Ram Sharan Sharma, commonly referred to as R. S. Sharma, was a historian and academic of Ancient and early Medieval India, who advocated the Marxist method. He taught at Patna University and Delhi University and was visiting faculty at University of Toronto.
Sharma has a typical way of writing history. He systematically traces archaeological sources of the past and keeps them at check while reading the textual sources. He then makes a comprehensive analysis of what might or might not have happened in the past! This is what he does when he looks for the Aryans in the ancient Indian past. He carefully evaluates and analyses their presence and absence in certain cultural and geographical contexts in the subcontinent and beyond. The Cameo is a brief essay that looks for Aryans in the world through their material and textual presence.
