The Spades Brothers #1

Accidental Baby For My Brother's Best Friend

Rate this book
My brother’s best friend should come with a warning label…Never give him your V card.

Locke doesn’t do romantic entanglements that last more than a single song.

He doesn’t need a girlfriend, especially a young, inexperienced one.

No man that talented and good looking wants to commit to a nobody like me.

When finally given the chance to roll in the sheets with him I can’t pass it up.

He rocks my world the same way he rocks the stage, hard and with passion.

It was only supposed to be one night, but fate had other plans.

I gave him my V card, but he gifted me something in return that neither of us expected.

Now it's time I tell this Rockstar he’s about to be a daddy…

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: brother's best friend, accidental pregnancy
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

Cute story! I definitely wish some it could have been flashed out more - especially at the end when we had time jumps. Totally invested in this crew, though, and will read the other books in the series!

I loved the forced proximity between the main characters while maintaining the enemies to lovers trope. The descriptions of their surroundings painted a picture for me. Though there seemed to be some unresolved tie ins concerning the brother, I'm hoping that's a set up for a spin-off.

What an awesome age gap novel! This focuses on Gemma Arden, 21 years old managing her brother’s band, Jack and the Spades, and Locke, the drummer of the bad. These two have so much tension between them that you could just give them a little push and they’d be all over each other and the forced proximity between them might just give them the push they need.

This was the first book I've read by Callie Stevens. I always want to give new to me authors a chance to win me over. This book was just an OK read for me.

What trope isn't here? Brother's bestfriend, friends to lovers, accidental baby, virgin heroine, brooding bad boy rock star...have I missed any?

I like intelligent books, and by that I mean books that have people actually talking to each other and not getting upset by their perceptions of what the other person means. Rather than storming out of a situation, I'd like a little conversation. Fully three quarters of the book was all about the arguing, misunderstandings, flirting, hiding what they really felt, and being angry. When everyone finally got on the same page and the book got much more interesting, poof, we were at the epilogue.

Not a bad read, just not my favorite. Three stars because anyone who can publish a book and put themselves out there have my admiration. I'm sure there will be many people who absolutely love this book. Abundant tropes and all!

This was okay.

Nicely written, easy to read and follow, the storyline flowed pretty well, the chemistry between Locke and Gemma was good, I really like their tension and the forbidden as well as jealousy vibes going on, definitely interesting.

However, there were some points that I didn’t really like:
1. The repetitiveness of some details.

For example, the guys were attractive, I know, she knows, literally everyone knows. But the way the FMC kept mentioning how attractive they were again and again just to make a point that there was no way she could be attracted to the MMC since she was somehow immune to all of these attractiveness she got to surround every day.

Or like how she kept mentioning Susie something from 10th grade, literally the full title in each and every mention, which I’m guessing would be someone in the band’s next love interest, but it got real annoyed after the second time, and I’m not even kidding, look at this:
“I owe Susie Carmichael from tenth grade an apology.”

“Once again, I think that I owe my best friend Susie Carmichael from tenth grade an apology,…”

“Susie, my best friend from high school,…”

Girl I get it just stop I’m begging you please.

Me:

Gemma:

2. Their communication.

They seriously need to figure out how it work because most of the dramas here happened because they refused to communicate with each other and jumped right into their assumptions. Also, why tf it took them a whole year to finally talk everything out and explain sh*t that clearly bothered them from the start, or was it just me who was bothered? Welp idk I guess it’s just me.

Overall, this was okay. But will I read it again? I’m not so sure.

This book was an odd one for me; I did like the slow burn from frenemies to lovers, but immature antics did get annoying for me.

Locke is 11 years older than Gemma who is 21 years old and they do not have the best relationship, I would definitely classify them as frenemies. Locke is best friends with Jackson, Gemma’s older brother, and they are in rock band along with Axel and Samuel; apparently, things are going well and Gemma, their manager, has set up a tour for them.

Now it should be stated that while Gemma dislikes Locke, it seems Locke always a little something for Gemma which only gets worse during their close proximity on tour. This is where the slow burn happens and when I say slow burn I mean in feelings because they pretty much go from 0 to 100 in the sex department. I loved the gradual realization by Locke for his feelings for Gemma, but I was not a fan of how Gemma handled anything related to Locke.

Gemma used basically every high school trick you could think of to make Locke jealous or at least taunt him with the possibility of her sleeping him and Axel simultaneously, which was not the case. Then of course when she realizes she is pregnant she essentially pretends it’s Axel’s baby! Meanwhile this entire time she is sleeping with Locke (hiding it from her brother) she is treating Locke like trash. Then, when Locke finally snaps she’s like maybe he’s not good father material because of his anger issues (this girl, yes girl, gave me headaches). Not to mention, they were all drunk pretty much 24/7 which is “normal” for rock bands, but they were also driving themselves for the tour and they suspected that maybe Jackson, who was driving, might be hooking up with a girl or getting drunk, but they let him drive anyway because he seemed alright and it avoided any problems.

It was just unnecessary drama throughout the whole book and then the ending was rushed. I wanted to see Locke and Gemma as a functional couple who actually looked like they were happy to be together.

I originally started this book so that I could read Axel’s book, but I might take a little break first.

This is an age gap unexpected pregnancy rockstar romance between Locke and Gemma. Locke doesn't do relationships that last more than a few weeks. His best friend Jackson is the bands lead singer and his sister Gemma their manager. Locke admits he likes Gemma but would never risk the friendship with his best friend or the band. Gemma and Locke are always bumping heads and now that they have been in bed once they seem to not be able to stay away there.

My rating:☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️(5/5)
This was my first Rockstar romance and I loved it!! I have read a accidental pregnancy trope in the past but this one was way better! And cuter!!! Gemma and Locke were too cute!!! The conflict of having feelings for his best friends sister is felt every time you are in Locke's POV. Gemma may fight her feelings the most but she is always looking for his approval but isn't afraid to stand up for him. Especially if it benefits the band.

🚨🚨Spoilers below read at your own risk🚨🚨

Axel and Samuel sound like a trip! We could all use friends like that in our lifes! Gemma relying on them was cute. Since she didn't know where she stood with Locke she would confess things to them that she couldn't say to Locke. I would of loved it if Jackson had found out a different way. It had me cracking up that for a whole year Locke thought Gemma and Axel had had something and Gemma thought for a whole year Locke had a fling with another girl after finding out she was pregnant.

I wanted to love this but I never got fully invested.
The title is a bit misleading as there is very little about the pregnancy.
This started good as a rocker falling for the girl and it was good, it started loosing me when there was so much going on but didn’t go into it, enough to intrigue but then dropped and left unanswered.
Then Gemma is pregnant by Locke, and she lets him think she and axel are together a bit of a mind fu@k which was just childish so I didn’t really take to Gemma as she was immature in many ways.
When she starts bleeding and wants her brother I thought ok here we go now it’s going to get good but no.
No mention of Locke Jackson and axel rushing to the hospital to her, instead they got arrested for fighting then Gemma bailed them out!!!
Her brother Jackson wouldn’t have gone to find the guys to punch them, he’d hot foot it to Gemma in hospital when she wanted and needed her anything else could wait.
But it ignored she was in hospital the story flipped from her bleeding wanting her brother to the fight and arrest then Gemma was bailing them out then driving the bus!!! Not realistic she would be resting and no man would have it any other way!!!
If my sister friend or baby momma ( as she was to the 3 guys) she would not be driving them round in a bus after a bleed serious or not.
Don’t think I’ll read the next book

Locke and Gemma have known each other for years because of Jackson, her brother and his best friend. The guys are in a band together and just started a tour put together by Gemma, as she is their manager. Gemma and Locke have an attraction towards each other, they both fight, one reason is because of Jackson. But they cannot go on any longer without acting on it. They start with a physical relationship which they both don't want to go any further but emotions come into play.

Gemma and Locke are complex characters, he has a past that he is trying to get over and she is a 21 year old virgin that has been protected for years by her older brother. They have to decide what they want. Locke knows how he feels but keeps getting distracted by her friendships with other guys thinking something is going on. They both unintentionally hurt each other with relationships that aren't what they seem. When Gemma ends up pregnant we see everyone work together in one way or another to help her, watch over her, and give her what she needs/wants. I think she is stronger than all the guys give her credit for and she is great at bringing them out of their shell or grumpiness when they are in a funk. Cute story.

Accidental Baby For My Brother’s Best Friend is a full length standalone by Callie Stevens. This book hits many tropes: age gap, rockstar romance, bad boys, surprise pregnancy, steamy, virgin heroine, and brother’s best friend.

Gemma Arden may only be 21-years-old but she has managed her brother Jackson’s band, Jack and the Spades, since she turned 18. She has great business sense and raises enough money for the band to go on tour. The other band members are the broody Locke Kincaid, the flirt Axel Jermaine, and the youngster Samuel Hansen. Locke doesn’t do relationships and he certainly would never make a pass at his best friend’s sister. Except he realizes she’s not a little girl anymore and one fateful night changes the trajectory of his future.

This was an entertaining read. I do wish that I had connected more with Gemma during her POV chapters but it was refreshing to get more information from Locke’s POV. The steam was great and I’m glad it ended with a happily-ever-after!

Tropes: Age gap, rockstar romance, bad boys, surprise pregnancy, virgin heroine, brother’s best friend, happily-ever-after
Heat: 2/5.

This is a unique story that gives us a bad boy rockstar, friends to lovers, surprise pregnancy, enemies to lovers and a bit more. Jackson and Locke are best friends with 2 other band mates, Samuel and Alex that are going on their 1st official tour all due to Jackson’s younger sister, Gemma their band manager. Locke and Gemma start out as enemies as Locke is the oldest band member who ran the band so they step on one another’s toes. When the tour starts all 5 are in close quarters and Gemma has an attraction towards Alex but he never gives in as his past and pain from it stops him. Locke has a misunderstanding from what he sees and gets mad. When Locke and Gemma finally let go and spend the night together after too much drinking to only keeping repeating their time together in private. They fall in love with each other but know how to talk to one another. Locke is having a hard time with his past and being with his best friends little sister and Gemma has a secret she’s hiding from Locke and Jackson. Once these two get on the same page they find their hit record to Love! I hope to read about the other guys in the band. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Hot Enemies to Lovers, Age Gap Rock Star Romance!!!!

Gemma is the younger sister to the lead singer in the band. Locke is the band’s drummer and best friend to Gemma’s brother. The two start off not liking one enough but the pull between the two is tangible. The reader feels the angst that exists between these two and the struggles that Locke has with coming to terms with his desires for his best friend’s little sister who is a lot younger than he is.

I really enjoyed reading this gem of a book!!! I worry that the title may sway people from reading it, but please take a chance as this is a great Rock Star read!!! I hope the author considers making this a series as I think that there are great stories to be told about all of the secondary characters in the book as well. This author does a great job of incorporating them into the storyline and I fell for each of them as much as I did for Locke and Gemma and want more about everyone!!!!!

This is a hard review for me to write for a few reasons. Ms. Stevens is a new to me author and I feel that she deserves all the praise for putting herself out there. It takes a lot to put your "babies" out in the world to be criticized by strange people. However I have to admit I was not a fan of either MC. Gemma may have been 21 but she seemed bratty and still immature to me, especially when she wasn't willing to talk to Locke. She actually pissed me off a lot. Locke made me mad with his lack of support and jealousy. He constantly saw and thought what he wanted to think instead of getting the real answers. It got annoying. Both of these MC's lacked communication skills. Talking to each other would have made things easier, instead the lack of talking just added to the drama. The inner monologs got annoying after awhile. In the end this was a decent book. It just felt to dramatic and immature for me.

Rating 3.5 stars. Received as an ARC and leaving my honest review voluntarily. This had an enemies to lovers trope mixed with brother's best friend trope mixed with rockstar romance. I didn't love this story as much as I wanted unfortunately. The rockstar lifestyle of over-indulging in booze and sex was in the story and there was tension and steam between Locke and Gemma but things just felt unresolved, even at the end. There was zero communication between them, just a lot of inner monologue and a lot of assumptions and shutting down (choosing to remain angry and upset), which in turn made the story feel dragged out and slow. I enjoy reading enemies to lovers stories but I expect growth in the relationship which means communication and resolution. Personally the story didn't work for me, but don't let it stop you from reading and making your own opinion.

Steamy Rock Star Romance
It took me a couple pages to get invested with this story, but then I could not put it down. Twenty-one year old Gemma Arden is the manager of her brother’s rock band, Jack and the Spade. She has arranged for the band to go on tour. During their tour she plans to get rid of her innocence to one of the band mates. Locke Kincaid, is just her type, grungy bad boy, but it is not him she sets her sites on. Gemma is just Locke’s type too, sassy and easy on the eyes, but she is more than ten years younger than him and his best friend’s sister so definitely off limits. Best laid plans can change though. This is an enjoyable contemporary rock star romance with captivating drama and intriguing characters. It is the first book I have read by Callie Stevens, but I am certainly looking forward to reading more of her books - especially in this series.

Accidental Baby for My Brother’s Best Friend had me hooked in the first chapter. I was drawn to the details of the story. The band has a strong family.

Gemma Arden has developed a close relationship with her older brother, Jackson, since their parents death. Jackson has dragged Gemma with him to better watch over her. When she takes over managing his band, Jackson is only worried about Gemma getting hurt. Gemma wants to have a life of her own. She is twenty one years old and had few relationships.

Locke Kincaid is the drummer for the band. He is also Jackson’s best friend. Locke has started to see Gemma as a woman instead of his best friend’s little sister. When Gemma starts showing interest in another band member, Locke rethinks his feelings and ideas of Gemma. Will he try his luck? Will the band survive their relationship?.

The author, Callie Stevens, has a tremendous talent in writing great romance books. Her book, “Accidental Baby For My Brother’s Best Friend” held my attention from the start. The main characters, Gemma and Locke are truly believable. Locke the drummer in the band is older and has gone through one relationship already that ended badly so he was not looking for any one special. Gemma, baby sister to the lead singer Jackson, on the other had was 11 years younger than Locke and has taken over the managing part of the band. Locke was originally handling some of those duties and felt he had more experience. So, needless to say, sparks did fly between the two of them. If you like reading about rockstar romance that has age gap, brother’s best friend, bad boy rockers, and a surprise pregnancy this is definitely one I would recommend.

For two years Locke has been playing drums for Jackson, lead singer, Axel, lead guitar, and Samuel, on bass. Jackson's younger sister has been acting as manager; now that she's 21 she can go to the clubs with them when they play. She's used most of the $20,000 left from their parents' estate and saved enough to buy a stash of the album they cut and plan a tour from LA to Nashville and rent a touring bus! They are a happy family except for squabbles between Locke and Gemma. However, Locke has been feeling different toward Gemma and she is wanting to lose her V-card to one of the guys on this trip. And it seems as if Jackson has become interested in a groupie that's following them around, therefore, he's distracted from being the overprotective big brother. Gemma has chosen Axel. Read this story to learn how the mice play when the lead singer is distracted and not using the hotel room that's been booked for him! Recommended.

Short and Sweet

When the band Spade decides on a bus tour, things get hectic for Gemma the 21 year old singer and manager of sorts for the band that includes her brother Jackson and his best friend Locke, and Samuel and Axel. Jackson has been so protective of his sister since his parents are dead, and he warns the other band mates to stay away from Gemma. She has other plans, and has decided that she wants Axel to take her v-card so she can move on. When it is Locke, the 31 year old old guy of the band that takes her virginity, they can’t seem to stop sneaking around sleeping together right under he brother’s nose. There aren’t a lot of in-depth explanations about the players or an explanation for Jackson’s absence after each concert. When Gemma finds out she is pregnant, the storyline suddenly is wrapped neat and tidy for Gemma, Locke and their son Cain and the band achieves fame and the book ends in a HEA for now.

Age Gap, Rockstar, Brother's best friend romance. So many tropes but they all come together so wonderfully in this story. Locke is the drummer for Jack and the Spades and Gemma is their manager. She is also the sister of the lead singer and her brother, Jackson, has told all of the members of the band that Gemma is off limits. Of course, they listen, but only for a while. Locke finally has enough and makes his move, but that drunken night leads to a lot more things than a relationship.

I loved how even though Gemma is young, she's a badass and she's the one who is really in charge. She makes a decision for herself and her baby; while she's not leaving Locke out of it necessarily, she doesn't need him to make a decision for her. And Locke, he's all in once he realizes that he's really in love. And they are adorable together!

I absolutely can't pass up a rock star trope, so I snagged this one up quick!

Gemma (21) is the manager of her brother's band, Jack and the Spades. Locke (32) is the drummer of said band.

I had a hard time getting into this one because I just couldn't connect with the characters. Gemma acted kinda immature for her 21 years, and Locke…ergh! I love me a broody man, but c'mon! One relationship and you're done?

It takes a while to get there but they do get there. It's a lot of angsty fighting, sexual chemistry, and growly Locke. This book is a bevy of tropes too, which is fun. Age gap, brother's best friend, rock star, unplanned pregnancy, enemies to lovers.

Always check the TW/CW:
💥age gap (21 & 32)
💥surprise pregnancy

Anywho! Time to wrap this up with the goodies:

2.5 that I’ll bump up to 3 full stars. This is an age-gap romance but the gap is between an early 30-year-old and an early 20-year-old. Gemma is the manager for the rock band, Jack and the Spades, her brother’s band. Locke is the moody drummer and the “old man” of the group. They feel a connection to one another, but there is no way they are acting on it. Until that one night….

This is a story you’ve read before, nothing new. The writing is entertaining and the characters are good (not great, but good). The thing I liked most was the family feel of the band. Locke and Gemma have difficulty talking to one another before leaping to conclusions. This creates most of their problems. Most of the book was about the lack of communication and the problems that didn’t have to happen. When they finally figured it out the book rushed to a conclusion.

Enemies-to-lovers AND best friend’s sister
What a mess! They hate each other but are attracted to each other. So, when liquor flows a tad too much and they end in a hotel room together… not only once but repeatedly, well the result is quite predictable. A baby.
Jees people! Never heard of protection?
Such a typical story. I know, as a mother, when my daughter became 14 and had her first boyfriend, I took her to the doctor and had the pill prescribed and then drilled her, and drilled her in taking her pill without fail. It must be as simple as brushing her teeth. Of course, ‘little bit’ had no mother to do that for her and you can’t expect a brother to do the same. But still!

This is Locke and Gemma’s story. Locke is the drummer in a rock band, Jackson Gemma’s brother is the lead singer, and Gemma manages the band. Locke does not do relationships, and he and Gemma continually butt heads, but the dynamics change when they share a steamy night together, which results in a surprise package. This is a well written story which is an age gap rock star romance, with family, friendships, conflict, turmoil, humor, witty banter, surprises, tension, emotions, and love, which leas to an entertaining and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Gemma's 21 years old and is the manager of her brother Jackson’s band, Jack and the Spades, a job she's had for three years. Her management tactics have meant that the band is about to go on tour, that said I found her communication skills when it can to her personal life lacking and she seemed very immature to me.

The band members are, her brother Jackson, the broody drummer Locke Kincaid, Axel Jermaine the flirt, and Samuel Hansen he's the youngster of the crew. Locke's broody and bitter and doesn’t do relationships but then...... Because of the Bro Code, he's never thought about Gemma, his best friend’s sister, as anything other than their manager but then one fateful night everything changes and his future looks set to change forever.

Gemma is helping her brother's band by being the manager and promoter for them. She has booked a tour for them and is excited to see how things go for them. During the tour Gemma slowly grows close to the other band members. However, its Locke that she is interested in. When Locke sees her with another band member, he gets jealous thinking she might be with that person. Gemma is just trying to make sure they make it through the tour with good reviews. Will Locke admit his feelings for Gemma? What will her brother say about them being together?

This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. This is a book that any book lover would enjoy.

A great story is this Gemma is manager and promoter for her brother's band. When she goes on tour together because she wants to know how they are on tour and gets to know Locke better there and she wanted that. Locke has feelings for Gemma and doesn't admit it, but gets very jealous when he thinks she's dating one of the other band members. You hope Locke gets smart and lets Gemma know how he feels about her, and what will brother think and say when he finds out that both have feelings for each other. This story will keep you glued to your book from start to finish. Highly recommended, great story and characters with great characters.

This is my first listen to an audiobook by this author, but it certainly won't be my last. This story was an absolute knockout. I'm not usually all that fussed with stories centred on rock bands, but I was quickly drawn into the characters of the band and their journey. Gemma and Locke had a chaotic relationship, and the passion explosion seemed to come out of nowhere, but it was full-speed ahead from then on (all be it on the down low). The narration by Gideon Frost and Stefanie Kay was spot on. I dropped 1 star from my rating (which may be a bit harsh) because I didn't like the huge jump forward of a whole year in the final chapter. I really would have liked to know more about that year! However, I'm looking forward to listening to more stories about the members of The Spades.

This wasn't exactly my kind of book. If you like huge age gap romances than you might like this one. There was not a lot of chemistry between Gemma and Locke or any of the guys for that matter. She kept saying she was not a teenager but she was only 21 which is not far from a teenager. He is 32 and what can he possibly see in her at her age? There was not a lot of communication between the main characters, no real romance. If she was a mature woman she would not have tried to hide her pregnancy from the father or treat him like crap.
