Emily grew up in the north of England on a diet of historical romance and strong tea.

Unfortunately, you couldn’t study Regency slang, so she did the next best thing and gained a degree in Classics and History instead. This ‘led’ to an eight-year stint in engineering.

Having left city life, she now lives in a dilapidated farmhouse where her days are spent writing, fixing the leaky roof, battling the endless vegetation and finding pictures of well-tied cravats.

Another beautifully written historical romance by Emily Windsor. My romantic heart almost beat out of my chest reading this book. The premise is a complex idea but one that stirs every romance reader. Can love overcome all? Can a person lose their memory yet instinctively know the person they love?

Let’s begin with the narration. It’s descriptive, historical, and emotionally charged. Emily Windsor has done extensive research on the time period and region. Her dedication for accuracy shows while reading this story. Everything from the language to the clothing to the food to the mannerisms is poignantly described.

The main characters in this romance might be from the author’s imagination, but they were so realistic, they became close friends to me. I connected with both characters on so many levels. I cheered when they got their HEA. Emotional narration propelled these characters into my heart.

The plot moved at a great pace. While it is fairly short for this author, it was the perfect size for this story. A complete story in every sense of the word.

If you are a historical romance reader, you need to read this book. It ticked every box for me and I strongly recommend it!

A Gentleman Will Never Forget a Lady is the engrossing third book in The Governess Chronicles historical romance series by Emily Windsor. The story follows Tristan, Rhys’s twin brother, who was presumed dead when lost at sea. Sixteen months have passed since his disappearance, and with some of his memories returned, Tristan is now returning home to reunite with his family. If you read A Governess Should Never Deny a Duke, you’ll remember Rhys and his niece Mari were deeply grieving Tristan’s death and trying to figure out how to move on without him. Imagine their shock and elation when he finally returns!

Gwen, a neighbor to Rhys and Tristan, has decided to have a life of adventure after losing the love of her life. She was devastated when Tristan, her long-time friend turned love was lost at sea, and when she learns of his return, she is as stunned and thrilled as everyone else. But when Tristan reveals he still doesn’t remember a large chunk of time, the time he spent with Gwen, Gwen decides to keep their relationship a secret until (or if) his memories return, even though it pains her to do so. I felt so bad for Gwen. I can’t imagine how she felt when she realized that Tristan didn’t remember their time together.

Tristan is such a layered and compelling character, and he deals with so much over the course of the story. He’s readjusting to his old life, which is difficult for him. He has to reconcile the man he was before the accident to the man he is now, and he still can’t remember a big chunk of time leading up to the accident. He feels like a shell of himself, and he struggles to find his footing when back with his family and friends. He’s also confused by his feelings for his friend Gwen.

The romance between Tristan and Gwen is heartbreaking and heart-warming all at once. The couple has a soul-deep connection, and even when Tristan doesn’t remember their time together, he still feels this undeniable pull toward her. I felt for these childhood friends-turned-lovers. They are both so wounded though in different ways. She doesn’t want to force a relationship he doesn’t remember. Tristan still can’t remember a big chunk of time before his accident, much to his frustration, and he’s having a hard time readjusting to his old life. However, they are so drawn to each other that he doesn’t need his memories because he begins to care for her all over again. It’s so lovely and messy and emotional, and I adored both of them and their angst-filled romance.

I also love Tristan’s family. Rhys, Isabelle, and Mari won my heart in A Governess Should Never Deny a Duke, and to see Rhys reunited with his twin and Mari with her beloved father was so emotional and moving. I like that the story delves into all of the conflicting and confusing emotions that not just Tristan but all of these close to him go through. Those he loves, especially Rhys, Gwen, and Mari, deal with a lot – the shock of seeing the man they thought was dead, the man they grieved for, the guilt that comes with knowing he is alive when they didn’t believe so, and the fear that he will be taken away again. Rhys, Mari, and Gwen show such a range of feelings and emotions, and it was interesting to see how they each worked through it. Gwen is also dealing with her need for adventure and her desire to be more than what her father expects of her.

Other characters were also dynamic and integral to the plot. Mrs. Pugh continues to be one of my favorites. She takes a motherly role in the house, and she adds so much vivacity and dramatics to the story. I totally get her emotional reactions. Lol. And Rhys and Tristan’s cousin is fantastic. He’s so fun and charming, though I think there are some hidden depths there. The friendship between Isabelle and Gwen is also lovely, and seeing Isabelle and Rhys so in love with each other warms my heart.

I loved this story. It was emotional and moving, and the love story was slow building and lovely. Speaking of lovely, the setting sounds gorgeous as do the special celebrations they take part in and the legends they tell! I loved these elements in the previous book, and I love them even more in this one.

Special thanks to Emily Windsor for providing me with an advanced copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

Lady Gwen Evans has decided that it is time to move on from her private mourning and finally explore the world, she even has a list entitled Deeds and Intrigues to be Sought and Gained whilst Rambling Around the Continents and their Environs or D.I.S.G.R.A.C.E. for short (how great is that??) – but before she embarks on her travels, she will spend the Advent and Christmastide at the neighboring Llanedwyn Estate, home of Rhys and Isabelle Cadogan, the Duke and Duchess of Aberdare and their friends and family, including their orphaned niece Mari. Gwen grew up with Rhys and his twin brother Tristan, and the three were great friends as children, but it wasn't until just over a year ago that things changed. Gwen and Tristan began to spend more time together when she returned from her London season and their friendship deepened and evolved into romantic love, but the feelings were still new and they decided to keep their newfound love just between them for a little while longer. And then the unthinkable happened, Tristan finally finished the boat he was building and sailed away one July afternoon, then a storm hit and he didn’t return. Despite a massive search, all they found was bits and pieces of his boat, Tristan (along with Gwen’s heart) was lost to the sea.

But Fate still had cards to play and she delivered Tristan back to his family, he had been in Ireland these last sixteen months and had suffered from amnesia and was living in a small village working as a carpenter, when a visit from a family friend triggers the return of his memory – mostly – he doesn’t recall the year before his shipwreck – which includes his newfound love for Gwen. He returns home, and her heart breaks all over again – but she refuses to tell him of their love, instead, she hopes his memory returns, if not, she will walk away. Tristan is not the same man who left Wales all those months ago and the return to his family is not as simple as one would expect, not only does he feel different, he is haunted by a faceless woman in his dreams and to complicate matters, he finds himself attracted to Gwen in a completely unfriendlike way, but until he can recall what the faceless woman means to him, he can’t in good faith pursue anything with Gwen. Oh yes, Fate is having a good time with these two and has no desire to make their path to HEA easy!

This was a well-written, nicely-paced second-chance romance brimming with emotion, but it was surprisingly light on the angst – which is a plus in my opinion! The book is filled with wonderful characters, secrets, longing, a bit of heartache, healing, new beginnings, ghouls, wassail, and finally a hard-earned HEA, complete with an epilogue. This book is set in Wales and the author does an amazing job of incorporating Welsh Yuletide customs and traditions into the story – I found the historical tidbits fascinating and especially enjoyed the “wassailing”. The book is on the “sweet” side as far as love scenes go, with only a couple of kisses and one mild love scene at the end, and while I usually like a bit more spice the story didn’t need it. This was a lovely read that I am happy to recommend and I am crossing my fingers that Hugh’s story is next!

I enjoyed the surprise of knowing who the hero is. I was ahh! Of course, it makes sense! I liked Gwen's relationship with her Papa. Usually I like spicier books with fewer words, but overall, this was cute and definitely the best of the 3!

A long awaited book, ever since I read and loved A Governess Should Never... Deny a Duke. And I was not left disappointed. EW's has a rare quality of writing pure poetry on page without once falling into purple prose. Her story is wrought with beautiful emotions, vivid landscapes, and delicate life. For instance, nothing much happens in this book (I had expected to have more heartwrenching angst) but the writing was so good that I did not find the time passing and was totally captured by the world built by her prose.

Tristan and Gwen's story was gentle and sweet, with a dab of melancholy. They took their time to get together, kept back by her self-sacrificing heart and his amnesia, but I did not mind. I lived along them during their Welsh Christmas and just imbued all the atmosphere around, content to live the moment.

P.S. I hope Hugh gets a book too!

Beautiful, poignant story of love lost and found!

“Love does not forsake come winter’s chill.
Love seeks. Love bends. Love finds.
It falters not with fate’s wicked thrill.
Love waits. Love heals. Love shines.”

Excerpt From
ARC - A Gentleman Will Never Forget a Lady

This material may be protected by copyright.

It has been 16 months since Lord Tristan was lost at sea. His brother, daughter, friends and secret love Gwen have finally moved on to some semblance of an existence without him. Only for him to return just before Christmas with only part of his memory in tact. While joyous that he has returned, there is also pain, guilt and fear mixed with their happiness. As the story unfolds, Tristan tries desperately to remember who he was while also accepting who he is. His brother and daughter wrestle with feelings of guilt and fear. Guilt over accepting his loss, fear over losing him again. While Tristan and his family find their way back to each other…poor Gwen must wait on the sidelines, helping to heal everyone’s heart as a friend of the family while hiding her deep love and passion for Tristan…a love and passion he doesn’t remember reciprocating. This book is so beautiful in all its representations of love…love between siblings, love between a parent and child…romantic love between lovers. Adding to the beauty of the book is the richness of Welsh traditions and side characters that are a delight. As with all of Ms. Windsor’s books,I was sad when it ended…but took comfort in the fact that I can read it again and again!

I received this book as an ARC and voluntarily give my review.

Thank you to Emily for this lovely eARC! This may be the most beautifully bittersweet book I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading.

Emily Windsor has outdone herself with this 42k story of childhood friends-to-lovers with an intermittent loss at sea and amnesia interrupting said relationship. Gwen and Tristan finally get their happily-ever-after in this gorgeous Welsh Christmastime love story.

Windsor’s prose is as stunning as ever and oh my god, the heartbreak and mutual pining - I was in tears every few pages. My heart ached alongside theirs, yearning for their love story to resume.

Even now, writing this, I still have tears rolling down my cheeks. It’s breathtakingly resplendent - from characters we’ve already come to love like Isabella, Rhys, Mari, and Hugh, to finally getting to know Tristan, this Christmastime love story is imbued with such camaraderie and love, it literally stopped me in my tracks multiple times. I want to melt into these pages and experience the familial devotion, the magnitude and depth of love, and the moments of laughter and levity these characters have with one another.

You need to read this, especially if you’re looking for something to put you in the holiday spirit. But regardless, you will become just as enchanted with Windsor’s creations as I have been because it's utterly magical.

A perfect book.

Back from the death is one of my favourite tropes, it has the potential of so much angst but it is not always well exploited. Here the author took care of giving us the perspective of the resurrected H’s family at having him back; una di joy mixed with fear to loose him again, guilt for having attempted to move forward.
All characters are so likeable and easy to relate too that you feel as if inside the book.

Bravo to Ma Windsor!

Tristan and Gwen’s story was full of sorrow, hope, and love. Although not necessary to have read the previous book, I strongly suggest it not only to enhance this story but because it also is a 5 star romance.

DNF @ 8%. Not a fan of some of the stylistic choices (e.g. the writing sometimes has a staccato rhythm, other sentence trail off… then the next sentence is kind of abrupt like it’s meant to shock you awake). I’m intrigued by the storyline but the writing style just isn’t for me.

I have read almost 100 books this year and A Gentleman Will Never…Forget a Lady ranks in my top 3. Wow. I have been looking forward to Lady Gwen’s story and it did not disappoint. Every chapter is so powerful and full of emotion - I couldn’t put it down, nor stop crying. Think of the feeling you experience when something profound happens within a story: the slight flutter in your heart and the anticipation of what is to come. Maybe it’s the moment a character finally notices another; maybe it’s when one finally declares his/her love for another; maybe it’s the first kiss. Imagine experiencing that feeling throughout an entire story…Emily Windsor has achieved it. I felt it as I turned every page. The characters are witty and wonderful. The storyline is unique and intriguing. And the amount of love in this story is absolutely beautiful. Fatherly love, selfless love, friendly love, romantic love…so much love. The laughs, memories, tears, longing, selflessness, courage, strength, new beginnings - you experience it alongside the characters, making you long to be a part of this family as well. A breathtaking story - one of my favorites of all time.

I received a complimentary ARC from the author. This is my voluntary and honest review.

Will he realize who has been calling him from his dreams …

I remember while reading the previous book about being sad for Gwen who had once finally touched love with the tip of her fingers to loose it immediately.
Now here is her chance to see this love at last comes to fruition if her lover can remember her beyond the friend she has been for him her whole life.
Tristan is no more the man who left on a short adventure some month ago, he is now broken, physically changed and with missing memories about the year prior to his accident.
Now he must readapt himself to his former life but everyone seems to walk on eggs around him. Plus he can’t shake the feeling there is something very important he is missing.
Gwen after mourning Tristan’s disappearance, is finally ready to live her life for herself, to follow her wants even with her heart broken.
But with him back with no idea of their burgeoning romance what is she to do, stay or leave…

A moving tale of a fated love nor absence nor distance will be able to erase fully.

A Gentleman Will Never Forget...A Lady by Emily Windsor Book Review on Njkinny's Blog
Read my complete Review and more on Njkinny's Blog

I loved Gwen in “A Governess Should Never… Deny a Duke“, and had been so eager to read her own story. So when I heard about this new book, I jumped to read it. And I am so glad that I did. This book is such a heartwarming read perfect for the Christmas season.

A quick and engrossing read, this book held me captive right from the start. And then left me smiling wide, feeling so happily satisfied!

Both Gwen and Tristan’s characters are so endearing, and had me totally rooting for their happy ending. I adored their heartfelt feelings for each other, and cried over their hardships and struggles.

I also learned so much about the Welsh way of celebrating Christmas. Emily’s fluid and engaging narration made me feel part of the story. And I absolutely adored each second spent staying at the Welsh manor, and celebrating Christmas their style.

Another highlight of this book is the sensitive and relatable way in which the author shows the impact a tragedy has on a family. Tristan’s supposed death and then his reappearance affected each and every member of the family.

All in all, this book is like a warm hug, and a dose of happiness that restores our faith in true love. An enjoyable read, Njkinny recommends this loveable regency romance to all romance lovers. Get in the holiday spirit, visit the rugged Wales, witness the power of true love and fall in love with love, and finally celebrate Christmas the Welsh style in Emily Windsor’s latest historical romance, A Gentleman Will Never…Forget a Lady.

It is the Christmas Season in Wales, Lady Gwen is spending it with her neighbors. All her life the families have been close, but with the death of Tristan, they have been mourning their loss. She has never shared her secret with them that she was madly in love with Tristan and Tristan with her. However, life moves on and she is planning on going on a trip to explore the world after this holiday.

Unexpectedly, Tristan survived his ordeal and has suffered amnesia until most recently. Suddenly Tristan is home and surrounded by his family and Gwen. The sad part is that he does not remember her or their time together. Gwen quietly mourns his loss a second time, while helping the family forge a new relationship with him. Gwen spends time with him hoping for a miracle in the season of hope.

Gwen’s love for Tristan and her understanding of the situation almost makes it bearable. The novel of course does not end so suddenly there and we are rewarded with a HEA, but it is the journey that makes it such a wonderful story.

Emily Windsor’s newest novel is a wonderful read and some great Welsh Christmas activities. Better yet it is filled with a wonderful love story of Gwen and Tristan. A Gentleman Will Never Forget a Lady is a great read!

Emily Windsor remains one of my favorite HR authors. Her writing is just so lyrical, her descriptions and use of language poetic without being overdone. Her MC's are typically intelligent and charming, the secondary characters infused with just enough humor. This contains all of the positive elements of her previous books. I was happy that Gwen and Tristan had a second chance to find their way to their HEA and thought their bond was believable. I also really enjoyed the research into Welsh folklore and customs.

On the downside, this is quite short, more novella length, so the plot is pared down and the conflict basic. Really, it could have been resolved sooner if Gwen had just communicated with Tristan about their past. I remained a bit unclear as to why she didn't share with him more about the mementos they'd given each other, which could have helped him remember sooner.

Overall, though, this is a lovely Christmas-themed read, and I look forward to future books in this series. I'm particularly interested in Hugh's story after reading this.

Steam level: 1-2. The one sex scene is more romantic than graphic, which works well for a book of this length.

Excellent.

A Gentleman Will Never Forget a Lady.
(The Governess Chronicles Book 3)

A sweet, easy read.

I have been looking forward to this novel since reading its predecessor “A Governess Should Never Deny A Duke” (The Governess Chronicles book 2)
I would strongly suggest reading book 2 prior to book 3 as it lays the foundation for an investment in this couple.
Book two ran me thru nearly every emotion I have and kept me on the edge throughout… this book allowed a gentle return of my equilibrium to normal, though that having been said I did feel some angst and intrigue in parts.
Overall a lovely novel and even though it is a more sedate read than previous novels by Emily Windsor (that I have read) it was well worth the wait and the time I spent to read it.
I feel there is more romance in the future for this family and am anticipating that Hugh may yet have a story and a rollicking good one at that!

I received a complimentary ARC but have also pre-ordered a copy. All opinions are my own and I shall re-visit these novels again in the future to read in order.

An achingly beautiful novel, exactly what I’ve come to expect by this extremely talented author. I so wanted to read about Tristan when he was mentioned in the previous book and I wasn’t disappointed at all when he made his appearance. He’s kind, he’s strong, he’s broken and his struggle to heal and have his life back almost broke my heart. And Gwen is an extraordinarily lovable character who really deserved her HEA. I loved the gorgeous descriptions of the breathtaking winter landscape of Wales and I enjoyed learning the various Welsh Christmas traditions. I loved that all the characters of the book played a role in the story and that their feelings for the death, and return, of Tristan were so delicately examined and made up a very important part of the plot. In brief, I LOVED this book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A lovely story

I really loved everything about this story. All the characters are likeable, solid people. The love story is sweet, but not overly so. It's just a feel good read. Gwen and Tristan were childhood friends before they discovered their love for each other. Then pieces of Tristan's ship wash ashore after a storm and he is presumed dead. He's found over a year later but without his memory, he and Gwen must find their way back to each other. It's all well written, but maybe what I liked the most is the fact everyone in it is honorable. There are no mistresses, past or present, no bed hopping, no rakes or rogues, no illicit flirting, no mean-spirited characters. As I said, just a feel good story. Thank you, Emily. Enjoy!

Lovely

This is true romance, the kind that appeals to the romantic heart and soul - a nice book about loving. It is a beautiful read, a simple but believable plot that has pages filled to capacity with wonderful leading characters and equally wonderful periphery characters. The book is full of warmth and family feeling and as we watch two people struggle to find each other again, we find ourselves so caught up with the connection that we have to keep reading and then are sad to say goodbye.
The novel is peppered with beautiful prose, has a smooth pace and is an absolute delight.

Gwen’s second chance

I absolutely loved Gwen & Tristians story. Tristian thought to be dead these16 months is recognized in Ireland working at a boat craftsman. As soon as his name is said, almost all his memories come crashing back.
Gwen loved Tristian and since he was gone decided to travel to help with her anguish. But when Tristian appears from the dead all seems lost since he does not remember their love.
As time goes by she must come to a conclusion that his full memory might never come back.
Such a beautifully written story with a wonderful ending.

Wonderful Story to help heal my heart ❤️

Emily Windsor wrote the perfect story to help heal my heart. My son, Michael, died and I am heart sore 💔.
Emily's wonderful writing about loss and grief has helped me.
Michael will never return to this life as Tristan did, but knowing he was happy at the end helps me.
I recommend this story as it is clean, and the characters are well-developed and unique in their flaws and strengths.
The reader will enjoy this book from Chapter One until the last page.

I love the “turns out he’s not really dead” trope, and I think Emily Windsor does it very well here. I’m also in love with the Welsh setting of this book and the previous one. This time around, we also get to experience the Welsh customs and traditions related to Christmas. Though it’s not really a holiday book, it would be a good one to read (or re-read) during the winter holiday season.

Along with a touching romance, we get more of the author’s trademark humor, vivid secondary characters, and sense of family and friendship.

And now I’m eagerly awaiting Hugh’s book!

Oh my! It's almost Shakespearean! A twin who disappeared in a sea storm and was presumed dead! This is Tristan, the much loved twin brother of the Duke of "A governess should never…deny a duke". Unexpectedly, Tristan reappears, but with scars on his body and in his memory.

Through a tortuous path in what he remembers of his past, he will be able to find the faceless woman who supported him during the months in which he lost his memory. His sweet love.
Again the descriptions of a snowy and wild Wales make you want to visit it.

4.25 I loved the previous book so much I went straight into this novella. This one was very good, albeit short. You could read this as a standalone, I think, but it really needs to be read along with the previous book. You really get to know the characters so much better. It dealt with the amnesia trope, which is not really a favorite of mine, but it was done well. It was well written and while I enjoyed it, it's not a keeper like the previous book. I am really excited for the next one though.

It is truly a Christmas novel...well done!

“I wrote of hope… How it is a word made up of wishes, desires and promises, but similar to the moon, it can too swiftly be cast to darkness – thwarted by life’s twists and turns, belittled or dashed to naught.” She twisted in his arms and that moon’s glow fell upon Tristan. “But then, just when all seems lost, an arc of light appears, fine and reborn. And hope waxes again. Until full. Never defeated. Never lost.” (Epilogue excerpt)

This book is not as good as the second in the series, but the author still spreads her magic.
I'm pretty picky with my stars so giving it 3.5 stars but most readers would give 4 stars for the same level of enjoyment.
This is an amnesia romance. Tristan was lost at sea and presumed dead for 16 months so he doesn't remember his illicit affair with his long-time childhood friend Gwen. I would have liked the angst to be more all consuming since this is a great premise for a long unrequited love to be briefly requited - only to be lost again but that is not exactly how the story good.
This author is phenomenal and I will definitely be checking out her backlist.
