Artifacts, Spells, Flying Horses, Secret Sons, and Hellhounds
Things continue to happen quickly as new and ancient evils twisted with magic attack the police staff at the beach, the morgue, the station, and the museum. It seems like the underworld is taking over as zombies and controlled former humans try to take the good guys down. But just maybe there is hope as teamwork takes on evil to prevent more trouble.
The Devils’ Lover is the fifth book in the Hellbound series. Each of their stories just keep getting better and better. Lionel and Lucifer are sooo much fun to read. I love how Lionel finally opens up. I love how Lucifer will do anything for Lionel!! The plot and steam are perfect for the characters. I adore the character growth, the way their relationship has progressed. And amazing secondary characters, Soul, Jeremy, Nyx, Chandler. Overall, a fantastic read! Well written with that perfect pacing that will hook you and before you know it the story is done. Highly recommend!
I have been loving this series. Lucy and Nelly are absolutely great together and their stories have been amazing. This one is just as great as the previous ones if not better.
The Devil's Lover is the 5th book in the Hellbound series. It brings back our favorite couple Lucy and Nellie. We get to see the rest of the side characters who I consider to be just as well written as the main characters. We always get to be introduced to new people in the series and this book brings us some very interesting new ones. I love how much Nellie has grown and changed in the series. Lucy has grown in character also. I love how Alexa Piper combines a loving couple with a great plot. I would definitely recommend this book.
This series is perfect for when I want something uncomplicated, steamy, but also with a plot. Carrying in from the last book we have a troublesome god making more problems for Nelly and Lucifer. Lots of Lucy just being sweet to Lionel and more of Nelly opening up to Lucy. A couple of great new characters
This is actually the final book in this series. The book order listed everywhere is off. I'm going to go back to my book 1 review of this series and list the correct order.
The series really ends with a bang. There's zombies everyone. Nelly becoming a mini Instagram celebrity, mind controlled people and hinky magic everywhere. It was a fast paced plot with enough twists to keep me entertained. I continue to love sweet, shy Nelly and love sick/obsessed Lucy as a couple. And the supporting characters are phenomenal. Too often authors ignore their secondary characters, but these were really integral to the plot. I loved getting to know Jeremy better and one of the final scenes is Jeremy imparting some advice to Nelly that really helped the necromancer make a big life decision. Trony, Taimet, Christine, Florence are awesome, strong female characters (much appreciated). And there's a newer character, Chandler, with alot of potential. Even Deacon, with his sour attitude and crushed goals is well written. I actually feel sorry for the dude. I mean Nelly is a catch. And Deacon didn't have the goods to snag him. Such a let down for him.
It ends on a good note. And the author promises we'll see these characters again. As a matter of fact she brings back Chander for his own book. It's the start of a new series A Subtle Scar: Psychopomped Book One
And of course I snatched that up and devoured it too.
I hope the author considers a book for Deacon. I feel bad for the dude and want him to get his HEA.
The Devil's Lover is what I've come to know and love about the Hellbound series.
It's fun, sexy and interesting.
My favorite support cast - Trony, the dragon mother, Soul, Christine - is present, alongside new characters Jeremy, Nyx and Chandler. There are fun colleagues, villains with surprising identities, and the presence of Marc is kept to a bare minimum.
I think it's absolutely amazing and heart-warming how Lucifer takes care of Lionel. In The Devil's Lover, Lionel is not afraid to ask Lucifer to take care of him and opens up to Lucifer way more than previously - if not with words, than with touching the devil's wings. Their love has grown so much.
And I just loved that Lionel has developed so much in the series that he now asks for time off to go on holiday/sabbatical. He absolutely deserves it. Go ride a pegasus, Nelly. They're better company than zombies anyway.
True to this series' writing, the work investigation is alternated with intimate and personal scenes between Lionel and Lucifer in just the right amount, and a heavier dose of action towards the end. Soul saves the day again. That's not a spoiler, right? Just common knowledge.
If you liked this series before, you will like The Devil's Lover too. And if you loved it, you will love this.
‘He was mine, and I was his, and when I folded my wings around us both and he opened his mouth to kiss me, nothing else mattered for a little while.’
Book 5 in Alexa Piper’s Hellbound Series, The Devil’s Lover, is an epilogue of sorts. Book 6, The Devil’s Saturnalia, should be read after book 3, to help the continuity of this impressive love story between Lucifer and Lionel.
We have had the chance to watch a truly unique group of paranormals and human live together in this series. The extravagance of the gods and the demigods, plus mythological creatures that capture both good and evil.
Nelly has grown into the complex character that is fighting his natural tendencies as a necromancer that is in love with the devil. And Lucy finds the one being he never really believed would become part of his heart.
The magic in Alexa Piper’s books is the heart and soul that blend into the supernatural—yet human feelings of all. Attraction leads to obsession. Friendship leads to caring. Lust leads to love. The concoction of emotions is mixed with the excitement of the challenges that each character faces, as they learn just how important they are to each other.
The devil and a necromancer meet…they fall in love and solve mysteries. What a series.
I did like the show Lucifer, but I rather wondered what it would’ve been like had the lead character been gay. Now, through this series, I get to find out how it would play out. I do like it a lot.
Lucifer and Lionel make a good pair. They’re kind to each other, considerate and complement each other well. Their love story is cute, too. It’s also pretty hot. Can’t knock that.
This is a mystery and I liked that I wasn’t able to figure out the mystery right away. That kept me in my seat needing to know what would happen next. It felt like there were a few loose ends in this book, but it’s also part of a series and I haven’t read all of the others yet. I wasn’t lost, but there did seem to be a bit that wasn’t rectified at the end.
Still, it’s a hot book and great for an afternoon that’s chilly. If you’re looking for a book featuring the devil and a necromancer, filled with love and sweetness, plus a mystery, then this might be the one for you.
I loved the first few books in this series but it seems like they have slowly gotten more and more "eh". It took almost 4 days to read this because I kept getting bored and reading other books.
There was alot more sex in this book which I normally wouldn't complain about (since it was kinda hot) but it just started randomly and it seemed like it was more important than the plot.
Too many strings left. Why go on and on about the social media thing and the other famous necromancer if you end the book without resolving any of it? Don't even care about the holiday story from 2 books ago thats still not out anymore so that's still there.
This should have been part of book 4 and book 5 should have been all about that other necromancer pulling shenanigans. Or something. Anything really.
Honestly this book just kind of left me completely apathetic and it's such a shame because the first 3 books were absolutely fantastic. Oh well.
Lionel and Lucifer continue to grow, as individuals and as a couple, in this book, and it’s nice to see. It’s great that they’re at a place where their dynamic incorporates care and trust as well as humor and heat, and that’s definitely been a journey for this particular relationship. (For what it’s worth, this book is part of a series, and it’s absolutely worth it to start at the first book to see the characters, their relationship, and a larger plot arc and the world development from the beginning). There are also some awesome supporting characters to enjoy, and overall, a lot to like. Definitely my favorite installment of Lucy and Nellie’s story yet.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
The Devil’s Lover by Alexa Piper is the penultimate book in this series starring Lionel (Nelly) the necromancer and Lucifer (Lucy) the obvious. This book does a good job of balancing the evolving relationship between the main characters and solving an entertaining mystery. The case takes a turn I did not foresee and it made for exciting reading. Part of what I enjoy in this series is its reliance on Greek/Minoan mythology so I get to put my classics degree to work.I’m glad to know there is another Nelly and Lucy story this year and that they will return in a future season. I’ve grown fond of this odd pairing and will wait for their reappearance. I received a free copy of this book from Changeling Press and am voluntarily leaving a review.
So ... 4 stars for the individual book, but 5 stars for the series. Why? I am like that evil English teacher you had in high school who refused to give anyone an A+. I need to be wowed by something special in a story.
Individually each book was entertaining, but read collectively, the world building and mythology is fantastic. I felt like I was reading a mythology book as new events unfolded. I enjoyed the blending and evolution of the myths. I adored all the characters. I don't want to let go of Lucy and Nelly. This ended nicely, but the story just can't be done. I need more.
Lionel and Lucy have another mystery to solve on the beach and then at the morgue which only takes them to the police station for more chaos which ends up leading them to the museum for solving more issues.
This storyline gives you more about them and their relationship and finding out more about Lionel’s magic and his abilities.
Nelly and Beelzebug are so freaking adorable. They make me melt. The zombie factor in this book was so much more gross for some reason. I love it! I love this whole series so much! It's so cool how Nelly's powers keep growing.
I love this series so much! I love Nelly and Lucy so much! And I'm infatuated with the author, Alexis Piper! I wish I had their talent to craft such amazing stories with well-developed characters.
I just keep falling more in love with Nelly and Lucy. With each story in this series i get to see how amazing Lucy and Nelly's relationship is. Great story and fantastic characters.
