"Follow the Devil" by Patrick McNulty is a masterclass in storytelling.
From the very first page, it grips you and doesn’t let go. The cold open is one of the most enthralling I’ve read in a long time—it leaves a sinking feeling in your stomach that lingers throughout the novel, resurfacing again and again as the story unfolds.

Amid the gut-wrenching action and brutal scenarios, there’s a surprising depth of character development and world-building that makes the experience even more immersive. The dialogue feels natural and sharp, and each character stands out as memorable in their own right. The way their individual stories weave together and evolve should honestly be studied in creative writing classes—it's that well done.

Overall, Follow the Devil has easily become one of my favorite reads of the year. Patrick McNulty has crafted something truly special here, and I can confidently say I’d join the Patrick McNulty super-fan club in a heartbeat. I’m already counting down the days until his next release—I can’t wait to see what else he has in store.

A short book but an excellent surprise.

The book is filled with action from start to finish. War vet has to help the local police save a kidnapped young woman.

What I liked:
-Believable action
-A scene of diving in cold water to save a bad guy.
-A scene of chasing a bad guy in the city.
-Overall just a fun read.

What I didn't like:
-Just too short.

Follow the Devil By Danny Devlin Thriller

Follow the Devil is a fantastic fast paced thriller novel. I knew this is going to be a great read from the first line itself. The opening lines were ...
𝘙𝘶𝘣𝘺 𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘳 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘪𝘦. 𝘈𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵...

Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop until I finished this book. I am so glad that it not only met my expectations but even exceeded them. It is a very enjoyable thriller and is a quick read that I devoured in slightly more time than an hour.

The plot is brilliant but even more brilliant is the author's ability to create so many characters and doing justice with them, making them play their respective roles in the book. I got small town thriller vibes from this book while reading it although the kidnapping took place in Seattle and the story proceeded in Bristol Falls.

Devlin's character is the most intriguing out of all the characters and he is certainly the hero of the story. Ever since his character was introduced in the book, I liked him for his protective and kind nature and had so many questions about his past and wanted to know his character more. The author has succeeded in penning down an awesome thriller with not only a thrilling and enjoyable story but also amazing characters, especially the main characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, it is a fast paced read that you can finish reading in no time. It will provide an immersive experience and you will love the vibes. If you're going through a reading slump, books like this one can really help you and if you're a thriller fan, don't miss out on it.

Patrick McNulty has done it again! "Follow the Devil" captivates you and holds your attention from page 1. "Follow the Devil" follows the story of the Senator's daughter being kidnapped. However, this is just the beginning. In the process of looking for the Senator's daughter, one of the FBI's most wanted criminals is captured. However, he doesn't have the Senator's daughter. If he doesn't have her, then who does? Does he know where she is? Can they even trust anything he says? You will find yourself asking more and more questions as this action-packed story unfolds.

Danny Devlin makes an appearance as the loner tough guy that just wants to be left alone. However, he seems to be a magnet for trouble. So, of course it's only natural that Danny Devlin would find himself racing the clock, with all odds against him, looking for the Senator's daughter. The question is will she be found in time or will they all be too late?

I highly recommend reading this book yourself to find out. Patrick McNulty did an amazing job keeping you captivated and fully emersed in his writing the entire time. My review honestly doesn't do this book justice, but I can tell you I am absolutely looking forward to book 2 coming out. Go buy this book now, I promise you won't be disappointed!

A thriller thick with action, suspense, and twists that will leave you reeling. This story was so much fun.

Danny Devlin is a character I fell in love with in the first paragraph I met him. I’d like to compare him to a grittier Borne or Bond, but there really isn’t a character like Devlin. He’s a flawed loner that is masterful at combat and deduction, equal part brawn and brains. His voice is reminiscent of old cowboy badasses that are a hearty mix of Tarantino and Larry McMurtry.

The premise of Follow the Devil appears relatively simple at first. A kidnapped girl hidden in the mountains, a political shitstorm of powerplays and vengeance, and a lurking, hulking villain. It has shades of Silence of the Lambs, but ramps up the tension with nonstop action in an isolated setting. The cast of characters are phenomenal, McNulty masterfully creating endearing or hateful personalities in a concise word count. You will love or hate every one of them.

I highly recommend this book.

This started full throttle and never let up. Danny is a fantastic character, a war veteran with a set of particular skills.

A senator’s daughter is kidnapped to pay for her father’s political decisions by a mercenary called Merrick. When he goes shopping in a small town for groceries to keep her alive in an isolated mountain cabin, he is captured and makes a deal with the FBI to give her up to escape the death penalty. As the local police and Danny are drawn in it becomes difficult to know whose side everyone is on.

High octane chases, brutal violence and non stop twists as it speeds towards the explosive finale.

A book that could easily fit on the big screen. Patrick gives us Danny, a tough action hero who is trying to do the right thing. For some reason, I kept the picture of him as John McClain, played by Bruce Willis, from Die Hard. A man's man. The chases, violence, and twists of the story keep you hooked from the start. Ruby is such a good character to root for, and Merrick is the guy you can't help but hate. In all, this story keeps your heart pumping and pages turning. I can't wait to see more adventures with Danny Devlin.

Such a fantastic, gripping read! I wish I could give it more than 5 stars! This was a twisted, fast-paced, interesting story, that I found I did not want to put down! It had a unique plot and well-developed, multi-faceted characters. It was suspenseful, thrilling and addictive! I was glued to my Kindle screen from the first page to the last. You CANNOT miss out on reading this book!!!

I could not put the book down! I started reading and read until I was done. It is a thrills minute book and I loved. it draws you in and keeps you.

Ruby a Senators daughter has been kidnapped. No ransom demanded, yet. Who are the kidnappers? What do they want? Why? Where is she? So many questions to answer. If she can escape, how? She is bound and unable to get out.
I love Danny Devlin too, he was amazing, tough and I wouldn't want him chasing me down to get Justice.

If you enjoy psychological thrillers, you will love this book Follow The Devil by Patrick

Tough guy

Danny Devlin is a force to be weary of. His special military background makes him a deadly man good thing he's on the good side of humanity.

I received this novel through ARC. This is my review. Danny Develin is retired from his "work" and yet again he is thrust into a bazaar kidnapping with some real wacko's. Great characters fast paced and a strong storyline. A satisfying read, one that rings true. Loved it!

I do not normally make a habit out of reading books like this, however, when my eyes reached the final page, the indescribable urge to read more was overpowering. The author beautifully displays his ability to constantly keep the reader on the edge of their seat, while simultaneously getting them to fall in love with the characters. Overall, to say that I was pleasantly surprised, nay, impressed, does not nearly begin to encapsulate the brilliant novel that is Follow the Devil. I would suggest it to any thrill seekers out there!
