Oh, wow, this was unexpected!

This is the story of Luc and MJ, as they have a little fight in line at the coffee shop and find themselves later that day thrown in the same circle. Pushed by their rich parents into doing volunteering work, they get tangled in Chicago politics, all while building a wonderful relationship.

I was expecting a novella in Anna Ray's fashion but this was so much more!
This book is not a short one by any means, it is complex, encompassing, keeping you on your toes, filled with so much detail! The level of detail is definitory, you get to know so many insights into the thinking of the main characters, even the side ones are so well developed and appear in so many scenes, you get to know them very well. As the story involves an Italian family, you get all the array of cousins, and aunts and, of course, the grandmother, by the end of the book you get attached to the bunch.

Both the hero and the heroine are so likeable. At first, she seems too shy, too much of a victim of her circumstances and he a bit too harsh, but as the story goes she is sassy and strong, he is charming and such a good man, and when they come together their deep love, care and protectiveness for each others shines beautifully through the pages. There are moments of intimacy and of deep emotions so wonderfully written, so sharp and vivid and tangible, it's a work of beauty!

I found this book so complex, the plot goes in unexpected directions and makes you keep on reading. It's an entire world built here, and the story gets you so deep into it.
There is, also, something here that it's rare, and that's the presence of another love story along with the main characters' one. Those glimpses of chemistry and heated scenes feel like I present and they made me appreciate this book even more. Can't wait to read Knox and Silvia's story!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

LUCIANO CASTELLI is the first book in Anna Ray’s contemporary, adult DANGEROUS MAFIA ROYALS Mafia romance series. This is twenty-six year old, heir to the Castelli family Luciano Castelli, and twenty-four year old artist Marie-Joelle ‘MJ’ Rouleau’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Luc and MJ) following several intersecting paths, LUCIANO CASTELLI focuses on the enemies to lovers relationship between twenty-six year old, heir to the Castelli family Luciano Castelli, and twenty-four year old artist Marie-Joelle ‘MJ’ Rouleau. Luciano Castelli knew the moment he met MJ Rouleau, the stubborn woman at the neighbourhood café all bets were off until a chance encounter at a political fund-raiser resulted in a six-week, parental enforced ‘volunteer’ working arrangement wherein our couple will work side by side both in and out of their volunteer duties. Luciano Castelli had rattled the ire of a deviant politician, and was thusly serving penance at Whippenhouse Hall, and our heroine was about to pay the price for Luc’s desperate attempts to take down the man he verbally attacked at a media affair. As Luc and MJ’s relationship turns personal, our couple find themselves targeted by the man in charge, and in an effort to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love, Luc is willing to sacrifice himself, taking the blame for everything and more. What ensues is the slow building romance and relationship between Luc and MJ, and the potential fall-out as a politician on the take, takes aim at our story line couple.

Meanwhile, MJ’s best friend, and Luc’s cousin Silvia Solarino is battling between head and heart knowing her best friend is falling for the son of a Mafia Don. Silvia has reason to ‘hate’ the Castelli family, but her current employer is forcing Silvia into a corner, and Silvia is desperate to keep secret sins of the past. At the same time, businessman and MJ’s friend Knox Hargreave is fighting demons of his own as he begins an investigation into political corruption, an investigation that reveals a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Knox’s connection and relationship with MJ is disquieting and concerning.

The relationship between Luc and MJ begins acrimoniously as our couple spit fire and fury within minutes of their first encounter. MJ is an artist who refuses to tow the proverbial line where her father is concerned, and Luc has pushed the buttons of head of the family, one too many times. Forced to work together, Luc and MJ find themselves in the unenviable position to ferret out the who, how and why, but by doing so place a target on their backs, and quite possibly, a target on the charity where they have ‘volunteered’ to work. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including MJ’s father Rupert Rouleau; Luciano’s father Vico Castelli; cousins Tulio, and Ciro; MJ’s best friend attorney Silvia Solarino, and businessman Knox Hargreave; Illinois state Rep Eamon Dempsey, and his nephew Gilroy, as well as a large assortment of people coming in and out of our couple’s lives. Knox and Silvia’s storyline is next.

LUCIANO CASTELLI is a lengthy and protracted story line of family and friendships; betrayal and vengeance; secrets and lies. The premise is entertaining and captivating; the slow building romance is impassioned; the characters are dynamic, lively and spirited. The world building (including family history) and character building are detailed and extensive (secrets are revealed) as a considerable amount of time focuses on the couple-the majority of the action and conflict takes place in the final third of the book. In my opinion, LUCIANO CASTELLI would have been better suited as a trilogy, and not as one single, lengthy and expanded story line.

Obsessed with this world. 100% Anna Rays best work. The world building and the characters in this book are the best she's written in my opinion. I couldn't put this book down. I like that it's not super heavy mafia. There a great love story between Luc and MJ, and the other characters have. a big part in this book.

The details in this book are what I love when reading, Anna has definitely put everything I love about reading mafia into this book. It's super long, the development is great. Super gripping read.

Before I tell you what this book is about I am just gonna reveal to you that it is about 900 pages long (according to Amazon it is 919 pages). There are 62 chapters, and when I opened it on Kindle I was sure that this was a mistake. But well, here I am - I made it through, writing this review and now that you are warned abouts it's length, let's get to it.
It's an early morning when two of Coop's caffe regulars, desperate for a cup of liquid hug, wait in line seeing each other for the first time.A quick conversation between them and you can see sparks fly- it's definitely from the banter between them. When soon after that attend the same event and are forced to work together, artist MJ and mafia prince Luc find themselves growing closer. But with their wealthy families and corrupt politician(s), their relationship isn't the only thing  keeping them occupied.

This book is different to the one's Anna Ray wrote and I read of her before this one. It is a much more detailed story, the characters are more complex and you really get to see what they are thinking. And even though the book is told by Mj's and Luc's perspective and it's about their story, you get to see some side characters and the more you read the more you get invested in them and their lives as well. I found it really cleverly written, and if the author continues writing more books about the Castelli's this book will work as a really well introduction story. Plus I think that the ones who already read this one are looking forward to more of these family stories .
The story is interesting, the characters are relatable and enjoyable and you get the feeling of being there with them. I absolutely love the craziness surrounding Luc's family- all the cousins and their Sicilian mafia family relationship. My only issue with this book was that at some times I felt like there was too much detail and with that (for me) came not knowing what was happening.  Even with that this was a good story that suited me and although I wish it was shorter I am glad I read it.

*Thank you NetGalley, Anna Ray and BooksGoSocial for a free ARC.

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with!
By the time you’ve figured out who is who and how deep hate can run, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter!
Can’t say I didn’t warn you.
(Believe me when I say you won’t put it down until the last page is read…you will find yourself getting upset cause someone called, texted or bothered you while reading this one, you will find yourself up at ungodly hours just to finish it knowing you have to be at work early (like 3am early) the very next day) YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
Luc is this sexy as all get out, not your typical Mafia, controlling, bossy and your usual hothead but he can also be sweet and kind. MJ is a shy artist, insecure about herself, stands up for herself when pushed and a little spicey from the moment they meet the chemistry is intense and the magnetic pull won’t/can’t be ignored. They meet while in line for coffee they day continues, and they find themselves thrown together by their parents who are attempting to manipulate the situation not realizing the chemistry alone between the two of them would have pulled to each other regardless, but will they continue to be manipulated and can they find happiness on their own?

This was a long, emotional book and quite frustrating at times but nevertheless a great story, well written.

MJ Rouleau was the daughter of cold, controlling and very wealthy Rupert Rouleau.

Luc Castelli was the son of high powered Chicago mafia boss Vito Castelli. Luc was tough on the outside but he also had a heart and a wonderful supporting family.

MJ had graduated from Yale but much to her fathers chagrin she wanted to follow a career in art, her father was determined to put all obstacles in her way.

When MJ and Luc met in a coffee shop there was animosity from the beginning, they hated one another on sight.....but did they, not many people said no to Luc, MJ was a challenge.

When their fathers both agreed that MJ and Luc should work together on an arts project none of them were prepared for the evil that they were going to face.

Despite their differences, MJ and Luc grew closer together in a joint cause, to rid Chicago of the unscrupulous people who wanted power.

The love between MJ and Luc was smouldering but all consuming.

This story has many captivating characters, each of which could have their own story, it twists and turns in so many directions, each time you think a conclusion is in sight another hurdle appears, each one higher than the last.

I was a little disappointed that the story left so many loose ends but I realise that there must be a follow up book which I will look forward to.

I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.

What a read this was. I had expected your usual Mafia romance, which of course this is and I do really like, but this was far more than I expected. It probably helps that this is an enemies to lovers story, which I do really enjoy. MJ and Luc really don't like each other when they first meet, but of course, the line between love and hate is a thin one. They are certainly far from indifferent about one another. Even when they begin to thaw towards each other, this isn't an instant reconciliation. They have much to overcome before they become lovers.
Compared to similar books, this romance is a drawn-out one and is all the more delicious for it. It burns slow, but hot. Luc is lovely. Dark and brooding, but with a soft centre that he tries, and fails to conceal. He and MJ make a fantastic couple, they work so well together, even when you're left frustrated that they just can't seem to see where they should be going.
That isn't all this story is. There is also an underlying suspense element. While much of this is dealt with in this book, don't expect it to be all wrapped up by the last page. There's more to come, I assume in the next book. I think it will deal with MJ and Luc's friends Knox and Silvia. Either way, I'm looking forward to reading it.
This was a wonderful read and one that left me quite sad that it had finished when I reached the last page. I hope that it won't be long until I get to return to Luc and MJ's world.

This is my first read of Anna Ray, and I must say I am a fan. I am so impressed with her writing style. She writes very descriptively, and her writing reminds me so much of F. Scott Fitzgerald that I found myself highlighting text just because it was so beautiful. Not my typical. I'm not sure if it's because the FMC is an artist, or if this is Ray's style. I very much hope for the latter.

This is a very long book. I was honestly surprised that this is about a 15 hour read. Much longer than I'm used to, but I wasn't disappointed by that.

This is labeled as an enemies to lovers mafia romance, so I went into it with some preconceived notions. I expected the typical alpha-male mafioso lead character with a thousand notches under his belt and a virgin FMC that he dominated into love.

This was so anti-typical mafia romance. There isn't a whole lotta steam in this book, so if that's your jam (and honestly that's usually mine) look elsewhere. This is a real romance. The MMC loves his family, his Nonna (pitter patter!) and falls for the FMC. What I really liked about this book is that it portrays real people at their age falling in love. Not the typical mafia story of a man dominating a woman. It reminded me so much of being in love at that age and relating to every conversation and thought of each main character.

I highly recommend it.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "LUCIANO CASTELLI"
This story grabs you from beginning to end intrigue, suspense, danger, manipulation, steam, mystery, betrayal, twists that make for a very addicting story.
Luciano Castelli is son of powerful Mafia Boss Vito Castelli he can be arrogant alpha gorgeous male thats what he shows the outside world inside he can be kind hearted especially with family.
MJ Rouleau is shy, insecure, caring but she has a sassy side also she graduated from Yale her father harsh man Rupert Rouleau not happy about her career choice in Art he does everything he can to sabatoge that.
MJ & Luc's fathers manipulate these two to work on a project together hey couldn't be anymore different but they become closer as they work together I love their chemistry is sizzles.
I definitely recommend to get this amazing book so much happens MJ & Luc find themselves involved in a plot with a corrupt politician who won't hesitate putting them, friends & family in danger.
This is a must have book you don't want miss reading it won't disappoint I'm looking forward to Sylvia & Knox's book maybe some unanswered questions will be revealed in their story. AWESOME AWESOME READ!!!!!

WOW!!! I’m not even sure where to start. This is the story of Luciano (Luc) and MJ. I really enjoyed reading this story as it wasn’t your typical dark mafia romance. Luciano is a young, headstrong, hotheaded, but yet, has another side to him that was very unexpected. MY is an artist who is shy, insecure, yet feisty. When Luc and MJ meet for the first time, the fireworks were there, but the banter between them was HOTTTT!!! No one had ever stood up to Luc like MJ did. The attraction between them was instantaneous, but because both were stubborn, it did not turn out the way either wanted. Luc and MJ have underlying issues to work out, and both think that they are not good enough for the other.

Great story with great characters, passion, chemistry, suspense, betrayal, intrigue, mystery, family, and loyalty. I really hope because the way the book ended, that there is more to this story to include Knox and Silvia’s story. A long paged journey well worth the read!

Wow. Okay so this book...is LOOOOOONG! I thought I was just confused and then realized there are actually 92 chapters and an epilogue. I'm sure that can be discouraging for some but I recommend you stick it out.

This book had such a great level of humor, I was in tears 😂 SO many times. Luc and MJ are such a great mix together with their dry/brutal/sappy humor/feels combination. I loved Luc so much, he's determined he's the bad guy but he's clearly an anti-hero and he's fantastic. MJ goes from wallflower to vixen and it was a joy to watch her emerge from her shell.

Yes this book is long, but there is so much going on and dragging you in that you breeze through it and find yourself wanting more still. I've loved everything I've read by this author and I dare say of all her books, I'd love to see a film adaptation of this one. Mini series even, these characters would light up the big screen. Give it a shot, you won't regret it!

This book is long like many reviewers have stated, but it just felt a lot longer to me. I've read long books, so it wasn't the length. The story wasn't as exciting for me. First, MJ is an artist so I belive Ms. Ray obviously wanted to describe the world through MJs artists' eyes which makes sense. But then her descriptions are poetically long and I felt that this is why the story was very long. Due to the attention to detail. Sometimes the transitions from one chapter to the next were harsh. Other times it was hard for me to keep up with the dialogue and I didn't know who was speaking. The first intimate scene happens at about 70% and I was hoping for this deeply romantic scene after all that time but it wasn't. MJ and Luc kept talking. I don't know. After all that waiting it was this big build up and it didn't seem that they were consumed by desire. Also Luc was wary of relationships because of a past experience but that didn't seem to play into his relationship with MJ apart from putting him in a foul mood.

It’s a long book and although there have been moments that it was a little too much, in the end it has been worth it.
Luciano and MJ meet by chance in a cafe and the first impression is not good.
Later their respective parents force them to work together and things don’t seem to improve.
But when they finally put their fears aside, shut their big mouths, stop being stubborn and let themselves be carried away by their true feelings, things between them becomes the most romantic and 🔥.
But they find themselves immersed in a plot with a corrupt politician who will hesitate to endanger their lives, their friends or their families.
A great start to what promises to be an interesting series.
I’m dying to read Knox and Sylvia’s book, as there are still questions to be resolved, like for example:
Who is Mr. Dragon?
What will happen between Sylvia and Knox?
It will be discovered if all the families are related to what happened to Knox’s parents?
I also hope to see Luciano and MJ’s wedding.😍

I received a free ARC from Hidden Gems for the promise of an honest review.

It was good. It was not a dark.mafia romance. I do like that the author did not the Castelli Family your typical mafia but more of a modern mafia. To me a modern mafia is hidden in plain sight but hides behing legit businesses and are overly violent but find othe ways to take out their enemies.

Luc and MJ are a unique couple. They rubbed each other the wrong way to where you think they hated each other on sight. Then their fathers volunteered them to work together for a charity. They had to see each other every day and turn the charity around. They called a truce but discovered a friendship as they worked together. They also discovered that things aren't what they seem at the charity. First the charity's director disappears. Then they are threatened. MJ and Luc have to work together to clear their names.

Thank you BookSirens for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really really liked this book. I would say though that it didn’t read like a mafia romance at all. There was an interesting kind of mystery that carried the plot, which I definitely appreciated. The main character behaved like a high school rich boy, not at all like a “mafia prince” as he was referred to sometimes in the book. I loved the hero’s family, how close they all were and how they became our heroine’s family, too. I also liked the heroine and her profound love for art.
The worst part of the book for me was the length. It just never ended!! It could have done with a good one or two hundred pages less.
All in all, I’d read another book from the author, although I’m not interested in the next book in this series.

MJ and Luc couldn't have been more opposite, MJ liked the simple things yet seemed oblivious at times whilst Luc showed a cocky side to the outside world, but inside felt more than most. One coffee shop disaster day was what it took for them to be introduced and become enemies yet neither knew who the other was till they are forced to work on a new public art project for MJ its her fathers testing her for the future for Luc its to pay his dues. what will become of the pair when working in close quarters? this is well written with a very in depth story line. this books a big one so be prepared to bein it for the long haul! though the characters make it all worth it with their sassy banter.

Buckle up for an in depth journey with Luc and MJ (Marie-Joelle) meeting for the first time at the Coop (a coffee shop in Wicker Park). They both are having bad days despite being first thing in a morning, neither making a great impression on each other. Luc attempting to flirt and get under her skin whilst MJ channels her rebellious side, rebuffering his charm. Each having their own having their own issues with their fathers, something that comes out as they end up at the same charity gala that evening and are both volunteered to work on a charity event together.

Following them battling their own demons as well as overcoming obstacles and chalks thrown in their paths. Attempting to get over their first impressions of each other and form a friendship. Slowly acknowledging their feelings for each other, a slow burn romance that has you rooting for them but also wishing that they would just get together already. With a bigger picture scam happening Luc is willing to do anything to protect his family and most importantly MJ.

Luc is an all alpha, hotheaded mafia prince who looks like a badazz bad boy biker.
MJ is a insecure, caring and shy artist but once you get to know her her firecracker personality peeks through.
Forced to work together they stumble onto corruption within the city hall and charities. As the pieces begin to fall in place their lives are put in danger.
A slow burn enemies to lovers story that keeps you intrigued throughout the story with mystery, suspense, corruption, murder, love in this action packed drama. Not a quick read. Can't wait for Knox and Silvia's story.

DNF 14%, which was at chapter 14 and 2.5 hours into the book. The plot was supposed to be enemies-to-lovers mafia romance, but between the female mc’s constant starting and overly descriptive internal ramblings, and the male mc’s childishness, I just could not get invested in seeing whether or not they work out. Luc mentioned his cousin forcing him to take on cats one too many times, and what I am guessing was supposed to be his sense of humor was just not funny.

Hopefully this gets fixed for the final release, but the formatting of the book made it difficult to read, but as long as it is, it would be even longer if they had not crammed so many words on a page.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Man it’s either hot or cold with this author, either amazing smut and no plot or a decent plot and fade to black. While this book was unnecessarily long, the plot was pretty good. I’m such a sucker for mafia romances and this one had such strong potential with the slow burn enemy to lovers romance. I was all for it and when the two finally did the deed, it was FADE TO BLACK?!? In a mafia romance? No no, if this had mixed amazing smut with this plot and shorter, this book would have been amazing. That being said, I freaking LOVED Luc and MJ, their hate, their friendship, their pining ugh so good. I enjoyed reading this book and it crushed me at parts. Just wish there had been more smut.

RECEIVED THIS FREE ARC FOR AN HONEST REVIEW! TRIGGERS: ASSAULT, SEXUALLY ABUSE, ROHYPNOL. This book is so slow. Romance is slower than that. When the book does finally heat up… it becomes fire. It takes a lot of patience to get there. Luc and MJ. He's the mafia prince and she's the spoiled artist princess. They're extremely attracted to each other but have a meet - "rude" and that's when Sparks fly. I would say the book is ninety-give percent political drama and shenanigans, murder, mystery and a little bit of junior investigator work. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing, it was just a lot. The book is long. Really long. I had to take several breaks in order to get through. But I really recommend you finish the book. I just wish the romance took more of the forefront of the story.

This book was a roller coaster! And like a roller coaster I loved every minute of it! This book starts of slow at first but gradually gets more intense and sucks you in. This is a different version of Mafia Romance than readers are used to but it was so beautifully written.
The loyalty between Luciano and MJ is something we all hope to have in our lives with the people closest to us. The story between these to characters and the growth between them and as individuals was what made this book such a good read and so hard to put down.
This book is 18+ because of its little bits of intimate scenes

Wow this was an unexpected but deliciously good read! An enemies to lovers mafia romance with so much steam just leaping of the pages. Luciano and MJ have such sizzling chemistry! I laughed, I cried and I found myself falling in love with the characters. This book is not what you would expect from the typical mafia romance. Luciano & MJ can't stand each other when they meet but you can feel the tension hovering on the surface. Probably one of my favorite reads from Anna Ray. I will defintely be reading more of her books!
Thanks Netgalley for the chance to read this book!

Luc and MJ should have never clicked or fallen for each other, but they did. This book encompasses the Castelli and Rouleau families and their various relatives. Some of these secondary characters would make excellent main characters for future books. Descriptive narratives and world building were excellent. Thee characters are bold and strong. The storyline is complex at times, but the twists and turns keep it extremely interesting. Well written “Enemies to Lovers Romance!”

Luciano Castelli is a first book in the Dangerous Mafia Royals by Anna Ray. I fell in love with Luc and MJ. They aren't perfect and do have their weaknesses. Their relationship is special and really blossoms.

The book is a long one (over 700 pages) but as a reader you won't mind it because the story is very detailed. Anna Ray gives just want we need to step into that world. This mafia romance was exactly as I like them. Can't wait for the next book in this series.

This book is an extended Mafia romance. Definitely not a quick read, but so worth the time. This book has a slow build up of the relationship between Luc and MJ. Mafia romances are my favorite genre and this one was epic and unique. Filled with dark drama and suspense, as well as great chemistry between the characters. I would say that this is worth reading again and again. Loved it.
