Solving mysteries is hard enough, but when the murder victim is a misogynistic bully, it would be easy to turn a blind eye. But, when friends are in the firing line, Avery will do what she can to solve the puzzle, even if it means helping someone who doesn't deserve it.
Doing an early morning shop, Avery finds a corpse in the supermarket coolroom. Not exactly the way she wanted to start the day, but, as she laments, finding dead bodies seems to be her forte. The victim is a popular local rugby player, but the more Avery looks into the case, the more she realises he's not a likeable as his friends think.
His ghost hounds her to find his killer, but the more he harasses her, the less she wants to help—the guy is not a nice person. The only thing that keeps her in the game is pressure on Sergeant Bellamy from the mayor, who just happens to be the dead man's uncle. When the mayor threatens to destroy Bellamy's career, Avery has to pull out all the stops.
Can she find the murderer without getting herself and Bellamy into even more trouble? Life's not easy when you're hiding a secret as huge as seeing ghosts. She'll have to be inventive with this one because it's not only her own reputation on the line.
I love reading and writing. I'm a mother to two teens and two Siamese cats. I've got an associate degree of creative writing and am a full-time author. I write paranormal cosy mysteries with heroines who are quirky, kind, and love to right wrongs and get justice. I also love to make people laugh and give them an awesome escape, which is why I tell stories.
I have read all of theAvery Winters books and enjoyed all of them. They are an easy flowing read. I normally can’t stand fictional journalists and Avery and crew are definitely an exception to that. This time Avery gets to deal with a particularly obnoxious ghost. Not surprisingly she is reluctant to help. But because Avery has a good heart and others she thinks well of may be badly effected if she doesn’t, she agrees to help find the killer. A few snigger moments through the book as usual. And a few tense moments. You’d find out a bit more about Finn in this book continuing the rounding out of his character that started in the last book. Another fun book in the series. I’m just sorry I have to wait for the next one as I want to read it now.
Stuck by lightning, Avery Winters has a new talent- She is able to converse with Ghosts. The tips she gets from them give her assistance to solve murders. In this fourth book of the series, a lot of characters still have to be sorted between the innocent, the possible. and the guilty. As a writer for the local paper, she makes judgements that lead her through the story until the guilty is caught. Light reading well suited to an election year.
I absolutely love the Haunting Avery Winters cozy mystery series by Dionne Lister! A Frozen Stiff is just as entertaining, hilarious and just wonderful as the previous 3 books in this series. Avery's uncanny talent for stumbling onto murder victims is not getting her into the usual trouble, yet... As she tries to settle into her new life and making friends/ allies more ghostly secrets get uncovered and this time the story becomes a but darker. It works, I absolutely love how the series develops , bring on book 5!
I love these books! They’re just cute little cosy murder mysteries. The little ghost trio that helps Avery really make the books, especially Charles ❤️
