Death Valley is not the type of place that holds any travel appeal to me, unless it is through the pages of a book, and that is one of several reasons that the Desert Justice Love Inspired Suspense series has intrigued me since the first book. Envisioning the terrain and trying to fathom how anyone can survive in such sweltering temperatures adds to the respect I have for the characters, and is a nice counterpart to a Midwest winter! As sad as I am that Dana Mentink brings the series to a close with book six, Targeted in the Desert, this rounds out the happily-ever-afters for the beloved members of the Duke family with a satisfying conclusion.
With that in mind, the Desert Justice series can be read as standalones, but for the best experience and to avoid any relationship spoilers, I recommend reading them in chronological order. Targeted in the Desert provides readers with the full story of Jude Duke, acting chief and sheriff of Furnace Falls, as it dovetails with that of his ex-girlfriend, Felicia Tennison. When Felicia becomes unwittingly involved in a legal dispute regarding family she didn’t know she had, Jude is thrust back into her life to provide protection, but that only complicates matters. Now she is in danger of losing her heart, again, in addition to her life. And the struggle is not one-sided; Jude finds himself having to confront his worst fear while figuring out his identity and what, as well as who, make him Jude Duke. On one level or another, this issue affects each of us in some way, and ultimately what it signifies is our status as children of God, worthy and redeemed in His sight once we accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord.
Additionally, similar themes of striving, trauma, and indecisiveness undergird the narrative and demonstrate that everyone has trials of their own to overcome. One extraneous detail that I found interesting was the legally blind lawyer and the explanation of some of his accommodations, including a feature on his glasses that enabled an automated voice to read documents aloud. Mentink utilizes legal circumstances commonly witnessed today, albeit with more sinister implications for the sake of fiction, and carefully negotiates the effects of former and present trauma. In spite of all that she has been through, Felicia comes to the sudden realization that “She’d learned more about her inner strength and God’s love lying in a hospital bed than she’d known in her previous twenty-seven years of life.” So often, that seems to be the way of it, as we grow in our faith and strength far more in hardship than we do in times of ease. Furthermore, we have a tendency to lose our courage when we try to look too far ahead instead of doing what we know is right and trusting God for the rest. Felicia experiences peace when she recognizes that “She didn’t have to figure it all out, only to take the next right step, and this was it.” So simple, and yet so profound!
In bidding farewell to the Duke clan, I look forward to the next adventure that Dana Mentink will offer readers and reflect on the many lessons that came along with this series. What I think that I will remember the most is how the Duke family always functioned together as the body of Christ, offering whatever was needed to strangers, friends, and each other unhesitatingly and with compassion. More than once, this selflessness led to healing and self-examination for those being served, which is a prime example of the life-changing love of Christ in action for which we should all be striving.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Celebrate Lit and was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.
Targeted in the Desert was a captivating story! It had loads of suspense, with a villain who seemed unrepentant and determined. It also had some great romantic tension between Jude and Felicia, who had dated and then broken up only a few months earlier. Of course, it was clear to the reader that these two belonged together and that they both wished they could be together, even as it seemed it would not work between them. Jude, especially, had a lot of growing to do in regards to how he viewed himself. Was he simply a product of his father or could he look to God as the one who made him into the person that he was? Gracie and her dog, Stretch, were so cute together and added a lot of sweetness to the story. I loved seeing the way both Felicia and Jude cared about Gracie.
This novel completes the Desert Justice series and it was fun to see a few of the characters from earlier books show up in this story, too. However, if you haven’t read any of the earlier books in the series, you can still pick up this book and read it as a stand alone.
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
You don’t want to miss this one! Targeted in the Desert is the sixth book in Dana Mentink’s Desert Justice Series about the Duke clan, but it can easily be read as a stand-alone. I was so happy to read the story about Jude Duke and Felicia Tennison.
Jude is the big, tough sheriff who has shunned relationships and ended the one he’d barely begun with Felicia in the past. His fear of becoming like his wayward father has prevented him from moving forward and has almost made him miss becoming the man God has meant him to be.
Just as Felicia learns she has a little sister, Gracie, she discovers they are in grave danger. With the death of Gracie’s mother, Felicia assumes the care of the six-year-old and her huge, protective dog. But someone is intent on harming her or Gracie or both of them. The only person she can turn to for help is the man who broke her heart, Jude Duke.
Jude is determined to protect Felicia and Gracie at all costs, while fighting the feelings that have resurfaced. Will the reconciliation of his past with his present come in time to save the two people he cares most for in the whole world?
Dana Mentink is an expert at combining suspense, romance, and faith. Her characters are well-developed, and they experience relatable problems and emotions. Her descriptions put the reader right in the thick of the nonstop action. This book truly captures the attention from start to finish. I had a very hard time With the death of Gracie’s mother, Felicia assumes the care of the six-year-old and her huge, protective dog.putting it down and was actually sorry to say goodbye to the characters at the story’s end. Targeted in the Desert deserves at least five stars. I would give it more if I could!
Targeted in the Desert (Desert Justice #6) Dana Mentink Targeted in the Desert is the sixth and final book in the Desert Justice series and the Duke family. I am sad to see it end. Love the story and the characters, both were well written. A Love Inspired Suspense Inspirational Romance, courage, danger, and faith. Felicia Tennison, and a sister she never knew she had are on the run, someone is after them. she has an ex-boyfriend that she never wanted to see again, Jude Duke is sheriff in the death Valley area. Can he protect them? He will try if it is the last thing he does. Can answers be found or will it cost them their lives? I Highly recommend Targeted in the Desert. I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Loved the mystery and suspense of the book. Felicia finds out she has a sister she didn’t know about. Someone is after Felicia and her sister. Who is it? Judd who is Felicia ex boyfriend ends up being the one to help her. Will they be able to rekindle their romance? Read and see. I loved the dog in the book, he was so protective. I enjoyed reading this book.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. This book review is my own opinion.
Target in the Desert by Dana Mentink. Due to release March 26th. Preorder now. You won't want to miss out. Awesome book! Felicia has already been in danger and her car bombed. Jude Duke the sheriff stayed by her side through her turmoil. Then he let age difference deter him. Felicia was adopted. She never knew her biological Mom. All of a sudden a woman leaves a note on her door she needs to meet so Felicia can protect her sister (which she knew nothing about). Danger abounds all around. Gracie is 6 years old and recovering from a surgery. Need encouraged, uplifted and an adventure you will get it. Preorder now. On get March 26 when releases.
This is book six in the Desert Justice series and the final one but I was able to read as a stand-alone, as unfortunately I had not read the previous books. Felicia is a believable character who is dropped into a suspenseful ride for her safety while trying to protect a little sister she didn’t know existed. Family secrets have kept her in the dark and revelations that can have shocking consequences emerge. Her ex is thrown into the fray as the sheriff who is trying to protect her which makes for an interesting and intriguing storyline. I loved Gracie and what her sweet character brought to the story. This is just an all around good book with suspense, lightened by romance, with faith intertwining and pulling it all together. I recommend for a quick entertaining afternoon reading but suggest you read the previous books so you get the full picture of family. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
It is time for the last Duke’s story! When Sheriff Jude Duke discovers Felicia Tennison a victim in an car accident caused by a thrown rock, his boss warns him off the case. Jude and Felicia have a dating history that ended disastrously, recently.
Mentink’s characters are believable and flawed, yet still worth cheering. I enjoyed the connections to Duke family members we met in previous books. Faith is important as both Jude and Felicia grapple with uncertain situations.
What I especially loved about this romantic suspense was the precocious 6-year-old little girl, and her Great Dane protector. Both brighten the pages of the novel and make you wish you knew them, too!
Felicia has come to appreciate her scars. Instead of worrying about ruined looks, she tells Gracie, “it’s just a tiny pink line to remind me that I’m strong and I’m healed.” and, “I can still see them and touch them, but they don’t hurt anymore. It’s okay to have scars.” While Felicia understands this is also true of scars of the heart, will Jude ever comprehend this?
I did not figure out the ending. I felt as sucker-punched as Jude and Felicia, (but much happier!)Bravo!
I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. I also bought a copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.
Notable Quotables:
Her new future would be full of unexpected joys and hardships, but Jude wouldn’t be privy to any of it. His choice. His lonely choice.
He was about as welcome in her life as a bad case of poison ivy.
“Genuine apologies don’t have a but in them.”
I don’t forget, and I don’t forgive. My plans were ruined, and I will exact payment for that.”
I have read every book in this series and noticed the development of one male character in particular. Sheriff Jude Duke has become a favorite of mine and I am happy that he got his own inspirational romance. Jude is a tough guy. He is there to preserve the law and protect the citizens in his territory. The trouble is Felicia Tennison, his sister's best friend, lives in the area and she needs protection. He needs to stay away from her especially after pointing out that she is too young, too full of life to be part of his future. He's just too old, too worn out and fearful that he will be like his father. He is professional law and he doesn't need her by his side. But, for now, she needs him to watch over her and a tiny little girl who just may be her newly discovered sister. A little girl she feels she can't possibly be responsible for. What a story! This close to the Desert Justice series brings twists and turns encompassing the Duke family once again. As usual, A Dana Mentink suspense means there will be danger, bad guys and at least a couple surprises. This is an excellent ending to a very good series. This works as a read alone but I highly recommend reading the prior books to see the full character development of Jude Duke. (It's okay to read this one now!)
Extreme heat, rugged terrain, an ex-boyfriend, and a plot to kidnap a sister she never knew existed had me turning the pages of this action-packed book to find out what would happen in the life of Felicia Tennison.
It didn’t hurt to see the return of Sheriff Jude Duke and his family, although I was much happier to reconnect with Jude than Felicia, because he’s the ex she definitely did not want to deal with. I’m glad he has a stubborn streak and refused her attempts to keep her safe as she and her little sister find themselves in danger.
I am so sad to see this series end, but what a satisfying ending it is. If you like novels with fast paced action, suspense warm caring families, and yes, sweet romance you will not want to miss this one. I recommend reading the entire series in order to meet the amazing, unforgettable characters. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions are my own.
A note to meet ends up in a very close call. A sister she never knew she had seems to bring Felicia all kinds of headaches. Evil intentions follow her every move. Will DNA show this sibling relationship is real, or has she been dropped into this mystery with an end result of more danger? Sheriff Jude is learning that second chances do not come around very often. What will he do with this one?
Oh my goodness - this last book in the Desert Justice series is not to be missed! I loved how the author reminded the reader about the Duke family from the earlier books. An early copy was received through Love Inspired Suspense. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
This is a wow book. It was such fun reading about the game that is still played today that helped prisoners in the war escape. The romance was a fun twist in the book as well. I recommend this book if a reader likes teak facts in their books. This book was a fun read about the pows and not about all the evil that was done. I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
This has been such an enjoyable series and I’m sad that this is the last book. The author delivers a powerful ending to a series where intrigue and action keep readers glued to the book. I love how she includes faith in the story and gives us flawed characters that are realistic. The Duke family closes their chapter in this electrifying adventure that had twists and surprises where I was caught off guard at every turn.
I loved Felicia and how she has stepped up when a family matter thrusts her into unknown territory. She never imagined the secret she would find out would place her in danger. I liked how she embraced this newfound information and became very protective of a young girl who would change. I know it must be a surprise for her to find out more secrets from her past but this one will be a blessing in the end.
Jude comes on the scene when Felicia and the young girl in her care are in grave danger. Someone is out to stop Felicia from becoming the guardian and will stop at nothing to see her disappear. Jude and Felicia have a past that does once again surfaces to the top with both of them not sure if they can work together. Jude has some baggage of his own that he needs to deal with. His insecurity and doubt play a big role in trying to be the hero and prove to Felicia that he is a good guy.
I loved Gracie and her faithful dog Stretch. Her faith is very evident and I loved how she was an example to the adults. Her dog was a hero to me because Stretch protected Gracie and never once ran away from fear. He is a big dog that can be intimidating but with Gracie he is nothing but a loyal friend to her. I don’t know why but I cried reading about the bond Gracie and her dog had.
The author does not disappoint with a story that delivers surprises and suspense in a way that kept me guessing . I love a story where we witness a character that realizes the fears they have had are now gone and they feel free from their past. Jude and his family will be missed but I will remember them forever. Thank you Dana for a wonderful ending to a series that has captured hope, forgiveness and faith.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Targeted in the Desert is the final book in the Desert Justice series. I had not read the previous books, so initially, I was hesitant to start with the last book. However, I enjoy Dana Mentink’s writing and know her books can be read as standalone, so I got it. I am happy that I did. I loved it.
The story was a bit of a tear-jerker with much suspense thrown in. It opens with Felicia Tennison and the backstory of her abandonment as a baby at a local fire station. She was adopted by a great family and goes on to live a normal life until she experiences a tragic event that lands her in the hospital. She recovers but discovers her birth mother has tracked her down shortly after. Family secrets begin to unfold to include the potential of a sister Felicia never knew existed.
The story gets good when Felicia becomes the sole caregiver of her little sister. It is one thing to step in to serve in a helper role, but when things get dangerous, she needs help to protect the child and herself. Enter Felicia’s ex-boyfriend, Sheriff Jude Duke. Jude quickly discovers there is more to the case than just protecting his ex-girlfriend and her little sister. There are evil people in this world with bad intentions, and he needs to figure out why anyone would be after Felicia or the child.
To say this book is filled with suspense would be an understatement. Dana had me wondering about what the outcome of events would be. What initially appeared to be obvious was not at all what I had expected. Great writing!
This book is a good choice if you are interested in reading romantic suspense with twists and turns. Dana also does a great job of sharing emotional God-filled moments meaningfully.
I highly recommend Targeted in the Desert. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
Note: I reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received through Celebrate Lit. I was not required to write a positive review or be compensated for sharing my thoughts. I am disclosing this per FTC regulations.
LOVE Inspired books are really a favorite of mine. They are short books, but packed with great stories. Dana Mentink has become my favorite Author for the LOVE-Inspired Suspense book. I recently had the opportunity to read Targeted in the Desert by Dana Mentink. It is Book 6 in the Desert Justice series. I have read the first 5 books in this series and have been anxiously awaiting this book. I am sad that it is the FINAL Book in the series.
Felicia Tennison is on the run for her safety along with a Sister she never knew existed. Felicia realizes they are in so much danger and she decides she has to enlist the help of her Ex Jude Duke, the one person she really didn't ever want to see again. Jude Duke is the local Sheriff and he is determined to find who is targeting the little girl and Felicia, even though there is so much at stake for Jude, Felicia and the girl. Will they discover the answers to who is hunting them down before it is too late? Will Felicia and Jude be able to work together and forge ahead with future plans?
I have never read a book by Dana Mentink that I didn't like and this series has been one of my favorites ever. The twists and turns in the book really kept me glued to the storyline. I really LOVED reading Felicia and Jude's story. Felicia is an amazing character and I LOVE how she is able to think about others in their time of need. Jude is my favorite character in the book. He really put his focus on helping Felicia despite breaking off a relationship with her recently. Felicia and Jude both had some obstacles from their past that may have hindered their previous relationship, but they seem to want to look ahead. This book is one of Faith, Forgiveness, Romance, and looking to the future. The book reads well as a Stand Alone, but I would recommend reading from Book 1! I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone who loves Suspense Filled romance books with a Faith aspect. GREAT BOOK!
Targeted in the Desert is written by Dana Mentink. This is the last book in the Desert Justice Series. While this can be read as a stand alone book you’ll want to get to know the whole crazy Duke Crew. I’m so thrilled that Jude got the final story. He wasn’t my favorite in previous books so it was nice to get underneath that tough exterior
Felicia is Jude’s sister, Nora’s best friend. We saw her in Nora’s story. Felicia was adopted at a young age and finds out that she has a sister. She also finds out that someone wants to eliminate them both. She gets a packet asking to meet from an anonymous source. She has no idea what to expect while she is driving there. However in route to meet the anonymous person there’s an accident. That’s where everything goes south.
Jude himself was on the way to the coffee shop when he sees the accident. He does not believe that it was a coincidence. However with the history that Felecia and he have he knows he can’t be the one that watches over them. He broke up with her for several reasons. He then finds out Felecia has a sister that needs help.
Suddenly we’re taken on a wild adventure. Jude wants to make sure that both Felecia and Gracie are safe. They try to stay two steps ahead of the bad guy but trouble keeps finding them.
The author has a way of bringing you into the story within the first few pages. She will keep your heart pumping with adrenaline through the non stop action. While I’m sad to see this series end, the finale might be my favorite.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
I can remember a time when books published by Harlequin were looked down upon as inferior. In my opinion, those days are over, at least when you get hold of one as expertly crafted as those by Dana Mentink. Despite their shorter format, this author manages to cram a surprising amount of content and well designed plot into one volume.
Targeted in the Desert is an emotionally driven story that features an young woman abandoned at birth who has just learned that she has a much younger sister who is in need of her protection. It’s not long before she realizes that someone wants the child dead and Felicia is determined to prevent it at all costs, even if it means working with former boyfriend Jude Duke to do so.
The final installment of the six book Desert Justice series, Targeted in the Desert is the perfect end to the series. Once again a member of the Duke family is faced with a high stakes, life or death situation against the backdrop of Death Valley. Other members of the family make brief appearances in the pages filled with danger, action, and suspense. A surprise ending is the icing on the cake and readers will close the covers with satisfaction of a book well done. And as I’ve come to expect, a dog with a personality of its own is another special character.
If you are not acquainted with books by this author, make it a point to read this series if you can.
I voluntarily reviewed a digital copy of this book provided by Celebrate Lit. A favorable review was not required. All views expressed are my own.
Felicia has just received some startling news. She has received a note and picture from a woman who says that her sister is in danger. Felicia is shocked. She was adopted when she was just a baby, and she never went looking for her birth parents as she had a good life with her adoptive parents. They saw her through her growing up years and through her medical situation. So, receiving this news is quite shocking and spurs Felicia into action. Little does she know that she and Gracie, the little girl, are in quite a lot of danger.
Unfortunately, Felicia needs help and even more unfortunately, that help comes in the way of her ex-boyfriend Sheriff Jude Duke. They really cared for one another, but he broke up with her. Why? Well Jude has his reasons and one of them is that he is thirteen years older than her, but is that enough to not have the happiness they could have together? Or is there more? I was very invested in their relationship.
Jude will stop at nothing to protect Felicia and Gracie. These attempts on her life have him acting as her bodyguard. Of course, he loves her, but is that love enough?
I really enjoyed this last installment of the Desert Justice series and finally getting Jude's story. It was a fun adrenaline filled suspense with secrets that were just begging to be answered.
I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
This series has been awesome! I'm sad that this is the last book! However, Jude Duke has been in all the books. He's the Sheriff in the Death Valley area of Furnace Falls. When his former girlfriend, Felicia, and the young sister she never knew existed, are on the run because of someone trying to kill them for an unknown reason, Jude must step in to protect them. In a race against time, they must try to figure out why Felicia's little sister is the target. Felicia just met Gracie! Is she going to lose her little sister without even getting to know her? Not if Jude has anything to do with it! In all the other books, Jude has come to the aid of his family members when they have been going through scary time involving a crime. Now, it's his turn! He's always been a little gruff and serious. In this book, we get to find out some of his reasons and why Felicia is so good for him! He fights her for a long time even though her reasons are sound! I liked Felicia even though she didn't step up to the plate right away when asked if she would be the guardian for Gracie. I guess it just had to sink in a little bit first. But in the end, she did the right thing and that's all that matters! A good ending to the series! I will miss the Duke family!
What I think you should know: Targeted in the Desert by Dana Mentink is the sixth and final book in the Desert Justice Series. While you could read this as a standalone I recommend reading the prior books in the series as this is an action packed series that will keep you on the edge of your seat while making you fall in love with the Duke family. This book features Jude Duke and Felicia Tennison.
What you might need to know: Felicia was adopted after being abandoned as a baby. Felicia and Gracie have heart problems.
What I think about this book: This has been such an exciting series, and like the previous books it started off with a bang! After all of the awesome Dukes I was excited to finally get Jude’s story. I enjoyed getting to see Furnace Falls and the family from his perspective. Felicia had some very realistic struggles with all that she had thrown at her in the last two books. I really appreciated her honesty. I loved Stretch ( The Great Dane) and his devotion to his family. While I am sad to see this series come to an end, I know that Mentink will have something great in store for us in the future!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
What a fun book! This is part of a series. To understand this book fully you’re going to want to read the whole series. Trust me on this one. Plus, it’s a really good series so I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to read them all instead of just one book.
We spent some time getting to know Felicia in the book prior to this one, Christmas Crime Cover-Up, as she is the best friend and coworker of Nora Duke. The whole series follows the Duke family. This book is about Felicia who isn’t a Duke because it also centers on one Duke boy, Jude, who happens to be Nora’s brother.
Okay, that gets some of the stuff out of the way.
Add in a sister that Felicia never knew about that is suddenly in Felicia’s care and someone out to kill both of them, and it starts to get really interesting! You’re going to love this book! But also I really loved the big dog too. I’m a fan of big dogs.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
Dana Mentink concludes her Desert Justice series with her trademark pizzazz. It contains all the elements I’ve come to expect (and love) in her storytelling — humour, romantic tension, twisty turny plot, some critter comic relief and lots of edge-of-your-seat danger.
I appreciated getting glimpses into the lives of some of the past heroes and heroines (but you could totally read this book as a standalone too without any trouble.) And I really enjoyed the fact that Jude and Felicia’s break-up is quite fresh — it’s only been a few weeks and that makes it all kinds of awkward and angsty when they are thrown together under dire circumstances.
And there’s a certain critter that I don’t want to say much about until you meet him for yourself — but he captured my heart and had me imagining what my life would be like with a….no, best not go there. 🙂
This is another suspense that hooked me from the first line: “Felicia Tennison’s hands shook as she idled her car on the side of the road.” Oh, the quandary she’s in, the turmoil she’s already lived through…the uncertainty of her future. I couldn’t stop reading until every last question was answered and the happily ever after became a reality.
The final chapter in the Desert Justice series makes the reader happy and sad when they reach the end. Happy because Dana Mentink has written a satisfactory ending to her series set in Death Valley in Targeted in the Desert. Sad because with the ending of the story about Jude Duke and Felicia Tennison we have to leave the Duke family and head on to new horizons with Dana Mentink.
After learning she may have a younger sister, Felicia heads back to Furnace Falls and smack dab straight into danger and face-to-face with her former boyfriend, Jude Duke.
Jude is set on keeping Felicia and the young girl safe from whoever is trying to harm them. He tries to keep his focus on his job, but his heart refuses to cooperate.
Felicia wants to protect her broken heart from becoming entangled with Jude again. She just wants to confirm the identity of her sister and protect her from falling into the hands of her stepfather while solving the mystery of why he wants the girl so badly.
Can they all escape with their lives and hearts intact?
I received a copy of this book for review purposes. This is my honest opinion.
A fast-paced mystery, that kept that pages turning as Felicia and her sister try to stay one step ahead of who is pursuing them.
An engaging romantic suspense, I liked that it brought Jude and Felicia back together after he had tried to pull away. Jude is a noble and protective man, and I liked that he was willing to step up and help Felicia as she swept into the conflict over her sister.
A gripping novel that can be read as a stand alone or as part of the series. I liked seeing Felicia connect with Gracie and her giant dog, as well as seeing her face her past. Felicia and Jude work well together, and I liked seeing them problem solve as well as Jude stepping out from behind the walls he's built for himself.
Overall a compelling, action -packed read, filled with suspense, faith and love. Definitely a must-read for anyone who has been keeping up with the Duke family, or a wonderful stand alone!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Felicia (Fee) Tennison is thrust into a life threatening situation when she receives a picture of a young girl that says on the back that this little one is her sister. Little does Fee realize how much danger she and her little sister find themselves in as they run from a potential killer. Fee is going to have to depend upon Sheriff Jude Drake to keep them safe. But will she be able to do that with keeping her heart safe too?
I loved the rough and tumble Jude who has a soft spot for Fee and does all he can to protect her, her sister, and the Great Dane who gets into mischief and also helps protect his young mistress. I enjoyed seeing the love story between Jude and Fee and at the same time solving the case of this sixth book in Desert Justice. You do not need to read the other books in the series since this can be read as a standalone.
