Rate this book
A curvy businesswoman who’s new in town + a lonely griffin shifter searching for someone to share his nest + a small town with a big secret = a hot and heartwarming story of love and family.

Lainie Eaves never wanted to return to Hideaway Cove, the small town where her own family rejected her years ago. When she inherits the family estate, she decides to sell the crumbling old mansion and leave her painful history where it belongs: in the past. Then she meets Harrison, and her world turns upside down.

Lonely griffin shifter Harrison Galway thought he’d found paradise when he moved to Hideaway Cove, where shifters can live without having to hide their true natures. But when his mate Lainie walks into his life, he discovers that paradise comes at a price too high to pay.

Fifteen years ago, Lainie’s grandparents made a choice that tore her family apart forever, but Lainie never knew the reason: that she wasn’t born a shifter. Now she’s finally found someone who might fill that hole in her heart—at the cost of everything else he holds dear. Hideaway Cove is a sanctuary for shifters, and that means no humans allowed.

Can Lainie let go of her painful memories, and make a fresh start? Or will Harrison be forced to leave the only place where he's ever been welcome to live with the woman he loves?

Too much insta-love for my preference. The hero and heroine meet, get it on immediately and then profess their love within 2 days. there was no relationship or character building at all. very predictable and over used plot as well. At least it was offered as a kindleunlimited.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!

The cover is beautiful and I wouldn’t mind visiting!

This is a book that is not a series that I’m aware of. I bought it because I do most of Zoe’s books. This is for adults only due to the steamy content.

Zoe’s books always make me smile and happy to read. I’m a sucker for happy endings, and she always has a great mix of action and drama to keep you hooked.

Harrison is my favorite in this book because he stands for what he believes in and tries to make things better even if it is for a human. Lainie has bad memories of Hideaway Cove, but she is determined to take care of business and be brave.
I loved this book!

I highly recommend to any shifter fan especially if you already love Zoe’s work!

This one was ok, not my favourite from this author. I think that was mainly due to the h, she was, I think, a tad on the whiney side, poor me, poor me, and a bit of a doormat! I felt is she had a bit more of a back bone, it may have made her more likeable.
The H was super sweet but I feel didn't really stick up for the h when he could have, he did in the end which was something I guess.
The secondary characters didn't really interest me. I did like the world building of the town of just shifter. The end was very sweet. A quick easy read overall.
I received and ARC copy with no obligation to leave my honest review.

I love this book and would read it again..💜💜

Harrison cleared his throat again. For the first time in months, Lainie saw he looked nervous. “Lainie,” he began, and stopped, choking up. “Lainie. My love. The last six months, since I met you, have been the happiest of my life. Building this house for you has been the best thing I’ve ever done. Will you take this ring, and together we can turn this house into a home?” Lainie fell to her knees. The box Harrison was holding out to her was black velvet, and there was a glittering ring nestled inside it. A cushion-cut diamond, ridiculously large, was set in warm rose-gold in the middle of the ring, surrounded by smaller yellow stones. Her grandmother’s ring. “But I sold this,” she breathed. “How did you…?” The laughter lines at the edges of Harrison’s eyes crinkled. “You sold it to me,” he said. “Well, through one of Pol’s contacts, at least. He’s going to use it as an excuse to turn up late to work for the next ten years, but that’s worth it, if…” He trailed off expectantly. Lainie reached forward and grabbed, not the ring, but the hand holding it. “Of course I do,” she said. “I mean, yes. I do. Of course,” she cried, laughing with joy. Harrison slipped the ring out of the box and onto her finger, where it fit perfectly. The sight of it filled Lainie’s heart. She had lost the chance at a relationship with her grandmother, but this ring was a connection between the generations. A promise that things would be different for her own children, when she had them. Harrison covered her small hand with his own, and then pulled her into a kiss that made her heart sing. “My love,” Harrison murmured against her lips. “My Lainie. My mate. My darling, sweetest, most beautiful…” His kisses began to drift down her neck, and Lainie giggled. “Do we want to take this inside?” she said. “Into the nest?” She didn’t know what made her call the house a nest¸ but whatever instinct it was, it was a good one. Harrison’s eyes burned into hers, gold flaring around pupils as black as coals. “There isn’t any furniture in there yet,” he said, his hands slipping under Lainie’s shirt. “Are you sure you don’t want to go back to the workshop?” “We can improvise,” Lainie said, waving away his half-hearted argument. “Come on. Let’s make this place our home.”

Audiobook narrated ny Kat Riley and Ash Beverly
Lainie Eaves returns to Hideaway Cove after the death of her grandparents. She’s inherited the family house, but, being human, she knows nothing about shifters, which is a bit unfortunate as it turns out. She needs to see what's left of her inheritance, a crumbling house and a missing fortune in jewels. She doesn't know the cove and doesn't know that it's a sanctuary for shifters, having been sent away when it became obvious that she was 100% human. Then she meets Harrison Galway, a carpenter/builder when in human form - and also a griffin shifter. The premise is that shifters instantly recognise their one true mate - and Harrison sees Lanie and 'knows'. The rest plays out as you might expect with a spiteful member of the shifter community trying to eject Lanie from the town. These Hideaway Cove books guarantee a happy ending so I needn't outline the plot. It's lightweight, and at 4 hours 49 minutes, is a quick listen. The readers make a decent job of it.

I thought that this book was really enjoyable!

It was a little slow to start but it was still a really good read.

I thought that the characters were well developed, they gelled well together and I really liked getting to know more about them as the book progressed.

It is 4 stars from me for this one, I really enjoyed it!

Short and sweet, the heroine sometimes got on my nerves a little bit, but I thought it was cute and funny. Not heavy on the spice, definitely steamy though.

What a wonderful start to the Hideaway Cove series. I was really impressed how the author wrote this story making the “human” the one everyone was against. It really made you think. I loved it.

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
Hideaway Cove is a community just for shifters + that only shifters reside.
The only human you will find will be tourist.
There is a reason for that.
Any human that wants to live there is strongly "encouraged" to find a new home somewhere.
Lainie never knew the real reason why her grandparents rejected her.
Harrison took one look at Lainie and knew that she was his mate.
I was glad that in the end Lainie did the right thing + did not allow the town to dictate her actions.
Loved the HEA

Love, mates and secrets

I loved, loved this book. The storyline was imaginative, the characters relatable, and the writing engaging all of which completely drew me into this world. It had the perfect balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, intrigue, and spice. It gave me all the swoony swoons while also pulling at my heartstrings with all the emotions. It’s definitely a warm hug of a book. Lainie is a human who spent summers in Hideaway Cove with her paternal grandparents and parents. The summer when she turned 15, her grandparents basically kicked her out of the town and forbid her from coming back. Shortly thereafter, her parents got divorced and her father disappeared. She is back in Hideaway Cove to deal with her grandparents estate since she’s the only remaining heir. Harrison is a builder and a rare Griffin shifter who lives in Hideaway Cove. Hideaway Cove is a shifter friendly town and the shifters hide their abilities when the rare human comes to town but they are not human friendly. When Harrison first sees Lainie he realizes she’s his mate but there are some hurdles to get to their HEA including baggage unpacking, truth telling, and life course correcting. I cannot wait to read more stories set in this town.

Hideaway Cove is a small town full of a variety of shapeshifters. Lainie Eaves never wanted to return there after she and her mom were told one summer by her grandparents to never return. After that summer, her parents divorced and her father disappeared. Lainie never wanted to return but due to her father's disappearance, Lainie inherits the Eaves family home so she finds her way back. When Griffin shifter, Harrison Galway, sees Lainie he knows she's his mate and is determined to keep her there. However, there's one town member who doesn't want humans in town even if they're family members and it's she, along with her friends, who is behind Lainie and her mother being forced out of town when she was young. When Lainie learns the truth, she's angry and hurt but doesn't want Griffin to have to choose between her and the town. Griffin and his friends plan to change things in town and more people are behind them than expected.

This was an excellent read with both intrigue and romance. The characters are engaging and realistic while the book's well-written. I read this in one sitting and am eager to read the second book in what I hope will be a long series.

This started out good but lost me at about 50% or whenever Lainie is in the house and it starts collapsing conveniently. There is just too much going on for a novella. It also irritated me that the leads sleep together like 5 seconds after meeting. I have also come to the conclusion that I need to avoid books marketed as "curvy girl" romances. Reading this book actually helped me realize why I don't really care for them. It's because while there is body positivity for women (often only for the female lead) in these books the men are all always the stereotypical hot body type complete with a 6 pack and a huge penis. It just gets kind of grating when it's that same way repeatedly. Then again it might just be that I prefer that physical descriptions not be overly detailed so my brain can just picture whatever it wants to for the main characters. Either way books marketed as curvy girl romances are now on my do not read list.

Lainie and Harrison

Inheriting the property that had once belonged to her grandparents in Hideaway Cove, human Lainie Eaves is determined to sell, after all her family had abandoned her and her mother.
Harrison Galway knows that Lainie is his mate, but he’s a griffin shifter, and she is a human- and Hideaway Cove might be a sanctuary for shifters, but they’re not very friendly to humans as Lainie well knows.

This is a fairly quick read, with a handsome and personable griffin shifter male, and his fated human mate- who has been badly hurt by the members of his town.
This book introduces the denizens of Hideaway Cove, including some more single males in need of a mate!
It’s fast paced, with quite a bit of action despite the fact it isn’t a long book. The romance is instalove as befits fated mates, but not quite smooth sailing!
An enjoyable tale for PNR fans.

Cute little shifter romance.

Lainie comes back to Hideaway Cove after her grandparents passed to go through their effects -- grandparents that she had been estranged from since she was 11. Lainie doesn't know that it's a shifter-only town, leaving her with complicated feelings about being back. To add complication, local builder Harrison sees Lainie and realizes that she is his mate. They have to figure out how to deal with the old house and allow Lainie to stay when humans have historically not been allowed.

This was a shorter book with a little bit of drama, a little bit of danger, and a little bit of spice, though no major tension between the main couple beyond wondering if Lainie can or will stay. It's not going on my all-time favorites list but I did have a good time reading it.

This is a tale full of intrigue, hidden jewels and ultimately love , Lainie comes to Hidden Cove to settle her Grandmother's Estate, Harrison is a griffin shifter who is totally bowled over by finding out she's his mate. There are factions in town who would rather see her dead or gone before allowing her to move into the Cove or sell the land to "outsiders", meaning " non-shifters" like herself. This is a definite 4⭐ read of love, life, history, and bringinging the oast to light !! Loved it !! Hopefully Hidden Cove becomes a new series fir Zoe Chant as I'd like to see some of the other characters such as Arli, Pol and Tessa get their iwn stories. I received a gifted copy and am voluntarily choosing to leave an honest and unbiased review.

Redemption in Hideaway Cove

Returning to her grandparents estate after she inherits it, Lainie Eaves has bad memories of Hideaway Cove. She and her mother were expelled from this small community 15 years before and she still doesn't know why. She just wants to clear up her inheritance and return to her real life. Then she meets, tall, handsome and charming Harrison. He's the local handyman and builder and is set to help Lainie with her inheritance. Harrison is also a mythical Griffin shifter and Lainie is his mate. The small town is suppose to be a shifter mecca, but Harrison and Lainie soon decide to search out the real story. Lovely story of a woman learning the truth of her past through the love and support of a good man.

Cute little story that fits into a perfect niche; shifter romance....check.

The story was simple, the small town quaint. I felt like it would be better in a short story anthology book. I enjoyed the characters and story --but did not love them. Very intigued about the side characters and town, feeling that there may possibly be a larger ARC developing. The idea of a hidden shifter town is a great concept and I love that she has mythological shifters (ie: Griffin).

I will be reading the next one. I think as I read through them, I will enjoy them more knowing more of the characters and history. This book had a lot of people thrown in to introduce them but, the negative of that in a shorter book is that the characters were more one dimensional.

Lainie came back to Hideaway cove to settle family affairs after her grandmother passed. But bitter memories of her grandparents rejection and her parents separating and her father disappearing. Lainie live with the pain for many years never knowing why her happy childhood imploded one day. Harrison is a griffin shifter and when Lainie comes into town he recognizes her immediately as his mate. But Hideaway cove is a shifter sanctuary where they are free to live without fear of being discovered by the outside world. The town doesn’t have a human population and when Lainie comes to town Harrison realizes that is because some residents have taken it upon themselves to run every human out of town, even breaking up families to do so.

The Griffin's Mate

Zoe Chang does a great job with paranormal romance. This book is about a shifter town with a prejudice against humans. Her grandmother is gone and she inherits everything including her debts. He is a relative newcomer to the area, has been there for 8 years. He's a Griffin shifter who recognized her immediately as his mate. Together they find the Eaves jewels ,is able to pay off the debt, has a showdown with the Sweets and their bigoted crowd. The house is destroyed in a storm so they build the house of their dreams so they can live happily ever after.

This is Book 1 of a new series Hideaway Cove. Hideaway Cove is a small town along the coast where shifters live. Only shifters. Lainie once was a frequent visitor to Hideaway Cove, visiting her grandparents when she was a child. Until they no longer wanted her. Now she was back to settle the estate of her recently deceased grandmother. She met Harrison and the rest is left for the reader to discover. This is a fun book, the start of a great new series. Family, love, friendship, great characters and so much more. Zoe Chant is one of my "go to" authors when I need to escape (I currently own 36 and looking to add more).

I loved it. The heroine Lainie turned out to be such a compassionate person that one couldn't help loving her character. That Mrs. Sweet was such a sour puss though. I wonder if she was a crocodile shifter? hahaha. The Griffin shifting naked was a real hoot as just before this I read of a griffin shifting with his clothes. While reading of all those naked shifters on the beach during the confrontation with the Sweet fraction I kept wondering if they would be interrupted by a human and if they would scatter or the human would scream in shock but Ms. Chant kept the storyline in order, it was just my twisted sense of humour that wanted that chaos. 🤣

Amazing read!!!

Lainie has come back to Hideaway Cove after her grandmother's death to deal with her estate. Coming back has brought back memories both good and bad. But a strange turn of events turns an overnight visit into a future she's always wanted in the form of a griffin. This and every book that I've ever read by Zoe Chant is absolutely amazing!!! I highly recommend this story, with a HEA that is entertaining from start to finish. Well worth reading I promise you'll love it!

Brilliant Series

The Griffin’s Mate (Hideaway Cove Book 1) by Zoe Chant. Lainie was back in Hideaway Cove for the first time in 15 years. She was back to settle her grandmother’s estate. Griffin shifter Harrison has found sanctuary in Hideaway Cove where everyone is a shifter. Harrison’s knows as soon as he sees Lainie that she is his fated mate. Everyone in Hideaway Cove seems to be against her, as she tries to settle her grandparents estate, except Harrison or is he the only one?

The Griffin's Mate was so compulsively readable, kept me up until 3am to finish it in one sitting. I loved the two main characters so much, and I loved how they interacted with each other. The only thing that didn't work for me was the ending. The resolution for the main conflict felt rushed, and the sequence of events almost seemed out of order. Still, I'm very excited to delve into the sequel!

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

Lainie returned to Hideaway Cove almost fifteen years after she and her family had been kicked out of this beautiful slice of paradise along the coast. She never understood why her grandparents abandoned her, cut her off as though she never existed in the first place. Now, here she was once again in the place that held such conflicting emotions – happy memories overbalanced by the rejection of the family who was supposed to love her no matter what. Well, she had a purpose here. Check out the property that came to her through her grandmother’s death. Try to find the jewelry she knew was in that house or storage at one point – that was the only way to pay off the debts that came to her along with this unwanted house. A fast in and out trip – not one that would change her life forever.

Harrison was on his own once his parents died. He’d drifted from place to place, never staying long for fear of letting something slip about his true nature. As a griffin shifter, he was the embodiment of legend but he longed for a place where he could life as the shifter he was without any fear. He thought he’d found that when he settled in Hideaway Cove. And right up until this morning, he’d have told you that he’d spend his final day here. Right up until he sensed his mate. His human mate, and humans were never, ever encouraged to hang around Hideaway Cove for long.

Lainie and Harrison’s romance is mixed up with bits of anguish, a little bittersweet, happiness, anger, and justice. While discovering the man of her dreams, Lainie also discovers the true reason she was sent away from her grandparents so many years ago. And the sudden move to get her out of town once again. With Harrison at her side, they will overcome the past and make changes for the future.

I enjoyed The Griffin’s Mate very much. It’s sexy, heartbreaking and satisfying. I really hope that we get to meet up with some of the residents of Hideaway Cove again in the future. So many interesting secondary characters that I would love to see get their unique tales told… maybe one day.

If you’re looking for a fast, fun read with a good solid story and interesting characters then this is one that should be on your reading list.

I read this story through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Interesting Read

This story was different from what I have read by this author. I have not come close to reading all her books so maybe it was just something I have not encountered before. There was no action in the book, and while it was a romance, the story was not all about the romance. It was more about family and community issues, fear and prejudice. It was quite interesting. The book was not dramatic, more enlightening. And the romance was good too.

Heartwarming

There can never be enough praise for a Zoe Chant book. Great, fantastic, fun, sweet, feel good, and any other word that expresses pleasure. Harrison and Lainey find a love that not everyone is happy about but they get their HEA. The characters are like neighbors and the description of the town puts you right there in the author’s imagination. I just love these books!
