intriguing but then slowed down. Great premise and themes with stepbrothers, detectives, and mystery / thriller, but the execution was off. I can identify two writing styles in this co-write and what didn’t appeal to me was the overly prosy text, all the inner thoughts with no relief and not story progression. This could also be due to the book’s intended one chapter at a time delivery that caters to Kindle Vella, rather than being written and edited as a complete book. Either way, it’s not for me. I’m usually a fan of Lawson’s work. I’m less familiar with the other writer.
Very enjoyable and action packed R/H series, loved the characters and the plot. So much in this book to read that I’d spoil it if I say too much. Wonderful read
OMG OMG OMG! Very obsessed like I couldn't stop reading it. Okay before we begin. Check TW/CW this is much darker than lords or pain. Dark themes so please, if you are uncomfortable with the themes, just don't read this book. ⚠️⚠️⚠️
This book is WILD. W-I-L-D. I had the assumption, that it was just the stepbrothers, but no-no-no. It was more than that. I am a fan of crime stories. These are a bunch of vigilantes and they hunt very bad men, but it's freaking messed up, but I am trying my best not to spoil it.
One will expose you. One will humiliate you. One will dote on you and One will dominate you.
The FMC Kate has left town and she came back. Ooof. Chaos ensues. I was on the edge of my seat or couch reading this book. It is just one of these novellas that you read, which has a loooooot of plot and is packed with SMUUUUT, but it's thrilling cause it's more of a thriller tbh. Like I said it's darker than lords of pain so if you are familiar with that it's just oof and if you are not, just prepare for a lot of twisted...well just...mindfuckery and depravity.
- Dubcon and noncon - Unhinged and possessive Alphaholes - touch her and well suffer - Knife/Gun Play - Degradation and Praise Kink - Fear Play - Exhibitionism - Taboo romance - Reverse Harem - Brother's best friends
Spice 3.5/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶
Favorite: Paul and Jack 🥵🥵🥵
That plot twist and cliffhanger just ahhhhhhhhh made me scream and I really need to really read the next book. Can't wait for the next installment.
Dark. Depraved. Delicious. Everything you could want in a why choose, step sibling romance. I’m a true crime connoisseur so I was ready to devour this, but… Kate was a fucking moron. She was the Binder’s type to a T and she went after him ALONE. The Binder likes to BTRK (bind, torture, rape, kill) similar to the infamous BTK- Dennis Rader. Why the hell would Kate think she’d be safe going after The Binder alone? It’s not just moronic, it’s fucking insanity. Look, I understand the urge to investigate and do shit alone, but for fucks sake, you don’t do dumb shit like that. All she had to do was call one of her psycho men and they all would’ve been there in a heartbeat. I understand why Oliver, Jack, Paul and Davis are doing what they do. After witnessing what they did as children, then being failed by the police department, I too would go after vile men that hurt women like that. I’d do everything in my power to protect others from experiencing that type of violence and pain. Their way of serving justice might be, unconventional and a bloody mess but I kind of agree with it. Why should those vile pieces of shit get to live after the pain they’ve caused? Putting them in prison, where they get a bed and 3 meals a day, isn’t justice. Eye for an eye. You take a life or harm a life, we’ll take yours. End of. Like I said, unconventional and a little crazy, but I agree with the guy’s methods. Kate shouldn’t have fucked the guys over like she did. Those guys were correcting the systems failures and protecting others from pain and violence. Kate is a fucking moron and way in over her head. This is gonna come back and bite her in the ass, hard. I can’t wait to jump into book 2.
While reading this I was confused, anxious, and honestly terrified for Kate. (That changed) I honestly thought that this would be a situation where she saw some dark shit and joined forces with her vigilante step-brothers and their two friends, but nope. (Kinda) I thought it would be a reverse harem, but it kinda was kinda wasn’t. I didn’t like the two friends. The therapist gave me creepy vibes and the other is a psycho. The step-brothers were fucked up but Jack was my absolute favorite in the entire book. Yeah he’s dark and twisted but so what? What he endured in my opinion was so not necessary. My ass is cheering for him in book two! I’m on the edge of my seat to find out what happens in the next book. Yes my review is confusing but this is crazy train in a book, you have to read it to understand 🤷🏻♀️
I didn't hate it. Honestly, the fact that Hunted by My Stepbrothers was a KindleVella drop before this makes sense because it was incredibly fast paced, pretty short, and the end of each chapter (episode, I suppose in KV terms) was slightly unhinged in a way that you'd definitely want to keep going.
I also didn't love it? It FELT written by two people, and I think that was my biggest problem because it made the motivations and the character arcs a little wishy-washy. I also wish the time spent with the four guys felt a bit more even? It kind of felt ... lopsided, and that always bothers me a bit because I want them all (even if they're total straight up criminal d*bags) to get their fair shake and I didn't quite get that. But again, this is a series, Series 2 is dropping in bits as we speak, that could always change.
Also, I'm furious with that ending because it feels a bit like it came out of left field. Like I mentioned before, the character arcs felt a bit chaotically thrown together and not fully fleshed out, and so it didn't hit quite right because it just didn't make sense, especially with where the plot had been going and how the characters were developing. I get that it was supposed to be a big twist (and trust me it was) but it felt a bit forced and inauthentic. And so like, while I don't mind cliffhangers, this one made me throw my kindle, and I'm a little unsure of whether or not I want to continue, because that character that DID ruin everything kind of deserves everything coming their way.
So anyway, yeah. Easy to read through, very fast paced, very high steam (and very fast burn), lots of triggers (like I'm talking an astronomical number) but also very bizarre and I'm not quite sure how I feel aside from mad and confused and curious.
[I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review]
Let me be honest with you. I basically spent half of this book thinking it was just your general, run-of-the-mill dark, bully romance; and the other, wondering when I stepped into the crazy train and where the hell way it heading. You may laugh, but I'm not kidding.
This story kept me on my toes and at the edge of my imaginary seat (since I was reading in bed) as I was drawn this way and that between liking and being disgusted with characters. Even now, I really can't tell you that I liked any one, because they are ALL monsters. Knowing more backstory, may making me more sympathetic to some characters, but to others it makes me want to throat punch them. All I can tell you is that there is definitively going to be some sh!+ going down in the next book. While this book isn't for everyone, for those looking for the dark, humiliation, dub-con romance genre, this will float your boat.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is definitely dark and twisted. As of yet, I see nothing redeeming about these four men. They are pretty hypocritical as well. The authors are going to have their hands full redeeming them in the next part because without it this isn't a dark romance and instead would fall into more of erotic horror because there isn't anything romantic in it.
Even though the characters are sleep upside-down bat crap crazy, the storyline was intriguing. I wanted to see how Kate was going to get out of this situation.
4.5⭐️ Look, all I can say is in typical Angel Lawson fashion, I deadass had no idea where this was going and what any character was actually thinking until it had already happened. In saying that, I’m starting book 2 immediately because wtf was that ending??
If dark romance is your jam and you’re chill with a shopping list of trigger warnings and really f*cked up characters who make absolutely stupid decisions, then yeah, you’ll probs enjoy this👉🏼👉🏼
Listen I don’t know what to say. This was really fun and fast paced. The concept was interesting. The character dynamics were really interesting as well. Honestly Paul and Davis are whatever to be honest, especially Paul because I feel like he hardly has a personality. The ending of this was kind of insane lol.
Angel Lawson writes some of my fave dark romance (Lords of Forsyth is my #1 of all-time) and this was fun. I didn’t see that ending coming. It’s always a good balance of twisted shit and hot scenes with her. It’s hot stuff with a plot. She rules. This is my first A.K. Rose read and I loved it. I’ll read #2 after I get my hands on something funny and ridiculous to read in-between.
An interesting beginning. A steamy story with lots of mystery fuelling it. Definitely want to keep reading to find out what happens next. You can easily tell this was stitched together from the series though. It would benefit a lot from a solid edit.
I was not prepared for that ending. A mix of emotions that had me standing up, mouth open and looking down at my phone as if it had somehow turned into a severed limb or something equally as odd and alarming. I dont even know what to say about this book, it was... a lot. Brilliantly written with amazing storyline but for sure check your triggers cause it's a wild one.
Do we hate or do we love the brothers..... that is the question as the author takes you along the journey of Kate. If spicy is what you crave, this is for you x100. I was not prepared for the switch at the end. On to book 2
