The War of the Gods has stalled while both sides recover, borders have been established, and a form of uneasy peace descends on the Imperial Territory of Dravith . . .
It should be a time of consolidation, of rest and giving the survivors the chance to rearm and train.
But life rarely goes as Jax expects.
New and old enemies are on the horizon, the land itself is disturbed, and worst of all, the Gods are not all he believed they are . . .
Excellent story telling jam packed with lots of actions and excitement. Hard to put down once’s you start reading. What a Cliffhanger to end this book. Can’t wait for the next story in line.
The adventure continues. Every time the MC moves forward enemies push him back.
The MC constantly has to overcome overwelming odds to prevail against those who would continue the slide to anarcy, especially to futher their own selish desires. Nobles who caused the cataclysm still survive on earth and have started invading the underverse, using their former positions as imperial leaders to subvert Jax, the MC. Some get stopped cold but certainly others have remained hidden, including dear old dad, the chief evil-doer. At the end the MC, his wife are in a pickle aka a cliffhanger.
As in previous books, there is lots and lots of action, monsters, magic, empire building etc. I did feel that the storyline got a bit bogged down in magic theory and gobbledygook as the MC tried to overcome the world eating sludge monster, just after fighting the mutated spider woman horror.
I would also appreciate a cast description as there are many characters that I've forgotten who they are. Especially after having read previous books quite a while ago. I felt that Morgana the new character that opened the book could have played a bigger role. She seems to be an interesting character who could become one of the MC's cohort. She could end up being a catalyst to open a path back to earth for example.
I don't usually write reviews. I've read everything this guy has written and a few dozen others. It's good. But after waiting a year... Unsatisfying. Good length, good writing, interesting characters, the plot moved along, but frankly MC accomplished next to nothing for 700 pages except 3 minor skirmishes. No updates or more than minor mentions on the wisps, elves, dark pantheon, rest of the continent, the tower, the empire, regrowth of the empire, the gnomish villages, pantheon of flame, the fleet, the army, the praetorians, etc. The mC spend several hundred pages on the prax but accomplished little. Author went with the "spin the characters everywhere to bring them together later" thing. Don't get me wrong. I would still recommend the series and the others honestly. It's just... I read it in a day. I waited a year. And I feel like you could skip this one without much changing except his old relatives showed up. I don't want to say meh... But if the next one is much of the same it will be meh.
The future is full of challenges and opportunities for those brave enough to grasp them
Much happens as our heroes and legionnaires confuse to rebuild the Empire, but they keep coming back to the Prax. An immense city that used to float or fly and long ago crashed into the ocean, has the resources and golems they need but they aren’t the only ones ransacking these ruins.
Remember, Jax was sent to open a portal to Earth but decided not to pursue that goal after meeting his father and being severely disappointed by the sack of shit. Now it seems that some of the nobles banished to Earth may have found a portal back to UnderVerse and are making their own havoc. Guns aren’t the worst of what they have bring and in their arrogance they may have doomed the world by releasing an evil so ancient the earliest gods were drained to defeat it. It has spent 700 years waiting for a chance to strike back and sadly for Jax and Oracle, they have something it needs.
This series has just went from strength to strength as the world building and characters have evolved into ones which we all care about. With so much happening this has actually remained very well on point to the overall story progression whilst remaining very believable. Each stage has involved the reader into the story where you start saying characters traits , for me the relationships between Oracle , Jax and Tommy have been a mainstay and if the sense of humour is a bit on the risque side all the more for me to laugh and enjoy. The chance to evolve out bodies and stats being so integral to LitRPG just makes this that little bit more what we always imagine in our superheroes. So for all other fans, this was worth the wait and say it together Naginataaaaa.
Has it's good parts and it's bad parts. Jax went forever without upgrading stats again. He kept getting into trouble, one thing after another. Etc. And nothing can ever be easy. Pretty much the theme of the series.
It is a good book, and the humor is good, and the story is excellent. That said, as other books in the series have shown, as readers we're pretty much taken along on a wild ride through the author's ADHD. Which is both good, and bad. Consolidation isn't really a thing, and as far as power fantasy's go, Jax never feels OP, even though he probably should. There's also a ridiculous amount of time spent healing, healing others, healing themselves. I'd still rate the book 5 stars, but if you're hoping for a change in the formula this far along, and those things bother you, you may want to reconsider.
Take 1: Reading the best 5% of the book I'm thinking "yeah, this series is pretty good." Reading the worst 10% of the book I'm thinking "why in the world do I read this junk?"
Take 2: The author can't decide is this is primarily a solo hero adventure or a massive multiple character story of empire, and isn't talented enough to write both modes in the same book.
Take 3: This volume suffers greatly from not having a clear antagonist. Tries to introduce a new antagonist - a black oozy tar. Not a very engaging antagonist.
For myself, I've been looking to cut back on the number of long series that I follow and I think it is time to let this one drop.
So few, truly good stories out there. This series feels like a run away freight train on steroids and it is truly epic. Mr Cajiao, you sir have beautifully twisted imagination, we love it, its why read them (the books). Don't ever stop please, some of the most entertaining, enjoyable books I've had the pleasure to read. Ill let the 6 or more months between books slide for the sake of the other series. Lmao!!!
This is one of my favorite book series of all time and in book 7 Jez continues to deliver an amazing story. So great to get back to these characters I love and see how they grow in book 7. As always, the dialogue is so real and well written. Action scenes put you right in the middle of the fight. And plot twists keep you guessing. Thank you Jez! Outstanding book!
I really want to love these books. So much potential but the author insists on throwing in sensational highly improbable plot twists. Also somehow the MC always ends up separated from his bodyguards and team fighting for his life. Literally every major fight he manages to get separated. This makes absolutely no sense.
Another great book in the series. It’s certainly action packed and the suspense makes you turn those pages faster and faster. I will say, I wish more time was devoted to the magic system that Jax seems to be uncovering. It seems incredibly intriguing and I want to know more. Otherwise, the book was great and definitely what I would expect from Cajiao.
This book 7 keeps all the good things a some of the mistakes of all the others. A good editor would shed 20% of the book for sure but the action is as energetic as always and even if the story meanders a little (the main adventure is sort of a fill up) it moves ahead somewhat. A good fun ride all in all…
This was a great read it story is one of the best in the Series. The story line just keeps getting better and better can't wait until the next book..... Thank you Jez for an awesome book!!!!!
Not the ending i was expecting but a helluva cliff hanger as Cajiao says it will be. The overall it is more of what i expect in the series and the truth about the gods again not what i expected but a good thing lot line.
I think that this is a great series of books, although I did hate the cliffhanger at the end of this one and it'll be awhile for book 8. Still looking forward to the next book in this series.
I do love Jax and his adventures 😁each story make it more enjoyable, though I do feel Bob is neglected. A shame really cause he was such I big part before he became sentient.I
This book is up to the Author’s usual standards. Ended up binging the book to finish it and while I’m currently tired writing this review, would do again for this series.
I really enjoy reading about the Prince if the Empire, Jax. His escapades, and adventures are really fun to read, and immerse yourself into his world the Underverse.
I love this series and read the entire thing in two weeks. I can’t wait in the next book. The action and violence is captivating. Jax continues to grow in power and I look forward to seeing him develop into a fully functional adult lol
Another awesome trip to the Underverse. Fantastic work Jez, looking forward to the next book and can't wait. Thoroughly enthralling world with characters that draw you in.
Really good series, can't help liking even loving most of the characters. Just a really enjoyable read. Now, just have to wait for more. At book seven, and hooked. Have to wait til end of year, get 8&9. Be a long wait lol.
