Second Chances #3

My Infatuation with Isabella

Rate this book
Dylan and Isabella's story Part 2 ❤❤❤

Isabella Diaz is a cheat. Isabella Diaz turned out to be the treacherous snake I was warned about. Isabella Diaz ripped my heart out and wrecked my whole world. It took a while, but I somehow pushed past the pain she caused. I picked up the pieces, wrote her off as a bad decision, and moved on. So, imagine my surprise when I find myself at her mercy again, when the mere sound of her voice takes center stage and overshadows everything else in my life.

See, Isabella Diaz played me for a fool, but when the dusty cloud of deception finally settles, I see her for who she really is. The woman I love. The woman I hate. The woman I shouldn’t want…but I do.

Warning: This book contains triggers that may affect certain readers, such as mental illness and infertility. It may also affect readers who were victims of abuse and/ or violence. It contains strong language and sexual content and is not recommended for readers under 18 years of age or sensitive readers.

Other warnings: This book contains many flashbacks (for those of you who hate that kind of thing), so please pay attention to the dates. Just like the first one, it still contains (a lot of) crass sexual humor and too much cheese. Also, don't hate me for what happens in chapter 2/ 3.

Thank you so much to Jacqueline Francis for gifting me a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Guys, I couldn't put it down. If the first book was already a joyride, the second doesn't lack and even makes what worked well in the previous book even better. People who say sequels disappoint haven't met Jacqueline Francis. The two books compliment each other so well in terms of quality, entertainment and storytelling.

The book has a better pace at the start than the previous book, I've gotta admit.

This book was an amazing read, packed with feelings, specially because we get to know better the mysterious Dana, the person that can help shed some light to the past problems that still haunt the protagonists.

Bella basically became my fictional bff, the years made her age like fine wine and didn't wash away her fantastic sense of humor but sharpen it. The radio scene with Tommy had me rolling on the floor (although I've gotta say the next radio scenes became kinda boring for me since I felt they weren't as funny or relevant to the plot). I can say basically the same with Tommy.

I cared for Dana like my own sister, too. She wasn't a mere excuse to give Dylan some background, but a fantastic character that represents how bad can traumatic experiences affect you and still how you can recover from them and live a happy life.
I went from finding Peter and Scott infuriating to totally loving them. I would love to read a book about Peter, too.

But let's talk about the real deal that everyone here wants to know about: the romance...

It's one of the best second chance romances I've ever read, because of how real and how powerful it is, the emotions it gets from me. Their chemistry and connection is unique, impecable. They're more mature in this book, so they finally start tackling the issues and earning that healthy and happy relationship, a journey I wouldn't want any reader to miss!

Also, I can't miss the steam 😏. It's way better, with more sexual tension and detail than the previous book. It was delicious, so hot I thought my house would get on fire!

And yes, in this book we get to know the truth about the profecy of the Queen of Hearts...

The ending was incredibly crafted and magnificent, won't say more because spoilers but it's really worth it and what the characters needed 😌. That's the thing with Jacqueline, she writes with a force that sucks you into her astonishing words.

Thank you so much, Jacqueline Francis, for this wild and fantastic journey. I hope I get to read more books of yours in the future ♥️

TW about the book: slight mentions of substance abuse, slight descriptions about kidnapping, low level of violence, few mentions about abuse and death of a parent.

Trigger Warnings:

This is the third book in the second chances series, the first being It Just Had to Be You and the second being My Debacle with De Lorenzo. This is in continuation of the second book which is a duet about Isa and Dylan. And you know what? My friends said they didn’t wanna continue the series because Scott and Cat had a nice end and the last book is after they separate, but I was curious. I read the second book and I loved it but this? This book destroyed the couples I loved, it ruined the characters for me. Dylan went through a lot but he was so whiny and self-centered. I’m so upset, this book was a rage read. Literally, two chapters in, and I was fuming. This book has a lot of tropes I hate, it has time jumps and the arguments are repetitive.

Honestly just don’t read the second book, enjoy the first one and leave it there. If you wanna read this anyway, it’s about Isa and Dylan. They dated for a year in high school and separated. 9 years later they are forced to sit through anger management therapy because of something they did. They tell their story from the very beginning. Isa’s dad died and she was bullied, so she started sleeping around. The only guy she ever wanted isn’t interested in getting with her and that’s Dylan. Dylan likes Isa but wants someone who will stick around and love him, he hates hookups and that’s what Isa does. So he never sleeps with her even when she goads him.

Now for spoilers

Stay safe folks!

The final chapter in the story of Isabella and Dylan. Most of what happens between them is told in their anger therapy sessions. The reasons for their breakup, their reunions, the night of passion at the Royale hotel, Dylan's marriage... So many issues to discuss and clarify.
The biggest problem? Communication, something in which Dylan fails spectacularly and Isabella is still level 8-9 crazy. There are things that need special work and time to improve them.
The book has it all: romantic, passionate, hilarious, and heartbreaking moments. This couple was destined to be together according to what the fortune teller told them years ago (what a great moment 😂) but even so they have had to go through a lot and work hard to reach their HEA.

5 KING OF HEARTS STARS

I COULD NOT PUT THIS DAMN BOOK DOWN!!!

Shew... Where do I begin. So to start I must admit that when the author reached out to me to read this book in exchange for a review I was a tad skeptical. After reading the first book in the series "It Just Had To Be You" and seeing the type of male lead Scott was, I thought Dylan was going to be the same. Don't get me wrong I absolutely LOOOOVVVVEEEE Scott, but I've noticed that once an author starts with the popular alpha male type in a series then ALL the male characters in that series tend to be the EXACT same. Although, I didn't want to ruin my love for this authors work, I know that I've enjoyed all her previous books, so even if the characters are the same I'd probably still enjoy this one.... So I went into this book with that mindset and...

DAMN, this author never fails to amaze with the authenticity of her characters, because HOLY shit... DLYAN DE LORENZO

He is just a ball of cuteness, wrapped up in cheese, toppled with TAKE ME NOW I'M YOURS. Goodness, Dylan.

In my reviews, I usually give a breakdown of the book, but I don't want to that here because its a two part series and so much happens that I don't want to give anything away.

This book just has it all. I felt like I watched their entire relationship unfold as if it were a movie playing out in front of me. If you enjoyed "My Debacle With De Lorenzo" then you are going to LOVE this. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the growth of both Dylan and Isa, from where they were in the first book to how they turned out here. The angst, the suspense, the secrets, the chemistry, the humor and lets not forget the sex... HOT DAMN these two were made for each other, and yes I know its a book, but I fell so in love with them that they felt so real to me. As for Dylan's parents...

Their humor is savage, I admire how they are as a family, despite all that happened to them. They are just adorbs. I really enjoyed seeing more of Peter and Scott and getting to see a different side to that friendship. Isa... OMG guys, this chic is just an absolute badass, she's just so spunky and sassy and feisty and adventurous, I am totally girl crushing on her. I never thought I could love a family/ friendship dynamic the way I loved the Shepherds, but this series is honestly surprising me. I literally loved every single character in this book except for Fran...

I would rate this book 10 stars if I could. As always, with this author, it's not your typical romance. It's a beautiful story of two people who were destined to be with each other from the start, but childish insecurities and immaturity is what tore them a part in the first book and a roller coaster ride filled with adventures, amazing chemistry, cute romantic gestures and a few anger management sessions is what brings them back together.

Jacqueline, can you please stop doing this to me. First it was Tyler who I was utterly OBESSED with, then I fell in love with Kevin, then you introduce Scott who I fell head over heels for and now you give me Dylan... I feel like a cheating ho right now and I have a feeling that I am going to fall just as hard for Peter. I am waiting anxiously to read his book, please tell us that it will be released soon.

MIGHT INCLUDE MILD SPOILERS

This was a hella goud-a series 😁

Ok.. so.. I read "It just had to be you" back in April and I loved it. The story was raw and so emotional it dealt with many upsetting but realistic situations but the characters were perfect and a blast to read about and follow.
I was very happy to see that the second book was there and ready to read but then a reviewer online mentioned that it is part one of two books and I know it would have driven me mad waiting, more so if I got invested in the book so I put it aside and kept an eye out for the second to be released.

3 months roll by and one weekend whilst dealing with the symptoms of Covid Im ecstatic to see that part 2 is available on Kindle. Let's just say my next 24 hours were an emotional washing machine.

I loved Cat and Scott but I fell hard and fast for Dylan and Isabella.

I understood Dylan but I was frustrated and angry with him as well. The author did a fantastic job of putting you, the reader, in Isabella's shoes and seeing everything through her eyes. I mean we were just as much in the dark as her. The heartbreak, the angst, the comedy oh and let's not forget all that cheese 🧀 soooo good!
I related alot with Isabella and how she deals with emotional situations. I think that's why as much as I hate to do it I was on her side for the majority of both books.

Now I actually held my breath during that epilogue when I read that Scott and Cat never sorted things out. That did kind of break me but thankfully you saved me in the end and I am actually buzzing for the next book!!!

Also... Pete is getting his own book!!!
This. Is. Incredible.
I've hoped that this would be the case since he was introduced in book one. I feel there is so much to him that he can't just be a side character and needs his own story (and I'm one of those readers that is very happy to find out his could be a long book with LOTS of words)

My patience is going to be stretched but I will wait and look forward to more from this author about these amazing characters.
Thank you so much

Part 3 of the second chances series: My Infatuation with Isabella (the follow-up to Dylan and Isabella's story) is now live on Amazon and FREE on Kindle Unlimited: ONE CLICK LINK

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED writing this. Lots of fights, lots of tension, and lots of CHEESE. Dylan stole my heart in this one. Ugh! I am so nervous for this one I could puke. I've broken some romance rules in this one, but I hope you still enjoy it as much as I did!

This story. I had to know what happens, and it was me again until 01:30am to finish it. The intensity, the emotions and the absolute shock and reveal moments made me so happy. I felt each emotion, I was crying, laughing, and feeling all the questions raised in the first book being answered here. I could not trust Dylan after what he did to Isabella, and I was mad as hell at his character. I wanted to shout at Isabella to not go there and yet I was living each moment with her. I loved all the cheesy and dorky things. Tommy and Isabella are true best friends, and I loved their dynamic so much. Isabella has this free spirit and energy that grips you. You can’t but love her. Both characters have their moments, but the writer was able to win me over to team Dyldo… I mean Dylan… lol. I cannot wait to see the next story unfold and I would highly recommend this book if you want to go through x1000 emotions and feeling like it can change at any moment. Definitely a 5/5!

Amazing book! I could not put it down. The characters are both so real and relatable. They both have flaws and the manage together to address their past and their mistakes. I was a bit confused/annoyed in the beginning with the back and forth in time but in the end it all made so much sense. The book was so funny and steamy at the same time. I enjoyed reading it immensely. Highly recommended. I hope we will see them again on the next book for Scott and Catalina.

perfect—HIGHLY recommend

I LOOOOOOVED all three books in this series so far. I love ALL of the characters and I’m going to remain dead until the other two come out. It WASNT too long. I mean, maybe it was long but I loved it so much that it was just right. I was so excited to learn there’s going to be two more books, but waiting sucks. Well done, Jacqueline! xo

All I'm going to say is that Jacqueline Francis can spin an amazing story! You will be equally frustrated and in love with the characters at the same time.

Start with "It Just Had To Be You". I know these characters will stay with me for a VERY long time. I can't wait for the follow up books in this series!

So good

I loved their story it was hilarious 😂 and sad and there was just so much emotion i just felt it all. I was mad at Dylan and I was a little frustrated with Isabella. But then I was like i totally understand where she's coming from and I was like if he only contacted her and said hey I'm alive I'm just going through alot with my family then maybe they've wouldn't of ended. But I freaking loved her relationship with Tommy they had me in tears i couldn't stop laughing and Scott and Peter made me laugh too all the characters were just everything. These stories are Everything. I'm onto your other book. I can't wait to read Peter's and Scott and Cat story.

Dylan and Isabella continuetotell their story in flashbacks during therapy. This sequel could've been much shorter but I suppose the round about way it was spun made more impact. I got impatient reading about the day to day interactions which didn't seem to move the story forward but had subtle impact on the story as a whole.

Loved Dylan in the first story. He was much more mature and together in this story which made it kind of boring for me.

Everything in this sequel made sense and I wouldn't really change anything but it just didn't make a big impact on me. You'll definitely want to read it if you're invested in D and I's story. It's just a very long and not too exciting story.

I really love the fact that Jacqueline Francis gave us more of Isabella & Dylan since they're past was a train wreck, and yet, somehow they were made for each other. I will say that you cannot read it from here since the previous book (My Debacle with De Lorenzo) starts at the beginning of their complicated journey leading to this point in time, and honestly, you really need to read this series in order as Cat's story kicks it all off especially since we get glimpses of Cat's life as it is in the present. Now, this book set me off more than once as I just didn't agree with Dylan's actions this round as he was as flawed as flawed could get & Isabella actually grew up to change things up including respecting herself again. There are things that went on that really messed with me, and while I know people are flawed at all ages, still, I wish there could have been less of those flaws in this particular time frame but maybe that was needed in order for these two to actually face their issues with each other. I know I'm rating it all the stars, and there's a legit reason for it as I still couldn't put it down despite all the chaos that I could have done without so kudos to this author for putting me through the fire that I normally would turn away from! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I'm not sure how to rate this book....

Let me start by saying that I do love this author's writing. It sucks you in and doesn't let you out.
However, it's hard to rate the rest. While I would give the writing itself at least a 4*, the actual storyline would be a 2 or 3.
On one hand, Dylan is so disappointing. He makes bad decisions then whines about it and blames other people.
On the other hand, eventually, he starts to actually show rather than voice his feelings for Isabella. And finally groveling like he should.
The best part of this book is the journey, growth, and success of Isabella and Tommy. They share a bond and a friendship that surpasses all others.
While I enjoyed the progression and growth of Isabella and Dylan and their relationship, I feel it was overshadowed by the breakup of Cat and Scott. The main reason that most of us even read books 2 and 3 were because of them and it was devastating to read that they broke up.
I hope JF knows what she is doing......

This is the third book in this amazing series, and fate has destined for Dylan and Isabella to be soulmates, however, their journey is not an easy one. This story is a follow up of their story, and I must admit Dylan stole my heart. This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster, with tension, humor, witty banter, family, friendships, heartbreak, romance, second chances, chemistry, revelations, and steamy, which leads to an entertaining and addictive page turner.
Be aware of the trigger warning due to the sensitive content!
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

4.5 stars. this one didn’t get a full 5 bc him marrying Fran was idiotic. Also him going so long without telling her what was up with his sister dana. I get wanting to preserve his sister’s privacy but between that and losing the love of ur life, wtf?? So he made some very stupid decisions in this book that grated on my nerves. However, their banter and fun was still good like book 1 and im glad they got their HEA. Just wish they sat down and had a conversation and he told her everything earlier on. And that he regretted marrying fran more. Oh well. Still going on my fave shelf bc these 2 are one of my fav book couples ever.

My Infatuation with the Second Chances books

Dude. This book. I can’t even.
I love how with Jacqui’s writing, her books just seem to fall into place, the loose ends are tied nicely and the prep for follow up books leaves just the right amount of anticipation. This book was heavy but the build up from part 1 did a great job preparing you for the heaviness.

Isa and Dylan’s love story is one of the best and is a classic case of a fuck up from misunderstanding but once that’s out the way 💜💜💜💜💜.

To the author: I am so excited for the next book. Excuse me but 135k words is not too long and you did a great job with the plot here!

Keep up the great work!

“It’s just a million small things. And they accumulate to set an impossibly high standard that no other man can reach”.

I loved the banter and cheesy lines between these characters. My heart forever belongs to Cat and Scott, but Dylan and Isabella really got to me. The author writes top notch banter, and the king of hearts queen of spades reference reminded me of one of my favourite OneRepublic songs which was just an added bonus.

HEA for Dylan & Isabella!

You have to read these books in order to get the full effect. The character development is incredible.

Maybe some people think the books are too long. Maybe those people aren’t as committed to reading as I am, because I wouldn’t change any part of this journey.

I loved Isa and Dylan first book. This one - not so much. I hated Fran in the first book, I hated her more in this one. Dylan is complaing all the time.
Two stars for the radio scene - I didn't expect it, and for Scott - love him.
