My Gently Raised Beast is a fantasy manhwa about an orphan who happens to be a long-lost princess. When she's found, she immediately returns to the palace and learns all about being royal. Her father, the Emperor, is rude, stoic, and doesn't care much about her. And her siblings... worse. Her only companion is a talking cat! Then one day he transforms into a boy!!!!
AMON IS THE CUTEST AND ALWAYS WANTS TO PROTECT BRIDDY. He gets easily jealous and wants her whole attention. In this first volume, they're small and Briddy is like 11 and Amon is 9. But it seems there's gonna be a time skip in the next volume and they're gonna age (she is gonna be 20 and he's gonna be 18 I think!) which it's exciting because ahhhh I love time skips.
I'm excited where this will go. Everyone says this manhwa is the best and I'm so angry that I just found out about it recently. Thank you Yen Press for sending me a copy of the first volume!!! If you didn't send it to me, I would never have known about it and I'm so happy that I get to experience this story for the first time.
A sort of "Beauty and the Beast"/"Cinderella" combo (with a heroine whose name comes from French variants of "Rapunzel"), this is the sort of addictive soapy drama that South Korean media does so well. The eyes are unsettlingly drawn, but the cat is absolutely perfect, and Blondina taking down her half-sister (verbally and in public) is worth a star on its own. This has lots of potential.
4.25 This story is so heartwarming (except for the traumatizing parts). I love the the two of them together and I’m super sad this is over. The plot is actually REALLY good and it’s really even with the romance aspects. The ending was so cute. AND the side couple has my whole entire heart. Good plot, gorgeous art, and good romance.
Reading manga for 24 hours (or until I get sick of it) book 5!
Really fantastic start to this series! The world and magic system is incredibly interesting, and I’m curious to see where the politics of this one shift to. The FMC is refreshing. She’s sweet, and yet she’s also not an idiot and knows how to keep herself alive. The male love interest is perfect and already yandere as hell (despite being 9????). I can already tell he’s going to be an absolute psycho for her as they get older. Overall, I’m excited to see where this goes! I think this story and these characters have a lot of potential and opportunity to expand.
My one complaint about this is kind of the strange racism with the MMC. He is an incredibly aggressive, yandere lead, and there was some implication of him being that way due to being brown. I found this incredibly strange. The author also notes in the back of the manhwa that Amon was white in the offical light novel, but was given darker skin to, “accentuate his sexiness” (actually quote btw) which…wow. Fucking weird and fetishy as fuck. Like, I enjoyed the story, but it’s strange. I’m going to try and see other peoples opinions on this to gauge a more, “‘Am I too liberal’ or is this actually racist and fetishy” but I thought I’d mention.
Aw man these two are just stinking cute! I'm enjoying the story and art.
Storyline: Blondina, a princess who had commoner’s blood, lived quietly in a separate palace once she was adopted into her toxic royal family after her mother passed.
Due to her mixed blood, she received ill-treatment and was surrounded with contempt. One day, she happened upon a wounded black cat and decided to treat it. But, the lovely cat she assumed it to be was actually…?
Once the lovely cat was all grown up, she realized…their relationship might be more complicated than she thought- as well as her feeling. She thought she raised him well, but she’s going to be eaten up as well.
My daughter is a huge fan of this and had wanted me to read this for a LONG time. It’s not really my jam (even though I LOVE to watch anime). I just prefer more structured stories. BUT we sat down today and read it together since I had the day off. Cute beginning of a story and I’m sure Briddy (Princess Blondina) and Amon will be a cute couple once they get together in the installments that follow. 3.5 stars for the story and 5 stars for the memory with my baby girl ❤️
Her name is BLONDINA. Did we get a little bored when naming characters? I can’t with that. Everything else about it is wonderful. The artwork is beautiful, it’s in full color, I adore Amon…. I just can’t get past that one thing. 😂
this is a very enjoyable, amusing, and engaging story! i really like amon and blondina, and how their relationship evolves. the storyline is actually quite good, portraying romance beautifully and sweetly. the ending was incredibly cute, and.. THE ART IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!
This isn’t exactly a groundbreaking manhwa... yet the main couple is so ridiculously cute they practically carried the entire narrative. Their fluffy, wholesome moments had me hooked despite the “meh” storyline.
So mystery talking cat is really a human?? That's a nice twist to the story. Long lost princess?? Another good twist.
Blondina lived a hard life before coming to the palace but also has a hard and lonely life at the palace because no one wants to except her as the long lost daughter of the emperor. Having siblings that really want nothing to do with you must be very lonely.
Enters Amon, a talking cat, that actually turns into a human. He is injured at the beginning but lets Blondina nurse him back to full help. He becomes very protective of her as well which I really like because she is at a huge disadvantage when it comes to being new at the palace and not really knowing anyone and what he place is going to be in the future.
They seem to be young in this volume but looking into the next volume there looks to be a time jump to when they are becoming adults. Amon is absolutely adorable at this younger age so I can't wait to see what he looks like fully grown.
I am absolutely devouring this story. I have currebtly read till chapter 19 and the way bridey and amon interact and have their own little dynamic is too precious. Its weekly updated so i only need little patience but im thijking of reading the actjal novel too since this is too precious to miss.
This is just something strangely soft and squishy about this story that makes me eeeeeeeh while reading it. Even with the innocents that is the undertone for most of the story, there is some very adult themes that add another layer to what is going on.
I mainly only read this for the romantic scenes lolz. Blondina and Amon are so devoted to each other and Amin’s possessiveness is so cute. I love myself a yandere. Blondina is a great protagonist - levelheaded and badass and smart and kind. This series is also really furry. Some of the scenes when he’s in leopard form I just— Anyways, the plot apart from the romance could have been interesting, but wasn’t executed in a compelling way. The climax and the last 15 chapters were honestly underwhelming. I just wanted to get back to my wholesome romance.
I read this on webtoons and it started out really cute, and then it got really weird, and then it ended okay. It's a Korean manhwa adapted from a light novel series, I think? Anyway, it's okay.
A decent read about a lovely half-blood Princess of royalty who has a mysterious cat best friend. 🫧💕💐
*NOT-SPOILER FRIENDLY BELOW*
Part 1 was a good opener, however, I feel like a lot of the storyline was left out. The world-building was not prominent and for me, that is generally something which I appreciate more than anything. To delve into a whole new world and then get to know the character's back story is generally how I like to read. Of course, as a comic/manhwa, the story is more simplified and things are cut down but it almost seemed like too much. Within a few pages, the story was already fleshed out where Blondina moves from one home to her next and instantly gains recognition as a Princess of the Empire! Insanity! It just needed something more for me.
Part 2 was fine! Amon REALLY said that Blondina is his and stomped on Prince Lart so casually. Crazy. The art of Princess Adellai is always gorgeously done and it made me triple-check to see and appreciate the details. Even though she is evil and scheming deep down (not canon/confirmed quite yet lol, assumptions)!
Part 3 primarily focuses on Blondina'a relationships with Amon and the new potential love interest, Philip of the duke family. It is interesting all the same and this is where I felt I did not want to get to the end of the physical book! Haha. The history between the humans and beasts was properly entertained and gave us something to make us more familiar with the world we have been catapulted into.
Overall, a decent, low rate 4-star read. Will likely pick up Volume 2 next year.
