Weather 100% chance of Sabotage, Murder, and Mystery .
I’m Autumn Davis, a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, and this was supposed to be my big break.
I uprooted my life in hopes of creating a name for myself. Becoming the prime suspect in a high-profile murder investigation wasn’t a part of that plan.
Now, a storm is brewing, and the barometric pressure of this situation is threatening to cause a downpour on my future.
***This is a the same story, just a cover change***
I think the author, Ashleigh Quinn, is a gifted story teller. I would say the editing let her down a bit as there are several pages where whole sentences are repeated and occasional typos. Putting that aside, I think my expectations led me to wanting a slightly more relatable character in Autumn. She is beautiful and talented and from superstar parents. I guess I was hoping for a few quirks or things that would endear her to me. She goes out for drinks most nights after work, talks poorly about the woman she is replacing, almost from the first moment she meets her, and is willing to break the law without a thought. There is just something a little prickly about her personality. I think my biggest frustration was the ending. I won't say more here about that. I think that the writing style is good but the ending of the book was not acceptable in a mystery.
A really fun new series that has you rooting for the main character. Autumn is a meteorologist living in her hometown of LA near her widowed lawyer father looking for a big break in her career. Her deceased mother was killed in an accident. She was a very famous storm chaser and Autumn idolizes her mother's image which is why she is a meteorologist. When she gets a job offer that could be the bring big career break she is so excited. She is also developing a special app that would help in the ability to see coming storms sooner. But when she told her father, he was trying to talk her out of taking the position. It seems he had a run in with the owner of the weather channel's owner and besides she would have to leave LA and go to Kansas City. But she must follow her dreams. Little did she know she was going to replace Shelly, the mean girl weather anchor there now. And little did she know she would become a major suspect to a murder. She is befriended at the studio by the handsome cameraman, Ron who becomes her voice of reason and can calm her down. I can't wait to see what happens next! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
As I read though this book, Forecast Foul-play, I have got to say I really felt it is a well thought out story line. The characters are beautifully designed and personalized delightfully. The main character, Autumn (catchy pun cause she’s a weather lady) has a strong female lead role in the story that I loved. Her fortitude and persistence was refreshing to read and wanted more from it. I liked how the story had like five suspects and it kept switching back to different story lines to see different prospectives from the other characters. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is from the numerous typos and paragraphing issues that made it a bit hard to follow at times. Definitely work a read for sure! Good book!
I enjoyed reading this cozy murder mystery with its likable, deceitful and calculating diverse characters, interesting discussions, and exceptional settings. A determined Autumn Davis accepts a position as a meteorologist who has created an app that will bring a failing TV station into a high-tech winner, but things change when Shelly Cartwright, a co-worker, becomes her archenemy. The storytelling is wonderful; the twists and turns are unexpected, revealing some scandal, betrayal, secrets and lies, deceit and envy, building up to a bombshell ending reminding us that looks can be deceiving.
I loved this cozy mystery! Autumn Davis is starting her gig as a weatherwoman, but upon reporting to Moore Productions, finds that she's more of a glorified intern. She tries to jump into the new position, but the current meteorologist, Shelley, is incredibly rude and abrasive right from the beginning. Autumn is seen publicly arguing with her, which complicates things when Shelley winds up dead. Autumn then works with her janitor friend, Carl, to try to unravel the mystery and clear her name, but that could be putting her in danger as well! The characters are likable, there's some action, and overall, readers will love this cozy mystery!
Autumn was hoping her new position would provide the big break she was hoping for. She learns that the current meteorologist is not a favorite of her co-workers. Unfortunately, there is a murder and Autumn becomes a suspect. Join Autumn as she navigates her own investigation into the murder. As one reviewer mentioned, the version of the book I have would have received a higher rating if not for the numerous typos and paragraph issues that made it hard to follow. Additionally, the ending seemed to end abruptly.
WWMB OR WINDY WEATHER MIGHT BE BETTER IS THE NAME OF THE BROADCAST LOT IN THE BOOK FORECAST: FOUL PLAY BY WRITER ASHLEIGH QUINN. STARTING A JOB AT WWMB IS NO SWEAT FOR THE LATEST BLACK WEATHER GIRL, BUT KEEPING UP WITH THE OTHERS AT THIS LATEST LOCALE HAS PROVEN DIFFICULT. ONE OF THE OTHER FORECASTERS REPORTS WWMB MISSING UNTIL IT'S TIME TO GO BACK, WHAT A HARDSHIP!!! THIS BOOK WAS GREAT, THOUGHTFUL, AND WITTY. NO ONE COULD FINISH THE JOB BUT WWMB AND, THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO SAY!!!
The format and dual timelines of what happens and the police interview was unique and enjoyable. I ended up really liking the personality of the main character. I do wish that this would have been more show than tell. For example, we have to pick up clues as to what Ron looks like throughout as all that's provided at first is "he's gorgeous...". There were several grammatical errors which took me out of the story at times. Also, a few scenes that really went nowhere.
An enjoyable afternoon read - quick and easy. A good story and nicely written. The characters are likeable and interesting. I would have like to see Autumn have more assertiveness. Ron needs a little more depth, we don’t really get too much of him outside of work. And Shelly could have been a little more diva and catty. The ending seemed to hang - we are not absolutely positive about the killer. The book kept me interested from beginning to end and I think this has potential for a great series. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
A meteorologist working on her app moves to Kansas City to take a job as the weather person. There's the usual diva that doesn't want to giver position, and the usual hottie, this time a camera man.
When the diva is murdered, the meteorologist is suspected by the police. Most of the story actually takes place in the interrogation room. No Keyzer Soze though.
It's okay, but you can't have a whole series with this formula.
4.5 stars. Things are rather tense as Autumn starts her first "real" weather reporting job. She's relegated to doing small tasks and some people are welcoming, some not. But when a particularly controlling woman ends up dead, Autumn is suspected by all. While trying to keep her job, she's also trying to save her skin! Well written - and even if I did suspect the culprit, I wasn't sure of all the details. Good story! - I received an advance copy and freely leave this honest review.
The book's unconventional ending left me with mixed feelings. A more fitting conclusion could have significantly elevated my overall impression. Nevertheless, the author's style has piqued my interest enough to explore more of their work. If the next book resonates with me, I'll happily dive into their collection, adopting a cycle of reading and discovery.
Thoroughly enjoyed this read. It was clever and well written. Some humour throughout and a good mystery. Characters were fun. I was left wanting more of the story and wanting to read the next in the series.
Disappointed with the ending. #1 in a series. I don’t know if the story will continue in book 2 or be a totally new situation with the main character. Some grammar errors. Pronoun switches relating to characters.
A quick and easy cozy murder mystery that keeps you guessing. It is the start to a new series. The main character hates cats but other than that is a good amateur sleuth and relatable. I am looking forward to more books in this series. I really enjoy the author's pacing of the story.
This was an enjoyable quick read, the storyline was well written. I can't wait to read more from this author. I received this book as a Free copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
This is an enjoyable cozy mystery. Plenty of suspects. Great characters too. Just let it be known that it has been rewritten and reworked to come out July 3! Get both versions!
Enjoyable writing style, likeable lead character. Rather interesting mystery until we get to the end, which I can only say is baffling and abrupt. [Perhaps I received something before the final version of the story, I just don't know?]
We have a confident and capable meterologist stepping out on her own, away from her father's support and protection and into a curiously messy job that is not what was advertised. We get to meet and understand a number of side characters and the storytelling is really quite good. It sounds like this may be the first in a series about the same lead character, but I'm not quite certain. The ending is odd. Had that been more appropriate I would have rated the book much higher.
I'll probably try another book of this author, and if I like it I'll wash, rinse, and repeat.
