Assassins are bad. Angry gods are worse. All that plus cults and demons? In the hero business, they call that Monday.
The worst thing about a man being led to his execution—aside from the whole impending death bit—was that he immediately tried to figure out what choice had brought him there. Which Dannen thought was ridiculous.
The one possible comfort a man could have, when faced with his own death, was that things simply could not get any worse.
The problem , of course, was that things could always get worse.
Sure, on the surface being saved from certain death seemed all well and good. But what about when that saving came at the hands of the God of Mischief, a deity whose sole purpose was to cause chaos? And what if, after being saved, a man—along with those poor fools unlucky enough to be his companions—found himself facing assassins, a strange magical hermit, a demonic cult, and a very demonic demon?
If there are lessons to be learned, then they are the same lessons the world had been trying to teach Dannen since his birth. Insane mages make for poor friends, the only thing better than being a hero is being alive, and the most important lesson . . .
I enjoy all the characters and I have no problem seeing the egotistical, evil hearted ones who were going after the group of antiheroes get what they deserve. And finding out the bears identity was great.
It was a good series and I appreciate the closure before starting a new adventure.
Honestly made me laugh through all 4 books, sitting there reading and then laughing out loud before I can stop it. I'd recommend to anyone who likes fantasy and a laugh. Fair play to u Mr peppers you kept me coming back, can't wait for the next one!
The rag-tag band of heroes, led by Dannen are continuing their quest to the bitter end, and judging by the opening, that might come sooner than expected. The story is sometimes humorous, sometimes exciting, and occasionally downright frightening this third instalment had me chuckling, and at the same time, my heart was in my mouth at the possibilities unfolding.
The characters are well written and have their own little peculiarities to like or dislike in equal quantities. I particularly like the interactions between Fedder and Dannen. How Dannen manages to keep his cool is something to witness. The story moves along at a good pace making the book easy to read. As a finale, it is excellent. I highly recommend this book and the complete series.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I have liked the other books by this author, and this one has some things to like. Unfortunately, this one desperately needed an editor. Sentences that don't make sense, random words, spelling, grammar. Oh, and someone needed to tell the author that one section went on way too long and should have been shortened, nearly gave up at one point there--too much perversion to use the author's own word. A courageous editor could have made this book shine. Don't think I will read any more by this author.
As Dannen, Fedder, Mariana and Tesler prepare to be executed a very strange thing happens. The executioner disappears while two of the guards are killed. With a chance to get away they run far and fast as they are pursued by guards and citizens. They are aided in their escape by a showman. They are still on the trail of the shepherd boy and encounter many more creatures and enemies they pursue their goal. As always this is great fun with non stop action.
I have enjoyed the series and hope that it continues I will read the next book on day one!! The characters are funny and likable and I have enjoyed following along with them in their adventures!! Do yourself a favor and read the series you will be wanting more!
This second duology for the Antiheroes has a decent climax with fun battles, but most of the way through doesn't have the desperation, insanity, and quirky humor I enjoyed in the first two books. So if you are totally in love with the character, setting, and writing style go for it, but don't expect the same level of enjoyment. Somewhat like eating day old bread vs fresh.
Brings to a conclusion the quest beginning in "Probably it's Prophecy". Although retaining the broad humour of the previous books, particularly with several humorous twists, the plot becomes much darker, almost turning homage into actual swords and sorcery epic fantasy.
This series keeps getting better with each installment. It has begun to fill out and take shape quite well. I’m excited for the next one. I thank Mr. Peppers for writing them.
I have really enjoyed this series so far and am looking forward to the next one being published. Some series run for too long but the anti heroes is the gift that keeps on giving. It makes me laugh, smile and has some really good characters.
I really liked the humor in this book. The person who changed to different forms was amusing and the attitude the swordsman had. Let us not forget the mage who had no manners. Suspenseful and humorous both.
Ok, maybe it's not as good as books 1 and 2, but really, compared with a typical Fantasy novel, it's still absolutely amazing. The story continues just as fun and fast-paced and the characters are as you know them.
I laughed a lot, I'm kinda sorry to see this end. I'm really hoping to see these characters again at one point. I'll miss them!
