Wicked Little Secret

Rate this book
It was supposed to be an anonymous, one-night stand.

Dr. Olivia Lacroix wasn't proud that she went to the bar when she was ovulating, intending to get pregnant. No last names or phone numbers had to be exchanged—the guy never needed to know. No harm, no foul. Right?
Wrong.
When her one-night stand shows up at the hospital right after she's given birth demanding answers, he’s no longer the nice guy she met in the bar. Not satisfied with her explanation, he insists she marry him or else he's going to sue her for full custody. Olivia has money, but not the kind of money her infant son's father apparently has. She had no idea she'd hooked up with a multi-millionaire.
What else can she do but marry him? Their prenup guarantees her joint custody if he divorces her. That should be easy enough to make happen. If she can keep from falling in love with the grouch first.

Fun fact about me: I despise negative motivation as a driving plot point more than anything else in fiction. If the sole element driving the plot forward is the inaction or avoidance of action by the main characters, I die a little inside.
This book was basically all NM; it’s about an idiot woman who makes monstrous choices and a nice guy who ends up with her.
However, despite its premise being completely terrible and when I wasn’t tripping over typos, this book was pretty readable. So I feel inherently more disappointed now than I would have been had it just been terrible on every level. This story was an improvement on the author’s last book. This book moved along at a good pace, didn’t bog the reader down with an enormous amount of side characters, and the side characters it did have were likeable and integral to the plot and not there for the sole purpose of bread-crumbing past books. It did have some grosser sex scenes but they did not overwhelm the book as per her other works.
That being said, I just could not get over the premise of this book and I could not like or root for the female lead character. She was a terrible person, full stop. Basically this horrible, selfish, manipulative liar of a FMC, Olivia, purposefully gets herself pregnant on a one night stand so she can have a baby of her own. This monster disguised as a woman, an OB/GYN with no apparent ethics, picks up this dude, the MMC, at a bar, lies about being on bc and raw dogs him in a hotel, sneaking out before he wakes up in the morning.
Through a series of entirely convenient events, the hero finds out she had his baby just after she gives birth. The plot then proceeds into a marriage of convenience where they fall in love. Sounds good? I mean if he can forgive her for her selfish, terrible actions, then who am I to deny their happiness? I’ve read a lot of redemption stories of some pretty terrible main characters and enjoyed, even loved, them. So, does she redeem herself? Well no, you see her lying doesn’t stop there. She then lies about being in love with someone else, preventing the hero from expressing his growing feelings for her. But you see, she loves him too but can’t tell him that because maybe he only loves her because of their child. I mean, couldn’t she just ask him that or have a conversation with him about it? No, she has to lie, manipulate, demand a divorce and leave him until someone else tells her he might love her too.
What the fuck kind of character is this? Why did this guy even like her? Her boobs maybe? Her sloppy bjs? That’s all I can see, to be honest.
I won’t spoil the ending, but suffice it to say, it was dumb. She needed to grovel and beg this poor sap to forgive her, but she didn’t. The monster got her HEA with minimal effort, even though she deserved none of it.
By the end of this book, I hated this heroine and wanted her dead.
So ultimately this could have been a three or four star read had the author attempted to redeem her FMC or showed any growth whatsoever, but she didn’t. External factors ended up bringing them together, not any realization or development on the part of the sociopathic heroine. I waited for it. I should have dnf’d this but I read on, waiting for this woman to show she was worthy of this man. But it never happened. So here I am, frustrated and disappointed after having to push through a book that badly needed proofreading and used the word teabag as a verb during a sex scene. Yes, that happened and yes, it was gross. No one should ever use ‘teabag’ to describe a sex act in a romance novel, EVER. So now I leave this book and author in my wake, I truly saw some potential in some of her other books but the last three have been a miserable time for me, so I’m done. ✌🏻

I am so sick of dumb heroines who cannot see a good good when they are right there. This girl could go to prison for what she did at the very least he could take her to court and get full custody but no he is an amazing man who offers her his constant attention, love, and tons of money and all she is does is complain. She needs someone to knock some sense in her. He served someone completely else who is worthy of him. I kept helping he would dump her and get with someone worthy of him

The excuses are lame and flimsy. It’s frustrating seeing people deny themselves for the sake of a plot.

Also, the breastfeeding as birth control..total lie! A friggin myth! Don’t believe it! I know so many who thought that and bam! Baby number two within a year of the first. This girl doesn’t even know what she’s talking about 🤦🏽‍♀️

And you know, just simple misconceptions. Why though? Why not just be a bit more well rounded and consider talking things through. Why can’t you just 𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌!

Also, wtf man? This guy literally did nothing wrong, and she’s all over him, angry at everything. Nekk minute, Oh no, I love him so my natural reaction is to be mean. Ughhhh.

Also I hate passive aggressive crap. That’s for wussies. Say what you mean.

Look, flip floppy characters are one of my pet peeves, and she had it in spades.

At least it was a slow burn, and I admit I love those. I read till the end because I’m a sucker for them, but please! Have some respect for each other and just 𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

I suppose you could argue that I enjoyed it if I walked away so worked up? And the fact that I finished it, despite my hangups, says something. I’m still figuring out what.

2-1/2 stars.

I was disappointed in this story. The heroine angered me with her lies. I got tired of the hero and heroine not communicating well. The heroine needed to grovel. The hero deserved better.

I don’t like the FMC at all. She does a hideous thing and by luck ends up with a man who is way too nice for her. Unrealistically so. Like no man on earth would make the choices he does, especially for an annoying, crazy woman like this h. I made it to 46% but I can’t take her or how ridiculously unbelievable their situation is so it’s a DNF for me.

Characters don’t work.

The main character Olivia is in her late thirties with the character of a 16 year old. The book tries to paint her as a lovable, capable adult women, but she panics and then acts like a selfish child, and no one checks her.

Maverick isn’t as bad but his decision making process is rash and while I love confident, decisive men he doesn’t think like an established man, with years of experience in life.

So I just couldn’t even finish. I stopped after Olivia gave birth and starts complaining about how Maverick wanting a say in their child’s life isn’t fair, when she blatantly lied to him.

If her character was meant to be young it probably wouldn’t have been so bad, and if he was a little you would probably not mind either. But she’s an obgyn and close to 40 with the personaity of a 16 year old on murray or dr phil and he’s a retired navy vet, with a established businesses and two kids who makes decisions based on whims.

This is part of the Boston’s Elite series, but can be read as a standalone. You'll love Olivia and Pete/Mav's story. She's an OBGYN who wants a baby and at thirty seven she feels her time is running out. After considering her options she decides to find a baby daddy for a one night stand. She meets Mav and it's instant chemistry and their night together produces her desired result. He doesn't know anything about her so he's unable to keep in touch and has no clue she's pregnant. No spoiler here but it's cute how he finds out about the baby. The book is hard to put down once you start reading. This is really a great book that I read in one sitting. The characters are great and the story line is so engaging. You'll love the HEA. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I'm sorry but wth!

I wasn't really a fan of this book. First, she lied to him so she could become pregnant, and then second, she basically was what was wrong with their entire relationship. She didn't take them being together seriously, and only after being told by 2 different people that he actually loved her did she believe his actions. She constantly brought up divorce or moving out, and she honestly made him believe she had a different boyfriend with whom she was in love with. I'm sorry, but if I was him, after her lying to him so much and then getting into bed and sleeping with him even though she has "someone" she's "in love with" I'd dump her and make sure I got custody of the kid, she's obviously a bit unstable. This story wasn't romantic to me. It was an unrealistic tale of what you shouldn't do unless you're the woman who is .0000001% luckly enough to find a guy stupid enough to stay with you after putting him through all that.

Very undesirable female lead

Interesting take where a woman knowingly goes into ONS hoping to get pregnant and the man is none the wiser.
Olivia is a doctor. An OB/GYN, for goodness sake. She traps him and decides not to find and tell him. Well, until her best friend and business partner convinces her its the right thing. Then, her attempt is half hearted.
Months later, she gives birth. He finds out. (That was a cute twist).
Maverick is a stand up guy. Loves his infant son at first sight. Wildly wealthy. Convinces Olivia to move into his mansion with the baby. Convinced her to marry him.
Even though they have tremendous chemistry and he SHOWS her over and over that he loves her, she’s horrible. He didn’t say I Love You. Show, not tell, is way more powerful. And he mostly doesn’t say it because she lies and says she has a boyfriend that she is in love with. She doesn’t.
Olivia is a terrible character. Her twin brother is a terrible character.
Maverick’s brothers and sons are as honorable as he is.
I really don’t like books with stupid mean girl leading ladies. I don’t like my heroine to be so independent as to be obnoxious. I don’t like Olivia. Like, at all.

Although I really enjoyed this sweet and sassy page turner, super selfish Olivia, got on my last nerve! Pete, (nickname Maverick because he flew jets in the Navy), is such a sweetheart and he deserves a woman who will love him, respect him, and practice some honesty while in the relationship.

Olivia was only thinking about herself and what she wanted, when she hooked up with Maverick. 3/4 of the story, Olivia was still being dishonest with him. I loved the way Miss Tess wrote the hospital scene when Nick explained what happened the night of the snow storm and how he was an honorary uncle, never realizing exactly how he was really connected to the baby!

I consider this a “short” read. The reason for this is because it was a fast paced read. Not a lot of jumping around like some books do. Mav is a Sliver Fox that I have always wanted!! Olivia is a sweetheart even in the start. I loved the way it plays out.

This was a secret baby grumpy hero romance.

I really enjoyed this story but had a personal issue with her lying and hesitation telling him about getting pregnant. It made for a great conflict/pivot point in the book and if you like secret baby stories would definitely recommend this book.

Dr. Olivia Lacroix desperately wants a baby. Working as an OB/GYN it is bittersweet to help other women with their babies. She has two options, going to a fertility lab to be artificially impregnated which is very expensive or doing it the old fashioned way. One night after work she goes to Flannigan's bar while she is ovulating and meets Pete who she hooks up with in the hotel across the street after telling him she was on birth control.

Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is a former Navy pilot, a divorced silver fox grump, a silent partner in his brother's bar, a billionaire and the father of two grown sons. He and Olivia have crazy chemistry and act on it the night they meet. He is very disappointed to awake the next morning to find her gone. In fact he continues to go to the bar on the same night each week hoping to run into her again.

Four and a half months after their one night stand she goes back to the bar to try to find Pete to tell him she is pregnant but she gets stonewalled by his brother and the bartender. Meanwhile unbeknownst to get she hires Pete's son Nick to do her landscaping and snow plowing. During a terrible snow storm she goes into labor and has to ask Nick for help getting to the hospital. He helps her through the delivery and calls his father to tell him what just happened. Pete rushed to the hospital after seeing a picture of Olivia and the baby now knowing it is his child. After a lot of discussion, he convinces her to return to his home with the baby when she is released. He gets her to agree to marry him to avoid a nasty custody case. They have a lack of communication issue which causes them to break up, eventually reconcile and later get their HEA.

What a good read, not too heavy but kept you interested.

Olivia is a doctor in her 30s, she knows her body clock is ticking and desperately wants a baby. She has explored her options and on a whim decides a one night stand with a random guy, could be the answer. She is very self sufficient, has savings and good family and friends. She is looking at having a baby and go it alone. ( you do have to ignore how selfish she is and how unreal the situation really is. It’s only a book )

She finishes work one night and goes for food and a drink. It just so happens the bar she goes into is packed with sports fans watching a game and the only chair free is at the bar, next the Maverick.

Maverick aka Pete has noticed Olivia as soon as she walked in the bar and is encouraged to chat with her. As the only seat free is the one next to him, she ends up sitting there.

Pete and Olivia instantly click and after a drink they realise they’re both on the same page regarding a night of passion.

Olivia likes Pete, the silver fox and decides to tell a little white lie regarding being on the pill, she has her own agenda that Pete doesn’t need to know about. ( be calm here )

Pete has been divorced for some time and has two grown up boys. He hasn’t been able to meet anyone on line, so when Olivia seems to be ‘into him’, they go off to the Hotel over the road.

They both enjoy the night, but Olivia leaves like a thief in the night, not exchanging numbers or even full names. A month later Olivia finds out she’s pregnant and the story goes from there.

I felt for Pete, what a lovely guy. Who wouldn’t want a man like him ?

I thought the story dragged on a little towards the end and Olivia was getting on my nerves and i thought she deserved a lot less than she got.

But then the ending took a turning and was really quick, but I still enjoyed it. ( definitely need to remember it’s not real, as i think Olivia’s action will annoy some people ).

Easy, low-angst read that was nicely written.
The heroine, Olivia (38) is a successful OBGYN. She feels her biological clock ticking but doesn't want to waste time on another unsuccessful relationship, so she decides to have a fling with a handsome silver fox she meets at a bar, hoping to get pregnant. Despite feeling a genuine attraction to Pete she lies about her identity and says she's on the pill (which I didn't like at the time, but I understand it was needed for the plot to work).

The hero is older (late 40s/early 50s maybe) with two grown sons from his first marriage. He's instantly smitten by Olivia and when he discovers she left in the night he realises he has no way of contacting her. Feeling guilty about keeping her subsequent pregnancy a secret from the father, Olivia tries a few months later to find Pete at the bar where they met (which he mentioned to her he owned), but the staff confuses her with someone else and refuses to help her.

For romance reasons, Olivia and Pete reconnect when Pete's firstborn son acts as a good Samaritan by driving Olivia to the hospital when she's in labour. The MCs reconnect in the L&D ward, agree to live together and soon enter a marriage of convenience to share custody of baby Sawyer.

They are both so completely gone for each other, but as always with this trope, no one ever admits their feelings, leading to miscommunication and drama. The ending was completely cheesy and predictable, but I loved it (sue me).

This book contains multiple descriptive love scenes.

5 stars ++++Best Characters and Love Story ! This is my favorite story of 2022, and I’ve read a lot of books. I LOVED the real caring loving characters that appeared throughout this story. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is the best, most caring, interesting, loving, and most successful alpha character ever. He-has-it-all! BUT…He’s about to get even more!
Dr. Olivia Lacroix is a single 37-year-old whose childbearing years are ticking by. She’s an OB/GYN with the baby bug but no man in her life. OPTIONS are: Costly Sperm bank or one-night-stand? At the neighborhood bar, Flannigan’s Olivia just met her dream one-night-stand, choice made. Pete can’t believe the beauty who just sat down next to him. The night is magical for both of them but in the morning Olivia runs. Nine months later the birth scene is hilarious and fate brings Pete and Olivia together again. Now they share precious Sawyer and Pete is as excited as Olivia. There are misunderstandings and poor communication, but the telling is funny, sad, and finally joyful. Pete is the best father ever! His two sons and brothers are there for him every step of the way. Olivia has her twin brother and her partner in their medical practice to rally for her and little Sawyer is surrounded by nothing but love. I HIGHLY recommend this wonderful story filled with unforgettable characters. I received a free advanced copy of this story from Booksprout and am excited to share my opinion. Linda

✔ I absolutely loved Pete's character. He was caring, sweet, swoony and super hunky 😍.
✔ I saw myself in Olivia but only till the clock was running out and age. She is strong and quite sassy.
✔ OMG I was swooning over the support they got from their families as well.
✔ This one was rightly paced, cute characters, sweet, swoony , heartbreaking and super duperliciosly spicy.

🤔What could have been better -

✔ I found Olivia quite a bratty child in a few instances.

Really fun, wickedly good read by an always entertaining author. The whole premise is a little outlandish but when you read for fun that's what you come to expect! Olivia is 38 and knows her time is running out to have a baby of her own. What does she do? Finds a silver fox with grown kids, a retired career Navy pilot (who is literally named PETE MITCHELL nicknamed Maverick) and has a one night stand while she's ovulating. Nine months later his 19 year old son drives her to the hospital and helps her deliver said baby boy...then takes a selfie which he sends his dad. Pete puts the pieces together and confronts her and long story short...he (in a weirdly nice way) strong arms her into moving in with him. They get married and begin this really long struggle to get through not only the exhaustion of new parenting but resist the pull toward one another. Olivia thinks Pete is only married to her for the baby and Pete thinks she has someone else. The miscommunication is very, very strong with these two. The build up in this story is pretty epic and while it can get frustrating at time it makes their inevitable HEA that much better. Such a fun read!.

Dr Olivia LaCroix is an OB/GYN doc and shares a practice with her good friend. She has a good life but is missing one thing, she wants a baby. She's 37 and her child bearing days are wearing down, she has no boyfriend so she must come up with options and the one she chooses is a one night stand.
Pete Mitchell known as Maverick due to his time in the Navy flying jets is divorced and a father of 2 grown boys. He's done well for himself, investing in his siblings businesses and has an extensive real estate and stock portfolio. But being in the Navy he missed out on his boys growing up.
He meets Olivia at the bar and they hook up. She didn't leave him much info about herself so 9 months later when his son had driven a woman, a client to the hospital as she was in labor and couldn't get her car out due to the snow. He sends his dad a picture and says how he looks so much like him as a kid. And the fun begins.
Pete is not happy to be deceived and they have to come to a compromise. Can they live together without feelings getting involved?

Loved this book. Pete was so caring and sweet.

Dr. Olivia Lacroix wants a child and her biological clock is ticking. When she makes a rash decision to have a one night stand with a guy to try and get pregnant. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is slient partner in Flannigan's and is instantly attracted to Olivia. When a drink and conversation ends with the sleeping together. Olivia get her wish. When her conscience gets to her she tries to notify him. When she goes back to Flannigan's she gets the run around. But fate has a way of stepping in, when Olivia goes into labor during a blizzard she is driven by Nick. Unbeknownst to Olivia, Nick is Pete's son. When Nick tells Pete about the incident with Olivia, her rushes to the hospital. Olivia and Pete have an honest discussion about the last nine months and agree live together and co-parent. Nick and Olivia's chemistry is of the charts and they both try and fail to fight their feelings for each other. Which causes a lot of miscommunication and misperception that led to hurt feelings. Overall, this was my second favorite book in this series and I cannot wait for the next installment.

In the book “Wicked Little Secret” we meet Olivia who is in her late thirties and desperately wants a baby. She realizes she has two options either go to sperm bank or have a one night stand. After work one night she’s at a bar and is instantly attracted to this man and he seemed to be attracted to her as well. Pete and Olivia have a wonderful night together and of course she gets pregnant. After a few months she feels bad on skipping out on Pete and goes back to the bar where she met him but no claims to know who Pete is. As fate would have it, Pete’s son drives Olivia to the hospital when she goes into labor and Pete discovers he’s a dad again. Pete missed out most of his sons early years because he was working and he is determined not to miss out on this time. He demands that Olivia move into his house and marry him or he will sue for custody. This story is so stinking cute. A woman lying to a man is wrong but it’s a romance book so we can overlook that detail. Pete and his family were just so warm and welcoming to Olivia and her son. I love a good romance book and this was one. Great story, great characters it was very enjoyable.

good read

I enjoyed the premise, Olivia and Maverick meet, hit it off and head for a hotel. She’s only looking for a one night stand and a freebie baby daddy, he thought he’d found someone to keep around. He didn’t get the chance when she snuck out on him. 9 months later Maverick finds out his oldest son Nick has taken one of his clients to the hospital when she was in labour and held her hand while she gave birth to his baby brother. This is how Maverick finds out he has another son. Loved the twist on the secret baby/marriage of convenience trope. Maverick was determined to be a present father, regretting missing so many of his two grown sons firsts. But Olivia spent 9 months preparing to be a single parent and fought him every step of the way. He just wanted to take care of his family and she did nothing but fight, lie and deny him, to the point that he agreed to let her go because she’d convinced him she was miserable, I was getting truly annoyed with her because she was the one making everyone miserable! Sure she finally saw the light and they got their HEA, but she really was being ridiculous!

OMG! WTF this book was definitely awesome, the story was exhilarating and the characters were sensational. Olivia is a Doctor she has a house, a business with her best friend all that is left that she desperately wants is a baby. She had wasted so many years being with someone that doesn't want children. Maverick is a retired fighter pilot from the airforce he is very wealthy he has a big port folio, he is divorced with two grown men decided he would call into the pub that he is a silent partner in with his brother, when he noticed a lady walked in on her own invited her to sit next to him. The instant attraction was hot, they started talking had a couple of drinks by then they were ready to go across the road to the hotel. In the morning when he woke up he was alone and devastated he didn't have her phone number or last name, the next time he sees her is in a photo with his son.

Sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees! This is a case of when actions didn’t speak louder than words. There are times in life when words are so important. You can’t assume someone else’s intentions, thoughts, and feelings. They need to be clearly spelled out even when everyone else can see them.

I don’t do spoilers. It’s not fair to the author or reader. Read the blurb and you get the gist of the story.
Olivia is looking for the fairy tale. However, her ways of going about it leaves something to be desired and is off the normal beaten path.
Maverick believes actions speaks louder than words. Obviously not always the case, especially when it involves the heart.
Their “meet cute” sets the stage for the rest of the story. Their styles are different but similar in some ways. Yes, there are lies, deception, heat and caring that all adds to the depth of the story.

I read this story in one day! I really enjoyed this book. I look forward to the next one!

Although book 6 of the Boston's Elite series, this book reads like a standalone, so jump right in. Or since all 6 books are currently available of Kindle Unlimited, you can read them all for free with your subscription. This is Maverick and Olivia's story. Olivia wants a baby, but not necessarily the baby daddy. When a one night stand with the handsome and charismatic Maverick gets the job done, she tries to find him, but since they didn't exchange real names, it's not possible. But when Maverick's college age son is serving a lawn and the homeowner goes into labor and he sends a picture of the mama and baby afterwards, Maverick recognizes the women who has haunted him for 9 months. I loved these two characters, although immature at times, they are well written, compelling. The book is well paced, sizzling, steamy, has a little drama. Solid 4 star read from me.

The secret baby trope gets creative with WICKED LITTLE SECRET. I wasn’t sure I would be okay with Olivia’s plan for getting pregnant, but the story ended up working for me in a lot of ways.

First there was silver fox Maverick probably one of the most swoon worthy secret baby daddies. With two grown sons of his own you would never expect him to take to his new baby the way he did, and the way he finds out is story telling gold.

Olivia deserved to feel unsure of Maverick’s feelings and the angst it put her through. It was always a matter of when she would read the signs.

The extended family of both was part of the story, but not in the overwhelming way it can be with so many people. It’s a good story all around and I enjoyed reading it.
