Paul McGregor is a treasured resident of Copeland City and a beloved friend who provides food and shelter for the city’s at-risk youths.
No one has a bad word to say about him, yet he’s found in his bed on a freezing January night.
Tortured. Dismembered. Dead.
Now he’s on my table inside the morgue, and his file has landed on Detective Malone’s desk.
Before Archer has the chance to begin his investigation, Paul’s killers walk through the front doors of the precinct and hand themselves in.
A confession usually closes a case, but instincts demand there’s more to Paul’s gruesome murder than his killers are letting on.
As my relationship with the homicide cop boils hotter than ever, and the hunt for the vigilante bubbles closer, I fear the wrath of a man unwilling to bend for love.
Is he protecting me? Or merely delaying the end?
Archer knows my secrets now. He knows everything I keep close to my heart. But is he willing to accept me and all my flaws? Or will his loyalty to justice break us both?

I love Aubree, Fletch, Archer and Minka - not enough Tim in this book though. Minor cameo from some Roller Town faves - I need Sophia to pop up along with JDH next.
Very well written suspense romance with a grizzly murder scene at the beginning, attached to lots of drama that unfolds throughout. Archer is a homicide detective and Minka is the love of his life, chief medical officer and also a killer. They are having a major breakup moment in this book and you have to read this series in order. Some confronting and possible distressing scenes - also, some fun moments. Love these characters. 4.5 stars.
Well I’m glad that’s done. Now hopefully we won’t have to read over and over and over again how they have a different opinion on vigilante justice. Going round and round about the same thing.
Now let’s see, Fletch had a kid! What?!? I truly can’t believe it took Minka telling him he was wrong to fix the situation where his child was no longer in danger. Seriously I do t care how good of a person they are, if they can’t function while a child is awake and provide for them the child needs to be moved. Why would he leave her there? Glad he is finally making the change.
It makes me sad that people take advantage of disadvantaged youth. How those boys killed that man was dark. But no one should do that to children or adults.
At least the second half of the book was better than the first where Minka and Archer just kept going back and forth. That did not help, improve or grow their relationship or develop their characters any more. I hope the next book actually shows good development of their relationship.

I’ve been loving this series but this book in particular seemed a little drawn out. I loved all the parallel stories and how Gage/Garret story coincides with Minka’s. What brought it down is Minka’s inability to compromise, her resoluteness, the fact that she has been so difficult and again uncompromising with Archer from the get go. Contrary to that, I love that attitude in her professional life as she’s a total badass. She’s professional, a good leader and manages her department fairly. So this was a struggle for me. Still I don’t like Minka for Archer, I think he deserves better. This relationship is a tad toxic
Another enjoyable read from Emilia Finn. Minka continues to work through her new appointment as medical examiner. Murders to solve and an unraveling relationship to work through. We learn more about Charlie Fletcher, Archer's partner and I'm hoping there's a book somewhere for Charlie 🙏 The story ends with something unexpected and continues in book 4. This series must be read in order.
Well, how many books are going to be in this series?! Im kind of tired if Minka and Archer. Im ready to read a book focused on Fletcher and Aubree getting their own HEAs. I hope those books are to come. 3 solid stars
Book three takes us through more with Archer and Minka. Still very much has a Bones feel with maybe a little Green Arrow mixed in. Plus, the crossovers with Emilia’s other book makes it all the better. The vigilante is still out there and now that we have an identity Archer and Minka are not seeing eye to eye. How can they when their views are exact opposites.
Well I do see Archer be slightly hypocritical about the situation, but regardless, he maintains his views throughout. Go figure it took one of the kids from his case he worked (btw it’s gruesome and sick in a wicked criminal minds sorta way). Sometimes people are safer when others become judge jury and executioner.
Minka, despite fighting against a relationship, is broken. I’m so made at Archer for how he is acting despite him forcing the relationship before. They come off as childish and petty throughout this book.
In this book we met a new lady, who becomes the light of everyone’s eye. It’s amazing how vocal Minka was for a little girl she just met, but I wonder if we maybe have more there…. I would highly suggest reading this book, but it NEEDS to be read in order, you cannot read them out of order.

I love this! I love Minka and Archer and I love Emilia Finn for bringing them to life! I love that at the end of each book it is like waiting for your favorite show to come on after it has its season finale. It is just GOOD….so damn good. And I yelled out loud when my brain finally registered just how important our new mayor would be at bringing our book worlds together! A Solomon sisters sighting was made and Rosa brother! Hot Damn! Now….we wait for the next episode/season/….book! I need more of Mia, I need Fox to be kicked in the balls, I need some Tim as well (I missed him in this book)….And is Minka going to say Yes? Probably so…not without an argument I’m sure but I’m sure she will. Did I mention I love Archer Malone! Have mercy. Anyway, this is another MUST read by Emilia Finn! Start from the beginning, get on the journey with the rest of us, hold on tight, never look back and enjoy this amazing addiction. It is one hell of a ride!
I’ll admit the start of the series I was unsure, I didn’t want to start a series that felt so different from the books written by Finn before. Would the characters catch my interest? Would supporting characters be equally as convincing? Would I even like this new universe? I now can say with 100% confirmation that yes is the answer. Characters all hold their own and are interesting without being carbon copies of other book characters. There are no redundancies to be found and the plot is like reading a great tv series.
Add in some guest appearances that were unexpected this series has found a spot in my favorites so far. At times the dynamic between H/H was a little pull your hair out frustration but overall good strong characters on both fronts. Plus we love a good HEA with a twist of but wait what happens next! Start from the beginning, well worth it!
Are things heating up or falling apart in Copeland? Will Archer keep the secrets revealed to him a secret or will he change his mind. As the dark secrets of a pillar of the community are revealed through his murder investigation, more secrets are lurking.
Minka and Archer appear to be at an impasse but neither wants to call it. Minka continues to make waves and clean up the George Stanley. The new mayor is adjusting and annoying Minka with his requests and calls.
I love that every book in this series is a massive whodunit. There is always the crime investigation itself but also the vigilante hunt and then a question of how this group of friends will handle everything thrown at them. Emilia makes each installment even better and more seamless. I cannot wait to see what happens next!
Emilia Finn has the talent of writing couples that you get attached to, yearn to see together, feel anxiety when they are apart and hope they will find their happily ever after,. And amongst that are background stories that draw the interest, keeps the suspense alive and keeps her reader engaged. Thus third book picks up where the last one left off. Archer and Minka struggle with their reality. There are several murders to be solved and the new Mayor's presence is felt. We also get a glimpse of Fletcher's story! Amazing. I've read 3 books in two days and the day isn't done. On to book 4!
When you’re on opposite sides of the “moral compass” how do you move past it? Or do you move to the other side? Archer, Minka, and Fletcher face many challenges personally and professionally. Minka’s brutal honesty keeps both men on their toes and forces them to face some harsh realities making them question everything… Vigilante justice, is it right or is it wrong?… Emilia Finn well done!! You NEVER disappoint!!
Such intensity and heartbreak, and more secrets revealed. I am loving this new world of Minka and Archer, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. The blatant tragedies uncovered in this book, make my heat hurt because you know these kinds of things truly happen. I can’t resist the delicious drama and sparks that Emilia Finn creates in every book every time.
Minka is kinda starting to get on my nerves. I mean she has these back and forth arguments with everyone. She doesn’t back down at all. All throughout the story she doesn’t give an ounce to anyone. She is stubborn, aggressive at times, independent and very narrow minded all these qualities get in the way of her being a good character. I mean it isn’t drawn out it is with everyone she interacts with. I want her to just chill out.
I’m really digging this series. This book didn’t lend me to liking Minka more though. I’m not sure Archer deserves her. Her constant push and pull with him is played out and her inability to compromise was frustrating. I liked the parallel between their situation and the Gage/Garret murder. Overall strong writing and a good story.
Anybody else curious about a 5 year old having been pregnant and already had a baby…
I predicted the murder plot so not much to do there but Iam intrigued about the other case please give us the details despite it not being Malone’s case.
It’s just been two months (I guess?) since their first encounter but Iam sold on romance! I usually find it pretty fast & uninteresting but they give me whiplash.
It still ain’t anywhere near book 1, so hoping for it to get better.
Ps. MIA AIN’T A GUEST APPEARANCE ANYMORE, THAT LADY’S MAIN CHARACTER. Period.
I would love to see this in a Tv series. 2nd time reading this series was gonna just scan through so I could freshen my memory before reading the ones I haven’t read, but then I just had to read it because it’s so damn good. This is one of the reasons I don’t like reading series that’s not all the way finished. because when you have to wait for a book to come out, you forget things. This series is definitely a good read.
This is a wonderful story and a good addition to the series. I really like our leads and to see how much Archer has grown and changed in this story. However, Minka is starting to become obnoxious. I'm not understanding why she has to dig her heels in for everything and how she can't do all the parts of her job. I understand being stubborn but there is such a thing as too stubborn.
I LOVED this book and am loving this series so much ❤️ it’s a new world with new characters and I love them all. Archer and Minka are everything and I am loving the comedic relief Aubree and Fletch provide 😆 sweet little Mia too!! This series gives us everything we need, serious, romance, smexy times, funny times and so much more! Can’t wait for the next one!
Dr. Minka Mayet and Detective Archer Malone love each other, but are at odds with their sinful secrets and how to move forward with their relationship.
A new monstrous crime brings revelations and insight which moves Archer to make a choice.
I’m really enjoying getting to know these fantastic characters and am eager for the next book in the series.
So good to see some characters from other series pop in! Love the sneaky cross overs! Mini Fletch was a shock! - and that’s all I’m saying about this.. but my god I have never been so gripped in a book containing so many deaths! And I’m not even mad about it I am enjoying this so much I can’t stop reading!! This series is so much more than I ever imagined!!
Minka and Archers fight Ramps up to an impasse and we are treated with the best of new characters. Mia is all things good in this world and cannot wait to see her more. Daddy Mayor and the crew are all here too! What an amazing continuation of an amazing story! I can’t put it down!
I think I’ve said this every single time but I was happily attached to Rollertown and did not want to leave. I should have just trusted this author to continue to do what she does best- bring magic to her characters - no matter what city they live in! I LOVE this series!!! Thank you for the magic you continue to create!
Another intriguing mystery in the Mayet Justice series. I loved learning more about Det Charlie Fletcher in this installment. It took me reading three books to work out where I know the name Dr Chant from- was this just a coincidence? Or did the author name this character after a certain doctor….
The story makes your heart hurt. What lengths we will go to for the people we love? What compromises are we willing to make? Love reading Mayet and Archer’s love story! Interesting to see how the case they’re solving parallels decisions the main characters face. How will they choose?
Also really enjoyed the supporting characters and their stories.
4/5 ⭐️ 1/5 🌶️ 2/5 😭 My last review still holds true…”I’m still really enjoying this series. The writing is well done, the plot is fast, and the characters have actual depth! The dialogue is also perfect! Lots of witty and playful banter.” ✔️Medical examiner ✔️Homicide detectives ✔️Graphic murder/torture descriptions ✔️Graphic depictions of autopsies ✔️Implied child SA ✔️Moral dilemma ✔️Dual POV
3.5. Still loving the series but this one was not the best. The back and forth between Minka and Archer is getting tiresome and repetitive. This book dragged a bit. Especially with the crime confession taking place over the majority of the book. Get on with it already. I absolutely love Archer. Minka is a strong FMC but she is frustrating. I find her mean at times to Archer and her friends.
