Two years ago, he broke my heart—and now he’s forgotten all about it.
When my sister goes into labor, what are the chances that the nearest hospital would be the one where my ex, Kevin Bryant, is a surgical resident?
You know—the man who decided being a doctor was more important than love and left me reeling. Hard.
But when we run into each other—quite literally—he falls, hits his head, and wakes up with amnesia.
And he still thinks we’re together.
His brother Connor asks me to pretend we’re dating, just for a little while, so we can ease Kevin into the truth.
But the real truth is that being around this strong, capable man again is making me remember things I would rather forget.
Yeah, hi, my name is Lola, and I’m clearly a glutton for punishment. Because here I am. Pretending with him. Taking care of him.
Kissing him.
Just waiting for the bubble to burst.
Because as soon as Kevin snaps out of this and remembers the past, there WILL be another heartbreak.
And all I’ll have is the memories of what was.

Mini book review My Thoughts 🔹 Closed door second chance romcom 🔹 Prequel to California Dreamin series 🔹 Smut free yet spicy 🔹 Relatable characters
What I loved ❤️ Novella format - less than 150 pages ❤️ Kevin - cute and irresistible ❤️ Sami - this girl had my heart ❤️ Theresa - amazing big sis material
Am looking forward to reading this entire series as it looks promising…
Enamoring Her Amnesic Ex by Kristin Canary is a sweet, second‑chance romantic comedy novella about Lola, a bright, talented woman who is still healing from her breakup with Kevin, the surgical resident who left her heart in pieces two years earlier, until fate drops him back into her life at the hospital where her sister is giving birth and quite literally back into her arms when he slips, hits his head and wakes up with amnesia, convinced they’re still together.
Right from Lola’s first awkward encounter with Kevin I felt the familiar tangle of nerves and nostalgia that comes with seeing an old love again, and Kristin Canary’s light, warm writing made his confusion and her conflicted heart feel real and messy in the best way. Kevin’s amnesia isn’t just a silly plot twist; it becomes a doorway for them to revisit what they had, what they lost and what they might become now that he only remembers the version of their love where they were together. Watching Lola balance doing the “right thing” for someone who once hurt her, while also remembering why she fell in love in the first place, made me smile, sigh and feel genuinely hopeful.
I'd like to commend how the story turns a familiar trope into a compassionate exploration of forgiveness, healing and second chances. Kevin’s earnest desire to make amends once he’s told the truth, and Lola’s cautious but sincere openness to rediscovering him, gave the novella an emotional sweetness. The Princess Bride references scattered through the story added a playful, heartfelt layer that made their connection feel personal and joyful, as though the book itself winked at the reader.
I give Enamoring Her Amnesic Ex 4 out of 5 stars. It made me feel tenderly optimistic about love even after heartbreak, and its clean, swoony tone and gentle character growth were exactly what my heart needed on a cozy reading afternoon. If you like romantic comedies with lots of heart, a little chaos and a second chance at love that sparkles, this quick, delightful novella is a lovely place to start.
This was a great novella, full of emotion, and it told a great story. Sometimes amnesia stories require you to suspend your disbelief a little, but this was one of the more believable ones I've read. It was sweet and swoony and shared the importance of two-way communication.
This was my first book by Kristin Canary, I really enjoyed it! I loved her writing style and storytelling. The characters were likable, fun plot and swoony romance. I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series.
Content Rated G Clean romance, kissing. No language or violence
' “When you do something you love—when you contribute something beautiful to the world—the whole world is better for it." ' (I sadly couldn't post any highlights on this one, so sorry if I go overboard on them.)
Oh my word this was so cute!!! I actually got it for free, and decided to step outside of my comfort zone a little and try it. I don't usually read second chance/ex stories. But this one as so good and I just loved it!! I was waiting for the literal BONK that kick starts the story, and then when it happened... Whoo. This novella was a fun roller coaster of a book, and I blinked and it was over. Like, really. I finished it in less than half a day. I know, I know, this storyline isn't very realistic. The chance that your ex will hit his head and get amnesia and suddenly be two years in the past bringing you back to him is very unlikely, but it makes for a good story. A good, light read that you don't have to think about. I was under the impression hat she has to pretend to be with him the whole book, but luckily she impIulsibly blurts out the truth like 33% of the way in. It did save her from a lot of drama and tension. I'd say this had the perfect amount of tension. Not so much to the point where I'll just Google what happens so I'll stop stressing over it, but the perfect amount where I couldn't put it down but still grew slightly nervous a few times. Get what I'm saying?? Just wanted to share a few highlights because hint hint, I couldn't post them. -+---- “You should do that more often, you know,” I say. “What?” “Laugh.” I bite the inside of my cheek. “You’re so serious most of the time. Don’t they say laughter is the best medicine?” He takes a step toward me, amusement in his eyes. “Who is ‘they’?” “You know. The universal they.” I quirk a grin. “Oh, right.” Another step. “Given their distinguished reputation, I should definitely start taking advice from them.” I stick out my tongue at his sarcasm. “Take advice from me, then.” “As you wish.” And darn it if he hasn’t taken this teasing moment and turned it serious with three little words—words from our favorite movie. ---------- And another one!! “Lo, I absolutely hate that I was so focused on myself two years ago. That I pushed you away when I should have been finding a way for us to be together. That I let go of the best gift the universe ever gave me. And I can’t help but think that by erasing the last few years in my mind, fate is giving me a second chance. A chance to be a different man. To choose differently. To choose you.” ---------- And was he right?? You'll have to read and find out!l
The writing style was perfect for me, (present tense first person), bit I still had trouble picturing a few of the scenes. Mostly the new York ones. The world building does need some working on for any scene outside of her hometown. Lolas voice seemed real, and I was easily lost in the book. My only complaint is how short this is. Look, a novella is nice for SOMETIMES, but I wanted a longer book!!! I want more Lola and Kevin!! But oh my word that wedding was so perfect too. I loved all the princess bride references, and Kevin's nickname for Lola is so sweet!!! It's Buttercup from the princess bride!!
Age rec. 13+ Full constant to come. But the biggest things are some kisses, and a character dies of cancer off the page in the past, some infrequent language
This was such a sweet and fun prequel to the California Dreaming series by Kristin Canary. I loved getting to know Lola and Kevin. Lola and Kevin broke up years ago after Kevin who is a surgical resident at a hospital in San Diego finds out Lola has a brochure from NYU. Lola was heartbroken and getting over Kevin hasn’t been easy but she down into her work as a costume designer and part-time waitress to take her mind of what went wrong. The last thing she expected, or rather the one thing she hoped wouldn’t happen when she goes to meet her new niece at the hospital was to run into her ex … but you don’t always get what you wish for and sure enough there he is.
"I can't help the yelp that comes from my mouth as I stop and peek through the flowers. My traitorous heart - which shouldn't care one fig about the man standing at the nurses' station after he broke my heart into a million pieces nearly two years ago--thumps a happy jig against my chest."
I thought how Lola and Kevin eventually bump into each other was really cute and I loved the spin on the amnesia was that he forgot they had broken up. We’ve all heard of these great love stories where the couple didn’t stay together for whatever reason but in the end the heart wants what it wants and this is a perfect example of this. Lola had convinced herself she was over him but as feeling come back fast and furious she has a hard time deciding if she wants to put herself in a position to be vulnerable and possibly allow Kevin to break her heart again or if this may be the only way to make her heart whole again.
"I'd think my heart would know even if my brain doesn't," Kevin whispers. "And my heart is telling me things aren't over between us."
This book is sweet and fast paced, a perfect sampling of Kristin’s work, if you love this you will adore her California Dreaming series. It was really interesting to see how Kevin reacted when he realized he had no memories of the past 2 years and his disappointment in himself for having ended up where he is – alone. Lola is guarded as one would expect and has a hard time trusting Kevin won’t revert to his old self if/when his memories come back. It was really sweet when he did eventually get his memory back and opened up to Lola about how he had felt after their breakup as well as his regrets. Overall a lovely read, if you are a fan of sweet, clean romance this is for you.
I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Review Prequel of the California Dream series. This one is way back from Evie and Connor story coz it is Connor’s brother Kevin’s story. Loving how he encouraged her to go and pursue her dreams and trying his best to make up his mistakes from the past. The way he tried to get his second chance with her was so sweet. Love that they also tell each other why they choose their career. The way their family cares for them is also very warm. This book really made me cry, laugh and swoon.
You can purchase Kristin Canary's books on Amazon and it is also available on KU.
This was first amnesia story and TBH I wasn't sure if I would like it or not. I'm not a fan of the whole "we used to be in love but you don't remember me" part. It's just so heartbreaking!BUT this one is different!! He thinks they're still together. Second Chance Romance. Princess Bride references. Closed-door romance. Kevin and Lola are just so cute 😍 though they have a lot to work through. I loved getting their backstory after reading LOVING THE LADIES MAN. Such a great story 🥰
💕RCRS: 3 (heavier kissing)
🗨Some Quotes:
I’m not sure I can take a version of Kevin who looks at me the way he did yesterday—like I’m the sun to his moon, the chocolate to his peanut butter, the silk to his wool.
"And anyway, life’s greatest treasures aren’t in the achievement of something or in the completion of some journey. They’re in the journey itself—and that is much better when you experience it with people you love.”
Kevin groans. “Woman, you’re going to be the death of me.”
“I love you, Buttercup. Never doubt it.” “I will never doubt again.” He smiles at my excellent use of a Princess Bride quote and replies in kind. “There will never be a need.” And to prove it, he seals his promise with a kiss.
The cover is lovely. The blurb is enjoyable. I like that the author dedicated the book to her beta reader. The very first word in the title indicates that it's written in American English. I prefer British English, so that's a downer.
I like the beginning of the book. It's always nice to read about a close-knit family, even after marriage. The scene about Kevin fainting was written as if it were from a dramatic TV serial. It's funny instead of being serious.
The plot has potential, but the writing makes it only moderately interesting. Kevin said hurtful, inexcusable things to Lola when he broke up with her. I wish this book was about her finding her true love—someone who's not this jerk; he doesn't deserve a second chance. He's an unapologetic, entitled douchebag who doesn't hold Lola's best interests at heart; otherwise, he wouldn't have asked her to spend more time with him even after learning that he had originally dumped her. This is reinforced by his clipped tone when he gets his memory back. I also hate stupid nicknames like "buttercup."
It's strictly a one-time read. I'm not a fan of second chances, so my rating is probably lower. The book picks up pace towards the end, and there is some semblance of growth for Lola. Kevin remains a lucky jerk.
I have read my fair share of amnesia-trope books, so this one was kind of disappointing to me. I felt like the whole amnesia storyline wasn't written well, especially when he gets his memories back and the focus was more on how he recalled his experience post their previous fallout, I would have loved to know more especially with an alternating timeline to understand the timeframe leading up to the breakup initiated on his part, what happened to the ring, why he never reached out and how he is now open-minded and putting her ambitions first as well. I also felt the epilogue was a big jump (but I understand this is a novella and it was meant to be short), I would have loved to connect with the characters and understand how both of them fixed their relationship with their parent/parents. There were times I found the FMC frustrating when she was thinking the worst always and I also didn't understand the sudden change of mind with her sister when her sister who was warning her to stay away and telling her the what-ifs if his memory was back, was suddenly telling her that now his memory is back doesn't mean he would still want to break up. When and how did this change in her advice suddenly come from?
A neat book. I read the plot and got super excited right away! Getting amnesia & then forgetting that you dumped your girlfriend? Yes!! Very weird/basic plot, but it worked out❤️
Things I DIDN'T love:
I was annoyed with how Lola was always running after this fancy job in New York, 😂 felt that there could've been more conversations between Kevin and Lola, and that too much time was wasted on Lola's older sister pestering her about her life choices.
Kevin is a sweetheart and a really great character overall. His lines were so fun to read and he was a perfect boyfriend. I love in the end where he admits how stupid he was to dump Lola, and how he smelled her hoodie every single day for a couple months after she left. His memories of the last two years returned by smelling Lola's hoodie again!
Lola was not my favorite, but she was okay. The "princess bride" quotes were so cute and perfectly written in; those inside jokes between Kevin and Lola made their relationship feel more real.
Lola: "I thought you were coming here to break up with me." Kevin: "Never again." 🥲🥺🥺♥️♥️♥️
A cute, quick read!!

I really enjoyed reading the story 'Enamoring Her Amnesic Ex' by Kristin Canary. It was an excellent portrayal of a woman who is still heartbroken over the love of her life breaking up with her only to run into him two years later and as a result of a freak accident he thinks they are still together when he regains consciousness. He is still madly in love with her in his new state of consciousness and the doctors persuade her to go along with it until his memory comes back. It is agony for her because she still loves him and would give anything if he could still be this wildly in love with her person like he was two years ago. This is the story that continues from the point where she, out of frustration, breaks the news to him that they are no longer together because he broke up with her. He is horrified and has no idea how he could do such a thing. He even tells her that he had bought an engagement ring for her two years before, but she informs him that he never proposed to her. Instead, he broke up with her. he tries to connect with her again but they don't know what will happen if he gets his memory back and she will lose her soulmate again. It was a very good story.

🩺I really liked this book. I read it in one day because I could just not put it down. I was laughing for most of the book because of the different references. 🎭I really appreciated the depth that the characters had. They had their own history and knew they had to overcome it. As opposed to some books where things are left unresolved, this book tied all the bows. They worked through their issues and had a plan going forward, which I love. 🩺This book was entertaining and fun, with some serious conversations that were realistic.
Oh! What would you do if your ex suddenly got amnesia and believed you two were still together? Would you play along? Well, Lola is put in a place where she can’t get out of. After all, she was the reason Doctor Kevin Bryant had lost his memory and thinks they’re still a couple, even though he dumped her years ago. Oh, the many things that happen with these two. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and seeing how they resolved past issues. I also love how Kevin’s brother, Connor, seems to help, but not really. Their banter is fun and makes the story move along, giving it lots of pop and pizazz. This book also made me think about what it might be like to lose your memory. How difficult it might be. I couldn’t put it down because I was so invested in the lives of these two characters. I really enjoy reading books written by Kristin Canary. She brings such incredible lessons to our hearts through her books. I truly enjoyed this book and highly recommend you pick it up to read.
Lola is a costume designer from San Francisco. She’s had her heart broken by her ex-boyfriend Kevin so when her sister goes into labor two years later and she runs into him at the hospital where he’s a medical resident she’s completely taken aback.
He slips on some water she spills, hits his head, and loses his memory from the past two years. He doesn’t remember breaking up with her and tells her he loves her. Kevin’s brother Connor asks her to play along to help him regain his memory. She says yes with hesitation knowing it will force her to spend time with him and she’s wary.
Old feelings are discovered, new ones are made and big decisions made together. I enjoyed this quick read from Kristin Canary and read it all in one day. Forced proximity stories are always fun. It was a new concept for a book which was refreshing to see. I liked Lola and Kevin and enjoyed watching their progression through healing and feelings. I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
If you're in the mood for a quick, sweet, clean, unique, and fun romcom novella, this is the perfect choice! This is only my second KC book, but I love her ability to create lovable and relatable characters. Even though this was a short read, I was still able to feel for Lola and her struggles with Kevin, her parents, her sister, and her future.
The concept of Kevin having amnesia and having to face the choices he's made the last 2 years, even though he can't remember why, was a nice touch. I really think it could have been 5-star material if it had been a full-length book because I wanted so much more from these two! I also loved the multiple Princess Bride references, especially at the end (IYKYK).
Lola was a wonderful and caring sister and aunt, and her interactions with them pulled at my heartstrings and made me fall even more in love with her.
Overall, it's a fun ride with the ever-anticipated happily ever after. Can't wait to follow Connor's story in the next installment!
BRIEF SYNOPSIS: It’s been two years since Kevin broke Lola’s heart. When Lola runs into him at the hopsital he’s completing his residency at, things are awkward. And become even more so after Kevin slips and falls and gets a concussion that causes him to lose all memory of the past two years. Meaning he thinks they’re still together. After telling him the truth that they’re broken up, Kevin is determined to use this as a second chance to make things right. But is Lola willing to open her heart again?
This was my second amnesia romance (Townshipped by Savannah Scott being the first) and I enjoyed seeing how this one played out. This is a prequel novella to Kristen’s California Dreamin’ series. I really liked Lola’s character. She was such a loyal supportive person and I loved that about her. This was such an interesting take on a romcom and I think it was done extremely well. It made me really excited to read the rest of the series.
Kevin and Lola were the perfect couple, until he unceremoniously dumped her two years ago. He's a trainee doctor and she hasn't quite figured out yet what her career will be, though she'd like it to be in theatrical costume design. When Lola's sister has a baby of course it is in the hospital where Kevin works. They meet in the break room and Kevin ends unconscious. When he wakes up he's forgotten everything from the past two years - the break up with Lola included! Even when he's told he has amnesia he's still in love with Lola and goes out of his way to prove it. But, as she falls back in love, she wonders what will happen when he gets his memory back? It's a nice read with a good heart but I found it overly sweet and lacking in depth. I also thought the title, "Enamouring His Ex", was dreadful - "He Forgot, She Didn't", "Stuck in the Past", "Back in the Day", or even "A La Recerche du Temps Perdu" :) 3 Stars.
Enamoring her Amnesic Ex is a captivating, charming, lovely, sweet, fun, and heartwarming book! It was the perfect story!! I loved everything about this book: from the characters to the setting to the humor and the amnesia. The main character, Lola, has a charming personality and her dream job (Broadway Costume Designer) especially resonated with me because I have a strong background in Theatre. Lola and Kevin, who in the beginning of the book is her Ex, have the cutest relationship, especially when Kevin is dealing with amnesia. Kevin is an endearing, adorable, and a swoon-worthy doctor with a deep tenderness and love for Lola. I absolutely admire their relationship and commitment to one another and their respective dreams by the end of the book. I absolutely love it and could not recommend it more highly to anyone!!!
I was NOT prepared for how emotionally invested I got with this book 📚 . The amnesia 🧠 trope is one of my favorite 🤩(what can I say, I grew up on While You Were Sleeping 😴 ) and this book did AMAZING 😍 with it. I’m so excited to catch up on the rest of the “California Dreamin’” series.
Lola. A costume 🤵♀️ designer who dreams of moving to New York 🍎, going to NYC, and working on Broadway 🎭 . I loved her style and personality: bright ☀️ and colorful 🎨.
Kevin. A resident at a hospital 🏥 , fulfilling his lifelong goal of becoming a Doctor 👨🏻⚕️ . Eye on the prize🏆 , nothing can distract him. Not even his girlfriend. So he broke up 💔 with her, 2️⃣ years ago.
When the two run into each other, Lola spills coffee ☕️ , Kevin slips, and BOOM 💥 the past 2 years are gone and Kevin thinks him and Lola are still dating 😍.
This story has so much emotion🥹. It’s short and a quick read and I loved it 🥰 ! I definitely recommend if you’re busy and want a good short read!
This was such a cute little novella. I loved that it was kind of like While You Were Sleeping, but she didn't have to lie to everyone. It was sweeter that he couldn't believe he'd let her go. I did wish he'd told her something about the break-up, once he got his memories back, since she'd just given him her best guess -I wanted him to confirm the reason he'd broken up, what it was like, how he'd decided, etc. But, other than that, it was well written, and I was impressed with how well developed the characters were, since it was just a novella. I loved that they learned to communicate better, and they both went after their goals/dreams, and supported each other.
Kevin, a surgical resident, & Lola , a costume designer/waitress, broke up but Lola never fully got over it. When they quite literally bump into eachother 2 years later, Kevin finds himself waking up with amnesia and missing all the memories from the past 2 years. He thinks he and Lola are still together, and when he finds out they aren’t, he does everything he can to change that.
It’s a super cute story about second chances, regret & forgiveness, and prioritizing the people you love. Highly recommend!

It was so fun to read a prequel! Lola and Kevin are so cute, and the idea behind this was so interesting. Lola's desire to help Kevin in the beginning is sweet, but as soon as she starts to feel the same feelings, she takes care of herself. Kevin, however, can't remember that they aren't together since he lost the last two years of memories. He still loves her, though, and he proves it when he figures out a way to go to New York with her. I loved how it played out! And I loved seeing Connor in this one, knowing what I know about his story. Loved it!
"That it was real? And if so, what does that say about me … that I would run back to a man who dumped me so callously? Like a mouse living off crumbs of affection, never knowing if more will be dropped on the ground. It’s pathetic, that’s what."
Por lo menos Lola es consciente de que está tonta.
New to me author. Kristin Canary is her rom com author name. She also writes books under her given name: Lindsay Harrel. I absolutely enjoyed this book. The writing was fun and brought me into the mind of the main character. There were silly moments and heartfelt moments. The entire story was endearing and I loved the chemistry between the main character and her “ex.” The way they figured out how to move past the past was great and I will be reading more in this series. Definitely put her on your list if you love a good romance.
Kevin broke up with Lola 2 years ago and now they are meeting in the hospital where Lola’s sister gave birth. After seeing each other in the hospital he works at Kevin falls and has Amnesia. He wakes up thinking they are still together and Lola must decide how to approach this situation. I loved Kevin and Lola's second chance romance. It’s such a fast read. It is also a closed door romance, so if you like close door romance I definitely recommend it.
Synopsis: After two years with a broken heart, Lola meets her ex again and because of an accident, he forgets that they broke up. Now she will help him regain his memory and it will not be easy to open her heart again.
🌶️Heat Level: Just (Swoony) Kisses Make Out Sessions Attraction/Tension: 🔥🔥🔥
My Opinion: I'm still new to this amnesia trope and this one is really cute and well written. It has all the feels, it's swoony and with sizzling kisses. A great start to the series.
