STELLA
It should’ve been a perfect night. The mating fever gave her a mate. He was beautiful. He touched her. It was supposed to be perfect. It was perfect.
Her mate kissed her. He gave her a taste of what she always wanted. What she always dreamed of having. Then he shoved her away. Then the dream turned into a nightmare.
JASPER
When the mating fever called his wolf, he had to respond. He knew he’d find his perfect mate at Fever Night. Instead, all he found was a woman he couldn't love. A woman fate should’ve known better than to match him with.
He rejected her. He should’ve hated her. But fate and his inner wolf had other plans, and they didn't include letting her go.
Rejection is a rejected mate wolf shifter romance filled with page-turning action, steamy love scenes, and a satisfying enemies-to-lovers romance.
*Please This is the first book in the Moon Fever trilogy. Stella and Jasper's romance is resolved in the third book, Redemption--available now.
Rejection is the first installment in the Moon Fever trilogy by Olivia Concord. This paranormal rejected mate romance is brimming with an exciting storyline, action, and sizzling chemistry. This book will make you feel so many emotions; from heartbreak to anger to sadness.
Stella Nightrock is a 21-year-old outcast shifter in the Redfern pack. Men in the Redfern pack treat women poorly and Stella is no stranger to their degrading insults. She has lived an isolated existence with an abusive father, Johnny, and two older brothers; Junior and Kyle. Having a happy and safe future hinges on the fates blessing her with a caring mate that will whisk her away and protect her.
Jasper is the second born son of the Redfern Alpha. He is a college student that returns home to his pack during the moon fever to match with his potential mate and check on his mother that is trapped in her wolf form. His mother lost touch with her humanity after being assaulted by Stella’s father and survives in the wilderness. Jasper despises the Nightrock family for what they did to his mother and feels betrayed by the fates when the moon fever reveals Stella is his mate. He rejects the bond and Stella must flee the pack to protect herself. How could he accept the daughter of the man who destroyed his mother as his mate?
Several months later, the Redfern pack is attacked and Jasper must step-in as alpha. The pack believes his rejection of Stella has cursed them all and he sets out to bring her back home.
This book was well-written and held my interest. I was able to read this book in one night. Stella is a likable and relatable character; intelligent, beautiful but insecure, curvy in all the right places, and kind despite her upbringing. Jasper was less likable and I think the amount of groveling was just not enough. The inner monologue and interaction with Stella after the rejection was not enough to redeem him from his action. Hopefully we see more groveling to earn Stella’s forgiveness.
Tropes: Rejected mates, shifters, paranormal romance Heat: 2/5 TW: Abuse, mention of SA
I like that the FMC is able to escape her pack and make a life for herself after being rejected by her mate and running away. But, outside of that, everything that happens feels really convenient and somewhat juvenile. Every scenario is a set up rather than a progression of the story. It’s an enjoyable read but it’s not a great one for this reason.
So I am not a stranger to any type of book that has a rejected mate trope because I’ve got to say it is one of my favorites because of the character development and the love that grows in between the enemies to lovers trope that is always involved in this.
First off I just wanna say oh my gosh, could you tear my heart out and stomp it on the floor and then put lemon and salt on it because gosh did I cry at certain parts of this book so hard because I felt what the MFC was going through and I was like wow this hurts,😭😭😭😭but it’s familiar which made me love her even more .
As far as the MMC I love everything about him even the way he acts towards her because it like I said it is very much an enemies to lovers trope which is one of my favorites and the way it’s always revealed the true feelings that he holds back from her even though he’s fighting it with every fiber in his being and really has good intentions behind the reasons why he’s doing what he’s doing.
All in all, I love me a good shifter book and if you haven’t read this book. I recommend it if you are someone like me who loves shifter books and faded mates and enemies to lovers and a strong female character but also a equally strong male character than this book is for you check it out!!
well done and I cannot wait to get to the second one.😍
SYNOPSIS (of Book 1): The FC is the daughter of an enforcer to the alpha and treated like dirt - not abused just treated very badly. Women in the pack are generally considered second class citizens. On Mate night when pack members are supposed to find their fated mates the FC matches with the son of the Alpha who believes that her father raped his mother. As a result the MC rejects the FC which forces her to run away. This results in the Alpha sending people to kill her and the MC having to try and protect her. The rest of Book 1 covers how the MC becomes alpha of the pack and has to get the FC back on side.
Heat Level: minimal scenes or heat in Book 1. This is a slow burn.
I gave up after Book 1. It’s hard to put my finger on the problem but I couldn’t engage with either the FC or MC. The FC came across as weak and pathetic and the MC was just selfish and childish. No “alpha” and no possessive, strength vibes. The story itself seemed a bit all over the place with the big dramatic scene coming out of the blue and being a bit of a non-sequitur or just a lame plot point to excuse the FC/MC reuniting (forced proximity). The secondary characters also came and went purely to fill whatever storyline the author was using to move the story forward. The writing itself also didn’t engage it came across as a bit clunky which just didn’t work for me. Overall this was not for me, I could not get into the story or the characters.
Jasper Cross returned from college to answer the call of the moon and find his mate. Fate chose Stella Nightrock for him. She had been treated badly by her father and was hoping she would find a loving and protective mate. Unfortunately, Jasper hated her father so he rejected her. He wanted to hate her too, but somehow he didn’t.
Humiliated by his treatment, she left and never intended to come back. But when the alpha orders her killed, would she be captured? Or could she avoid her pursuers? Or did Fate have other plans for her?
Stella is a wolf shifter with a horrible family. Her only wish is to meet her fated mate and get out of her father's house. Jasper comes home from college because of the Moon fever. He has other dreams besides meeting his fated mate but when the fever hits, you must answer. This story kept me interested to see how these two over come all the odds. A pack in need of a different direction. Will these two be the future the pack needs? Can't wait to read book 2.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What an amazing first instalment to this series! I loved that the Stellais a strong willed, self respecting character. I especially like that although she thinks of the well-being of others, she also more importantly thinks of her needs and is making her currently ex mate work for forgiveness. In saying that, Jasper is such a good character! He’s not intentionally cruel he just loves his mother and has so much compassion for his pack. I can’t wait for the next book
I felt the characters needed more depth and development but will read this author again. Jasper Cross returned from college to answer the call of the moon and find his mate. Fate chose Stella Nightrock for him. She had been treated badly by her father. Unfortunately, Jasper hated her father so he rejected her.

And I meant that! It’s a great start to a trilogy. I haven’t read anything by this author before but I’m definitely going to be continuing. I’m loving Stella and jasper’s story and it’s been a thrilling ride!!! So many things happening and such intrigue and mystery! And the secrets. There’s heart break but I see it evolving and becoming something good.
I think I've got moon fever. This book sucked me in so fast that I didn't even notice it was written in third person. I usually don't read third person pov. This author connected me to the characters though so I didn't miss the 1st person perspective
Each chapter was like a couple pages… cliffhanger ending, ahhh and I’m not getting the plot? I feel like it’s being rushed? There’s definitely the angst or tension between FMC and MMC but it’s not what I was expecting or hoping for.
It wouldn’t win any awards, but it was still a good, quick read.
I have a few tropes that have become my favorite, and rejected mates is one of them. While some books make the rejection into this huge melodramatic moment, it was pretty understated here. In fact, it was almost non-existent. But reject her he did. And now he realizes his mistake and wants her back.
It is this lack of real emotional connection that prompted my 3 star rating. In some of these books, I’m left gutted, but not here. In fact, I didn’t really even feel sad until later. Getting into our FMC’s head is where my heart kinda hurt. Stella’s longing for love, stability and belonging was definitely front and center in her mind. As for our MMC, Jasper. . . For some reason he felt really flat to me. In most of these romance books, I find myself lusting after the MMC almost more than the heroine! But not here. Even with the insight into his thoughts and feelings, I just didn’t feel a connection with him. Which was very disappointing.
World building was good, but not great. Same with character development. Not sure if it’s because it’s a trilogy and perhaps more will be revealed in the books to come. Steam level was pretty low. But what was there were dream sequences - other than their kiss on the night of moon fever when the “goddess” gifted them to each other as mates . . . And before he rejected her. Not gonna lie, that was some kiss. It’s the type of kiss that makes me want to hand the book over to my husband to read the highlighted portions so we can try it sometime. 🫣🫣🫣 I mean, I’m pretty sure my ovaries popped out an egg reading that.
Unfortunately, one excellent kiss does not a book make. But it was a very fast read, and I did find it engaging enough to continue with the next book. I would still recommend the book. While I didn’t love it, I did really like it.
