Hong Kong, 1989, and British expat Sam Steadings has completed nine months of training as a probationary inspector at the Royal Hong Kong Police Training School.
Young and inexperienced, Sam's first posting on the dangerous and unfamiliar streets of Kowloon will test him more than he could ever imagine, as an ambitious and demanding Divisional Commander, an illicit love affair, violent triad gangsters and a cunning foe push him to his limits.
This tense debut thriller takes the reader back to the years when law and order in colonial Hong Kong was threatened by a new breed of ruthless criminals and the mean streets of Kowloon were menaced by armed robbers as never before.
This is a well written, fast paced novel with enough police procedure and references to make it realistic without compromising the story telling. The characters, local references and descriptions really give a feel for Hong Kong in the 80s. Definitely worth a read and I look forward to book 2 in the series.
