Sadie Renno has never liked being Amish. Perhaps she inherited her mother, Sarah’s, desire to leave the Amish. She saw one magazine of American culture when she was young and knew that was the life for her.
Aaron Miller, one of the town's most devout Amish community members, has always had an eye for Sadie Renno. He has spent as much time imagining their wedding as she has spent imagining her life in the city, but Sadie has no desire to be with a man who represents all that she is trying to escape.
Sadie meets someone with a car who is willing to whisk her away, but when Aaron learns that Sadie may leave the community, he does everything in his power to show her that she should stay. Will Aaron be able to lure her away from the city’s lights? Or will Sadie manage to do what her mother couldn’t? Find out in this sweet Amish romance as you become immersed in the lives of these Morrissey County residents.
Sadie is the first book of the Amish of Morrissey County series. Each book is a stand-alone read, but to make the most of the series, you should consider reading them in order.
Now an Amazon bestselling author, Sylvia Price is an author of Amish and contemporary romance and women’s fiction. She especially loves writing uplifting stories about second chances!
Sylvia was inspired to write about the Amish as a result of the enduring legacy of Mennonite missionaries in her life. While living with them for three weeks, they got her a library card and encouraged her to start reading to cope with the loss of television and radio, giving Sylvia a new-found appreciation for books.
Although raised in the cosmopolitan city of Montréal, Sylvia spent her adolescent and young adult years in Nova Scotia, and the beautiful countryside landscapes and ocean views serve as the backdrop to her contemporary novels.
After meeting and falling in love with an American while living abroad, Sylvia now resides in the US. She spends her days writing, hoping to inspire the next generation to read more stories. When she’s not writing, Sylvia stays busy making sure her three young children are alive and well-fed.

Sadie is an 18 year old Amish woman who is very dissatisfied at being in her Amish community. She feels like she does not belong and is uncomfortable with how her father and grandfather make her feel so inadequate. Her grandfather is the bishop of the community and unhappy that she is not trying her best to find a husband and get married. Sadie shutters to think of her life as a married woman with only housework, chores and children to take care of in her life. She finds that men are always giving orders and putting women down and she wants none of that. Since her mother died in childbirth with her she has missed out on the womanly ways her mother would have taught her and she is angry that she never got to meet her mother and misses her terribly. Aaron is 4 years older and should have found his wife by now but God has not shown him who that person is. He has been baptized and knows what he wants and upon seeing Sadie knows that this is the woman he is to be with. But, Aaron is really shy and has trouble talking to women so with the advice of his grandfather Abe, he sets out to make Sadie a friend first. Sylvia has a great knack for showing us the true personalities of her characters and makes us fall in love with them wanting only the best. We watch as Sadie and Aaron work to bring their interests and ideas together with Aaron fighting to have Sadie stay in the community. But, the devil has a way of thrusting his unwanted ideas into peoples heads and with the return of an ex-Amish young man who has caused havoc in the community already his eyes are on Sadie and getting her away from the Amish way of life and into the English way of doing things. Aaron has to fight to make her see how bad it is in the English world but Sadie is sure that it is better. Can Aaron work with God and his family to turn Sadie around and make her stay in the fold and become his wife thus having a wonderful life and family for all eternity.

Sadie’s story is about a young Amish gal who is discontent with her life… especially the way she is treated, judged and controlled by her father and grandfather. Since her mother died and could not raise her, she feels disconnected with support and guidance. She tends to often visit her mother’s grave, hoping for the love she does not feel in her life. Even this is looked down on by her father and used as one means of trying to control her into doing what he wants her to do. She wants to leave the Amish community to get away and yet feels a desire to stay. Long story short, she meets a young man there that she befriends, and their friendship grows… He gives her what she has longed for and the story of their relationship develops as does the explanation of the strained relationships she has with her father and grandfather, who is the bishop of her community. This is an interesting story that drew me into the book and maintained my interest as I read… wondering what was going to happen next. I did receive an ARC of this book from the author with a request for my leaving an honest review. I do recommend the book and the previous sequel in this series.
Sadie is the first book in The Amish of Morrissey County series and it's a nice continuation of the prequel, Sarah. Sarah was Sadie's mom who died in childbirth and we see Sadie's reliance on her through her visits to the cemetery.
Sadie is the bishop's granddaughter and has doubts about being Amish. She refuses to be baptized since she thinks she wants to join the Englisch world. When she meets up with a local boy who turned his back on being Amish she thinks her prayers are answered, but are they? Aaron, an Amish man from a good local family has an interest in Sadie and she confesses to him her thoughts and why they can't be friends, but he doesn't give up.
The story has a good flow and a few unexpected twists and turns. There is nice closure with the epilogue and a happily ever after in the offing. I look forward to reading more books in this series.

Sadie had not experienced a mother's love since her difficult birth. Her well-meaning Bishop grandfather and strict father ruled her with an iron rod of love. Lonely without siblings she often prayed to her mother, without an answer for 18 years. Not having experienced trust or the freedom of her peers she knew she just had to escape. The only escape she knew of was to leave her Amish roots and when a man offered her a route into this ambiguous freedom, she'd found her answer! Or had she? A wise, supportive friend stood in the wings waiting for Sadie to reach out to God. He knew when she did, both his and her prayers would be answered. One man's deception opened her eyes to God. Another man's truth, led her to discover all that her grieving heart yearned for; to make peace with her roots and create a home of her own with a wise and loving friend. And her God.
I received an advance reader copy of Sadie (The Amish of Morrissey County Book One) from the author.
Since Sadie was a child and saw a picture in a magazine of a happy young woman getting ready to drive a truck with a horse trailer behind her, she longs for the freedom to choose her own life. She always wanted to own horses. She does not want to marry, have children and live the Amish lifestyle.
Aaron has been interested in Sadie for a while and longs to change her mind about leaving the Amish community. He is content living the Amish life.
I did enjoy reading Sadie and Aaron's story, their developing friendship, and Aaron's attempts to convince Sadie to stay in the Amish community and keep her faith.
Sadie never knew her mother but visits her grave when she is despondent. She often talks to her mother wishing she was alive to help Sadie make decisions. She doesn’t like being Amish and wants to sneak away to become English. Her grandfather is the bishop so it makes it that much harder for her to get away. She meets a young English man with a fancy sports car who tells her about the English world. She is fascinated and he tells her he’ll help her escape. She soon finds out he was once Amish and that only encourages her to sneak away. Will Sadie get out of the Amish gmay or does something happen to keep her from leaving? Another good book about the Amish from Sylvia Price. I’m looking forward to the next story in this series.
This is a very sweet and heartwarming story yet one that will pull at your heartstrings as Sadie tries to find her way in the world. While she lives with her grandfather who is the Bishop, she like her deceased mother before her, longs to leave the Amish and live in the English world. However, Aaron a young Amish man admires Sadie and imagines what being married to her would be like and works hard to convince Sadie to stay. What decision will Sadie ultimately make; will she find out that what she truly wants is right in front of her or will she abandon her Amish roots and establish a new life for herself in the English world? Be sure and read this real page turner to find out; I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.
Sadie dreams of leaving the Amish life behind, stiffled by the life and her grandfathers persistent she find a husband has her want doubling. Aaron should be settled by now but hasn't found the one until Sadie, but with her dreams of leaving can Aaron show her another side to stay? Well written the story grabs your attention, and the depths of want and desire mixing with tradition and family has you hooked.

Another good book on Amish life in Morrissey County. Sadie questions her life as an Amish female. Her mother’s death during childbirth with her, which she feels would not have happened if they lived in the English community, plays on her mind all her life. As she approaches the age for marriage she questions staying in her community. This book continues from the prequel and gives more insight into this life.

Sadie grows in Amish community and is raised by her father, because her mom died in the childbirth. One day, as a child, she saw a picture in Englischer magazine and from that day she wants to leave Amish community, she doesn't fill like she belong there. Would her dream to leave her community become true? Grab a book and find out.
Sadie is a young Amish woman who thinks she would be much happier in the English world. She lost her mother when she was born but could use a mother’s opinion so she went to her grave to talk to her. She has 2 interested young men in her life. One is a devout Amish man trying to help her and the other is an ex Amish man who is willing to help her escape. A wonderful, interesting story! I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
although being raised Amish, was struggling to come to terms with such a strict upbringing, opting instead to wanting to try the English world. But Aaron, who had always been in love with her, had different ideas as he found excuse after excuse to spend time with her. Would his love be enough? Would she be satisfied laying aside her dream of freedom? You will not want to put this book down until you find out for yourself!
This wonderful read kept me entertained and intrigued from the first page to the last with interesting characters and situations keeping me unable to put the book down. I really liked Aaron Miller and loved his dynamic with Sadie Renno who is not sure if she wants to leave the Amish faith. This is a wonderful first book of the Amish of Morrissey County and I look forward to the next book in this must-read series. I received an advance reader copy of Sadie and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Sylvia Price has written another excellent short story in book 1 called Sadie. Sadie is a young woman who struggled most of her young life with following all the rules and restrictions growing up in an Amish community. She is convinced that her only chance of finding happiness is to leave her community and escape to live with the English. I appreciated the way Sylvia portrayed Sadie's struggle. I recommend this book.
This was an easy read that kept my interest. Sadie like her mother, had a restless spirit and found herself looking in all the wrong places for contentment. The characters were complex yet interesting, and I found myself empathizing with Sadie.

Sadie's has grown up Amish but wants to leave. Jensen grew up Amish and has left and is willing to help Sadie's leave. Aaron stays in Amish community and tries to convince Sadie's to stay. Follow her through her decisions.

Sadie is a young amish woman. She doesn't feel herself amish. She's attracted from English world, but she doesn't know it. I think English world could be easy with washing machine, computer, cellphone, electricity.. but it is also dangerous, busy, fast. People not Plain unfortunately have forgotten to chat to other people, to enjoy small things, to stay togheter, to slow down.
Wanting so badly to leave the Amish life and move into the Englischer life, Sadie makes her plans. When she realizes she is talking to God instead of her deceased mother, things take on a whole new light.
This was a beautiful love story about the Amish. I feel in love with the characters immediately. This is one series that I hope continues for a few more books. Wonderful love story. I was given an advanced copy through Book Sprout with the promise of a honest review.
This was an excellent Amish book about Sadie making right choices for herself. Her dad and grandfather were often harsh and severe. I really loved this book!!!
Sylvia Price has weaved a wonderful story of the desires and beliefs of Sarah. Amish, or not, many will relate to her feelings of wanting to be in control of her own life. She does not want to be controlled by a man. These are issues that are very widespread. This story is hard to put down. Once the book is finished, it will live on in your thoughts!
Sadie was very unhappy being Amish. She planned to leave as soon as she was old enough. A young man, Aaron, in the community liked her. She told him how she felt about being Amish and her plans to leave. Would he be able to talk her out of leaving? Would she take an interest in him?
I received a free ARC, and this is my honest opinion.
This part of this series was a little more believable for me than the prequel. Sadie’s mother died when she was born. She wants nothing more than to leave the Amish life. There are a couple twists and turns that makes this interesting. I found no grammar or errors when reading that bumped my review to 4 instead of 3. I received a free ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
