4.5 stars. Such a fun book! I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful story and the equally delightful illustrations. I think I would have very much liked it when I was in the target age range too. I loved that there was a short quiz and activity included, and the magical animals were fun to read about--as was the friendship. Charming and fun!

Such a good kids book. It teaches us how you shouldnt judge people before you get to know them. Mirabelle is such a sweet character, she is a little different from her classmates as she is half fairy, she gets picked on a little because of it but she handles it well. She constantly seems to get in trouble but she also seems to be able to get out of most scrapes. Also bittens are adorable and the artwork is excellent.

Floss (age 5) has been a fan of Isadora Moon books for a while so we were eager to explore the books about Isadora's cousin Mirabelle. Mirabelle Starspell is half witch, half fairy and a whole lot of mischief.

As with the Isadora series the books can be read in order but can equally be enjoyed as a stand alone. We've just read Mirabelle and the Naughty Bat Kittens. It's the latest release (July 2022) in the series. We both very much enjoyed this early chapter book and we will certainly be exploring more Mirabelle stories in future.

Mirabelle and the Naughty Bat Kittens sees Mirabelle having to work on a project with someone she normally wouldn't when they go to a magical-creature sanctuary. Lavinia is a goody-two-shoes and certainly doesn't want to be paired with trouble maker Mirabelle. There's chaos at the sanctuary when somehow the bat kittens are let out (I'm not going to spoil their actual - super cute - name for you). Both girls are a little surprised by their actions and feelings on the day.

The book was a great read and ideal for children who are ready to listen to a longer story or those who are starting to read early chapter books independently. The black, white and purple hues Harriet used very much appealed to Floss. Harriet is very skillful at depicting exactly the things the reader would like to see from the text. As I read Floss eagerly made sure I showed her the images.

Mirabelle's best friend Carlotta makes a decision in the story that makes Mirabelle think twice. It would be a lovely opportunity to explore Mirabelle's thoughts and what the reader thinks a little deeper. There's lots of opportunities in the book to pause and consider what you would do if you were in Mirabelle's shoes.

At the end of the story there's a spread to teach you how to make butterflies. Floss loved reading the instructions to make these. You can also take a quiz to find out which magical creature you'd most like to meet.

Floss now wants me to make her a bat kitten - wish me luck!

Mirabelle 5/5⭐

This is the second Mirabelle’s book that I read and I totally understand the hype around this author and this naughty and fun little girl!

Mirabelle is half witch and half fairy, which makes her and her family totally unique!

In Mirabelle and the Naughty Bat Kittens (Bittens), Mirabelle and her class go on a trip to the zoo to see some of the most amazing and original animals in the world. But, will she be able to stay out of trouble? Her teacher, Miss Spindlewick has already put her and her best friend Carlotta apart to avoid just that, or not?

Full of stunning illustration in their characteristic colour palette and an adorable message, I enjoyed this book very much.

Both Isadora Moon and Mirabelle are series for +5 years old that are totally worth it

Mirabelle has a school trip to the magical creature sanctuary, but she gets paired up with her least favourite girl in the class Lavinia. The two don’t get along as Mirabelle is always in trouble and Lavinia is scared of trouble, as the day goes in the two learn a lot about each other.

This was so much fun, so adorable and I really love Mirabelle. I really liked the journey she went on in this one, she struggled to adjust to not just have fun and mess around with Carlotta she actually had to learn and do work, seeing all creatures not just ones that she wanted. It was great seeing her change slightly throughout the story.

I loved the friendship between her and Lavinia both learning why each was the way they were and then helping each other multiple times and becomes best friends wanting to continue to be friends after the trip. It was so sweet and I really liked Lavinia she was stricter and more restrained than fun going trouble making Mirabelle but the two worked so perfectly together.

This story was so magical seeing all different creatures and those bat kittens were the cutest things ever and I loved them so much. The illustrations in this book were amazing and I loved seeing them and the colour touches being purple in this were so cute. The dab of colour on each page is always my favourite thing about the franchise it makes the illustrations really stand out.

I love reading this series and I highly recommend them, they are just such fun whimsical reads, the characters are always fun and the adventures or shenanigans they get up to are always interesting. I really enjoy them.

Bittens! Bittens rule! Ok honestly despite the bittens this was an interesting idea that shows the pressure on both sides of the naughty/nice line and also the misunderstandings that can come from it. Sometimes trusting others is hard but friendships can be found in different ways. The usual trouble ensues but this time it was less intentional and more accidental. It was amazing to see others around Mirabelle change and Mirabelle see the world in a new understanding.

Any book by Harriet Muncaster is so cute but the Mirabelle books are so adorable, with Mirabelle being a half witch, half fairy who constantly gets into trouble but always manages to save the day. In this story, she goes to the local zoo and gets paired with a goody two-shoes student (whose name escapes me and I cannot find out as I borrowed the book) and she is not happy about it.

The two girls explore the zoo and Mirabelle convinces her partner to do more and more until the very sweet Bittens (Bat Kittens) escape from their enclosure and they need to catch them all!

This is a positiely witchy read with a cool purple and black tone in illustrations that fit so well for the story, and Mirabelle feels like a very relatable character as they try to do what feels right to them but always ends up in trouble!
