Encroaching Shadows

Rate this book
In this continuing fantasy tale, a young woman living in a new world faces a host of battles and obstacles that force her to push her abilities.

Ava Buchanan is plagued by nightmares and flashbacks of the horrifying night at her house, her imposter mother, and scorching flames. The box that she ran into the burning home to retrieve—the box that made her lose Laila—is now in her possession, thanks to Aidan, her half-werewolf, half-human lover who will do anything to protect her. Now left with many questions that include how she and Kieran made it through the portal, Ava can only hope the truth and her lost memories will eventually be revealed. Yet with so many being tortured to reveal her whereabouts, Ava’s wish may be more challenging than she imagines.

Ava has been thrown into a new world where everything she has always known to be right is crumbling around her. As new people, battles, and abilities line her path forward, she faces pressure from others to use her newfound power for their gain. Uncertain of who to trust as centuries swirl around her, Ava must decide whether to become the person everyone wants her to be or transform into who she is meant to be.

No dream is too big, or too small, but all dreams take hard work and dedication. I have dreamed of publishing a book since I was a child, despite many people telling me I couldn't, I held on to the dream, it took me 20 years to do it.

Book 2 Encroaching shadows.

Ava is not ok. The woman she thought was her mother, an imposter that burned her house to the ground, while Ava was inside it.

With Aidan, her half werewolf soul mate, she is even more desperate to recover the memories she is missing as her supernatural powers grow. Trust is now a commodity she doesn’t have and having Aidan hiding things from her isn’t helping with her trust issues. Finding herself strangely drawn to Kieran, Ava finds herself going against Aidan’s wishes on more than one occasion on her quest to figure out the right path and to find herself.

I still don’t like Aidan and I hate love triangles even more but I adore Kieran. He is definitely a better fit for Ava in my opinion. I feel like this book left me with more questions than were answered from the previous book which is clever of the author but also very annoying for me. The writing definitely improved in this book but sometimes I felt the storyline went off on a tangent that didn’t make sense to me but drew itself back on track quickly.
Definitely need to read book 3! Great job! 4 stars

🍒Fantasy books with female leads and challenges, along with budding romance is everything I want in a good book, hehe. I'm a fantasy lover and I was searching for a good book when I got my hands on this amazing read which not just shocked me in all possible ways but it's very gripping and kept me on my seat throughout.

I remember picking this book just five days ago and I didn't wanna keep it because it's not just the fantasy that kept me hooked but, OMG, the language it's so good, the entire book felt like a two way conversation and I thought I was present with the characters and I myself is a part of the storyline. Author Moira is so good at character sketching that Ava and Aidan felt like my long lost people I know and they didn't feel like strangers. The transformation, connections, challenges, and the unpredictable plot made me love it so so much.

It's definitely a great read and I can't wait to read the second one by the author. It's definitely a well weaved story but not as complex, go for it. It's definitely recommended.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. I picked up the first book and read that before this. Again, I enjoyed the story. But I have to say this book was not proofread. Where the initial book needed editing, book 2 was rife with mistakes. It is really bad. I may be more sensitive to this because of what I do for a living; however, these errors were so numerous and throughout the whole book. I had to struggle to keep my sanity. I did enjoy the originality of the story and look forward to its conclusion.

This was even better than the first book! I could tell that there was some growth in the writing style and it flowed a lot more than the first book did. I really liked where the story was taken and all the little things that were discovered along the way. I am definitely loving the confusion between who her mate is, vs. the person that has been prophesized as a perfect pair for her. Though I don't understand why she keeps going back to Aidan!! He is way too controlling and not in the good way that us book girlies like (although I do have to at least recognize that the reason he does this was kinda valid because when she gets her memories back there is an explanation).

The one thing that was prevalent through out the book was spelling mistakes. I would think that the publisher and editor would have looked at that more thoroughly. It isn't something that really bugs me, but I know that it can be a major turn off for some readers. I had the physical copy so I am not sure if any digital copies would be different.

Overall, I am so excited about where this series is going and I am UPSET at the cliff hanger LOL. Now I am just waiting to hear back from Moira about when the next book is coming out!!!

I won this book in a giveaway. First of all, when I received it and started reading it I was completely confused until I realized that it is a sequel. I bought the first book and read them both. Romance novels are really not my preference for reading material but this one had paranormal aspects so it did keep my interest throughout. These are not read alone novels and so if you don't like cliffhangers then these are not for you. The biggest reason for the three star rating was because of the truly bad (or lack of any) editing. Some of the grammatical errors were just hard to ignore. Seriously, there are multiple grammar programs out there and there is just no excuse.

This book is even better than the 1st!

The first book sets up the scene and world for us. This book just dives right in.

There is no room for slowing down as you ride this action packed Rollercoaster. You will be sad, then happy, then frustrated and annoyed. You will be screaming, then happy and laughing again. Only to be even more confused with the actions of certain characters.

Hands down a great book that keeps you coming back for more, even if it leaves you with more questions left unanswered.
