Rate this book
At thirty-five, Mitchell Pierce has everything he’s ever wanted. An award-winning architect with his own firm, he collects expensive cars, owns a luxury ocean-front home, and a vacation condo on San Padre Island.

The only thing intruding on his idyllic life is the realization that the majority of his closest friends have married, and had children, which seriously impacts his Sunday football parties with the guys.

Haley Charles is the newly hired project manager at Pierce and McKenna, Architects, one of the city’s most prestigious firms. At twenty-eight, she’s the youngest member of the management team, and determined to make a good impression on the bosses.

When a rush request comes in from one of the firms most valued clients, Mitch has to cover for his honeymooning partner. With the majority of the staff already assigned to ongoing jobs, he finds himself working overtime with the new, and disturbingly attractive, project manager.

Will the late nights and a few shared kisses have him rethinking his bachelor status? Or, is he truly going to be ‘the last man standing’?

RED HAIR—GREEN EYES—AND FRECKLES

The story is part of a new contemporary series of clean stories. As the name applies, ‘Last Man Standing,’ involves a group of men, when only one is left who hasn’t married. In this case, it is one of the owners of Pierce and McKenna, Architects, Mitchell ‘Mitch’ Pierce.

At the wedding of Brad McKenna to Jody, Mitch will give his speech that brings about plenty of laughter. He will remind them that they have all fallen, leaving him the last man standing and the winner.

“I’ll always consider Brad to be close to perfect. However, falling in love with Jody has made him an even better man. And, whether she realizes it or not, she’s also helped me win a rather sizeable bet. One that Brad, Mike, Jason, Steve, and I made years ago. That will be five bucks and one pack of Transformer’s 1985 G1 Trading Cards each. Because you, Brad—and the three who fell before you—have made me ‘the last man standing’, and I intend to collect.”

The story begins with newly hired project manager, Haley Charles, beginning her new job at Pierce and McKenna, one of the city’s most prestigious architectural firms. Haley’s reputation is what cemented the job—but there will be things said and overheard that will lead to doubts. It doesn’t take long for Haley to prove her value to the company and garner the respect of her coworkers and those in the field.

The story’s plot will have Mitch shocked when he meets the new project manager hired by Brad before he leaves for his honeymoon. Haley proves that she is knowledgeable in her field and an asset to the company. The company has rules on coworkers dating, and she never intends to cross that line. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t find her new boss, Mitch, attractive. Mitch is shocked by his attraction to Haley and must guard his actions, especially when she is cautious of any unwarranted speculations by anyone else.

I liked the characters, their interactions, and the angst that they experience. Mitch has respect for Haley but also realizes he is attracted to her—something he normally avoids. Overhearing a conversation leads to hurt feelings and makes her question her position within the company. Is she part of an office joke? Has the relationship that has been developing between her and Mitch a farce?

Great first book in the Last Man Standing series. Mitch is the boss at a respected architectural firm. Haley is a young project manager. The no-dating policy is fine by her as she has no plans to snag her a man anytime soon. Her career is her current focus. But when Haley and Mitch meet and start working together, they both want to throw that rule right out the window. Once they get past misconceptions and misunderstood conversations, they'll find a way to have their happy ever after. A sweet quick read!

Fantastic story about working in 'the trades'!!

Having worked in the construction field in various jobs in my past, I loved this book. There is something magical about making lines on a sheet of paper become walls and floors, windows and doors reality. The building trades is really only recently been opening up to women entering the field, and it is nice to see a story that is depicting that.

The characters in this book are great, honestly believable. They work hard to learn new skills to improve their product. They treat their family, friends, coworkers and clients with respect and consideration.

I really loved the banter between characters. It was sharp, witty, intelligent and on character. And the description of Haley's red rainboots with the googly-eyed yellow duckies was priceless, ... not to mention her customized harhat and pink construction boots.

I received an ARC copy of this story directly from the author and voluntarily chose to share my review.

Haley begins working as a project manager at Mitch's architecture firm. There's a rigid policy against employee fraternization, but she's not there to snag a husband. Even though he's the last of his friends to still be single, he's not looking for a wife. And that's when love hits you over the head... As they spend long hours together, feelings begin to develop. With wonderful characters and an engaging story, it was fun to watch this last man fall. I received a copy of this book from the author, and this is my honest review.

Mitch was a terrific read! He’s dead set against romance until one of his friends creates a perfect scenario for him to take a fall. A bet starts that Haley is the one. When she finds out, the fallout is huge. I enjoyed Haley’s strong-willed determination and Mitch’s internal struggle with change. They really click as a couple. I think romance readers, especially those that enjoy sweet romance, will really enjoy this story. I highly recommend this book.
