4.5 Blood Debt Stars

Holy Hotness Batman! This story was soooooo freakin' hot, enemy2lovers, arraigned marriage, organized crime, blood debt that needs to be paid, BDSM, non-con and dubious con, etc. It was off the charts HOT and DARK in equal measures.

Please know before going into this story that the author has a prequel for this book as part of the UNDERWORLD KINGS SERIES called THE WEDDING DEBT and while this can be read as a standalone I highly recommend reading the novella before this book that way you get the full background of Luca and Jill's story.

This review is a bit tricky to write because if I set this book up it spoils the first book and I don't want to do that so all I'm going to say is that this book will have you at the edge of your seat with all of the action going on both in the bedroom and out of it. A few tall glasses of ice water or heck have your BOB around if this type of book gets your motor running because the kink level is high.

The story flowed nicely and there was a couple of major twists some you may pickup on some may surprise you, either way you'll be in for one heck of a ride.

If you enjoy Mafia Romances, Dark Romances, Enemies to Lovers Romances, Arraigned Marriage Romances, or BDSM Romances I would recommend this book to you.

Happy Reading!!!

EXCERPT

“Good morning, sir,” the receptionist says. “I hope your wedding went well.”
“It was perfect, thank you,” I respond.
“Not the woman I presumed you would come home with,” she adds.
“No, I’m her sister,” Jill sneers. “I hate his guts and only married him to save her.”
The receptionist laughs. “Sounds like you’ll have your hands full with this one, sir.”
“Oh, yes … I definitely will,” I reply, pushing Jill toward the elevator.
She looks wholly confused as we step inside. “Why doesn’t she care?”
Grabbing her arms, I pull her close right before the doors shut. “Jill, do you think I wouldn’t take precautions?” I lift her chin with my index finger. “I own everyone who works here.”
She swallows, visibly shaken by the power I hold.
“And now, I own you.”
I lean in and attempt to kiss her again, but she turns her head, denying me.
So I grab her waist and shove her against the elevator wall, not allowing her a second to breathe as I invade her space, planting my hand against the wall right beside her head. “Deny me, fight me, I don’t care, but I will have what I want.”
There’s disdain in her eyes, the kind that fills me with seething hatred. Not for her but for myself. Because a part of me, a long time ago, wanted so desperately for her to desire me.
But I no longer need that anymore. “Submit to me, and maybe I won’t destroy you.”
She looks up at me from underneath her lashes. “I will never bow down to you.”
A vicious smile spreads on my face. “You seem to be under the impression you have a choice.” I plant another hand against the wall behind her. “My ring is on your finger. You are my wife, Jill, from now until the day we die. And do you know what comes with that?” I push her chin up again to meet my gaze. “Marital duties.”
Her eyes widen.
The doors open.
And in a split second, she decides to make a run for it.
I don’t know where she got the idea she could escape.
But if she wants a chase so badly … she can have one.

This book had me quickly and firmly wrapped in its fierce and twisted grip. Luca and Jill's story is a real adrenaline rush for the reader. The story and emotions are INTENSE!! A sinfully seductive combo of raw feels, drama, tension, scorching steam, thrilling action, nerve-stretching suspense, secrets and edge-pushing darkness make for a juicy and brutally potent tale that had me completely consumed and left me breathless. This is my elective, objective review.

This novel was written for me. Everything I love about a hero is possessive, jealous and psycho-obsessed with his heroine!! He was insanely obsessed with being first and last in everything for the heroine.
This is the second book. First you need to read

The heroine had no one but the hero, only in the prequel does she kiss the hero's older brother because she thinks she's in love with him. The hero is not a virgin, he says that he used to have girls and they were a bad substitute, because he always wanted and loved the heroine. This is not mentioned, but I think that while the heroine was on the run, he also had girls, before the escape, the hero gave the heroine her first kiss and orgasm, without penetration, that is, she remains a virgin. After they get married, the hero has no one and he only thinks about the heroine.
Dramma is that the hero is constantly jealous of the heroine, to all men! especially to her brother, because initially the heroine was supposed to marry him and the hero was always sure that she only loved his brother.

Well.. I am still unsure how to rate this one. At some moments, I kinda enjoyed it yet there came times where I went tf am I reading? And why am I reading this?

I would say though that it has been QUITE a while since I calmly sat down and finished a full length in one reading, because honestly, all the books in the 'dark' genre have epic blurbs, however, when it comes to the content, substance and deliverance of the story, all of them are pretty much the same, and hence boring.

Extremely boring.

And this one was more or less the same.

I didn't hate it per se but I did NOT love it. It's the same song and dance, the same old one-note narrative going on, it's all bang bang and bye.

Only closer to the end did things get a tad refreshing between the couple.

Also what's y'all's obsession with writing long, tedious and drawn out scenes?

There's this one preposterousness of a scene where I read nothing but characters screaming each other's names. YES, I AM NOT KIDDING.
I almost scream laughed.

I am actually surprised not a single editor or beta reader told the author that bestie this scene literally ain't making no sense, it's just plain screaming and thought 'yep this is perfect, let it be!'

These long scenes get really boring and oh do they make me lose my mind and focus.

Anyway, it was an okay read.

Book 1 had good chemistry and it was kinda angsty. This, book 2, had none of that.

I also didn’t care for this authors writing style. I found it too simplistic as if this book was translated from another language. The author is also not very descriptive, so you dont feel like you’re in the story, but just reading text.
Book was boring.

- he’s suppose to be in love and obsessed with the h, and yet, he had no trouble fucking ow before her, and after her during their 3 yr separation, while she remained completely celibate.

- Before she ran away, he was her first kiss, he fingered her, and fucked her with the back end of a knife and gave her her first orgasm. She remained a virgin.

- h has short hair, bob with bangs.

MCs are both 21yrs old. I can’t take any guy this young seriously as a tough mafia guy. Oh pahlease. 🙄

Another sexist author.

The childhood obsession continues. Luca finally gets Jill his run away bride. He locks her in her room . He’s crazy obsessed with her. I liked this book but the language/ style of writing read as though it was translated from
Another language. Also as seems to have been happening to me a lot lately … it was so good for the first half and fizzled out from then on. HEA seemed secondary to the set up for the next book.

Jill has returned after three years hiding in order to save her sister from misery.
Luca wanted her for his wife but chose her sister to lure her back which works.
Since she chooses to swap places she must handle everything Luca wishes to do to her.
Luca wants to break this woman and make her submissive only to him.
He must own her and hate seems to be the only emotion both can feel.
She is the reason his brother died and he must have his revenge.

This is a story that made my jaw drop constantly with its intensity, unpredictability, bloodplay and dominance.
There is a heart pounding twist that I could never have foreseen that definitely kicks the adrenaline up to lethal amounts.
Both of their hearts were off the table but we soon see them thaw and get involved.
This man is not as cold and cruel as he portrays and both fight their urges.
Jill is constantly trying to believe he may be what she once knew but he shows her his worst parts.
This was a perfect mafia romance with brillaint pace and a creative intelligence that drew me in.
This author knew exactly how to spin this and how to keep the reader transfixed on the drama.
There may be some triggers for some but I found every bit of darkness eventually turns into light.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

“The wedding debt” is a novella that doesn’t need to be read as most of the chapters have a few flash backs but I’d recommend reading it to get the full effect of Luca and Jill’s hate for each other.

I loved Luca’s feelings towards Jill, it wasn’t hate, but it wasn’t love. It was literal OBSESSION, Jill so oblivious and consumed by the family feud and hate there families have towards each other and once she releases. It’s the best from there.

There were words and scenes that were so repetitive bc Jill just DIDNT UNDERSTAND AND NOT GET THE HINTS LUCA would give her and ERRRKKKKED me to no end. Jill is forced to marry Luca and Luca couldn’t be more eager for it, there family feud and secrets, lies goes beyond that it’s typically very original it that didn’t stop me from reading it and deter my excitement towards it. It GOTS SPICE and I was here for it 😌

DNF @ 70% mark

I just didn't feel their chemistry. And for me the book just seemed to drag on. I found myself constantly taking breaks.

Found Jill to be annoying and snarky. I didn't care for her character at all. She wanted to be free and escape. Yet she was constantly spitting on Luca, telling him how much she hated him, trying to kill him. One would think she would have tried to get him to drop his guard so she could take her sister and run. I found most of her chapters to be rather repetitive. Even when her character flipped and she started to warm and care for Luca, she still sucked.

I liked Luca, he was intense, a kinky s.o.b. 🥵😳 🥵

Well that was steamy! Dark mafia, enemies to lovers, arrangement romance, and good intermix of dubcony kinkiness- tropes that all get the engine running. Clariss always knows how to light the page on fire, and the Marriage Debt certainly delivers in this department- all the spicy fun.

While this can be read as a standalone, I’d highly recommend reading the prequel novella the Wedding debt prior to this story- it gives a much appreciated backstory and nuance to these characters’ connections, and introduces a lot of complexity that I think makes the story more rich and sets up the push-pull dynamic that plays out for much of this story.

For the most part, there is a lot here to enjoy- we have strong character chemistry, some engaging mafia content, a few twists, and lots of angst thanks to both the arranged marriage situation and a complicated sibling rivalry. Luca as our dark mafioso has that alpha edginess I enjoy and when paired with his life-long obsession with Jill makes him a delicious anti-hero. And the story set up had me hooked. Unfortunately, it didn’t always deliver. There were times the story dragged for me a bit- the pace really stalled in places and the romantic content at times even felt redundant between these two characters. There’s a lot of good moments her for sure, and many I enjoyed, it just felt a bit too drawn out. The plot itself isn’t overly complicated or immersive, so it may have accentuated the repetitive dynamics between Luca and Jill. And additionally there are inconsistencies (motives or timing) - those themselves felt minor and didn’t impact my enjoyment. The steam, however, is through the roof and the star of the show- Clarissa knows how to melt hearts and panties, so that alone made this story a great read. All in all, I did enjoy parts of this story and loved the characters, so a great dark mafia read for those BDSM, forced marriage, mafia lovers.

The nerve of me to have expected some actual plot in this book... Tsk tsk.
It was erotica through and through.

Also, what's up with this 'Ten minutes ago' and 'Twenty minutes ago' story timeline?! It just seems very sloppy and lazy narration to me. The author might have done an alright job on the steamy scenes, but the writing quality seems to be thrown out the window.

4.5 Marriage Debt Stars🌟

The Marriage Debt is the second book in the duet of Luca and Jill🤩 Jill decides she’s going to leave her safe confines at the end of the first book to save her sister when she discovers that Jasmine is to marry Luca because she ran off a few years ago….a debt which needs to be repaid😢

As expected this book had some twists and turns of which I suspected one of them and it’s a whooper😳 A really good story with some kinky moments between Luca and Jill🤩

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review and I hope the author has something in the works for Jill’s sister Jasmine❣️

Loved Luca!
The h was a lot of times annoying BUT they truly are meant to be together, they are perfect for each others.
I loved and adored how ott and possessive Luca was with her even since they were little, i highly suggest everyone to read the prequel of this book to have the full picture of their past, so you can understand why they ''hate ' each others so much in the present.
I didn't agree a lot of times with this h but at the same time i get her, but i still felt bad for Luca.
I'm glad she understand pretty fast in the past that what she thought she felt for Liam it's nothing compared to Luca, also, mind you, she had a teenager/kid crush, also Luca pretty much made her like his brother more being a little bully with her, but he did that because he liked her and hated seeing her liking his brother xD , so yeah typical teenagers stuffs.

Luca saved the day every time anyway, i kinda wished he was only with her...but at the same time she did hurt him, but i'm truly happy all her experiences are with him only.
Even the freaking kiss she had with Liam was worth it, she saw for herself that nothing compares to Luca ,loved the fact that he was mad even if he saw she was disgusted right after the kiss xD

Anyway can't wait for Liam's book.

Content warning:

Dislikes:

It was repetitive at times. I like choking as much as the next gal, but it felt like he was grabbing her throat to show his dominance in every other paragraph. Jill ran away multiple times and talked about running away a million times, give or take. It got redundant after a certain point and I was hoping for a new plotline.

The guards were AWFUL at their job. How am I meant to believe this is one of the most powerful mafia empires in the Netherlands when the guards are that bad? It was honestly laughable.

The idea of Luca becoming the head of the mafia. I just don’t see it. This is the same guy who spared a man who had killed many of his men because his wife asked him to. While readers might find it cute and honorable, the mafia sure doesn’t. I find it incredibly hard to believe that they would respect and follow Luca after that call considering they are not “forgive and forget” people.

Jill wasn’t even a little upset that Luca used Jasmine as bait, which made no sense considering most of her motives and decisions revolved around her sister in some way. Throughout the story, we’re told that Jill would do anything for Jasmine. Heck, the only reason she married Luca was so that Jasmine wouldn’t have to. She loves Jasmine more than anyone in the world, yet the thought of her almost dying didn’t phase her?? It didn’t fit her characterization.

Luca’s mother’s characterization was inconsistent. For example, when she went to see Luca in the hospital, she was visibly worried about him (which makes sense) AND Jill (which doesn’t make sense). She was supposed to hate Kill because she “killed” her other son, Liam. Furthermore, the mother was told that Jill was almost the reason for Luca’s death as well. Why does she all of a sudden care about the woman who was nearly responsible for both of her sons’ deaths? It was never explained.

Likes:

The introduction. The wedding was wild and I loved every second of it. SO MUCH happened. Jill interrupted Luca and Jasmine’s wedding to try to convince Luca to take her instead, the bridesmaid holds her hand over Jasmine’s mouth so she’d be unable to ruin the wedding (LOL), Jill trying to kill Luca with his own gun only to realize there are no bullets (uh oh), the eventual marriage, etc.
“Jill, do you take this man to be your husband, to live together in holy matrimony, to love him, to honor him, to comfort him, and to keep him in sickness and in health, forsaking all others, for as long as you both shall live?”
Jill grinds her teeth and gazes at her parents, who do nothing but stoically stare ahead.
“We’re waiting,” I say, raising a brow at her. Too fucking late for second thoughts. I pull out my gun and point it as Jasmine’s head. The entire room gasps. “Say it,” I say through gritted teeth.
“I…do.”

Luca. Outwardly, he’s kinky, dominating, cruel and obsessive. Once you get to know him, you realize he’s just a boy that wants to be loved, not that he’d ever admit.

Jill. She’s defiant, will do anything for those she loves and will remain sassy until the bitter end.

Lita. She is the sweetest thing ever! Definitely the best side character. Also, our names are basically the same, which makes her extra special to mua.

The snarky banter was fun and entertaining.
“Fuck you.”
“Oh, I
will do that.”
“Over my dead body.”
“I’ve killed men for less.”

Luca’s interrogation. He forced orgasms out of her to get information. Is there a better method when it comes to getting answers? I think not.
“Are you ready to tell me who fucked you?” She shakes her head, but I can see the hesitation in her eyes. “Fine. More.” One. Two. Three. Four. Five. More and more orgasms follow, but I’m not done yet. Not even as the tears roll down her cheeks from all the climaxes she’s endured. “Tell me who your boyfriend was,” I say, my tongue twirling around her red and swollen clit.

The sex scenes. This book features knifeplay, aggressive blowjobs, collars, leashes and ✨anal.✨ To say the least, it was hot.
“Fuck you,” I hiss even though my clit is throbbing with need from the way he fucks my ass.
“Oh, the naughty girl is finally back to play. Tell me how much you hate me then. It only turns me on.” Suddenly, he grabs my hair and forces me to look at him through the mirror. “Look at me while I ride you, Jill. Look at me while I own this fucking asshole.”
“I hate you.”
He smirks and slaps my ass so hard I squeal. “It’s easier to fuck you when you do.”

He rescued a bunny for her when they were 14 and kept it through the years!!!!!! Are you swooning? Because I am. That is cute AF.

Recommendation: The Collateral Damage duet by Natasha Knight. Personally, I didn’t like the books because they involved a middle-aged man abusing and manipulating his almost-child of a wife, but there are a few similarities between those books and this one, so someone who liked one would probably like the other (I think), hence the recommendation. They’re both dark, mafia romances that feature anti-heroes, virgin heroines, an arranged marriage, the revenge trope, dub-con, plot twists and ✨anal scenes.✨ Also, they’re both told in dual perspectives, if I remember correctly. Happy reading! :)

Luca and Jill's story... I was excited to read their story because I really liked the synopsis and the cover but I ended up being bored and struggling to finish this one... There was a re-petitions of specific words and phrases, that got on my nerves. Additionally, some descriptions gave the impression that was there just for the "shock" factor...

The Marriage Debt is the second book in the De Vos Mafia series. I didn't read the first book, so this was my introduction to the characters. I didn't feel like I was missing anything, but I plan to read the first book in this series. The Marriage Debt follows the story of Luca and Jill, both part of the mafia world. Luca is set to take the reins of one of the most powerful mafia empires, and Jill is a mafia princess. Luca has had his eyes on Jill for years, but she never shared the same feelings. Making matters worse, Jill was promised to his brother Liam. When there is an unfortunate accident resulting in Liam's death, Jill is blamed, forcing her to go into hiding. When Luca is set to marry Jill's younger sister, Jill comes out of hiding and marries Luca instead. I enjoyed this story so much! The twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat. This delicious, dark, bully romance is a wild ride from start to finish. The chemistry between Luca and Jill, push and pull, banter, tension, and heat kept me reading/listening.

Narration:
This audiobook was an experience, with sound effects and all! M.K. Blackwood and Gideon Frost did a phenomenal job portraying the characters. They brought the story to life and made me feel all the emotions this story elicits. M.K. gave a voice to the naive but fierce and strong Jill, and Gideon did a great job providing a voice to the possessive, powerful, dangerous, and broody Luca. They were the perfect duo for this story, and their performances elevated my listening experience.

Thanks to Clarissa Wild and Sparks Fly Studios for the gifted audiobook. Opinions expressed are my own.

Listen up, bookworms! The Marriage Debt by Clarissa Wild is about to be your new obsession just like how Jill is Luca’s obsession! 👀

This mafia romance is set in the Netherlands and it's giving major dark, steamy vibes. We've got Luca, this totally unhinged mafia heir who's hot AF, and Jill, a badass mafia princess who's all "nope" at first.

The plot? Wild from start to finish. You think you know what's coming, but trust me, you don't. The chemistry between Luca and Jill is straight-up explosive. Their banter? Chef's kiss. And don't even get me started on the spicy scenes - they're hot enough to melt your e-reader or ear-buds!

Trope alert! We've got:
🐰Enemies to lovers
🐰BDSM
🐰Knife play
🐰Mafia vibes
🐰Dark romance
🐰Billionaire
🐰Virgin FMC
🐰Arranged marriage
🐰Suspense
🐰Possessive MMC

If audiobooks are your jam, the duet narration by M.K. Blackwood and Gideon Frost is chef's kiss. Seriously, these two knocked it out of the park! Gideon's voice? Made for possessive dark men like Luca. He brings all that dangerous, brooding energy to life, and you'll be weak in the knees. And M.K.? Her voice is like velvet, smooth and captivating. She nails Jill's fierce attitude and vulnerable moments. Together, they create pure audio magic, bringing every steamy scene and tense moment to life. It's so good you'll want to hit replay immediately.

Bottom line? If you're into dark, passionate mafia romances that'll have you clutching your pearls one minute and fanning yourself the next, The Marriage Debt is your next must-read. It's a wild ride from start to finish, and I am here for it!

Until Jill comes back into my arms on our wedding day...Begging me to marry her instead. It's a dream come true for a depraved sinner like me. Jill Baas-the runaway bride-mine to mark, own taint. My wife. I'll put a ring on her fingers...And turn her world into a living nightmare.

The Marriage Debt is a dark romance and the second book in this series. You will want to read the Wedding Debt first. You will also want to heed the warnings from the author in the beginning of the book.
It will not take you long at all to be hooked on this book. I was within the first few pages and I didn't lay it down until I was finished. This is the story of Luca and Jill and man what a thrill ride of a story this one was. These two are all fiery passion and it gets intense and like your experiencing everything you are reading right along with them. This is an arranged marriage through a blood debt that needs to be paid and Lucas only has eyes for Jill. But she doesn't have them so much for him and runs. He is what I would call obsessed with her really and I can't say that I wouldn't have run either. No matter what though Luca will have her, even if that means him marrying her sister. Let the twists and turns begin and you might wanna buckle up and make sure you kindle doesn't catch on fire. This is one of the hottest books I have read in the while.

Overall Opinion :
The marriage genre is definitely one of my top reads and No one does it better than Clarissa does. Her characters just draw you in like nothing I have ever seen before and then one moment you are busy hating them and the next you are rooting for them lol .

The same thing happened with Luca and Jill in this book. This one is a dark romance standalone but the storyline was amazing and the ending wrapped it up all nicely for me. There are a lot of triggers like the author has mentioned so make sure to go through them before picking this one up.

Defnitely recommended this one to all the dark romance loving people out there!

Misunderstandings, twists & HEA!

The Marriage Debt follows in the aftermath of what happened in the final event of The Wedding Debt, Luca and Jill's journey to an excruciantingly earned HEA.
This is a story of Luca's young passion, obssesion, life expectations, family diferentiation, an arduous fight to prove his value and capacity in being the right heir to his family criminal empire. Jill is innocense and good faith, the sacricial lamb to mantain the peace between the families after the accident and the somewhat forced bride (for lack of options) to the boy who once used to be her tormentor and the adrenaline that made her heart beat erratically at the very same time. Fallen goals, misunderstandings, denial, discovery, intimacy, back and forths, recognition and big surprises make this enemies-to-lovers narrative flow direct and firm, but I would have had enjoyed it more if the the time apart were more extensive and the characters more mature. I felt that, at times, we were seeing kids trying too hard to be adults. Their time together had a lot of anticipation, some kink and h.o.t. developments that I really liked.

Wow just wow if Luka isn't just the optimum of Bad Alpha who turns to Moosh for the right girl. And that right girl just happens to be Jill. Growing up in a mafia family these two families come together with the hopes of Jill and Lukas brother Liam marrying since they are both the eldest of their family's only Luka no matter what can't stop what he feels for Jill so being kids he torments her just to be around her and not always saying nice things cos well Boys aren't nice to girls they sure don't show their feelings, yet when Lukas brother dies in an accident that Jill lives through sets into motion revenge for Lukas family.
Once Luka has his ring on Jill's finger he can not stop his heart from wanting her to just see HIM..yet all Jill can think is he is a monster who tormented her until he shows her the one thing that reveals his true feelings for his Bunny.
Loved this story even though Luka was a tough nut he was always sweet to Jill and when some shocks are revealed it most certainly makes for a sweet ending.

Ms. Wild has a prequel for this book as part of the UNDERWORLD KINGS SERIES called THE WEDDING DEBT and while this can be read as a standalone I highly recommend reading the novella before this book that way you get the full background of Luca and Jill's story.

Luca De Vos, has followed in his father's footsteps. He knows how to run the family & the business. He knows what is expected of him. He knows he has to get Jill back. After knowing her for years he knows she's the only one for him.

Jill Baas, she ran away from Luca at the end of The Wedding Debt. But, she came back once she found out who Luca was to marry instead of her 3 yrs later. Jill isn't scared of Luca, she just wanted out of this life - as it was how she grew up. She's known Luca for years now, and knows the harm he can do.

Will Jill & Luca be able to come to actual speaking terms with each other? Or will they just fight and yell and be horrible to one another the rest of their lives?

I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.
