Kevin J. Kennedy is a Scottish horror author known for his fast-paced storytelling, dark humor, and unforgettable characters. He is also the curator of the bestselling The Horror Collection and Classic Monsters anthology series.
When he’s not writing tales of blood-soaked chaos, Kevin champions indie horror, supports fellow authors, and dreams up new ways to keep readers sleeping with the lights on.
There are 18 stories weaved into the pages of this anthology and I am always happy when I see a new release by KJK Publishing as I know there are going to be some more horror authors to explore along with revisiting ones I have read from the past. Though I liked all the stories I have to say I pulled some favorites out of this collection and they are listed below.
Favorite stories from this collection are as follows with a tiny cryptic note:
It Walks About the Woods by Tom Deady: "Folklore legend could be real."
A Broken Man by Steve Stred: "Be careful what you trade away as there could be consequences."
Old Soul by R.J. Roles: "Experiencing death one too many times."
When Call the Deep by Mike Duke: "What really resides in the deep blue sea?"
The Old Man at the Gatehouse by Simon Clark: "Becoming a ghost is not what it is cracked up to be."
Soul Prism by Ruthann Jagge: "Glasses invention goes south."
Run Rabbit Run by Andrew Lennon: "If someone is dead make sure they are dead."
I Am the Storm by Michael Bray: "Desperate to see loved ones becomes a painful mind trip."
Taste for Adventure by Matthew A. Clarke: "Getting lost in the back country turns dire."
Beast by Kyle M. Scott: "Even furry beasts get to have some fun."
The Graveyard by Lee Mountford: "Becoming a ghost wouldn't be too bad or would it?"
Thoughts:
Another great collection filled with all kind of twisted nightmares from KJK Publishing! I probably say this every time I do a review for these books that KJK Publishing puts out and I will say it again - these books are great as I am able to get a taste of the authors that are gathered in each book and it makes me want to pursue their other work.
I have read many anthologies in my life, but interesting enough I almost own all of the collections put out by KJK Publishing as I really like and love all the authors that are intertwined in these books.
If you have not stepped into these anthologies then you need to go check them out as there are quite a few books now in the horror collection series - 12 to be exact. Giving this book four "Twisted Frightening" stars!
The Horror Collection: Nightmare Edition presented by KJK Publishing is the twelfth amazing and brutal collection in this series. Like all of the others, once I dove in, I couldn’t stop reading!
I freaking love these collections! Each time I see that a new one is coming out, I start getting antsy to get my hands on it!
This one is one of my top favorites of the bunch! The range goes from mildly creepy to full blown extreme horror, so there’s something here for every horror fan, as always!
A killer collection of tales that will haunt your nightmares! This is a collection that horror fans won’t want to miss!
Full disclosure: I was given a free copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating in any way. I also purchased a copy!
Nightmare Edition is the latest horror anthology in The Horror Collection series from KJK Publishing, and this one is intense, y’all.
These stories crawl under your skin and burrow into your brain. They have complex characters and storylines, and they range from suspenseful psychological horrors to brutal cryptid and zombie horrors, with supernatural and cosmic horror stories mixed in. This is a diverse collection with something for every horror appetite.
Among my favorites is the nail-biting, evocative story “It Walks About the Woods” by Tom Deady, the haunting Lovecraftian horror tale “When Calls the Deep” by Mike Duke, and the brutal extreme horror “Beast” by Kyle M. Scott. But truly, all these stories have incredible horrors to show you.
As one reader pointed out, there’s some real-life horror in the mix; this is not a gore fest. I say that is a good thing, even though some of it got to me—really got to me. That’s what good horror does, though, right? It makes you feel things, makes you uncomfortable. As I said, these stories are intense; they crawl under your skin and burrow into your brain. They make you think and make you feel. This isn’t gratuitous horror, but it is definitely recommended reading for horror fans.
Always enjoy these collections and this one was no different! Fab little collection of shorts as always, will be looking out for more or any I've missed so far x
fine but some of the vulgar language was misogynistic and unnecessary
Some of the stories were okay, even enjoyable, but if I had a pound for every time the word “tits” was used or women were described in vulgar, sexualised and misogynistic ways I’d have enough to buy the whole collection.
Most of the short stories are a fun read. A couple felt much longer than they were, but I enjoyed the collection. A couple of the authors I plan to check out properly.
