Magpie Cove #4

Dreams of Magpie Cove

Rate this book
The cove itself was small, but beautiful, filled with fine golden sand. Ellie had always heard that Cornwall was romantic, and now she could see why. There was something wild and magical about the turquoise blue sea and the grey-black cliffs that hinted at the shadows of caves under the tide line. Shading her eyes from the sun, Ellie wondered if it would be enough to make her forget what had brought her here…

Ellie McTavish ’s world turns upside down when a deadly diagnosis comes out of nowhere. Feeling adrift as she recovers from life-saving surgery at home, she impulsively bids on a vintage caravan, only to discover the next day that she’s won it. So she grabs her friend Fee and takes it on an impromptu road trip…well, that’s the plan, until it breaks down outside the tiny village of Magpie Cove in Cornwall.

Unexpectedly stranded, the two women don’t have much choice but to stay there until it’s fixed. At least the local mechanic, Mark , is distractingly handsome. Not that Ellie would ever act on her feelings – after the surgery she’s not sure she’ll ever feel beautiful again. If only she’d stop running into him everywhere in town…

As Ellie settles into life in the cove – even daring to swim in the icy sea with a group of local women each morning – she can feel herself slowly healing. But just as she begins to let herself grow closer to Mark, a midnight attack on her rented beach house once more puts Ellie’s fragile courage to the test. Sometimes the deepest scars are on the inside – will Magpie Cove be able to mend Ellie once and for all?

A perfect, feel-good page-turner about friendship, love and the power of starting over, set in gorgeous Cornwall. Perfect for fans of Shari Low, Veronica Henry and Heidi Swain.

Kennedy Kerr is the author of the Lost Maidens Loch witch-themed cozy mystery series. She is from a Scottish family and adores the magic and mystery of Scotland and all the Celtic lands: cairns, misty mountains, stone circles and misty lochs are her particular favourite things. She is the proud owner of a cuddly black cat called Twinkle, who evidently believes she is a princess.

Kennedy also loves cooking and baking all types of food, which is almost as much fun as eating it.

Ellie McTavish is really a very fortunate woman. She had received a terrible diagnosis of breast cancer and the fact that it was caught in time gave her a new lease on life. However, this does not mean that she is happy. In fact, is experiencing a huge measure of sadness and she needs to take time and while she is in the recovery phase of her surgery, she considers her life choices. She buys a vintage caravan camper, and she and her best friend Fee are about to undertake a nice long road trip. This road trip should go a long way when it comes to helping Ellie to receive the clarity that she needs.

Before they hardly get anywhere, the caravan breaks down. They are in the small village of Magpie Cove and they meet the local mechanic named Mark. He informs Ellie that due to the age of the caravan, and the small town in which he lives, repairs could take a while. She has a choice. Either rent another vehicle and continue with her road trip or stay in town until the caravan is fixed.

During this time, Ellie is dealing with some negative feelings, including that of her self image. She worries about how she will look to others after her surgery and this causes her to reflect on a childhood that was more than a bit painful. It is this baggage that stands between her and the evident attraction that both she and Mark share for one another. I loved that Kennedy Kerr threw a wrench in this will they/won’t they relationship between Ellie and Mark when her ex Roland comes into the picture.

What a remarkable journey of physical and emotional recovery! Ellie finds herself surrounded by wonderful people while in a beautiful locale. Her time of healing also helps her to reevaluate her career choices. I love that this is the fourth book in the thoroughly enjoyable Magpie Cove series. It is nice to see familiar faces and locations, making it very easy to imagine being there with them, experiencing their highs and lows and their joys and their sadness.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

This is a lovely series! Dreams of Magpie Cove is the fourth book in Kennedy Kerr's Magpie Cove series, and though characters from earlier books do appear, you can easily read this as a standalone.

Kennedy Kerr writes such beautiful characters, and it's a pleasure to get to know each of them. It's easy to identify with Ellie's journey in Dreams of Magpie Cove, it is empowering and heartwarming. 100% enjoyable.

The audio is beautifully performed by Katie Villa. Villa gets all the accents right, from the local Cornish to the posh Londoner, Brava!

an audiobook copy of Dreams of Magpie Cove was provided to me by Saga Egmont Audio, via NetGalley, for the purpose of my honest review, all opinions are my own

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Dreams Of Magpie Cove' by Kennedy Kerr.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Kennedy Kerr, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 12th August 2022.

This is the fourth book I have read by this author. It is also the fourth book in the 'Magpie Cove' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read the first two three in the series 'The House At Magpie Cove', 'Secrets of Magpie Cove' and 'Daughters Of Magpie Cove' which I would also highly recommend reading.

I was originally drawn to this book by its gorgeous eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'Perfect for fans of Shari Low, Veronica Henry and Heidi Swain.' I am a huge fan of Heidi Swain so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Kennedy and if this is half as good as 'The House At Magpie Cove', 'Secrets Of Magpie Cove' and 'Daughters Of Magpie Cove' it is sure to be a gorgeous read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture  that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 31 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Cornwall, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture. I have actually visited and had holidays in Cornwall on several occasions so am looking forward to seeing if I recognise anywhere that Kennedy has based the book on. I will also be going on holiday to Cornwall next year so I may even discover some extra places to visit!

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonist is Ellie McTavish. The benefits of third person perspective with  are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

'Dreams Of Magpie Cove' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Kennedy discusses cancer and domestic violence.

Aww yet another stunner from the extremely talented Kennedy!!! Well done Kennedy on yet another absolutely beautiful and perfect read!! This is the ideal beach read where you could sit there and turn around and just imagine  Magpie cove.

The book is extremely well written with beautiful descriptions that completely drew me in. I could feel the sun on my skin and the sea on my toes.  The synopsis and the cover match the storyline perfectly!!

The storyline itself completely swept me away. It is filled with love, friendship, romance and drama. It kept me turning the pages late at night. I really enjoyed having the insights into Ellie's life and her journey into the stunning Magpie Cove.  As previously mentioned the storyline contains the topics of cancer and domestic violence. Although these are hard topics to talk or read about Kennedy has weved them perfectly into this stunning storyline. It was also a beautiful tribute to Kennedy's mum who also had breast cancer.  Along with her own personal experience the fact that Kennedy has done her research absolutely shines through.  It is one of my pet hates when an author doesn't research the topics of their books and they are then littered with unnecessary mistakes. I am also glad that Kennedy included the topic of domestic violence as it is such an important subject to talk about and so important thay anyone going through it themselves seeks help. I always love venturing into Magpie Cove. In a way I have become so invested in this series that it actually feels like going on a holiday and I absolutely dread coming to the end where I have to unpack my suitcase and get back to reality. I don't want to say much more about the book as I don't want to give it away but I love the fact that Kennedy doesn't just write the one storyline but there are always several going on and just the right amount so you don't get confused. It was an absolutely compelling and addictive heartlifting read that kept me turning the pages until late at night. The ending was absolutely perfect as always with Kennedy and this stunning series.  This book would make a beautiful movie!! I really do love this series and I cannot wait to jump into the next book and visit the beautiful Magpie Cove again.

Do not turn a single page of this book until you have cleared your schedules and when you do get ready to go on a stunning holiday you will not want to leave!!

Although this is the fourth book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

I am completely invested in the characters who were all absolutely fantastic with their own individual personalities and quirks. They have all feel like friends now that I have got to know so many of them so well and I love visiting them to see what they have been up to since the last time I met them. Whenever I finish any of Kennedy's books I feel like I am leaving them and always feel a bit sad about it but am happy in the knowledge that Kennedy is hopefully writing her next book and bringing them alive as I write this (hint hint Kennedy 😉). I really enjoyed learning some Cornish slang and loved that Kennedy explained some words.  I loved watching how Ellie developed and went from strength to strength. My heart went out to her as it does to anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer.  My partner lost his mum to it Christmas Eve a few years ago and it is absolutely heartbreaking watching anyone going through any stage of it.  I will say though that although I loved this book and the storyline I wasn't a huge fan of her.  I did feel for her, but she did annoy me on several occasions especially when it came to Mark and things thay she was doing. I loved Mark who I thought was quite sweet, romantic and just a great guy. My heart really went out to him in several occasions. I couldn't stand Rowland and his comment towards the end made me shout and swear!!! What a complete and utter ar$3h0I3!!!! I loved meeting some old faces again and getting to know new ones. This is one of those series which could go on and on and I wouldn't get bored. Here's to meeting them all again along with the next new faces of Magpie Cove!!

Congratulations Kennedy on another gorgeous success!!! Looking forward to my next holiday to Magpie Cove!!! This is exactly why you are one of my favourite authors!! If you have never read any books in this series pick one up today, you won't regret it and you are definitely missing out if you don't!!

Overall this is a perfect,  stunning beach read with a great gang of characters and important topics! Pick this up and kept swept away at Magpie Cove.

Genres covered in this novel include Women's Romance Fiction,  Women's Contemporary Fiction, Romance Novel, Domestic Fiction, Contemporary Romance,  Women's Literary Fiction and Holiday Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of as well as fans of Shari Low, Veronica Henry, Heidi Swain, Nicholas Sparks and any lovers of a book that you can float away with at the beach!!!

237 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle or free on kindle unlimited (at time of review) via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Ellie McTavish unexpectedly receives a horrible diagnosis, and her only option for surviving is surgery. The risky surgery is a success and she is recovering at home. She bids on a vintage 80’s airstream motorhome and to her surprise she wins. Ellie convinces her best friend Fiona to go on a road trip to pick up her winnings. On the way there, they break down, and are stranded just outside the picturesque village of Magpie Cove in Cornwall. They have no choice but to wait for the local mechanic Mark to fix their vehicle so they can be on their way. As Ellie spends time in Magpie Cove she falls in love with the people that live there and everything about Cornwall. It is exactly the place she needed to be to recover physically and emotionally and to realize she has her whole beautiful life still ahead of her.

This gorgeous, uplifting and delightful story is an absolute must read. It is filled with wonderful characters and the sights and sounds of Cornwall will unfold in your mind’s eye. I laughed, I cried, I was heartbroken and inspired. This was such a wonderful escape to Cornwall and at a much needed time. I could feel the sun on my face, the sand in my toes and the wind in my hair. I could hear the waves lapping against the beach. I thoroughly enjoyed returning to Magpie Cove, and I found this book to be unputdownable. This author does such a wonderful job describing Magpie Cove as such an amazing and beautiful place, you will want to pack up and move today. This phenomenal story is one that is not to be passed up by anyone, and will have you dreaming of Magpie Cove. I love, love, love this series and I highly recommend it.

Thank you Kennedy Kerr for such a wonderful addition to this amazing series. This was such a wonderful escape. I loved the storyline and I highly recommend it.

I absolutely loved this! My normal preference is psychological thrillers but I decided on a change. So glad I did. I loved everything about this book. Ellie and Fee are great central characters. The residents of Magpie Cove an interesting bunch, all with their own back stories which taper nicely into the plot. Ellie and Mark's romance - a will they/won 't they teaser which weaves its way through the story. When ex-work colleague Rowland turned up and started turning on the charm, it got even more interesting.

This city girl ends up in the country and decides to stay formula has been used before, but Kennedy Kerr somehow finds a fresh way of telling the story. It's a lovely warm and uplifting read, whether you are curled up at home, relaxing in the garden, or stretched out under a beach umbrella. A well deserved five star read.

The title and stunning cover are what drew my attention to Dreams of Magpie Cove by Kennedy Kerr. Prior to reading this book I had never heard of the author and didn’t realise that this was the fourth in the Magpie Cove series. Usually, I wouldn’t ever start a series when it has been well established but it was only after I had read a few chapters that I realised there were more books. But this definitely can be read as a standalone and not being familiar with the series didn’t detract at all from my understanding or enjoyment of this lovely book. Also, the main character Ellie is dealing with an awful lot and given the nature of what she is going through I’m not sure would I have read the book as I think it would have brought up too many uncomfortable memories for me hitting close to home. Having said all that I really would have missed out on a little gem of a summer read had I gone along with how I felt as outlined above. This is a great, heart-warming and life affirming read. It’s a quick read and perfect to curl up with for a few hours in the summer sunshine.

After a drunken purchase late one night Ellie McTavish finds herself the owner of a Silverstream motor home which she has christened Marilyn. Living in London and working as a lawyer she certainly has no need for the motorhome and her purchase is totally out of character for her. But Ellie has been through the mill recently and she is tired and vulnerable. Her body has finally said no - you need to slow down and don’t waste another second of what life has to offer. Along with her graphic designer friend Fiona she has decided to take a road trip travelling through Cornwall. But disaster strikes when the pair breakdown. Rescue comes in the form of the handsome, easy on the eye but guarded Mark. He tows them to his garage but it will be several weeks before the parts can be found and the motorhome fixed. The girls don’t know what to do. Magpie Cove where they find themselves is a quaint coastal village and it seems like not much goes on there but a decision is made and the girls rent a beach house owned by Mara whilst they wait for the repairs to be carried out. Maybe this is a sign that Ellie really needs to stop and take a complete break and give herself time to heal and to decide how she can move forward in her life?

Ellie is a person who is not great at processing her emotions or admitting to others that she is struggling and needs help. Fiona throughout the book was such a great help to her. She never pressured her but would give her a gentle nudge every now and again when she felt that Ellie needed to get herself out there a little more. They had such a perfect friendship and you just knew that if Fiona was in the same situation Ellie would be just as supportive and caring. They balanced each other perfectly. I totally understood why Ellie felt and acted the way she did and her whole situation was dealt with and explored in such a sensitive and tactful way. Yes, at times it was upsetting to read how she was struggling but yet at the same time Magpie Cove as she soon comes to learn is a special place. It welcomes you with open arms and has such an unique aura about it that you can’t fail but be taken in by the wonderful, beautiful setting and the memorable residents that live there.

Ellie puts herself under unnecessary pressure. I felt she wasn’t coming to terms with what had happened and just wanted to revert back to her old self which this was impossible to do. Her job was so high pressured and regimented, and she carried these aspects into her personal life. She shields herself away from romance as she is worried what men think of her and really this shouldn’t have been the case as she was a wonderful character with lots of god traits but the way she was feeling and thinking she just couldn’t see this. Ellie is going through such emotional turmoil that you wonder was it fate that the motorhome broken down where it did?

Magpie Cove has been known to help those in need and perhaps Ellie will find what she is seeking there. I loved when Ellie joined the ladies group who went wild swimming every week. The use of nature and the sea throughout the book was fantastic and acted as a balm to soothe Ellie’s troubled soul. She got out of her comfort zone and at the same time formed new friendships with the women who started to help her face her troubles head on. I loved how she got involved with the community and the storyline regarding the fundraising was excellent. As for Mark of course he had to feature too. He was a quiet soul who doesn’t reveal much about himself but god you could feel the connection between himself and Ellie and she very much found him easy on the eye but was she willing to fully open herself up and let potential love in? The storyline involving Mark’s sister and how Ellie helps her was great. It brought awareness to a very important issue and also towards the end brought some much needed drama and tension to the story and at the same time Ellie learns an awful lot about herself.

Dreams of Magpie Cove was a gorgeous read and one which I very much enjoyed. I loved trying to figure out who may have been the focus of the previous books and after checking I found that I was right. Just the right of information as to the previous stories was given and it wouldn’t stop me going back and reading them. This is an enjoyable and relaxing read and you’ll wish that Magpie Cove was real so you could visit and meet all the wonderful characters. It’s infused with warmth and human understanding and a perfect read for the summer months.

Elli's journey

I have loved reading this book series. Once you start you o want to stop. I got all 3 books in the series so i could read them all together. It has been a good journey reading about the different characters. They have all been so different but Ellie being an outsider was the best one for me. Her drunken purchase of an airstream moter home & the journey Ellie & Fee started on. Their road trip started well but then they broke down and were towed to a garage in Magpie Cove. A chance meeting of Marra on the beach led to them renting her beach house. They were loving their time there, Ellie joined the wild swimming club and thoroughly enjoyed it, Ellie had had a mastectomy just before they left and the road trip was to help her recover. The wild swimming help strengthen her muscles and bring feeling back into her arm & chest. The friends she made including mechanic Mark who was repairing & looking after Marilyn her moterhome. Ellie had spent a lot of time with mark baking & cooking. They went on a date & Mark & Ellie kissed , & then she panicked & pulled away as she wasn't ready for it yet as she hadn't yet come to terms with her mastectomy. A lot happens in the following weeks including a fire at the beach house. Ellie & Fee end up in hospital with smoke inhalation for a few days. When they return to the village they are shocked at the damage at the beach house & the locals compassion for them. The owners of serendipity's cafe offer them their flat while the moter home is still being repaired. When Mark finishes it & Ellie asks for the final bill he hands it to her and says she can look at it later there is no hurry to pay it. Ellie looks at it straight away and it says zero to pay. Ellie said its not right as there was at least £1000 outstanding. He said you saved my sister from the fore & Darren so we are equal now. Ellie cant believe Marilyn is finished & how different it looks the dents have gone & its gleaming, the carpets and everything inside has been cleaned too. It looks almost new as Mark has added a few reclaimed accessories. Fee & Ellie move the motorhome to the beach road and park up for their last day. Ellie is on her own trying to get changed when there is a knock on the door & its Mark he comes in & one thing leads to another and they sleep together Ellie wakes & he's gone, gone to a breakdown & she doesn't see him before she goes back to london. You need to read the book to find out the full story & pray there is a follow up.

I was given the opportunity to read an advanced copy of the book "Dreams of Magpie Cove" by Kennedy Kerr and while the book was a little slow to start but once I got into the story I couldn’t put the book down.
The book is the story of Ellie McTavish and begins with a life changing event involving Ellie’s health. Ellie, a corporate lawyer in London, has to take a set back and recover after having a mastectomy. With the help of her friend Fee and a vintage motorhome named Marilyn, the two friends set off on a journey from London, driving through the countryside of England as Ellie recovers.
The trip was only meant to last a few weeks, a casual road trip around England, exploring and eating the local fare. But Marilyn has other plans and the friends find themselves stranded in the small town of Magpie for several weeks while the motor home is repaired.
Able to stay in a small beach house down from the village proper Ellie continues to recover with the help of Fee. They meet a small group of amazing women on the beach as they take their morning swim in the ocean and a friendship blossoms. Soon the pair becomes part of the community, joining the morning swimming group and socializing and even offering support to the locals.
However Ellie has more to deal with than just recovering from her surgery than just the pain; she must also face the troubles regarding her health and her personal struggles with her physical appearance now that she has lost a breast. On top of that she has attracted the attention of two men; Mark, the local mechanic fixing the motor home, and Rowland, an old acquaintance from London who is also a lawyer.
The men couldn’t be anymore difference and despite her concern about her physical appearance Ellie spends time with each man. But as she spends time with each man, she learns more about herself and what she truly wants out of life. And finally finds her true happiness, along with a man that can truly accept her as she is.
The book shows the power and resilience of women, even when the most basic part of what defines a woman is taken, and how they can still stand up, find themselves and univariately find their truth happiness and contentment in life.
Please note: this book in the 4th in a series, though it was easy to read without having read the first 3. I will reading the rest of the series in the future.

Dreams of Magpie Cove
Kennedy Kerr
Ellie McTavish was diagnosed with breast cancer and to survive she had a mastectomy. As she goes under the surgeon tells her with breast reconstruction she will look as good as new. She survived the surgery. She is blessed that it was caught in time. She is a bit depressed and a lot unhappy. As she recovers at home taking pain pills and drinking at the same time, she bids on an auction for a vintage airstream camper. She and her friend Fee set out on a road trip through Cornwall. The camper, aka Marilyn, breaks down in the small town of Magpie Cove; Mark, the local mechanic, comes to their rescue. It will take a while to get the parts and repair the camper. Ellie and Fee decide to rent a cottage by the shore and stay in the town while the camper is being repaired.
Ellie finds herself pondering her life; her childhood was painful and caused her to care about how others see her. How will people look at her now that she has had a mastectomy? Each morning she see a group of women swimming, eventually she joins them. The salt water and friendship does her good and her body, mind and heart begin to heal. She comes to realize the true meaning of friendship and knows it is time to reevaluate her friends and her career. It is time to do what makes her happy.
This is a love story in more than one way. Ellie comes to love herself and the people of Magpie Cove, including Mark. Mark and Ellie have a sweet romance. There is a message in this book for most of us in this tale: get out of our comfort zone, form true friendships, help others when you can and allow others to help you and most importantly but honest with yourself.

This was a terrific book. I've enjoyed every book in this series and this one was delightful! I hope this series continues as I love the author's characters and settings. I want to read more about Magpie Cover and its inhabitants!

Thought provoking and romantic

Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC, this review is my personal, unbiased opinion.

At home recovering from surgery, in a moment of unheard-of spontaneity, Ellie McTavish buys a vintage Airstream motorhome from eBay. Needing time to recuperate from her work as a busy London based lawyer, Ellie and her friend Fee decide to take the motorhome on a trip to the West Country. Even driving the smallest model Airstream motorhome could cause chaos in the narrow, high banked Cornish roads, somehow Fee and Ellie manage without causing county-wide gridlock. Thank goodness for fiction.

When the vehicle breaks down, and while waiting for the motorhome to be repaired, they rent a house on the beach in Magpie Cove. Repairing a vintage vehicle isn't a quick and easy job. During the coming weeks, Ellie and Fee experience the good vibrations from Magpie Cove and start to consider changing their lifestyles.

I was expecting a whimsical story about someone improving how they currently live, moving to a new area and finding love. Whilst all this did happen (no spoiler – it's in the blurb) the book follows Ellie's slow recovering both physically and mentally from her serious operation.

This is a beautiful story, emotive and powerful, too,
Sharing how having cancer alters perspectives and what you do.
For Ellie she's alone after her surgery is done
When she bids on a vintage motorhome and finds that she's won!

With her friend, Fee, she sets off to explore
Until the vehicle breaks down and won't go any more
They're in Cornwall and taken to Magpie Cove where
They plan to stay whilst their vehicle undergoes repair.

Staying in the Beach house proves a great idea
As they're soon making new friends who are caring and dear.
The support of the women swimmers proves healing, too,
As they help each other in everything they do.

The community, setting and change in life, too
Help Ellie reconsider what she really wants to do.
There's even the possibility of romance
But only if she's brave enough to give it a chance.

A lovely read with friendship and relationships to the fore
Evaluating your choices and possible changes to explore.
How working together to support others in what they do,
Can help you help yourself even more, too!

This is a gorgeous, contemporary romance
That I highly recommend you give more than a chance!
For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house, autor and narrator for the opportuntiy to listen to a comlimentary copty of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.

I have read a couple of this author's books and have always enjoyed them. I was excited to have the opportunity to listen to a copy of this book and I so enjoyed it. Every evening, I sat and enjoyed a cup of tea and listedned to this book. I really enjoye the narrator's tone and cadence.

Ellie, having just undegone breast cancer surgery, finds herslef buying a classic motorhome on a whim and then her friend Fee suggests that they should go on a girls road trip while she is recovering. They start off on their adventure and are really enjoying themselves when Marilyn, the aptly named mototrhome, breaks down in the little seaside village of Magpie Cove. When Mark comes to her rescue, she is instantly drawn to him, but shies away becasue of her mastectomy. This was such an uplifting story of coming to terms with yourself and loving yourself, of friendship and love.

The story
Ellie’s recovering from her mastectomy after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In a wild moment one evening she bids successfully for a 80’s vintage airstream motor home. Now she and her friend Fiona are traveling down to Cornwall when “Marilyn” breaks down. Thankfully handsome mechanic Mark is able to help them fix her, but that means the road trip is off and replaced with a few weeks getting to know the locals in Magpie Cove.

My thoughts
This is the fourth book in Kennedy Kerr’s Magpie Cove series, and it deals with no only emotional peace but also physical healing. Ellie is questioning her life, her friends and her place in the world during her stay in Magpie Cove, a place and amongst people that accept and show true caring. It’s an easy read, set in a charming Cornish seaside village but there also real life issues and danger that lurks beneath the surface.

I read an eARC copy courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher.

I absolutely loved this beautiful heartwarming tale that is about starting over, love and friendship. It’s picturesque sea side setting in Cornwall is magical and complements the story perfectly.

I loved the character of Ellie who the story is centred around as she recovers from breast cancer. Kerr brings a realistic account of a survivor of this hideous disease, as well as the impact this has on a woman’s sense of self.

Captivating in every way, Kerr has done such a wonderful job with this book and even had me shedding a tear or two. Beautifully written with a cast of characters (bar one..) that you feel you also have a friendship with by the end, this book was an absolute joy to read and I look forward to reading more from the talented Kennedy Kerr.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oh how I wish I was in Cornwall! Kennedy Kerry's descriptions are so glorious, you really do wish you were there! In Dreams of Magpie Cove, Ellie is taking time away from her stressful, high powered job in a corporate law firm to recover from a mastectomy, with her friend Fee. Their plan was to tour Cornwall in Marilyn, Ellie's vintage motorhome, when it broke down just outside Magpie Cove. Lovely book. Highly recommended

Sometimes I need a break from the dark crime novels I usually listen to and this book fitted the bill this time. I loved everything about this story of a woman recovering from breast cancer who buys a vintage motorhome and goes on a road trip to Cornwall with a friend.

The book is filled with wonderful characters (I loved the group of wild swimmers) and the descriptions of Magpie Cove itself made me want to pack my bags and go there immediately! Although this book is about romance and friendship it does touch on domestic violence, which might be a trigger for some listeners.

I didn't realise, until I came to write this review that this is the fourth book in the Magpie Cove series. It does work perfectly well as a standalone, but I will now be buying the first three in the series.

Katie Villa did a great job narrating the book.

Ellie is recovering from a mastectomy, following breast cancer. On impulse she bids and wins a vintage motorhome. She and her best friend embark on a road trip only for the campervan to break down outside Magpie Cove in Cornwall. With no option but to stay put, Ellie has time to reflect on her life to date and what she wants for her future.
This is a lovely feel good novel that focuses strongly on the power of female friendships.

Breast cancer survivors' families and friends read this

The story is lovely, perhaps a little predictable, but very enjoyable. The descriptions of all things Cornish are wonderful. Most of all, though, I found the description of the feelings and self-image of the protagonist, following her mastectomy, completely correct and appropriate. I wish I could read those sections aloud to those who matter to me.

What an uplifting novel! I have not read books by this author before but I will be starting now.

I loved the adventure Ellie and Fee end up on. Starting with the air stream and then switching to magpie cove. It enjoyed getting to know all the characters and the pages flew by.

5 stars

This book is so good that I read it twice. Kennedy Kerr is a outstanding musician with the written word. Her books draw you in from the beginning chapter and keep you glued to them until the end. They are full of emotional characters that protect their own. Family, old friends and new friends work together in this close knit community.
I highly recommend this book.

This was a delightful audiobook. When an illness, combined with an impulse purchase, land Ellie in Magpie Cove for an unexpected long-term stay, she connects with the local townspeople. A charming book that left me wanting more.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Nicely written with some heartfelt observations about coping and living with mastectomy. Bit of a drippy hero! Did like the ladies who Wild swim though. Down to earth. I did feel the author missed a trick with the lack of description of other people and their inter-actions though. Left me feeling curiously unsatisfied.

Ellie is stranded in Magpie Cove with her best friend after her vintage caravan broke just outside of town. Can it be her second chance in life to find love, happiness, friendship a place to be herself after her mastectomy? Sweet. The audiobook is great

Another moving storey by Kennedy Kerr

Another heart touching book from Kennedy Kerr. Stranded in Cornwall Ellie finds friendship and love through which she regains confidence in herself whilst learning that there are many people who hide away their problems and heartaches.
