Court Legacy #2

Savage Little Lies

Rate this book
Tiny.
Twisted.
Secrets.

The news about what happened to Dorian’s uncle rocks the town. Especially when a private school’s educator turns up dead. The focus surrounding the events that occurred that night shifts, and no one knows that more than the Legacy boys’ dark prince. Dorian’s looking for answers in the hours following the harrowing truths revealed in that video. We both are, and where we each end up finding them surprises no one more than me.

Rotten.
Little.
Lies.

When what’s lie and what’s truth suddenly appears indistinguishable, I find myself in a chillingly familiar place. One where the dark prince and I discover ourselves on opposite sides of the battle line. We once blurred that line, and he trusted me.

But can I trust him?

Warning: Savage Little Lies is a dark high school romance that contains dubious content and situations some may find triggering. It's recommended for readers 18+ and is the second book in an all new series by Eden O'Neill titled Court Legacy. Savage Little Lies is not a standalone and does end in a cliff hanger.

Author's Note: Court Legacy is a spin-off series about the children of characters featured in Eden O'Neill's Court High and Court University series. It's not necessary to read the previously released series in order to enjoy Court Legacy. This is a new series that can be read completely on its own.

+ dark bully romance, check tw’s

rarely does a sequel top the initial book, but wow, this was incredible.

okay let’s start with dorian & sloane. i do believe that their separation in the first bit of the book was necessary for their individual growth, but when dorian came back?? AND CHASED SLOANE?? not only did he write her letters and admit his feelings PUBLICLY, but he wore dresses ??? DORIAN PRINZE, u are remarkable.

when it comes to bully romance, it’s incredibly difficult, in my opinion, to create a well developed romance, where it’s both somewhat realistic to the plot but also benefits both characters, and eden does it PERFECTLY.

“she maddened me, drove me crazy, and her sassy-ass mouth only made me want her more”

“i wanted her. i wanted her so fucking bad i couldn’t even think straight,”

genuinely i didn’t think dorian could be any hotter, but this line…”snooping on me, little fighter? why you always so bad” LEFT ME IN SHAMBLES.

“i hate that i need you because hating you would be easier, smarter than loving you”

now. THE PLOT TWIST. not to show off or anything, but i called it from the FIRST BOOK. eden dropped enough hints for one to notice if they’re really paying attention but not enough for it to be obvious, & that’s the perfect way to do it! not only that, but the first half of the book was incredibly necessary because it allowed a certain relationship to build up!

now…that ending? despite me predicting the plot twist, i did not picture it to be LIKE THAT?!?!!?! i am not running, i am sprinting, driving, racing to the next book.

* side note…if i’m not mistaken,, i believe we got some foreshadowing as to who’s bow’s love interest 👀👀👀

Sloane and Dorian's story continues... this installment was a little boring and predictable yet there were some nice twists. I'm going to read the last book in series because I really want to know what happens in the end.

"Savage Little Lies" continues the story of Sloane, Dorian and the Legacy clan.

Starting off from the cliffhanger of last book, this one is filled with secrets, mistrust and deception. The crux of the story wasn't the romance between Sloane and Dorian- as a matter of fact I found her too forgiving and Dorian a suspicious ahole who always made impulsive decisions (and wasnt present for the first half of the book). It is the relationship between Sloane and Ares, the buried pain of the past and even though the reveal was predictable- I enjoyed every delicious moment of it.
Im mad about the cliffhanger but genuinely cannot wait for book three. I started this author today, but two books in IM OBSESSED!

Ends on a CLIFFHANGER! Book #3, "Tiny Dark Deeds" will be released in July 2021..Being left on this cliffhanger is killing me. I am definitely more invested in the plot than the relationship.

The romance in book #2 is minimal. The cause of the falling out between Dorian and Sloane in the beginning was meh. This assumption was based entirely on COINCIDENCE and the misunderstanding could have been cleared up with communication. But no, Dorian instead disappears off to some cabin to stew and the two don't reunite and make up until the ~60% mark.

Instead, this story focused more on a blooming friendship between Ares and Sloane. I did enjoy their interaction and could tell what the author was trying to lead us to theorize. The latter half of the book was more action packed.

One small pet peeve of mine was the constant description of how bulky and giant these male characters are. There was so much emphasis over their large frame that I started picturing these characters as stocky cartoon characters.

I'm expecting book #3 to come with a lot of revelations and twists so I am looking forward to it.

This series really picks up in this book! I had my suspicions about the plot twist but it wasn’t glaringly obvious unless you were intentionally searching for hints. Excited to see where this storyline goes!

Welp, I’m officially trash for Eden O’Neill.

Savage Little Lies is book two in the Court Legacy series and was completely unputdownable for me. Seriously, this book consumed me and even days later, I can’t stop thinking about it.

Compared to book one, this was definitely more of a story of friendship vs romance and I absolutely loved that. I adored the route that Eden took and was SO glad that we got to see more of a certain character 😉

But don’t worry, there is still plenty of romance in this book as well 🔥 It’s definitely not as dark as in Dirty Wicked Prince, but dare I say, I loved the romance EVEN MORE in this book.

Dorian Prinze, you officially have my heart 🥰

Lastly, can we talk about Eden’s plot twists!? She is SO good at tying together little details and I am constantly blown away by her endings 🤯 Seriously, she loves to leave us on a good cliffhanger, but I’m not even mad about it.

Overall, this book was everything I want in a new adult romance — it’s sexy, it’s angsty, it’s dramatic — and I can’t recommend it enough!

It'sbeen84years.gif

I absolutely refused to DNF this book when I was so close to finishing, but I also couldn't bring myself to finish as the adrenaline that fueled my voracious absorption of the first book disappeared whilst reading this one.

Thus, I've been letting it take up space on my currently reading shelf for months, taunting me every time I look. As you might have guessed I've decided that I refuse to allow this to happen any longer - mostly because my annoyance that my currently reading shelf doesn't actually reflect my current reads has finally won out over my aversion.

I immediately was struck by why I quit in the first place.

There is something inherently silly about a bunch of 17 year olds being considered so intimidating. Do many rich, white 17 year old boys in small towns hold an ungodly amount of power? Undoubtedly and unfortunately. But, the whole 'we'll ruin you if you come for our family' thing is not something I can take seriously from a bunch of entitled brats with anger issues and too much money to waste.

It's also something I have very little patience for now in general given how this kind of mindset has been specifically linked to a lot of the injustice going on in real life. It's exhausting having to argue for my rights as a person all the time. These obnoxious jerks throwing their weight around because they can and being rewarded for it completely lacks appeal to me based on where I am in my life right now. It's part of why I had to put a moratorium on mafia romances. The lack of respect for female personhood became too overwhelming.

In a better written book I could still have had a good time as I absolutely do still indulge in many of the tropes presented in this series on Ao3 so I'm not immune to the concepts, but I was not enjoying it here. The edge of realism ruined the escapism.

A major mistake, I feel, that directly resulted in my abandonment was that half of this book is Sloane and Dorian totally separated. Events trickle over from Book 1 and Dorian flees with his family. He accuses Sloane of being involved so he ghosts her. Everyone else in his little squad subsequently follows suit except for Wolf who has his doubts about her supposed involvement.

Wolf manipulates Sloane into joining him for his senior art project to get closer to her for spy purposes. In this time I completely lost interest in Sloane and Dorian because Sloane and Wolf literally were serving the actual enemies to lovers realness Sloane and Dorian were supposed to 100x better. Similar to when Dorian and Sloane first crossed paths, the two started off totally at odds on top of Wolf's inexplicable animosity towards her.

Over the course of this book, you read about two people who thought they couldn't be further apart slowly come to realize they're more alike then they first realized. The stilted conversations become private moments of shared vulnerability and then grudging respect for one another as people to genuine affinity. It was super endearing to witness.

Then whoops here comes Dorian who barely ever talks to her, is quick to freeze her out and seems to only want to own her on principle realizing he was an idiot, but by that point I'd already moved on. The momentum of their relationship was irreparably damaged. Having the contrast of Wolf who had a darkness to him, but was proving himself to be real partner material for the long haul ruined everything for me.

I knew Wolf wouldn't win because the second love interest never does and honestly he wasn’t really presented as an option. I only wished he was one. Still somehow O'Neill did worse than just not letting him be a viable choice.

If you, like me, started to ship them then you now are unintentionally guilty of shipping her with her twin brother as it's revealed in the last few pages that she was possibly kidnapped or something as a baby. So congratulations for accidentally being into incest I guess.

The sex scenes were okay. Dorian is gone for a long time as I said before so nothing happens for a long time. When he does appear it’s more of the same from book 1. It’s objectively well written, but I found it very by the numbers. Only a step above a fanfiction M after the great purge on the scale.

The second half of the book is dedicated to Dorian earning Sloane’s trust back. It’s sweet enough, but I hate when books just skip rapidly through time. It makes it difficult for me to get invested being told that so much effort is being exerted over time rather than it being proved in text. I need evidence.

There’s this whole secret plot going on with Sloane’s family and Dorian’s grandfather. It goes nowhere in this one so I imagine it will be completed in the next one since it’s a trilogy. We know he’s a horrible man due to Dorian’s chapters, however, in the story he doesn’t actually do anything. It’s all speculation in the present circumstances so I wasn’t ever nervous for the characters or anticipating the ending of the storyline.

Anyways, it wasn’t bad. It mostly wasn’t my cup of tea. I read romance on whims when I feel I can turn my brain off enough to enjoy it. My brain rebooted in the middle and I’m afraid I wasn’t able to keep that head empty energy to stick the landing. I do believe there are things that could be improved, however, I also acknowledge that romances like this are written and read for reasons outside normal standards for literature.. That’s not to say that romance is less than inherently or that romance cannot be phenomenal or that this book can't be considered quality in it's own right.

There are times when it’s still necessary to point out obvious flaws even in the case of comfort reads as some things are too egregious to let slide even if it’s in a fluff piece. My point is that this does its job fine and that’s all you can really ask for.

I'm writing a review tomorrow because right now I need to start the new book and SCREAMM×,&&

Argh okay what can I say! I stayed up until 5am reading this and I'm not even sorry! The book series is actually getting better as you go along in my opinion! Don't get me wrong Dorian is irritating a lot of the time when he is only thinking about himself but I like that we are slowly seeing another side to him! And the fact he actually played in dresses was hilarious!!!

But if I'm being honest I'm more invested in the found family and Ares and Sloane instead of the actual love plot!

Anyway I need to read the last book before I explode!!!! Arghhh so good! I'm so glad I decided to read it!

Solid continuation of the story in this second book. I was eating up the chemistry and dynamic between all the characters. Especially between Ares and Sloane.
Again, I expected the cliffy at the end and was ready to start book 3 right away.

The Path of Love for Dorian & Sloane is Destined to Be Dark

*This review contains Spoilers*

This book takes up right where the last book ended with Dorians arrest, and the fall out from Principle Mayberry demise.

However, the person that gets him out of jail comes in the form of the most unexpected person you could imagine.

Grandpa.
Yep! The very same Grandpa Dorian thought he had disposed of in the previous book.

As if THAT wasn’t enough of a shocker, it turns out old Gramps Montgomery/Prinze is the Guardian that has been taking care of Sloane & Bru,

Yes Sir, Callum Montgomery is actually Callum Prinze

This, for me, is the best part of this story when Dorian realises just how devious, underhanded, evil Grandpa Prinze aka Callum Montgomery is.

I LOVED the fact that he was deliberately causing trouble for the loved up Sloane, and Dorian. Good! Because seriously this loved up couple were starting to get on my nerves.

Once the rest of the Scooby gang Wolf, Thatcher and Ambrose, found out this intel,
They were breaking out the surveillance equipment and “putting detail” on the old man thinking they could out smart him.

So, while Dorian struggles to understand Sloane & his Gramps relationship, he puts her through the wringer, as he began to doubt her trust.

(I thought I would enjoy the mayhem Gramps was causing while it lasted, before some smarty pants in the group would ruin it & started to put two-and-two together)

The first half of this book also revolved around Sloane being made “persona non grata” with the Legacy kids, while they tried to figure out just how much she was involved with Callum.
Unfortunately this didn’t last long as she began to worm her way back into their good books.

This was when she starts sucking up to them one at at time.

First!

Wolf, with that whole cutesy Art project, thingy that he and Sloane bonded over.
The very same art project that came in very handy for Ares/Wolf to gather intel, because, in the words of Sloane, she “word vomited” a lot

Thus, the art conveniently allowed her to endear herself to Ares/Wolf, who went into bat for her against the other doubting Legacy Boys.

Wolf was the link she needed.

Then it was on to Bow and her mother Greer.

Now THIS particular bit with the oranges?
Falling from the grocery bag?
Was so corny, I literally groaned aloud.
This move by Sloane, was so obvious it was an insult.

These kinds of “set up” plot scenarios in stories annoy me, purely because I can see what the author is doing, kinda manipulating things.

But! The worst, most corny part of the plot came after the whole football, dress wearing business.

When Bru, was supposedly taking Sloane “to the Movies “ only to set her up, ending up at Windsor Prep football Stadium, where all the Legacy boys, plus Bow had their big coming together moment in order to push Sloane and Dorian back together…Double Groan.

I almost laughter out LOUD when we got the whole Locker room full of dresses and make-up for Sloane to go on her date with Dorian.
Just like a 90’s rom-com.

God, the whole thing was just so cringe.
It appears Bow is “that girl” in this story.

I hate when we get all the ‘good friends’ pitching in and pushing the main couple back together…..Aargh!

If this was me, and MY friends had manipulated me like this, I would be sooo peed off!

At this point I wanted Callum back ASAP! To start causing S… again.

AND seriously, could we HAVE anymore hints that Sloane is related in someway to Legacy!!! God! there was BIG FLASHING RED LIGHTS going off.

I also had, had just about enough of all ridiculous nicknames as well …’The Dark Prince’ and ‘Little Fighter’ or just “Little” these are IRRITATING to say the least.

I bet there are a lot of girls reading this that think ‘its so cute’….No it’s NOT!

The most over used phrase by Sloane would have to be ‘but I’d be lying if I said “
AND!
How many times does Sloane do something stupid and say “she doesn’t know why.” B.S.!

As we are drawn to the end of this instalment, you can smell the set up cliffhanger coming a mile off.
(Except for ME who guessed it right back in the previous book…mostly)

Let me just state this right here.

In the next book I want Sloane to COMPLETELY lose her S’
If we get the happy families reunion, this little black duck will not be happy.

I SO want evil Callum to come along and F up all their perfect privileged, lives, in their perfect Mc Mansions.

Surprise me…PLEASE!!! … I don’t want things to all fall into place with a happy little HEA.
To much stuff has happened for this couple (or as I like to call them December & Royal 2.0…because c’mon they are basically the same couple)

At least let there still be tension between some characters still.
Not everyone is on the happy Dorian Sloane train
*** Because, call me strange, but I liked the Evil Callum character the best.

I knew there was a third book in the works. That's why that cliffhanger wasn't so unexpected. That twist came out of nowhere. Well there's was some foreshadowing with the references to Noa's resemblance to someone in the Legacy. I expected the big mystery to surround grandpa Prinze/Montgomery....well I guess it still could. But the shocker with the identity of the kidnapper and the family dynamics now....Can't wait to see what happens next.

Dorian- sexy as always. So glad EO kept up the angst and sexual tension for most of the book. Disappointed that he seemed to be turning into the ill-fated pussycat after falling in love. Let's hope he retains some of his alphaholiness and doesn't get his mancard revoked in book 3.

Noa - was loveable and relatable. Not a girly girl. Stoic, brave and levelheaded without being a bitch. I wasn't a big fan of the Sloane alias. It sounded totally awkward that even her brother called her by his own surname?!? I hope there's a good reason and not complete randomness which would be really annoying.

Looking forward to part 3!

As with the first book this took me quite a bit to get into the story line but I still enjoyed it.

Hmm.... where to start. For my cons on this book I'd have to stay that I didn't really feel like the drama between Dorian and Noa had to happen honestly. I get their perspectives but I felt like it was a little unnecessary and a slight miscommunication that could have been easily resolved between them (it just one of those things that irks me in books lol) However, after finishing the story it makes better sense in why it had to happen that way in order for Noa and Wolf to interact in a more personal way. I must say though that Dorian's grovel was pretty epic and I was totally here for it. All in all, I think I was kind of just expecting the story to take a different turn at least where Dorian and Noa are concerned.

On another note, I do have to say that this author is amazing in writing her cliffhangers to suck you right back in. I'm honestly really excited to read book 3 and just what kind of craziness will happen next especially with that reveal!

I was under the impression that each book would focus on different boys, and boy was I wrong. Why do Sloane and Dorian need so many books to tell their lame ass story? It's too much honestly, no wonder book one ended on a cliff-hanger. It would have been better if we got Wolf's story and the others or something but I can't deal with so much angst.

I love this series! Book 2 didn’t disappoint. I have two words: Dorian. Prinze.

I loved watching the relationship develop between Ares and Sloan. I loved seeing Dorian grovel after he came to his fkn senses. And the ending was insane, though there were so many clues leading to that so I wasn’t too surprised.

Chapter Thirty. This was the best. The whole thing. I literally FELT everything Dorian was saying/thinking. It was amazingly written. Amazing.

So there were a couple of things that did bother me with this book. First (and mostly), at the beginning of the book Sloan was like a totally different person. She was not the strong-willed, sassy, suspicious character we saw in book 1. She was weak and naive and it made me want to scream! And then there are all the secrets these KIDS are keeping and trying to handle. Like wth? I know, I know it’s part of the story and written that way purposely but if they would just communicate and not keep things to themselves to “keep others safe” they wouldn’t be in half the mess they are! Arghhh! Lol. Every time another situation came up I was “ahhh naww...here we go again’” 😂

Great series!! Can’t wait for book 3!!

Eden O Neil has been added to my auto read list!!!

Romance books don't always get such amazing plot twists.
This title is probably the most appropriate of any book this year, and although you think you have characters all figured out Eden O'NEIL sets off another bomb.
Without giving too much away..let's talk characters
I feel like I am in a script of 90210 ..because the drama!!!! I really hate miscommunication tropes and Dorian should have spilled the tea and called out his Grandfather right in chapter one of this book. It would have saved TIME for he and Noa. And Ares/Wolf shouldn't have kept what HE knew from Dorian..or maybe had more of a conversation with Noa about her life. .
Everyone is omitting the truth...and this brutal stack of cards is going to fall down and shatter Noa in book 3. Whew..I am binging this seriesand hate to have to sleep! I know I will be going back to read the original series with the parents...
I love these characters...I just hate that it has spiraled this far ..Will Noa trust any of them after this or will she just walk away. The suspense is killing me!
I hope we get stories for Wells and Thatcher !

😲 Mind blowing!!!!! A must read...

Once again, our brilliant author left me desperate for more with my jaw on the floor!!! My heart is STILL racing from all the ups and downs, and insane reveals! If you've not read book one yet, do so NOW or you'll be lost as this isnt a standalone read. While not necessary to have read the previous COURT HIGH and COURT UNIVERSITY series, it will only only enhance the experience as its a look into how our main characters parents met, and everything they all went through.

This book has truly complex character development and world building. You will definitely want to smack some people upside their heads at times, and cheer others on. Not all is revealed in this book, and there are certainly one or two mysteries remaining....however you will quickly get invested with the return of a big bad and all that he entails. I literally just finished this delicious read and already am jonesing for book three! Argh!!!!

Ohmyfreakinggosh!!!!!!!

As I read this book I just had moments I wanted to cry for Sloane and I won't lie I did tear up.
I wanted so bad to jump into the book and just punch Dorian and his whole Court Crew for how they were treating Sloane.
See the progression of their relationship I was cheering like yay Sloane but the back and forth was a killer.
The suspense in this book just kept me on my toes. Kept me wondering what's gonna happen next.

THAT ENDING THOUGH!!!!!!
I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT!!

Blimey I seriously thought that you couldn't top book 1 in this series but boy was I wrong. This one was so much better. On so many levels. Just wow!!! The plot twists were just knockout especially ones at the end of this book. I've literally just finished reading it and my mind is still trying to process what the hell went on in it. It completely drew me in and I couldn't put it down. What with the ups and downs with Sloane & Dorian, family dramas and omg wolf??? It keeps you on your toes that's for sure. I'm loving this series so damn much. It's bloody brilliant!!

Did I see those twists coming? Absolutely. However, it made me even more interested in the story than I had been before so at this point definitely going to continue the series. The character growth from D was definitely something that had been unexpected, but necessary. The banter was also pretty entertaining this time around and I actually really enjoyed Sloane & Ares working together on his senior project.

TITLE: Savage Little Lies
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
AUTHOR: Eden O’Neill
TROPE: Enemies-to-Lovers
TYPE: Series (Court Legacy Book 2)
POV: Dual POV
MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5

⚠️ Check trigger warnings; this dark content is for +18 readers

What I liked:
✔️ Twists
✔️ Secrets
✔️ Dorian grovelling

Savage Little Lies picks up the storyline where Book One left off and was much quicker to be pulled back into the story right from the first chapter. Sloane is in for an emotional rollercoaster as she navigates the Legacy and issues with her brother Bru. Dorian’s character had me feeling angry and frustrated with him at times; he is his own worst enemy. I loved seeing him grovel and that Sloane has a backbone. Once again, that cliffhanger had me reeling and jumping right into the next book in the series. I am giving Savage Little Lies a rating of 4 / 5 stars.

This was an amazing addition to all the books court related. I really like that Dorian is such a jealous alpha-hole. I loved that Sloan didn’t just lay down and let Dorian walk all over here after he messed up! That ending was so shocking but it also left me really mad at Ares. I am going to go crazy waiting on the next one!
