That's right, the best way to get Bubba out of his grief is to get his giant carcass back to work, so that's what he's doing as he dives headfirst into the swamps of SC, but as usual, he finds more than he bargained for when he doesn't just find the Lizard Man, but a whole Lizard Family, and they're the ones needing rescued!

Swing Low is the first installment in Bubba the Monster Hunter Season Six.

LOVED this take on lizard people. The depictions of the personalities of various cryptids is part of the joyful irreverence of the Bubba the Monster Hunter series by John G. Hartness, as series about a big redneck man who fights monsters and demons. They're known for their humor and unapologetic glee. The fight scenes are always creative, and the interactions between characters make for witty dialogue that will probably make you snort-laugh while you read.

This particular story takes place after some crossovers with one of Hartness's other series: the Quincy Harker. So, there's a lot of reference to things that happened in those books as well as past books in this series. Since I've only poked around in both of these series, there was a lot I didn't fully get, but am now curious about, so a bunch of books just got bumped further up my TBR.

(Since I also read a lot of other books by Falstaff Books, I enjoyed the references to Morgan Brice . Made me feel like an insider. )

Bubba is back in business; helps to know upper management.

Finally sent on a mission by the government which will (maybe ... hopefully ... fingers-crossed and the creek don't rise) be enough to catch him up on his bar bills, Bubba gets to hunt down one of his favorite celebrity cryptoids - the Lizard Man of South Carolina!

At turns funny to hilarious, with quick switches to the hole in the team and in us-fandom-hearts by the loss of Uncle Father Joe, this book will keep you in stitches and tears. A masterpiece capturing the essence of the long-time series with a return to its roots, without forgetting everything that happened to get to where we are today.

Also will work fine for first-time readers.

After losing Uncle Father Joe, both Bubba and Skeeter are not coping well, they need a case to distract them. Enter the legendary Lizard man, who seems to be causing troubles in the swamp lands. As usual, John delivers another good story, around great characters.

I have missed Bubba. He is always such a fun character. I do feel sorry for Bubba lovers that don’t also read Harker. Having Father Joe die in a Harker book was weird. Cross-overs are great, but I think major events like deaths should happen within books from the character’s own series. This book had Bubba still coming to grips with Joe’s death. Skeeter was having an even harder time. (That was one of the few quibbles I have with this story-not enough Skeeter!) It is a good thing that Amy sends Bubba down to South Carolina to look for a lizard man that is causing some trouble. Maybe getting back to work will help Bubba heal.
