I absolutely loved this collection. The antics of Piper and the Dentures and Diamonds crime squad keep you on your toes. I also enjoy the beginnings of a romance in the series. Hope there is more to come from these ladies.

Piper Sandstone, aka Sharon, has just opened the Queen's Bees Private Investigation firm along with her senior sleuthing friends Doris, Rosemary, Patty Sue and Margie (aka the Diamonds and Dentures Crime Squad), and they're just off a case of finding a killer and a champion dog. Now they're ready for business. But before they do so, they're attending the dog show at the estate of a wealthy art collector. Unfortunately, things don't go well -- the art is stolen right off the walls, and during the show. So now they have to wonder who would have planned this? It doesn't help when the owner, Henry Hughes, shows up, screaming at everyone, nor when the PIs find a dead security guard.
Someone had to know about the heist. Was it the security guard they found, Marco Jenkins? Or the IT guy who claims a hacker broke into the system? Or was it someone close to Mr. Hughes, who might have thought this a good opportunity? But Piper knows art like this can't be sold, and only another private investor will buy it. So where do they go from here?
With the unwanted help of Piper's new bodyguard, Gemma Bianchi, hired by her uncle, Chief Hobbs, to protect her (really, how can a woman so small protect anyone?), and Gemma constantly telling her everything Piper does is a bad idea, she's still determined to solve the case. If the PIs don't, they just might be relegated to finding more cases involving cows. But just as things seem to be getting interesting, her Chicago friends Nancy and Morgan have surprises in store for themselves.
Piper's also trying to take time out for herself -- and her interest in the sheriff. On a picnic together she's miffed that Gemma insists on tagging along, albeit 'being invisible'. She doesn't even want a bodyguard!
Yet she has to work on the case, and when they may or may not have hit upon a major clue...and meanwhile, back in Chicago, Piper's friends are still having problems of their own -- and need to get to her...
We know that Piper has been hiding out in Savory, ever since she cornered dirty cops in the Windy City. Until the case comes to trial, she's been living as Sharon in her PI business. But unfortunately, a glimpse of Piper has hit the news because the ladies are investigation the high-end art robbery and two deaths.
The hit men are on the trail. Her good cop friends from Chicago are following the hit men and trying to get to Piper first. And Piper and her friends are trying to solve the heist and the murder. How can her bodyguard Gemma keep Piper safe if she won't let her?...
This is a blast, watching the seniors at work while they try and stay by Piper's side. Piper, meanwhile, is trying to do her job and not worry about anything else; but then again, she doesn't know the hit men are on their way. Still, I have to say that the last is probably the best part of the book. Everything comes together neatly, and we get a climax that's both intense and funny at the same time. The book ties up all the ends together weaving the story to a satisfying conclusion, and Piper and her friends definitely have their hands full, leaving something else to look forward to...but I won't spoil it. Highly recommended.

There is definitely a lot going on in this book with the different scenarios but quite a bit of action and suspense. I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. I’m looking forward to the next one in the series.

Solving Their First Case . . .
In the start of this series, Piper Sandstone remains undercover as Sharon, hiding out in the small Southern town to avoid her former colleagues in Chicago who are trying to kill her. Piper and her “Dentures and Diamonds Crime Squad” buddies go into business as private investigators since they all work so well together. Their new business is named “Queen Bee’s Private Eyes” and they are ready for business! Unfortunately, her uncle, Chief Hobbs, sent an unwelcome bodyguard to keep Piper safe on her new job -- and Gemma annoys her thoroughly as seen when Piper compares Gemma to a thumbtack that gets stuck in your shoe and has no purpose except to annoy.
Mr. Alan Haywood of Haywood Farms was their first client who wanted them to investigate who was messing with his cows. He blames their unrest and bellowing -- which coincidentally starts at midnight every Friday -- on a voodoo hex. The team stepped through a gap in the fence, then saw 5 figures at the edge of the pasture, all swaying and stumbling as they moved. Gemma pulled out a gun, to the horror of the ladies, saying the trespassers could be undercover agents posing as drunk teenagers. The ladies demanded she put the gun away! Solving Their First Case . . .
In the start of this series, Piper Sandstone remains undercover as Sharon, hiding out in the small Southern town to avoid her former colleagues in Chicago who are trying to kill her. Piper and her “Dentures and Diamonds Crime Squad” buddies go into business as private investigators since they all work so well together. Their new business is named “Queen Bee’s Private Eyes” and they are ready for business! Unfortunately, her uncle, Chief Hobbs, sent an unwelcome bodyguard to keep Piper safe on her new job -- and Gemma annoys her thoroughly as seen when Piper compares Gemma to a thumbtack that gets stuck in your shoe and has no purpose except to annoy.
Mr. Alan Haywood of Haywood Farms was their first client who wanted them to investigate who was messing with his cows. He blames their unrest and bellowing -- which coincidentally starts at midnight every Friday -- on a voodoo hex. The team stepped through a gap in the fence, then saw 5 figures at the edge of the pasture, all swaying and stumbling as they moved. Gemma pulled out a gun, to the horror of the ladies, saying the trespassers could be undercover agents posing as drunk teenagers. The ladies demanded she put the gun away! The teens were trying to tip a cow and put their “daring feat” on YouTube! The cow walked away and they chased it, upsetting the rest of the herd. Then the cows turned and chased the kids. When the activity quieted down, the Queen Bee’s gang told the boys the cops would be called next time. They had solved their first case and eagerly prepare for the next one!

Piper Sandstone, in the guise of Sharon, has partnered with the Dentures and Diamonds crew to form a Detective Agency. Their first case is solving the Disturbed Cows. Turns out to be a bunch of drunk teenagers cowtipping. They attend the dog show being held at a local mansion, and that's when things get interesting. There is also famous art on display in the mansion, and during the dog show it all disappears. The team immediately starts to investigate. This is the first of a five part story. You get to know the characters and the crime is set up to continue in the next book. Will they find the missing paintings? Will the solve the case? Or will the killers looking for Piper put a stop to all of it? Tune in next week for the next chapter.

The investigation continues. The ladies happen to find the three handy men but the trail turns cold when they find out they were hired. The goons who are hunting for Piper are tripped up but are on their way. Will Piper (Sharon) solve the case or will she get caught? Enjoy this 2nd installment in this 5 part story.

The investigation continues. The ladies get a few more clues to check out. Back in Chicago, Nancy and Morgan get away and alert the Chief to what is going on. Will Piper solve the case or will the assassins get there first? Join in and follow along as we head to the 4th installment.

Compilation of a Funny Who Done It Set of Crimes!
This book is a compilation of the 5-book series "Bacon, Bodyguards, and Ballistics: The Complete Deep Fried Revenge Series Collection (A Piper Sandstone Culinary Cozy Mystery), written by Karen McSpade. Please be sure to read the first 5-book Piper Sandstone series before reading this second series. This way, you'll know why bad guys from Chicago are after Piper and why she is in Witness Protection in Savory Alabama. The first series is about a missing show dog and a couple of murders. This second set of books is about a multi-million dollar art heist, the murders of Marco and Max who are twin bodyguards during the art heist, and the mystery of who did it, or if there were more than one criminal to deal with. This particular 5-book set brings Piper's friends from Chicago, her best friend, Nancy, who works at the Chicago PD, Morgan, the tall, skinny male friend who is a computer tech at that department, and Chief Hobbs, Piper's uncle, who hires Gemma, a 5'0" female martial artist from Italy to be Piper's bodyguard. Other main characters in both book sets are the Delta Queens, a group of 4 middle-aged women who use to be in an 80s rock band, and the handsome, hunk of a sheriff, Jake Johnson, who the four ladies are always trying to match up with Piper. This is a great book to read if you don't want to read each of the 5 books separately, because the crimes from books 1 and 2 are not solved until the end of book 5. The 5 books together are only about 350 pages total. I read each individual book in each series, then reviewed each on its own, then reviewed the collection sets and reviewed the series' as a whole. I gave this collection 5 stars. Now I am going to read "Murder at High Sea" by Karen McSpade. That book is about the Delta Queens solving a mystery while at sea.

I read the five-book set of Bacon, Bodyguards, and Ballistics: The Deep Fried Revenge Series Collection by Karen McSpade and found it very entertaining to read. Without giving away much of the story, it revolves around a Chicago detective who is banished to Savory, Alabama where she meets up with a group of "well-seasoned" ladies who have an interesting past. They form a private detective agency and set about solving some of Savory's mysteries. They are asked to solve an art theft that turns into a double homicide and is followed up by "bad guys" chasing her. Overall, it's a very fun ride and can't wait to see more of these sassy ladies.

Sharon Sandstone is hiding out in Savory, Alabama. She is a detective from Chicago and some dirty cops are after her. She is now known as Piper Sandstone. She has become friends with the Dentures and Diamonds Crime Squad. They are a group of retired ladies that used to be a rock band. It's decided to open up an office. They are the Queen Bee's Detective Agency. They are delightfully funny. You will have a hard time putting this series down You will probably want to read this more than once. Do you think there will be a romance between Piper and the Sheriff? Will Piper go back to Chicago or stay in Savory?

I am on Karen McSpade’s ARC team and I have read and loved all the books in this series! The setting is that a cop identifies but fails to catch a group of dirty cops and as a result, they are trying to kill her. So she is sent to a sleepy coastal town under cover until the dirty cops are arrested. There she meets up with a group of ladies who go by the name of the Delta Queens. These ladies are a hoot and together with the undercover cop manage to solve murders and mysteries, keeping the reader laughing and enjoying their sometimes odd behavior! Karen really bring these characters alive! Highly recommended! I did receive this set for free but I write this review entirely voluntarily.

The Bacon, Bodyguards, and Ballistics Collection of books are all fun and entertaining stories with great quirky characters. This series introduces a new character, Gemma, that is adding to the entertainment. I enjoy the way Karen McSpade intertwines mystery and humor throughout the books. The banter of the Dentures and Diamonds Crime Squad is a lot of fun! It’s wonderful to have a storyline that includes some energetic and entertaining older characters. The Queen Bee’s Private Eyes Agency gives us quite the adventure as they work to solve the crimes in Savory. As an added bonus there are some wonderful recipes at the end of each book. I throughly enjoyed each book in this series.

Another exciting read with lots of cliff hangers from art thefts to murder I have now read all the 5 story in this serial book. I am not a fan of serial stories and if its in a magazine I tend to store them up until whole story was readable, but I have enjoyed each book and was always left wishing the next part of the story would hurry up so that I could see what came next in this collection of stories. I have read an ARC copy of each of these books, and I have enjoyed every one of them. I have attempted some of the recipes despite them being Americanised, but they do taste good. I can empathise with the Delta Queens being closer in age to them rather than Piper.

This is the complete five book set of this cozy mystery series in one place.
These are cozy mysteries with a bit of a food/cooking theme. And I don't mean cooking up murder. The stories are well written and easy to read with a nicely detailed setting that has the right level of odd elements to it for this kind of story. The characters are also well done. I really grew to love our heroine and her gang throughout the series. Overall, the series was a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing what our author comes up with next.

This is the only way to read this series! Each book is easily read within a hour or two; so if you have the time you can read the enter series in a day. The fact that all you have to do to get to the next book is to turn the page makes it that much more convenient!
I heartily recommend you get this series box set as well as the previous box set detailing how Piper came to be in Savory in the first place and how she met the Delta Queens!

July 20, 2022I realy loved the The Deep Fried Revenge series, the girls in the detective agency are portrayed as funny, smart and inventive, I still cackle to myself when I think of the situations that they got themselves in and out off, and of course where else would you find such characters as created by Karen McSpade, if you want a good giggle mixed with mystery and danger, I whole heartedly recommend that you read this series ASAP.

The series as a whole is a well-done five-star set of stories. Some of the 'books' left me hanging, so it's nice that they are all together now as one bundle. The impatient part of me is quite happy to have them all wrapped up together, for reading start to finish as quickly as I'd like.
Good dialogue, realistic adventures, people are portrayed in all their glory and shame. I liked the story - and the sub-stories, too.

Bacon, Bodyguards and Ballistics! Even the title draws you in as you wonder how in the world can these three B's possibly connect in any sane way. So you read the first couple of paragraphs and you're hooked! You need to know what is coming!

OMG where to begin.... I absolutely love this series. I really love how each book is a quick read. Each book is action packed. Normally I would get upset when a book ends on a cliffhanger but in this case you just start the next book. It definitely kept me on my toes. I absolutely love Piper and her gang of crazy ladies in their Dentures and Diamonds squad always make me laugh. Between them, her body guard and a sprinkle of romance there is definitely never a dull moment in Savory.

This was a wonderful series. Sharon aka Piper and the Delta Queens made a great team solving mysteries. Jake as the Sheriff was warming up to their help. The Mayor was frustrated with both law enforcement and the private investigators on the progress of the case. 2 murders and an Art theft had the Mayor concerned. All seemed to be connected but putting all the pieces together took time.

Treat yourself to a fun, engaging series that will quickly become one of your favorite reads if it isn't already. You can't help but love Piper. Danger lurks all around her as she hides from some dangerous people who want her eliminated - and that's not all. See for yourself - the sooner the better.

Robbery and murder
I enjoyed reading this entertaining and enthralling box set. Piper and the Delta Queens are loveable with all their quirkiness. An art heist, a couple of murders and her past, keeps Piper busy and the Delta Queens are her greatest support This book is also hilarious and unpredictable. A must read for mystery lovers.

A great book covering a series. I enjoyed reading this adventure of Piper Sandstone and her best friends a group of senior ladies that love her and count her as their family. I enjoyed the two plots and the way they came together in the final act.

The characters are funny and quirky.
