Nigeria. The densely packed cities are abandoned and in ruins. Isolated villages survive behind locked doors under constant threat of a war on two fronts; a war the living cannot win. Hidden miles into the desert is a secret weapon that, if unleashed, will bring peace—but at the risk of total annihilation. Undermanned and with scant resources, Michael Talbot's squad of misfits is ordered to retrieve classified data of the utmost imperative.
In a concealed laboratory, buried deep underground, the squad discovers a monstrous super-race that will either be humanity's greatest weapon or deliver a blood soaked end to their existence.
The mission becomes perilous and terrifying; all may not survive.
Above ground, zombies have made startling progress, and the team faces a powerful necromancer who controls an army of the dead. There is a magic here, though, that Michael never dared hope for.
Meanwhile, aboard the floating city, the USS Jimmy Carter, a malcontented faction is hatching plans of violence and insurrection. Even within Talbot's own squad there are mutinous whispers. How many lines will be crossed? What is the price of loyalty and honor? Is it the cost of survival?
Join Michael Talbot, BT, and their daredevil team on a gripping adventure to restore the world to the living!
Hard to believe it's been several years since I completed my last book in the Zombie Fallout series.
That being said, it is remarkable how easy it was to fall right back into the storyline as I began Unearthed, (#19). It felt like being reunited with old friends, and picking up where we left off as if it was yesterday.
Special thanks to Sean Runnette. His continued narration of this series has brought me countless hours joyous listening escapism. Kudos.
Up next: Shores of Despair (Zombie Fallout, #20 =).
Okay, so I gave this one 4 stars. It’s not as good as the last two books, but I still liked it. It had some really cool ideas, but also a lot of the same frustrating stuff that this series keeps doing.
So it starts with them going to Nigeria to get these hard drives from a facility. Right away, I was annoyed because they did that thing again, where they basically removed Tommy almost immediately. It felt like 20 minutes into a movie, and they already sidelined one of the best characters. He stays behind with Grim, who has the flu, which Mike somehow didn’t even notice, which is also annoying.
When they get to the facility, I actually really liked the setting. It gave strong Resident Evil vibes, like an underground lab with multiple levels, weird noises, and blood everywhere. I could picture it really clearly. That part was done well.
But then it turns into the usual problem. Fighting. And more fighting. And it just drags. There were so many points where I thought, okay, this would be a good place to wrap it up, and it just kept going.
What really bothered me is that there were moments that could have been amazing and just… went nowhere, like when Mike finally bites one of those ape creatures. After 19 books, I thought, okay, this is it, we’re finally going to see something happen with his vampire side. He even describes the taste and everything, and then… nothing. No power boost, no consequence, nothing. It just falls flat. That was super disappointing.
The zombie versus ape fight was actually really cool, but of course, that part didn’t last long enough. The parts that are interesting never get enough time, and the parts that drag on go on forever.
Also, the whole mission itself just didn’t make sense. They’re supposed to be looking for something related to a cure, and instead, they find a lab making genetically engineered monkey soldiers. Like… what does that have to do with anything? At this point, it’s obvious Eastman is not telling them everything, and it’s frustrating that Mike keeps going along with it. He already knows something is off, and he still just follows orders.
Then we get the zombie queen, which was honestly one of the more interesting parts. She makes a deal with Mike, helps carry Tommy with a bulker, and gives them until sundown before fighting again. It’s weird, but I liked it.
Tommy gets really hurt, and Rose ends up telling everyone he’s a vampire. I expected that to turn into a whole thing, but surprisingly, everyone is just like, okay, we don’t care. They even offer their blood to help him, which was actually a really nice moment for once. It felt earned.
Then there’s that creepy cemetery where the zombies won’t go, and they meet that healer woman who can tell what Mike and Tommy are. She heals Tommy and tells Mike he has about ten years if he wants to reverse being a vampire, and that his soul can come back. That feels like a huge deal, but of course, it’s just kind of dropped there.
When they get back, Eastman is still acting shady, and now we find out there might be zombies on the ship. Mike even gets warned that if he goes into certain areas, they’ll shoot him. And then the book ends with someone knocking him out, so clearly something bigger is going on there.
Now, the part that really confused me but also got me interested again is the stuff with Azil.
So she starts reading the journals and talks to Tommy, and he’s like, none of this ever happened. That’s when it finally clicks that we are not in the same timeline anymore.
When Tommy goes to see Mike, his dad is alive, which shouldn’t be possible. Mike is also completely different. He’s angry, bitter, hates being a vampire, and is straight up hostile to Tommy. It’s not the same Mike at all.
Then they look at the journals, and Mike says he didn’t write that stuff about the ship, but it’s his handwriting. That part was actually really interesting, but also confusing. Like, I don’t fully understand what’s going on, but I want to know.
At the same time, Azil is dealing with her own stuff. There’s a warlock involved now, and he’s teamed up with McGowan to go after her. Mac, Wilkins, Elam, and Penver want to help her, and at first she says no, but then she agrees. The book ends with them deciding to fight instead of leaving, basically saying Mike will have to wait.
So yeah, overall, this book had a lot of the same problems, but it also had some really interesting ideas. The timeline stuff is confusing, which I don’t love, but it’s finally something different, and it actually made me curious instead of just annoyed.
Not as good as 17 and 18, but still solid.

awesome again. so glad to read more of the ZF series
Once again, Mark has done it. Absolutely love this series. I never want it to end. The writing is awesome: suspense and humor. The storyline carries the reader into the story. Love love the ZF series. Cannot waits for book 20.
I love zombie fallout and am immensely grateful that the story continues. I truly hope that mark tufo doesn't get tired of writing zombie fiction about talbot and the gang. Also the talbotsodes.!
There is only thing that I hate about Mark's books and that is they come to an end. If you have not read this series, you should. You will find yourself horrified, terrified, laughing one moment and on the edge of your seat the next. Excellent series.
Multiverses isn’t some something new in the fallout world and I love it. Few books back I was a bit saddened on how BT and Mike went separate ways after all that time together. Now I’m hoping with all that’s unfolding maybe just maybe everyone will get their somewhat of a decent ending.
Love your books and your Warped sense humour. You make me laugh ouy loud and bring a tear to my eye.I've read most if not all of your books and I still want more please
What can I say , if your looking at reviews for the 19th book in this series, then your as much a fan as I am . Love these books , long may they continue.
Yet again, another fantastic addition to the series. A mission to Nigeria to collect data that will help with a cure. A new addition of an enemy called Uffiti… apelike creatures.

While I always love a good zompoc/Talbot book, this one got a TINY tedious with the escape from the lab. I’ll leave it at that so no spoilers. Still a fun book though
Mikes arrogance at times annoys me but I appreciate how good of leader and friend he is. Hard to believe how close I am to finishing this series. Mark Tufo is an incredible author.
Same thing; different day plus a new creature. There was one huge laugh ( with a capital L) in a gothic cemetery and many smaller ones elsewhere. I’m just a sucker for these mindless zombie books.
It is ALL here! Favorite characters are back, incredible action and storytelling, and of course, the snark and humor that makes these books so good! I absolutely loved it and already canno5 wait to read what happens next! EXCEPTIONAL!!!
