Wayne Walter Dyer was an American self-help author and a motivational speaker. Dyer earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy, a Master’s degree in Psychology and an Ed.D. in Guidance and Counseling at Wayne State University in 1970. Early in his career, he worked as a high school guidance counselor, and went on to run a successful private therapy practice. He became a popular professor of counselor education at St. John's University, where he was approached by a literary agent to put his ideas into book form. The result was his first book, Your Erroneous Zones (1976), one of the best-selling books of all time, with an estimated 100 million copies sold. This launched Dyer's career as a motivational speaker and self-help author, during which he published 20 more best-selling books and produced a number of popular specials for PBS. Influenced by thinkers such as Abraham H. Maslow and Albert Ellis, Dyer's early work focused on psychological themes such as motivation, self actualization and assertiveness. By the 1990s, the focus of his work had shifted to spirituality. Inspired by Swami Muktananda and New Thought, he promoted themes such as the "power of intention," collaborated with alternative medicine advocate Deepak Chopra on a number of projects, and was a frequent guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
Sometimes you start reading a book at the exact moment you are meant to read it. I've had this book for awhile, but kept choosing other things to read. When I finally picked this up and began to read, it hit home immediately. As someone who is still dealing with grief and anxiety, I found Wayne's words comforting, like he was speaking right to me. I needed to hear more about going beyond form, it really inspired me.
It's so easy to get pulled into ego mentality and the worldly pursuits and gains. This reminded me to shift my thinking when I'm being brought down by my thoughts and to let go of the outcome of situations.
I have followed Wayne Dyer for many years and I have missed his teachings, even though I revisit some of the older audiobooks. I really enjoyed the way Hay House put this together. Even though I've read his words many times, sometimes you need the information you already know to be presented in a different format for those aha moments to come to light. Also the forward written by Brendon Burchard was wonderful.
Recommended for fans of Wayne Dyer's books and PBS programs and for those who have never read his books before. This would be a great introduction into enlightenment and trying to live with more peace.
Incredible! This is exactly what I needed for the beginning of this year. It’s the first time I’ve read any Wayne Dyer and I’m excited to read more of his books. I’ll be reading this one again because some of the ideas were quite complex for me and will take some practice. Great book for anyone looking to grow in their spiritual practice and connect with themselves at a higher level.
The late, great Wayne Dyer has written numerous inspiring books and thus supported many on their spiritual path.
However, he didn’t actually write the present book; it was put together by Hay House from his speeches and presentations.
And I must admit I didn’t appreciate everything in the book.
Wayne suggests that we get into the habit of telling ourselves every morning “This is the last day of my life”.
Now, I’m getting on in age, and I don’t really want to shorten my life by repeating a negative affirmation such as this every day.
If Wayne said this every day, perhaps that was the reason he died unexpectedly, I would say before his time - though I’m sure he’s doing good work helping us all from the higher planes.
Otherwise it’s the usual good stuff.
He tells us that the first key to higher awareness is to “banish the doubt”, i.e. believe that what you want is possible.
The second key is to cultivate the witness.
For example instead of identifying with pain, we are instructed to become the witness to the pain. Notice everything about it, its colour, shape and size. One finds that one can manifest an absence of pain by becoming the witness.
Wayne helped a woman ease her depression by instructing her to use this method. “You learn that you are not this thing. You have been watching it.”
He tells us that he repeats the following affirmation every day:
“In my world, nothing ever goes wrong.”
When you find yourself troubled by anything, say out loud, “I am more than what bothers me. I am more than my troubles.”
You come to realize that you are not those troubles, you’re that which is aware of them.
When Wayne had a foot injury that bothered him when he played tennis, he used the witness technique, The next time he went to play tennis, the injury was gone.
“When you can witness and not identify with all aspects of your life, your higher awareness will allow things that once seemed very difficult to become almost meaningless to you.”
You can also use this technique if you’re burdened with deadlines and feel stressed about it.
I tried the witness technique with my pain but it didn’t seem any different from what I was previously doing. And witnessing the pain didn’t relieve the pain in any way. I would have needed to have been out of the body for this to happen.
The third key is Shut down the inner dialogue.
Again, you just observe the thoughts; you don’t judge them.
For shutting down your inner dialogue, he recommends the affirmation:
“The more I listen the more profound the silence becomes.”
There’s a chapter on the fourth key, Tame your ego, and chapters on Know that we’re all one, Surrender and go with the flow, and Harness the Power of Visualization.
So it turned out to be an okay book after all, and Wayne fans will want to read this one too.
Great advice. This is another that will move you forward in your journey, I believe. Hay House created this book from Wayne Dyers audios and video programs. They did a good job of this keeping Wayne's memory alive.
"All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone." Truth, when recognized, frees your soul. Jam your days with a busy, overscheduled, distraction upon distraction existence and the soul will suffer.
Really enjoyed it- basically sufi philosophy but in generic higher consciousness terms, helped me get through my art history paper and feel less angry/indignant about life
Hi All, This is my first book on Dr.Wayne W.Dyer. I choose to read this one for the publication and reviews about the author. As the book itself is collection of ideas compiled and published after his life. I am not sure about his writing style, language and presentations.
Overall the content of book is highly knowledgeable and worth the investment of your time. The detailed analysis about Ego and its impact on our daily activities is enlightening. This is not a self help book and it is about Self Realization is very powerful message. We need to keep our open mind wider to enjoy the complete package of benefits to the audience. The trick is get held up with urge of responding to the first conflict or disagreement and our thoughts get filled. Deliberately one need to clear the thoughts before we get indulge in the next concept.
I found absorbing the concepts individually( not get stuck in continuity) to move ahead and then recap after completing the book. This method helped get the best out of the book.
Of course it was little dry at the beginning more philosophical, First time readers, audience with lesser interest with self-help genre will find it more challenging.
Thanks to everyone, Dr Wayne W Dyer for coming out with this book. Definitely the objective of self realization has triggered in me.
I chose this book after reading Wayne Dyer - Happiness is the Way which was amazing! This book was a great read in parts, however did focus more on 'God' and I felt there was a lot of religious references which is fine for me but only in small amounts. There's was some repetition of the same anecdotes and ideas. I was still very inspired by this book and will definitely continue to read more of Wayne Dyer!
This book is like putting on a comfortable sweater on a cold day. The material in the is well known to those of us acquainted with Wayne but it never gets old and is comforting to read and meditate on. “All is one” and we are all manifestations of God or what other name is used for information of consciousness and energy of love. Do not hesitate to call on Wayne in your prayers. I am sure he will be there for you.
This book has similar concepts as busting loose from the money game I also read recently, but in the standard fashion of Wayne Dyer that feels like reading and simultaneously hearing the voice of an old wise friend. Apparently this book was published post mortem from one of his talks. It was a good reminder and wave up call to our power as the creators of our lives.
The book derives from many sources. Some critics say this as detraction, I don't see it as a bad thing. Dyer was criticized in his time as a financial opportunist and somewhat of a new age grifter. Don't know. The book has Sage advice as do unto others..
It's a great book for those who want to learn more on what spirituality and "waking" up feels like and how you feel in the world. He shares some great advice I did find some of the parts a bit boring I felt like I was struggling to get through but I managed to finish it. I would really recommend it for those on a spiritual journey and it gives a bit of everything.
Although the book started out a little slow it did pick up in the later chapters. The information was thought provoking and useful. I did highlight some really great points that he shared in the book. This isn't my favorite Dyer book but it is still a good book that contains some good information.
This book was very helpful. I love the simplicity of just living your life in a way that makes you happy. Serve others, not yourself. Be kind. Live with a purpose to make others happy and not solely yourself. Life is good :)
It stimulates thought, is understandable and conveys practical wisdom from someone who has lived what he thought. It reads like a conversation with a friend.
I’ve read quite a few of Wayne Dyer’s books and this one is so good. Everything is written so well and you feel at peace reading it. Now it’s time to implement what he wrote.
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to move beyond the limitations put on us by the world we live in. Dr. Dyer has a way of motivating us to look deeply within ourselves to find the truth of who we are and why we are here. His works are very inspiring.
Wayne Dyer offers practical advice to open up to your true self and operate from the wonderful presence of love and bliss. It is a shift that is possible and makes you aware of the connectedness of all things. Go for it!
This is one of those books that are a joy to read and you get some much from it at the same time, it is really an amazing book with so many insights for personal and spiritual growth, for sure I will read it again in the future.
Take notes! This was great for a beginner like me. India. Arie recommended Wayne Dyer on her podcast, and after reading I will recommend to anyone trying to live a more peaceful life.
As a longtime reader and follower of Wayne Dyer, I found this book so disappointing. It's almost entirely a re-write of things we heard over and over again from Wayne for decades. A real waste of my time and money.
This book was a solid reminder and refresher on a subject that I was already familiar with. Sometimes you need to read something framed in a new way for it to make the most impact. I've been carrying some of his lessons from the book with me since reading it and have felt less worried.
Overall, a good read with plenty of good insights.
I bought this book when I was at a different place in my life so I feel like if I had read it then, it might have hit more deeply. Now, at this point in my life, I just didn't resonate with it as much as I probably could have.
Loved this book. If you’re ready for the information, you’ll be happy to read this book. I’m already looking forward to my next Wayne Dyer read. Thank you sir. Amazing legacy.
I loved this book so much. Every chapter is so full of wisdom and it resonated with me so much. I would recommend this book to anyone who is following a spiritual path. Excellent.
All is said in this book makes us limitless. Love all the insights and wisdom in it. Serve, see the God in everything including yourself, we are all in it together. Love.
