From start to finish, this tale managed to wrench my heart from my chest and squeeze it like a wet rag. Somehow, reading cautionary tales taste more potent at Christmas Time. The time a year, full of celebration and love, can also be one of the most heartbreaking as it prompts reflection on all one has lost, yearned for, and never head.

I appreciate the intelligent and thoughtful plot, revolving around the premise of what do our parents want for us versus what do we want for ourselves… and what matters more and is worth living for until our final breath.

This tale will be haunting my thoughts for years to come.

The story was emotional. I think this would have been more impactful if I hadn't been left with Hermione's motivations so open-ended. It didn't seem like the way Hermione would act at all.

What did I just read? Tragedy.... just tragedy. Did he just have to kiss her to break the spell? Did he never kiss her? He could have had her all this time if he kissed her? Once he loved her?

This poor man... he loved a woman he couldn't have. He cared for her, took care of her. His kids... not able to see a healthy love in their parents...
Saddness. This man.
