Earth has lost its battle against the Solcrue, even with the help of their finest creations: CyberTitans. The last of the human resistance is counting on Cara to rescue one specific unit: a Relic.

Amp can communicate with others throughout the galaxy with access to the galactic network tower on Hyperion. If he succeeds, there might just be hope for the rebellion. What he and Cara don't count on is the desire between them. Humans are not allowed to love machines.

Cara: I'm just a secretary for the rebellion, not a soldier like my father or a cybersystems designer like my mother. I'm not cut out for performing jailbreaks, and definitely not of a mysterious, monster CyberTitan as the hacker model Amp. But he's the earthlings' only hope, and I want revenge.

Amp: I hate being locked in my cave unable to communicate beyond the confined walls of the decommissioning plant. Few of my brothers and sisters survived the Solcrue's forces. We fought beside the earthlings who designed us. We were promised mates if we won. But the war was lost before we were made. A lucky few are scattered among the stars. The rest of us sort the remains of ships until the Solcrue wish to permanently end our suffering.

Cara: I've studied the angles of his angry face for nearly a year yet never noticed the vulnerability in his eyes until he stared down at me as he does now. No earth man could compare in height, musculature, or how he makes me want to touch him and know exactly what is metal and what is flesh.

Amp: My ultro motor races at the first glimpse, but she’s dressed as a Solcrue decommissioner. Mother Besha always told us we could learn to love someday, that we would know our mates the moment we laid eyes on them. But I cannot comprehend what I’m seeing. It can’t be her, and yet I can’t help but crave a taste of her lips. I need her, like I need out of this place.

A steamy, fast-love, one-love, HEA romance that builds the preface for the CyberTitans book collection. Features intimacy, violence, and cursing.

Amp was a nice change of pace for a few hours, and I genuinely enjoyed it.

Amp is the first book in the Hunted Relics where humans are the lower class, and Titans are used and abused by a race that takes what it wants and spits everything else out. Resistance is the only way to bring them to their knees, and that means uniting machines and humans to make it happen. If only they could keep everyone safe.

Beneath their tough exterior lies a big-hearted man that is more human than machine, who would do anything to keep her safe.

Fun, quick read

I needed something different than what I've been reading and this was perfect. It short and quick. A little instalove. Just enough world building to make me want to keep reading the series.

Reseña — Amp de Sybur Phyre

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5 ME ENCANTÓ

Okay, I liked the ideas in this story but this either needed to 1) be longer with more time spent expanding on the romance and backstory or 2) stayed the same length but have the romance taken out. This book was trying to introduce us to this new sci-fi world while also giving us a whole romance arc and both elements felt rushed and I was left unsatisfied.

Let's talk romance. This was very much insta-love, and let me be clear, I know insta-love is hard to make believable but I very much think it can be done. Unfortunately, however, this didn't come anywhere close to being believable.

As for the world-building, this was a good start, but for once, I almost wished for an info dump here and there because certain elements were thrown out at you with little to no explanation. It was hard to follow at times.

On the plus side, the characters had decent characterization and backstories, but I feel like there is still so much to explore with them and it sounds like this is the only book this couple will get.

Overall, while the ideas were good, the execution is lacking as I think there's very little depth to the important elements of this story. To be completely honest, I wish the prequel would have been about Cara's parents and what their final moments/struggle to be in a relationship was like. I feel like that would have made it easier to explain/show the history of what happened with the humans and Titans, and it would also mean that Amp and Cara could have their own full-length novel rather than this rushed storyline that they currently have.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I love cyborg romance. I like to think I’m forgiving of errors or inconsistencies in these books because there aren’t many of them out there compared to alien romances.

BUT..

I dnf’d at 32%. First chapter or so was promising. But I started noticing right away that it was like the author took the adage of “show, don’t tell” to just “don’t tell”. Information was missing and the set up difficult to follow.

Then the dual POV’s sounded exactly the same as each other. I lost track of who was speaking if I set the book down.

She arrives at the prison facility pretending to be full-alien instead of the half-human she really is (that we don’t realize until just then). Okay. she’s supposed to be cool and logical, but reacts to a secondary character cyborg by over explaining herself to a room of cyborgs who couldn’t care less what she is really there for. So why waste time with backtalk that feels adolescent?

The mmc sees her in a video feed when she arrives to his prison and instantly gets a cyber-boner before seeing her in person, and calmly contemplates the state of his attraction to her. okay. I was willing to go with that too.

But when he sees her in person for the first time, instead of continuing the calmness and caution to gather more intel before he reacts (like it seemed his character would do), he grabs her by the throat and near strangled her… and she gets wet while he still has her feet practically off the ground. He has her in a vice grip, hanging. But she gets wet and feels high. Is it because of her alien heritage that she likes getting roughed up? I don’t care at this point. It’s not even sinister-sexy to me.

Great Beginning For The Series!

The Solcure Galactic Federation have taken control of pretty much all of the humans that remain from the war and all of the CyberTitan’s that were created to help the humans fight them. The Solcure continue their quest to either kill or enslave everyone. Cara is the daughter of the woman that created the Titan’s. She was raised with them and understands them. She is being sent to free Amp from the mines where he and a few other Titan’s are being kept as slaves. Amp has the unique ability to communicate with the other Titan’s in hiding if he can get to a communication tower which is why he is locked in a cage deep in the mine. She is just a secretary and doesn’t think she can do this, but she is their only hope. Amp has killed anyone else that gets close enough for him to grab! They are hoping he will recognize her as the daughter of “mother”, which is what they call their creator. So off Cara goes with her cyborg Poppy.

This is a really good book and grabs your interest from the first page. It is filled with lots of action. I love how the relationship develops between Cara and Amp as well as the other Titan’s they manage to rescue. You will love it and I can’t wait for the next book!

3.5 ⭐️

This one looked interesting and promising. It's been a long time since I've read a sci-fi romance, and this one has some sort of cyborgs, and I said, "Why not?".

The Asimov vibes are there with all the robots / cyborg concepts. The rebellion idea also has Star Wars vibes, which I love, love, love ... hence, in theory, I was vibing with this read, haha. 😂🥹

But I don't know, everything was too rushed. There was a lot of information packed in such a short read. I already forgot a few of the things I read 😅. There was a loooot to unpack in such a short read.

The insta stuff didn't bother me, actually. I was somehow fine with that. A little bit awkward on his side, maybe, since his lust reaction was actually instant.

I hope to see more of this couple in the next books in the series. Because I liked them, hence I need more of their story 🥹🤞.

I'll give a chance to the next one in the series.

What to expect
- to be continued (I think these are interconnected standalones, in the same universe; probably all of his cyborg / titans will have their stories)
- she is a half breed, between human and another alien species, while he is a Titan (some sort of robot / humanoid with special powers)
- spicy short read
- OTT insta - lust and everything else; he instantly went into protective mode
- HFN (since the rebellion is in full action, but their commitment is definitely a HEA, they chose each other as mates 🖤)

“We’re never ready for our first mission, Cara. Just have courage,..."

Cara is the only being who can tackle the mission she is heading out on, for a variety of reasons, that doesn't mean she feels she is the right choice. Can she truly persuade a cyborg to trust her? To once more fight alongside humanity?

Amp has spent a year stuck underground, imprisoned, frustrated, and worse, unable to truly lead his people. When a foolish being walks in claiming to want to work with him, to help him, dressed like the enemy, he would have to be nuts to fall for what she is saying.... unless, by some chance, it is the truth?

This done in one book does a really nice job of setting up the dynamics of this universe. The cyborgs and the two "mortal" species who are in conflict with one another -- neither of whom treat the cyborgs as their peers.

I really enjoyed Cara's perspective, the way she saw the programming of the cyborgs, but also looked beyond it. This rare being who was willing to risk everything on her belief in the best possible future... even when other people were giving her cause for doubt.

Amp

Futuristic, cyborg, sci-fi romance. I'm totally enjoying this world. I always enjoy relationships across difference, especially since human beings have such a hard time with it. Xenophobia is many things, one of which is boring. I'm looking forward to reading about how each of these cyborgs are unique.

I like that they have emotions,

“I know cyborgs can feel the emotions of others over their frequencies. It’s how they know their numbers in battle and can re-strategize on a whim.”

It's actually logical to have emotions to help them be better warriors (as well as living brings). I appreciated the comments about choice and free will - always necessary when talking about “programmed” beings.

“Erase your subservient protocols right now!”

Human beings can't be trusted with so much power. If only we could erase our own protocols so easily.

It was ok...

There were some interesting parts... And both main leads were great...
The FMC was really brave even through her fear and the MMC was kind... There was a bit of mistrust at the beginning, and it was understandable given the circumstances, but everything was solved rather quickly as this is a shirt prequel...

My biggest issue was that there was way too much information given to us, places, people, history, events... Barely with any explanation and I was absolutely lost... I more or less got the general idea but everything else was too confusing.

I don't know if I'll keep on reading... Maybe on another occasion I can try with the first book and see how it goes

POV: dual
Tropes: intergalactic setting, robot built with human dna MMC, half human-half alien FMC,insta-love.
Spice: medium (detailed scenes)
CW: imprisonment, enslavement, violence, amputation (off-page).

3.5 Stars
Cara and Amp are both different and the same. He is the cyborg that her mother created. He knows no freedom nor acceptance, not even from those he was programmed to protect.
Cara is the half breed Sulcrue. Accepted by neither human nor Sulcrue. She knows that the cybertitans are more than just machines. Her mission is yo free them and have humans accept them as she does.
This story was pretty good, despite its short length. There was action, and heat.
The story needs more editing, hence the .5 star deduction.

I will continue this series, as long as it is on KU.

Not only is this story believable, but the fact that the FMC was a simple woman whose parents were total opposites made so much sense. Then, to be the one to infiltrate and "breakout," the MMC was a story for the ages.

Perfect lead in to the series, and it doesn't hurt that the MMC opens the door for the others to have a story...yep Im here for it all.

Great series!

Amp and the rest of the Titans are just such cool characters. Cara is such a mix and a contradiction and a brave soul who is willing to give her life for their cause. They are all in such dire circumstances that it amazes you that they can keep going. Love these Relics!

I love these books. I don't like books that you have to read in order, because even if I buy the whole series doesn't mean I read them in order.

Ms. Phyre is a wonderful writer and I have enjoyed most of her books that I have read so far.

Enjoyable Read

This was a great story! Usual tropes of rebels trying to reclaimed their birthright, a forbidden live, etc. The world building was interesting and lends itself to many future stories! Read it!

Science fiction meets romance. The plot and cast were fantastic. Amp was enjoyable, thrilling, and sexy from beginning to end. Sybur Phyre is a new author to me but I look forward to reading more books a part of the Hunted Relics series in the near future. There are so many characters that drew me in and the plot potentials have pulled me in. I am excited for more.

Fantastic Sci-fi Romance Series Start!

Amp is the first book in the Hunted Relics series and an intriguing beginning to a fascinating alien world. The future of the declining and enslaved Human race seems to be in the hands of a select few women and the CyberTitans who were made to protect them. Amp introduces some unique and engaging characters that I cannot wait to know more about. There is plenty of creative world building with creepy antagonists, feisty and determined women and complicated, muscle bound CyberTitans who may be more than they appear.

Amp is fast-paced with the perfect amount of action, danger, instant attraction and spice! I cannot wait to dive into the next book, Savage!

Cara, the female human/humanoid hybrid lead, has been sent to free Amp, the male cyborg lead, from the rock prison he is stuck in by their mutual enemy. Cara knows they need Amp to be an effective rebellion. They’re mutually attracted but Amp’s programming says she’s not a viable mate because she’s non-synthetic. She also more vulnerable to risks…

This novella is dual POV, well written, and an interesting, creative prequel to a new series. I really enjoyed the world building, and the characters. The overarching plot has my attention and I enjoyed the relationship development and the integration of secondary characters.

I received a complimentary copy from the author (downloaded from newsletter subscription, I think) and this is my voluntary honest review.
