Selena Aires is fine with her nine-to-five life in the city and using her spare time to create art instead of making friends or finding love. Then her mentor insists she’s on the wrong path. When he dies suddenly, her grief and faith in his convictions prompts her to move to a small town in the lofty Sierra Nevada Mountains.
But more is waiting for her than the invigorating pine-scented air and endless trails, even more than a surprising creative niche in a quaint old pub and making new friends. What Selena didn’t expect was an encounter with an astonishing man whose barely restrained power calls to something buried in her she didn’t even know was there.
The Alpha of the North Star Pack thought he’d faced every challenge until he lays eyes on the new human in his territory, a beautiful artist with the heart of a warrior and an alluring scent his primal side can’t ignore. Andras Johns knows instantly his life will never be the same.
Now the two of them must find a way to merge their opposing worlds while Selena grapples with her feelings for a man with a mystery beneath the surface, and she faces a destiny that’s expanded beyond her wildest imagination, a destiny fraught with peril in a world that just keeps getting stranger.
D. L. Lewellyn's unexpected passion for writing ignited in 2020 after a summer of avid, lockdown-induced reading in her favorite genre, paranormal romance. In addition to self-publishing her series, The Starlight Chronicles, her stories have appeared in anthologies. More novels are on the way. No surprise there. Anyone who knows her will tell you she’s a dedicated multi-crafter. Take a peek inside her colorful, cluttered studio, and you’ll see it for yourself. She also enjoys blogging about writing and interviewing fellow authors. Her downtime includes lots of reading and sharing popcorn while watching movies or Formula 1 racing with her husband. When they’re not being couch potatoes, they’re walking the high desert with their rescued fur babies.
I really enjoyed this book. The plot was intriguing as it had a lot of twists and turns. The characters are very likable and you find yourself urging them to overcome their challenges! Can’t wait for the next book!
Selena is a beautiful artist who has mastered martial arts and is an excellent shot. She might be too perfect to be relatable to an imperfect reader like myself, but she is likable and easy to root for. Andras is powerful but sweet and respectful of Selena and her independence. Their attraction is instant, but the relationship takes time to build which I appreciated. There is a large cast and a lot going on in this first book to set up the series.
Ursus Borealis: Book One is great for those who love fantasy and romance. It's a page-turner with amazing action scenes that will keep you interested chapter after chapter! The book talks about lives intertwined by magic and destiny, and the author tells it all in a very dynamic way. It's also a good tale for Twilight fans.
What a cliff hanger definitely NOT a standalone tale
What can I say but the book cover has got to be one of my all time favourites. I was intrigued by the image of the bear and the beautiful background of the stars. This book is unlike anything I've read before, if I'm honest a little bit overwhelming so much is packed in. Shapeshifters, aliens, magic users. There is action, adventure thrills and spills just so much happening.
However, I did love the characters, Selena a talented artist a little pocket rocket who loves nature and is well able to take care of herself in a sticky situation. She is drawn to the beautiful handsome hulk that is Andras Jones a kind caring soul in a very fit body with the most dreamy eyes. He is surrounded by colleagues and friends who are equally fit and easy on the eye. (What can I say but the descriptions almost had me swooning.)
Also I actually had to pause reading once or twice to check out some of the music and singers mentioned in the story. It was a nice interlude and I will be checking out more at some point. I'm so glad I didn't read this when it was first published because the story ends abruptly on a real cliff hanger, and I would have been devastated if I'd have had to wait for the next instalment.
I actually let out a loud and long "Noooo!" before remembering I could immediately download book 2 so that's what I'm off to do. Happy Reading Book Lovers 📚📖
I enjoyed this book tremendously. I was hooked from the start; the world the author has created is so engrossing. I love me a slow-burn romance, and this book delivered. Watching the MCs get to know each other was a joy, and being gradually immersed in the world of shifters and magic along with the heroine was done great. I loved the secondary characters, too, along with the found-family vibe. The book ends on a cliff hanger, so having the next book on hand is a good idea. Personally, I'll be diving right in!
This book is so good. The writing is unbelievable. It’s a slow build up to a crescendo of action. I love shifter books and this one is over the top. Can’t wait to get to the next book to find out what happens to Selena and Andras and the rest of the shifters. What fate awaits them.
This is a shifter romance unlike one I have ever read before! I'm enjoying it and book 2 so much I didn't even sleep last night to start book 2!!! I was trying to figure out how to do a GOOD review without giving away anything.... don't know if I can besides saying it's an amazing found family on multiple sides and DEFINITELY a different kind of shifter romance!!! It's great! Seriously, almost done with book 2 already!!!
Wow, wow, wow! There's so much to this story, it's a shifter-romance and much more. The basic shifter structure remains the same enough to be comfortably familiar, but the rest of the story is unexpected and very imaginative. Highly recommended!
I really enjoyed this book at the beginning. As I kept reading, there were more side characters added, side background stories, and other unknowns added. By the end, I was slightly confused.
I picked up this book when I needed something easy and fun to read, and it was perfect. I had no expectations, so I was very pleasantly surprised. It's a romantic shifter fantasy that kept me turning pages. Great pacing and likeable characters. Looking forward to reading the next book.
