Declan “Tug” Brazos is a paraplegic, but that doesn’t define him. He’s a man who’s always operated at one-hundred-and-ten percent. He’s building a house, he’s become part of an awesome group that doesn’t judge, and he’s interested in a woman. The problem is, the female in question doesn’t know he’s confined to a wheelchair, and he’s not sure how she’ll react when she finds out…or should he say if she finds out. The pair have been phone-friends for almost a year, but does Tug dare take things to the next level by orchestrating a meeting? His heart and his friends say yes, but the big medically discharged SEAL who’s never backed down from a challenge, isn’t sure he has the courage to take this on.
Reese Leanart has a huge crush on a man she’s never seen, but every time she works up the determination for an in-person meeting, she chickens out. She was born with a condition that often attracts scorn and ridicule; no more so than from her own cousins who have made it their life’s work to grind Reese’s self-esteem into the ground. How will Tug react if she allows him to set eyes on her? Isn’t it safer to keep him as a sexy voice over the phone instead of jeopardizing their year-long friendship? The decision is a tough one, but if a possible meeting goes well, it could add a whole new dimension to her life. If it backfires, however, and screws up their increasingly intimate conversations, she’s going to end up with a boatload of regret.
Too many things going on, and the writer didn’t do due diligence with Tug’s paraplegia. In addition to the “confined to a wheelchair” language that keeps popping up, it’s so inconsistent.
Sometimes he’s sitting on the sidelines being a sad sack about never dancing with a woman (while there are plenty of instances in the rest of the book with her on his lap, or twirling around each other). Other times, he apparently lives in a house with no ramp - and no effort to build one - so he *walks down the steps on his hands.* And he’s building a two-story house with his office upstairs, with no elevator, so he can KEEP walking on his hands as a way of staying fit.
Also, it’s so confusing to have this giant bunch of pals who only refer to each other by military nicknames - including women, including multiple women who are pregnant or just had kids. They flit in and out of the story and are hard to keep track of.
Tug at Her Heartstrings is the 7th book in the Heroes in Hardhats series in the Special Forces: Operation Alpha world. In this book we get to follow along as Tug finds his soul mate in Reese.
Reese's cousins & aunt take great pleasure in doing everything they can to make her feel worthless & unlovable. So even tho she has a huge crush on a customer, she'll never act on it. She figures if they can continue their friendship via phone, she won't get hurt when Tug sees her & runs the other way.
Tug is very interested in a woman he talks to on the phone whenever he gets a chance. But he hasn't told her he's a paraplegic. Does he dare take a chance that the woman of his dreams won't dump him when he tells her?
I've said it before & I'm saying it again. I LOVE this series. The main characters in this series all have some physical & emotional challenges they need to deal with so they can find their happily ever after. The author does a wonderful job of handling some very tough subjects & making us fall in love with the whole lot. This book, like all the others, is well written & takes you through the range of emotions with characters that grab you & won't let go. All in all there's only one thing more to say? Who's Next?
This story truly does tug at all your heartstrings. Finally we get Tug's story, this one will make you smile, laugh and tear up as well. Welcome back to Safety's farm and all the wonderful, strong men and women of his crew. Tug always wondered if he would ever truly find his happiness like the others have. Along comes the woman he has wanted to meet for the last year. Reese works at the lumbar yard they get all their supplies from and has secretly dreamed of meeting the man behind the voice on the phone. They both have scars, emotional and visual. Scars that keep them from embracing what the heart wants. I could go on and on about this story but you just have to read it yourself to really fall in love with them all. Take a leap and embrace soul deep love. Tug at Her Heartstrings
The stigma of being physically disabled, being shamed and bullied for looking different and the cruelty of another's words are front and center in Tug At Her Heartstrings. I cannot praise LJ Vickery highly enough for the compassionate and obviously thorough researched insights into the challenges of being a paraplegic. Also bullying is a hot button for me so when said bullies get their comeuppance, I cheered out loud.
Can you fall in love over the phone? After a year of talking, flirting and sharing with each other Tug and Reese certainly have feelings for the other but meeting in person hasn't happened and perhaps never will. They both have secrets...big personal secrets. Deciding enough is enough, Tug decides to put himself out there and meet the woman who's captured his interest. When he finally sees Reese all he see is beauty. He slowly but surely coaxes her out of her self imposed solitary life, introduces her to his friends and makes her part of their family. Something she's never had before.
Tug and Reese are amazing. I love her quips. Tug and Reese have a lot in common. They both have things in their lives that hinder them to an extent. After talking for over a year on the phone, he finally takes the next steps to meet in person. Every thing is going great from there for them at least. Tug has a target on him from his time in the service. Tex is trying to track down who it is. Will they find out who is after him? Will Tug and Reese get their happy ending after all they have been through?
Tug a man that has lost the use of his legs a paraplegic who find love when he did not think it possible. With Tex's help he finds himself helping build homes for veterans, and the ones helping are all in one way of the other in the same situation as Tug is. Enter Reese who believes she is not perfect either, but both make such a wonderful couple, their love story is amazing and the characters are all wonderful, and seeing old friends at work too was a bonus for me. Now to head to the beginning and read all of their stories.
Tug has my heart! Reese is amazing! I am never one to reveal plot twists so short and sweet. If you haven’t read the rest of Heroes in Hardhats you should jump on that to have even more good feels. Start at Circus and you will be hooked until Tug takes your breath away! Cannot wait for more Heroes!
Adventure, bitterness, crazy disrespectful women and a past that finally catches up with Tug. Tug and Reese have been “dating” via phone for awhile when he finally decides to see her in person. No regrets and a HEA. Problems of the past are no more as well.
This is the first book in this series that I've read and mmm now! HAVE to go back and read the other six. These characters will quickly become family and you'll be as obsessed as I am. If you love hot guys and tough, sassy females this is the book (series) for ylu
Tug and Reeces story, few what a corker!! So pleased that after going through so much individually they found each other. Could they manage their own insecurities and outside events to be together, no spoilers but their journey is an amazingly good read. Love this series, imperfect warriors and their ladies! Cannot wait for the next book.....
I liked Tug & Reese's story. It was a good story line with her issues around her looks and pigment issue and Tug's reality of daily living in a wheelchair. I think the friendly fire issue was maybe not needed, or needed more thought but it was ok. Not sure if this is the actual last book in the series or if more is on the way?
Tug is a war hero that feels like he's not worthy after a military mishap left him a paraplegic.
I would recommend this book for mature readers that enjoy reading stories about a former military Special Forces Operator that has to reenter society without the use of his legs. Well done.
Wow! Great story. This is one of my favorites. Tug is wonderful. He was really helpful in supporting Reese and helping her become more confidant. Reese was definitely mistreated by her cousins but they finally received what they deserved. It was good to see all the characters from previous stories. Looking forward to the next one. Hope there will be stories about Tug's brothers.
A real battle of good vs evil rubs through this story. The evil relatives, the cruel remarks, and the danger that followed a warrior home. The physical aspects of being a paraplegic are covered in detail, in a respectful way. Well done.
Reese worked for her Uncles company. Reese had a mark on her face and a white streak down her hair. She had 2 cousins who also worked at the same place. They were bullies to Reese. Reese met Tug who was a parapaligic. Loved this story.
I enjoyed this book. The storyline is different and well developed which keeps the reader involved. The characters are brave, strong and well developed. The characters are intense and the lovemaking is off the chart.
I really enjoyed how the author used less than normal people in her stories. She does a great job explaining how challenging some every day activities change be for someone who has a disability. Loved it.
Two people with disabilities worried about what the other would perceive of them. Luckily, there is more to the naked eye. Action, suspense and heat. HEA.
