Akira and the gang head out to save the world. Their goal? Hokkaido and the northernmost tip of Japan. Why? Because they feel like it. Unfortunately, they run out of gas 246 kilometers short of their destination. Can an item on their bucket list save the day? Later, the gang find themselves in a luxurious but strange hotel. Will their wild and extravagant party be their last?
Akira Tendo and the gang are back to bucket list items as they make their way to Hokkaido for an adventure that's just a little too random and more far-fetched than usual. A nice visit with the characters, but a bit disappointing when it comes to humor and energy.
The bonus story is the best part as the author does some cross-promotion and sends an alternate universe Akira into the death games of his Alice in Borderland series, and we find that Akira handles that situation with the same enthusiasm he has for a zombie apocalypse.
It's books like these that show that sometimes mangaka have aspirations beyond the story they have set up for themselves. Sometimes you gotta throw in some sports-anime nonsense and some OFF-THE-WALL-MAD-SCIENTIST NONSENSE into your story about people trying to survive a zombie apocalypse. Dream big dreams y'all.
After saving his home, Akira now wants to find a cure for the zombie infection. His attempts, however, look a lot like screwing around with the bucket list still. From long distance running to blatant tourism to a resort with an Ursa Major problem, there’s a lot going on here. Plus the most bizarre guest appearance I’ve ever seen.
Phew, after a lot of serious-ish storytelling in the previous chapters, it’s back on the road for our gang. Things start off really silly and just proceed from there, to a degree that is a little much even for this series.
One of the weirdest things in manga, and one that I find to be an incredible snore, is the travelogue that just gushes about a location ad nauseum for a protracted page count. Oh, did I mention this chapter very specifically takes place in Hokkaido? No? You’d never guess.
Once we’re done hearing about the region, we quickly move to the real meat of this story - trying to reach the northernmost point in Japan. Which suddenly turns into running a spartathlon as well.
I appreciate the nod to crazy people like myself who like distance running, but it’s not the most realistic portrayal of the destruction wrought on you by such an event. However, this does lead to that guest appearance, which is so off-the-chart nuts that I really enjoyed it anyway.
The next storyline takes the remaining chapters and is, I have to say, probably the worst narrative in the series’ history. Our crew hole up in a completely automated resort and get some luxury downtime, which is fine enough, and that passes the time before the inevitable twist rears its head.
Said twist, however, is absolutely dumb and carried off in such a way that it not only damsels the women, but just… ugh. It’s going for a question of humanity and its place in the face of increasing AI and all this, but it’s also presented so, so poorly. Some serious cringe there.
Now, when the finale comes and this thing goes full JoJo just for the hell of it, it’s a lot of fun, and the tsundere of it all is fun too, but it’s not going down as a classic of the series’ run, that’s for sure.
The book ends with a blatant plug for Alice in Borderland that’s actually super fun - even with pretty much minimal context I was able to get the gist and Akira absolutely makes the joke work. I also liked that they bagged on how this was the work that needed the boost, not the author’s previous work.
3 stars - enough decent bits and fun stuff keep this out of the doldrums, but it’s a close call and I’m not going to pretend that a huge chunk of this was especially good at all.
Zombies, hilarious situations, a hotel filled with AI robots, and something more!
In this book our crew is on the way through Japan. Their bucketlist is getting emptier but they have some fun things still there and I know that they are adding new ones when they think about one. Things are going pretty smooth… until the camper is out of gas (how the fuck did they not notice that?) and from that point the absurdity of it all just rises to a peak level, and not all of the things I was a fan of.
I did like seeing the characters have a fun time discovering. I loved seeing Akira and Shizuka getting some moments (and I am definitely hoping for many more). I loved that the hotel was AI-run, I am not a fan of AI that much, but as a robot thing? It is kind of cool. Though I have read enough books about AI going rogue, so I was preparing myself just in case that would happen. I loved that we saw our crew relax FINALLY. Take a bath. Dress up nicely. Stuff their faces in with yummy food. Jump on the beds and just lie on them enjoying the feeling of it. Just a bit of a moment between all the death and craziness of the world. However, I knew that something was up, so I was just waiting for that to happen. Come on, it was just all way too sus. I don’t see it as a spoiler. But I loved seeing our crew just have fun. Go wild. Put their barriers down.
And then things go south…. and whatever is going on in the hotel? Well.. I could kind of understand why at points, but I also wasn’t a fan. I know that the story is weird/absurd at times, but this just didn’t click for me. I don’t want to give away too much, so there we are. I did have a laugh at the drones and the zombies. Now, where can we get that many drones? XD
But while I love the absurdity of it all… I wasn’t such a fan of them going to run 200+ km. Without any training. Without much food. Without any support or houses to take shelter in. I would have rather seen them hike to a nearby city, get some gas and run back. Then again, given some stuff happening later on that may have formed a problem, but I am still wondering now if they will get their camper back or not? I mean, I would love it because it just made everything so much more fun than endless walking that is often happening in books.
I had fun reading the volume though, even if it got a bit weird and more absurd than it was already, love the hotel, love the secret plans, ZOMBIE BEAR, love seeing Shizuka and Akira, and there was plenty of action! I need to get the other volumes that are out, SOON.
So the next leg of the journey is to go to Hokkaido (and hopefully find a cure for the zombies so Akira can get his dad surgery for his hemorrhoids). But then the van runs out of gas in the middle of nowhere, exactly 246km from the northernmost tip of Hokkaido. BUCKET LIST TIME!
And you'll never guess what they find there or which items get crossed off the list. It seems impossible, but somehow they did it.
Yo! They went too far with the AI concept in this volume. But it was fun, seeing the characters unwind lavishly after running a literal Spartathalon. Overall, a cozy volume.
Zombi Olmadan Önce Mutlaka Yapmak İstediğim 100 Şey
42. Fırın kebabı yerken manga oku! 😬
Geldi çok özlediğim guilty pleasure ım. En keyifle okuduğum manga olabilir. Üstelik Urasawa vs gibi üst düzey çizimli işler dışında, klasik manga çizimlerinde gözü kanayan ben, format kaldırdığı için rahat tolere edebiliyorum burada.
Japonya çok büyük ve güzel bir ülke. Bir gün gidip kuzeyden güneye uzun uzun gezmek istiyorum. Kuzeyi biraz gözden kaçar, daha az bilinir. Bu beni daha da cezbeder. Sakinlik. Uzun yollar.
Final bölümcüğünde Haro Aso’nun netflix dizisi ile dikkat çeken yapım Alice in Borderland’in arkasındaki isim olduğundan bahsediyor. Zom100 sevgimden ötürü diziyi de merak ettim. Ama @marmaracizgi bassa da mangasını okumayı tercih ederim, isterim. Elbette öneriyorum.
Felt a bit absurd with its premise but then I remembered there was a zombie shark in volume 2, so an AI-Run hotel isn’t too bad. Also I noticed two times where drawings were resumed but I don’t really care, if it means the artist didn’t get cramps, I’m fine with it.

With a fun new setting, a pretty formidable antagonist that felt fun but not over done, this volume had me flipping pages faster than ever cause I was so excited to see what would happen to Shizuka or Bea, given this hotel seemed much too good to be true. Akira also saw some fun development and a new zombie creature was shown off which, as a fan of zombies i absolutely loved. I also loved the fun pop culture reference that was used towards the very end of this volume, 2 of them to be exact. Over all, I’m still super entertained by this series.
This is such a fun series! It gets more and more ridiculous and funny with every volume. This one had AI involved. I loved the sci-fi twist. This series continues to surprise me.
A very interesting chapter that introduces science fiction and AI elements. Makes me realize that Haro Aso is planning on making the whackiest and most fun-packet zombie story of all time (seamlessly mixed with more serious elements, and I am here for it.
This series is just fun to read, and Akira is the person you want around during the zombie apocalypse: he absolutely refuses to have a lousy time. It's just not in his nature. I don't know that it's possible for him to be a downer.
He's definitely that friend that pulls people together, has great ideas, and makes the world a more interesting place, even when it should be horrible.
It's the person I aspire to be: when you're stuck in a bad situation, which in my case is waiting for a delay at an airport or something, you want to be the person others don't mind being trapped with.
I like to make up games when I'm bored. One of my favorites is The Best Friend Game, which I made up at a baseball game because I was bored out of my goddamn mind, mostly because I was at a baseball game.
TBFG works by scanning a crowd and selecting a person who you will now be forced to be BEST friends with for the next year. You'll be at their life events, they'll be at yours, you'll see them every couple of weeks. You may be a people watcher, but this game is about people scrutinizing. Every little habit, everything they're wearing, this is all the info you have to try and base a yearlong friendship on.
Where this gets fun is your friends saying, "Ugh, no I could never be friends with someone who wears yellow shoes." You find out your friends are goddamn weirdos who really have no business just existing in the world with everyone else.
That's my life advice: Whenever you're bored, make up a game. And if you're bored while playing a game, make up your own game within the game.
WITH THE EXCEPTION OF that bullshit where someone is like, "Make cleaning the bath tub into a game! Time yourself, then see if you can beat your best time." That is NOT a game. Working hard and then seeing if you can work harder is work, dummy.
Hokkaido was a great trip. I'm really loving how this series has turned into a fun road trip all over Japan. At the start I had no idea where things were going, but they have played out really great. And it keeps things fresh to see new places all over. This volume starts with a Spartathalon, which was full of fun history facts and exericising. I also just enjoyed getting to see the nature they ran through.
The main bulk of this volume is at a hotel run by A.I. animal humans and a mad scientist in the basement. The amount of joy on display in this volume is really great as they get to live the life of luxury and their dreams. The AI are all funny and even helpful! Lambda Chop is a fun butler who seems to be great at caring for the crew, I'm glad he joins them and hope he sticks around. The whole plot of this comes straight from a classic horror movie and it totally works. The way this series plays with tropes is a delight. The core emotional point on display here is love and what it means to be in love. Akira ends up saying he believes that love is about making people happy and he also compliments Shizuka on her dress, thus deepening the possible romantic connection between them. I definitely think this volume was a great time that didn't get too bogged down in emotions and really soared in the creativity department. The zombie bear and drones and fireworks were all great touches.

RATING: 4/5 If you like AI, Sheep, and Zombie Bears you may like Zom100 Vol 7.
QUICK REVIEW Warning to readers this volume really amps up the sillyness and over-the-top style that Zom100 has been known far. It borders on rediculous but then again why else have you read 6 volumes so far. I do think the whole AI and science part of it really doesen't make sense but it was a fun read. And better yet we actually do get some relationship development between the characters. In the end I enjoyed the volume, and found myself laughing at the ridiculousness of the story.
REVIEW Oh man this volume is really over-the-top even for Zom100. Haro Aso really took the the concept of AI and ran with it. With that being said I actually enjoyed this and thought it was better than Vol 6. It is over the top but then again Zom100 has always been silly this was just amped up even more. I do enjoy we finally get some relationship building with Shizuka and Akira which was cute. I felt that in the last arc all the characters were seperated and doing their own thing which made me miss some of the interactions. This volume brings the group back together for some over the top hijinx.. I really am curious to see if Lambda Chop will be a new staple character. Would definitely recommend this just make sure to keep an open mind.
As Hiro and the gang continue the epic journey with a new goal (to find a cure) on top of the bucket list goals they find themselves suddenly out of gas! This starts a bucketlist goal (to run a marathon which in the manga is being called a Spartathlon). The team will be pushed to the limits....but this bucketlist goal actually opens up a couple others being reached on this outing! The next part of this volume finds the team at an all-robot operated luxury hotel. More bucket list goals to be chopped off...but is everything as amazing as it seems on the surface? I found this volume to be another fun read that flowed great. Art was unbelievably crisp and the situations fun and lighthearted compared to some of the heavier issues of some of the more recent volumes. This volume was just a fun romp and gets me excited for future volumes!
This is such a ridiculous manga. I kind of love it. It's definitely something I read when I need something silly and out there. Even moments of genuine sadness are turned into silly, feel good moments. Our main four characters are likeable and play off of each other well.
The situations they find themselves in are crazy, and the zombies are actually the least crazy part of it. This is not your typical zombie apocalypse manga. Plot armor plays a large part in why they're not dead yet. It is fun, though. And I've already requested the next volume.
I also had no idea this mangaka created Alice in Borderland. That was a fun little bonus chapter.
I didn't find any interest in any of the things in the volume, not them running the Spartathlon, not the AI hotel. I don't care much for AI...and wow...what's the chance that robots could turn on humans and there'd be a mad scientists behind it all? Right? EXACTLY; there was nothing new or surprising in this and I couldn't care. The Zombear thing reminded me a bit of the Zomshark and felt like a recycle. All of this as they keep going seems like a recycle; zombie hoard infests or HAS to infest every remotely safe place they find.
Another fine entry into this somewhat silly manga.
Akira and friends are heading north, to the northernmost point in Japan.... why not? When they run out of gas, they decide to do a spartathlon, a 246 kilometer long distance run. At the end, they end up at a posh 4 star resort, still being run by robots, catering to their every whim. But as out team relaxes, you know that there's something evil going on. Sure enough, a mad scientist captures our heroes for his fiendish plot.
This one is all fun, with some more foreshadowing between Akira and Shizuka. Enjoy the quick ride.
Zom 100 is about a man who works for a exploitative which leads him to depression. But then one day he wakes up in a zombie apocalypse but inside of panicking he's..... happy? He doesn't have to go into work anymore. Beatrice is still my most hated character in all of manga. But I love Zom 100 otherwise! This manga isn't as good as some other ones but it's a fun read. Oh and this is were you can pick up after the anime.
Akira and crew attempt to complete a Spartathalon. Then they stay in a hotel run completely by artificial intelligence. Akira rescues Beatrix and Shizune from a mad scientist and fights a zombear with a robot. They ponder the meaning of life.
The story progression is essentially: MC felt like doing thing => randomly coming across important stuff. Also, there was no character development this entire volume.
Wow this volume actually got so deep, lots of good commentary on the rise and use of AI. Not what I expected, but hey this is helping me get out of my reading slump.
