Cadet Ryan Lee, fresh from graduation at the Academy, boards the FCSS Lovell for his first mission into space, not knowing that it would lead to a great adventure. A mid-space accident cripples the ship, leaving Midshipman Lee in charge, struggling against his own insecurity and inexperience to get the ship and it's surviving members home safe and sound.
Within the first five pages, I had to smile. I was instantly comfortable with Bagley's writing style. Sometimes it just hits you and you find yourself looking forwards to the next time you pick up the book and start reading. This doesn't happen to me often, and I was happy to get that feeling again.
Jack Bagley does not disappoint as he weaves a science fiction story that compares to some of the best that I have read. The story moves along at a good pace and the characters are well-written and developed.
There really isn't anything bad I can say about Apprentice Cruise, as I thoroughly enjoyed it. I look forward to the next book that Bagley puts out. If you want to read a good Sci Fi story that reminded me a little of Robert Heinlein's style, pick up this book.
